In with the Old, Out with the New
is a fanfic written by handidandi.
Following the events of Mortal Kombat X, Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage begin to reconcile. However, Kano kidnaps their daughter in revenge for his defeat at the hands of Sonya.
The story has a sequel, Repair Rebuild Renew.
In with the Old, Out with the New provides examples of:
- Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Kano begs for mercy. Sonya, understandably, isn't offering any.
- Ax-Crazy: Sonya loses her cool during her final showdown against Kano.
- Belligerent Sexual Tension: Sonya and Johnny both end up jumping on each other. Unfortunately, this happens while Kano is raping their daughter.
- Big Damn Heroes: Mama Blade is not very happy with Kano after what he had done to Cassie.Sonya: "You move, you die."
- Bittersweet Ending: Kano is dead, and Cassie has been avenged. However, due to the loss of lives and Sonya going against orders to bring a Black Dragon in for questioning, Sonya resigns from S-F and is given a general discharge from the Army. Despite this, Johnny welcomes Sonya back home and they decide to give their relationship a second chance.
- Broken Bird: Cassie, after Kano rapes her. She snaps out of it.
- Did Not Think This Through:
- Disproportionate Retribution: So the daughter of your most hated enemy challenges you to kombat, with her freedom on the line. What do you do when she wins? You rape said daughter.Kano: You may have won the battle, but there's no way in hell you'll win this war, blondie. Now, you're definitely gonna pay with a fate worse than death.
- "Eureka!" Moment: Jacqui and Takeda both share one. Jacqui finds out that NIOW means "Not In Outworld", while Takeda — having grown up in Thailand — recognizes the coordinates Cassie has sent as a town nearby his childhood home. Sonya realizes that Kano had kidnapped Cassie because she found out the location of the Black Dragon's hideout.
- A Fate Worse Than Death: Said verbatim by Kano right before raping Cassie.
- He Knows Too Much: As it turns out, Kano kidnapped Cassie because she had figured out the location of the Black Dragon hideout in a side job for her father.
- Heroic BSoD: Sonya has a nervous breakdown after killing Kano.
- The Mole:
- Yuri, the Shirai Ryu ninja who provides Cassie the means to communicate with her allies.
- The second Shirai Ryu mole was tasked to see that Cassie remained safe. He, unfortunately, was witness to Cassie's rape
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Nice job, Kano. Sonya and her allies were more than willing to just rescue Cassie. But you made it personal when you raped Cassie.
- One Last Mission: Sonya realizes that this may be her last mission should she kill Kano, resulting in her retirement and/or dismissal from the military.
- Sure enough, after disobeying orders to bring back a Black Dragon back for questioning, Sonya is given a choice: resign or face a court-martial, which would lead to he dismissal. Sonya chose the former, but not before securing Jacqui's promotion.
- Punctuated! For! Emphasis!:Kano: [after Sonya beats him down] M-mercy!
Sonya: You want me to show you mercy? The same mercy you showed Cassie? [draws pistol] What did I tell you before, Kano? I dont... [shoots Kano in the nuts] ... negotiate... [shoots him in the shoulder] WITH SCUMBAGS! [shoots him through his normal eye] - Rape and Revenge: Sonya brutally murders Kano during the rescue mission after learning of his rape of Cassie.
- Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: Kano rapes Cassie after she beats him to win her freedom. Her parents are pissed once they find out from Hanzo.
- Rasputinian Death: Kano gets a satisfying one for his torturing and raping Cassie. Shot in the ankle by Johnny, with the rest of the damage done by Sonya which is as follows: nose broken, nearly strangled to death, shot, stomped and kicked repeatedly, his hand and leg broken, kicked in the nuts, stomped some more, followed by being shot in the groin, shoulder and head. Then Sonya empties the pistol into Kano's corpse until she runs out of ammo, and proceeds to bash his head into the floor, destroying his skull.
