- Dangerous Fifteenth Birthday: Light was stabbed by Shiro and lost his voice as a result on his birthday no less.
- Distressed Dude: Light most of the time. He had been abducted by multiple people including the good guys and now he is set to die.
- Face Framed in Shadow: Kira.
- Fighting from the Inside: Light struggle against the death note trying to make him get L's name and go to Kira
- Foil: Katsu and Jori served this for Light.
- Genius Sweet Tooth: It's a Death Note fic. Of course this will be here.
- Healing Factor: After Kira messes with Light's memories, he sets things up so that he heals a lot faster than normal. This is viewed as a Harmful Healing, as it shows that Kira has used his powers on Light and the only other people who have been subjected to his abilities are dead, meaning that Light may very well die soon.
- Heroic Willpower: For someone who was supposed to die that day, Light has enough will to fight even in his Brainwashed and Crazy state.
- I'll Kill You!: Kira is now obsessed with killing L.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: Light, in regards to his meeting Kira.
- Life Energy: Apparently what the Death Note uses to kill people. Rather ironic.
- Living Battery: Light unknowingly acts as this to the Death Note.
- Mercy Kill: How Kira views his action of writing down Light's name in the Death Note.
- Morality Chain - To some extent, Light is this for Kira and L.
- Reconstruction: More or less
- Sanity Slippage: Kira give indications at the beginning of being unstable but in later chapters, he's snapped.Ryuk was pretty much used to it by now. The kid had cracked and would often whisper to himself without realising it.
- Silent Snarker: Light shows shades of this.
- Spared By Adaptation: Misa Amane wasn't involved with Kira at all; Likely Kira never killed the murderer responsible or something like that. Other characters involved with canon Kira is likely spared too since the readers will learn who is Kira when Light is still in high school.
- The Stations of the Canon - Even though it's a deviation, there's still the first murders Light (originally in canon) committed, Lind L. Taylor incident, the bus incident, the FBI agents' death
- Sufficiently Analyzed Magic: Played with. Little being known about the workings of the Death Note. There are two key points known by Shinigami play a key role in Light's ability to sense the Death Note being used while someone else is the owner. Ryuk reseached what was known because he was bored.
- Supernatural Sensitivity: Light can sense when the Death Note is used although he doesn't realise it at first. Explained by the Death Note establishing a Psychic Link to him in the beginning.
- The Speechless: Light, as a result of the incident that changed his views regarding criminals.
- There Are No Therapists: Averted. A psychologist shows up the first chapter although his profession isn't listed until the second. He also keeps in touch with Light.
- Villainous BSoD/Villainous Breakdown: Kira.
- Wham Line: Light nails L with one of these when he meets him for the second time, after Kira alters his memories. He had already meet L by a different name but failed to recognise him, leading L to realize that Light had come face to face to Kira and must know his since Kira took the trouble of making Light forget. Oh, and Light may be dying!
- Yandere: Kira seems to be this towards L and a lot of people including Light's ex (even though she had moved and they broke up) for Light.
