The change can't be immediate, or it’ll seem forced. It has to take time, in order to be realistic. He knows that.
He’ll need to seem like a villain. But he’ll be a hero.
And for that, Hitoshi thinks he’d do just about anything.
Or,
Someone's selling UA's secrets, and Shinsou Hitoshi definitely doesn't have anything to prove.

Shinsou Hitoshi wants to be a hero, but with his quirk, all anyone sees in him is a villain. But maybe that can be put to good use.

Nedzu knows there's a traitor in his school, but not how to find them. Instead, he hopes he can get them to reveal themself. For that, he recruits Shinsou to be the linchpin of his plan: Shinsou must pretend to be what people already think he is; he must pretend to be a delinquent, a villain in the making, and he must pretend so well that the League Of Villain's spy will try to recruit him.

It works. Far too well.

Komorebi is an ongoing My Hero Academia Fan Fic by Calamitatum.

Due to the number of Wham Episodes in this story Spoilers for Part 1 (Chapters 1-14) will be UNMARKED!

Contains examples of:

  • Abusive Parents:
    • Overhaul is present and his treatment of Eri is by no means glossed over.
    • Hagakure's father was a pro-hero, but the stress of it drove him to drink, gamble, and eventually to physically abuse his daughter; her mother meanwhile refused to believe her daughter and accused her of lying.
  • Adults Are Useless: Averted; despite the plan ultimately hinging on Shinsou, Aizawa, Haru, Nedzu, and later All Might are all extremely competent and take as many steps as possible to keep Shinsou as safe as possible. Likewise, Kurogiri, one of the oldest members of the League, is probably the most competent and level-headed.
  • Beneath Suspicion: The UA traitor: Toru Hagakure; a student who, despite her quirk, is so utterly normal that no one suspects her.
  • Disappeared Dad: Shinsou's father left when he was too young to really remember him; over the course of the story, he starts to see Aizawa as a Parental Substitute.
  • Fake Defector: The premise of the story hinges on this trope; Shinsou pretends to be turning to The Dark Side so as to draw out the UA traitor.
  • The Mentor:
    • Aizawa to Shinsou, reluctantly at first and them more willingly as the two bond.
    • Kurogiri likewise acts as this to Shinsou after his "defection" to the League.
  • The Mole: What Shinsou becomes in part 2, feeding bits of crucial information about the League to Aizawa; in just a few chapters he manages to get them to completely abandon their Musutafu base when he makes a courier turn himself in, tip the heroes off to Eri's situation earlier than canon, and finally discover the traitor's identity.
  • Struggling Single Mother: Shinsou Haru has to contend with being a single mother to a son suffering from societal discrimination before the start of this story. During it, she has to contend with her son seemingly becoming a delinquent, then finding out he's deliberately trying to draw the attention of criminals, and finally him seemingly joining those criminals, while knowing that he could be killed at any moment and she'd never know.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: Subverted; Shinsou pretends to be this to those who knew him, like Izuku, but it's all an act.
