The Little Hitchhiker is a fanfiction by author Blue Patroopa, also the author of Calvin at Camp. It is an Affectionate Parody of The Little Mermaid taking place at Walt Disney World and starring The Haunted Mansion's Hitchhiking Ghosts.

Ezra is the story's Ariel, becoming bored of his life as a ghost and wanting to be human. He falls for a cast member whose name just so happens to be Ariel, and when the Disney villains find out, they decide to help...

It can be read here.

This fanfiction contains examples of:

  • Affectionate Parody: Of The Little Mermaid.
  • Big Bad: Ursula, just like in the movie that the story is a parody of.
  • Did You Get a New Haircut?: Mr. Bluebird, who serves as the story's equivalent of Scuttle, does this after Ezra becomes human.
Mr. Bluebird: (to Ezra) You look different! Did you change your hat? Brush your teeth?
    Gus: He's human, you idiot!
    Phineas: Yeah! Ursula changed him.
Mr. Bluebird: You think she could have changed him into an ATTRACTIVE human?
  • Disproportionate Retribution: At one point, Ariel karate-chops a guy for leering at her.
  • Heh Heh, You Said "X": After Gus suggests that they erect a huge statue of Ezra, Phineas comments that the word "erect" makes him giggle.
  • Lampshade Hanging: After lightning strikes the ride controls of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the ride goes into motion, Gus asks if that can really happen.
  • Medium Awareness:
    • Four chapters in, the name of Ezra's Love Interest is revealed to be Ariel. Gus yells, "Wait, her name is ARIEL? We've been waiting half the story to hear her name, and they just named her ARIEL?"
Phineas: It could have been worse. They could have named her Ted.
      Gus: That's a guy's name.
Phineas: See? And that's how it could have been worse!
    • In Chapter 8, after Ariel is seen with another guy (actually Pain and Panic in disguise), Gus comments that there's something fishy going on. Phineas replies, "Of course it's fishy. It's a Little Mermaid parody, after all."
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently, a few weeks before the story Gus had "a life-changing Lion King story" and there was a whole lot of Elton John.
  • Overly Long Gag: After a fight between Gus, Phineas and Randall that results in the merchandise cart outside the Haunted Mansion getting wrecked...
    Gus: We did it!
Phineas: But we wrecked our cart.
    Gus: But we beat Randall.
Phineas: But we wrecked our cart.
    Gus: But we beat Randall.
Phineas: But we wrecked our cart.
    Gus: But we beat Randall.
Phineas: But we wrecked our cart.
    Gus: But we beat Randall.
Phineas: But we wrecked our cart.
    Gus: But we beat Randall...
  • Right Behind Me: How Phineas and Gus let it slip to Gracey that Ezra has a whole room full of candid cast member shots.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Take That!: Quite a few, actually...
    • When Gracey is chewing out Ezra for ruining the preview for the revamped Haunted Mansion, Ezra claims that he was boycotting it, bringing up the Journey into Imagination disaster and the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter being replaced by Stitch's Great Escape!. Gracey then brings up that "nothing could top the time the Country Bears went pop."
    • Ezra goes into a rant about how much he hates DisneyMania.
    • Near the beginning of Chapter 5, Ezra comments that he hates Mike's Supershort Show. Hades agrees.
    • Gus, Phineas and Ariel, in order to figure out how to save Ezra and defeat Ursula, put a copy of The Little Mermaid in the VHS player at Ariel's apartment. When they turn on the TV, American Dragon: Jake Long is on, and we get this...
Jake: I'm goin' ghost! Uh, I mean, dragon up! Wow, I hope no one heard that.
    • Immediately after that, Phineas and Gus comment that in a lot of other parodies of The Little Mermaid on Fanfiction.net, the main character isn't a mermaid and the story doesn't take place underwater, yet the authors don't change the nautical lyrics of "Fathoms Below" or the fish references in "Under the Sea", and that they make almost no changes to the original script. Ariel then points out that despite all of this, they get a ton of praising reviews.
  • Unusual Euphemism: This story gives us "Holy hatbox!"
