Fanfic / Prehistoric Park: Extinction World

Go To

Prehistoric Park: Extinction World is a crossover between Jurassic Park and Prehistoric Park, written by MortalKombat247.

As he is slowly dying of cancer, John Hammond asks Nigel Marvin to help him achieve his dream: create a park filled with Prehistoric Animals. This time, though, instead of using cloning, he has a time portal.

As of July 15, 2015, the story is complete. It has four sequels, Prehistoric Park: A Keeper's Story, Prehistoric Park: Back from the Ashes, Prehistoric Park: Dawn of the Indominus, and Prehistoric Park: The Ultimate Wildlife Sanctuary. Barring the first, all of the sequels were written by two other authors (Nathanoraptor and DaDog) with Mortal's approval.

    Tropes introduced in Extinction World
  • Adaptation Expansion:
    • The original Prehistoric Park was only six episodes long. Each chapter of this story is the length of an episode from the original. There are 44 chapters.
    • The time portal, while important in series, was never given any background in the main series. In this series, it was created by John Hammond, Albert Einstein, Robert Oppenheimer, and a fourth man known only as the Green Stripe. It was originally created to stop the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Manhattan Project, but the group fell apart shortly after its completion. Now that Hammond is dying, he decided to use it to save animals on the brink of extinction.
  • Contemporary Caveman: A tribe of Neanderthals is brought back to the present in Chapter 2. Unlike most examples of the trope, they speak fluent English.
  • Extinct Animal Park: Prehistoric Park, more so than its canon counterpart by virtue of including even more prehistoric animals than were rescued in the original series. Besides the animals that were rescued in the original series, the park is home to several animals that were featured in the original series without getting rescued, multiple prehistoric animals that were never featured in the original series (such as iconic giant herbivores from the Jurassic period, pterosaurs, prehistoric ocean animals, animals from the Paleozoic era predating the dinosaurs, etc.), and several animal species that became extinct directly through the actions of mankind (i.e. dodos, moa, thylacines, Caribbean monk seals, Caspian tigers, etc.).
  • Fusion Fic: Hammond was part of the team that created the time portal in this story.
  • Historical Domain Character: Harriet Tubman appears in Chapter 15.

Tropes introduced in A Keeper's Story
  • Lower-Deck Episode: This story focuses on the day-to-day actions needed to run the park, so it has a lot less intense scenes in it. Comedy, however, is far more prevalent.

Tropes introduced in Ultimate Wildlife Sanctuary
  • Four Lines, All Waiting: The story has three major plots, and all are given roughly equal screen-time. These stories tend to intersect quite a bit, since the protagonists are a family.
    • Nathan dealing with Gerard and his family.
    • Holly dealing with James.
    • Linda and Andrew (Nathan and Holly's parents) just trying to enjoy the park.
  • Slice of Life: This story focuses on the park's guests as opposed to the missions or the staff, so there is less action and heavier emphasis on character interaction. Consequently, the story is more emotional and down to Earth.
