Equestria Girls/Spider-Man Book 1: Amazing Cover Picture

The EQuestria Girls Marvel Universe (EQGMU) is a series of fanfics by Equestrian Defender that adapts that characters from My Little Pony: Equestria Girls into a shared universe with the Marvel Universe, heavily influenced by the Marvel Cinematic Universe but also has other bits and pieces of other Marvel pieces sprinkled in.

Phase 1: The Start Of Something Amazing

This series of fanfics provides examples of:

    open/close all folders
    Series as a whole
  • Alternate Universe Fic: Besides the obvious of this universe being a crossover between Equestria Girls and the MCU, there are various other little pieces on both sides that don't exactly match the source material.
    • Pre-reboot:
      • Equestria Girls: Flash Sentry meets Sci-Twi before the Friendship Games, and eventually introduces her to the Rainbooms and Princess Twilight. With a better understanding of the magic around CHS, Sci-Twi isn't nearly as careless with it as she is in canon.
      • Marvel: Despite many events being inspired from the MCU, some things from the original comics and other tv shows have also been an influence. For example it is mentioned that mutants, the X-Men, and Doctor Doom all exist in this universe, none of which have made an appearance in the MCU as of yet.
    • Post-reboot:
      • Equestria Girls: CHS is located in Manehattan and the series begins in June, before the events of the original film.
      • Marvel: Spider-Girl is stated to be the first big superhero, with neither the Avengers or S.H.I.E.L.D. being formed yet.
  • invoked Continuity Reboot: The series was rebooted partway through the first story, due to the author regretting some choices made and wanting to take the series in a different direction.
    Equestria Girls/Spider-Man Book 1: Amazing (Pre-reboot)
  • Abusive Parents: Just one parent in this case, but Scootloo's mom became one after her dad left them. She goes out for several days without coming home and usually forgets to unlock the door for Scootloo, leaving her locked out of her own home. She often comes back drunk from a bar and tended to get physical with Scootaloo when they were in the same room together, usually for "mouthing off" or when blaming her for why her dad left them both. When Rainbow Dash sees Scootaloo with a black eye at the F.E.A.S.T. Shelter and Scootaloo tells everyone the full story, her mother is eventually arrested for child abuse and neglect, and Scootaloo is adopted by Rainbow's parents.
  • Accidental Murder: The robber that killed Uncle Ben claims that it was an accident when Flash attacks him.
  • Adaptational Badass: Flash Sentry goes from being a regular high school student without any connections to magic, to being Spider-Man.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • Miles Morales originally showed up in the comics after Spider-Man had been around for years, and only becomes a superhero himself after the death of the original Spider-Man in the Ultimate Marvel universe. Other depictions of him usually have him appear late in Spider-Man's career, where Peter has several years of experience. Here though, Flash meets Miles before he has even spent a full year as Spider-Man, and Miles decides to become a hero without the death of the original Spider-Man to motivate him.
    • Zig-zagged with Wallflower Blush. She was officially introduced in Forgotten Friendship, but flashbacks revealed that she was actually in the background of all previous films and was unnoticed by everyone. Here though, she is introduced when Miles notices her during his first day at CHS, before the Friendship Games begin, and he becomes friends with her.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: Zigzagged with Flash Sentry. He never appeared dumb before but his actual grade and intellect were never specifically shown or mentioned in canon. Here, since he fills the role as Spider-Man, he is a genius that's practically on level with Sci-Twi and still manages to keep the skills he showed in canon, such as knowing how to play a guitar. Though he chooses to keep his intelligence hidden from most people.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Otto Octavious here is mostly based on his portrayal in the PS4 game, with him having history with Norman Osborn until they separated on bad terms and his harness he would eventually use as Doc Ock was meant to unlock the potential of the human mind without the body holding them back. But many of his more negative traits are more highlighted, unlike his game counterpart being portrayed sympathetically. He is openly arrogant about his technology to the point of even Tony Stark claiming he has ego problems, he has a history of ignoring safety protocols that hold him back, and he has no issue helping someone like Cinch.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: The A.I. Karen in canon is often very literal and tends to state the obvious with little to no shifts in tone. Here she is much more of a Deadpan Snarker, similar to how J.A.R.V.I.S. was, cracks jokes as often as the rest of Team Spider, and at one point even shouting at Miles to attack the obvious weak point of an Octo-Bot he was fighting. This is explained as Tony giving all his A.I. basic personalities, otherwise they would be boring.
  • Adaptational Species Change: In canon, the human world version of Spike was a dog and Sci-Twi's pet. Here, Spike is a human too and is Sci-Twi's adopted little brother. Though it is eventually revealed that he is a mutant.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • Abacus Cinch was by no means a nice person in canon, with it being implied that her harsh standards and bad attitude were the primary reasons nearly everyone in CPA except Twilight were jerks. Though even then her worst actions just amounted to blackmailing Sci-Twi to compete in the Friendship Games and irresponsibly pressuring her to unleash the magic she had collected. Here she is an outright super-villain known as "Bishop" who is responsible for creating several villains Spider-Man fights and acts as the Big Bad of the first story.
    • Scootaloo's mom is a zigzagged case as in this version she's abusive to Scootaloo while her canon version is established to be a good mom if distant. However, Word of God has stated he had planned out and written the stuff involving Scootaloo's parents in his story before the episode involving her was aired so it wasn't an intentional change. invoked
  • Affectionate Nickname: Once they become an Official Couple, Sci-Twi calls Flash "Tiger".
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: The man who killed Uncle Ben begs for his life when Flash has him in his grasp, saying he will willingly turn himself in and confess all his crimes, even breaking down in Tears of Fear.
  • Almost Kiss: After Flash and Sci-Twi share their First Kiss at the end of their first date and lean in for a second, Shining Armor interrupts them, telling them to break it up. Downplayed, since Twi gives Flash a quick goodbye kiss anyway before going inside the house.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents:
    • Rainbow's parents are still this to her like they are in canon. Rainbow tells Scootaloo how when she was in Middle School they came to one of her soccer matches and shot off rainbow colored fireworks when she scored a goal, and got banned from school grounds for the rest of the season as a result. Though, Rainbow appreciates them a lot more here than she did in canon at first.
    • Played With regarding Aunt May towards Flash, since she is not his actual parent but acts as a Parental Substitute. Two days after he and Sci-Twi become a couple, she starts trying to talk to him about their plans for marriage and how cute their future kids will look.
  • Amicable Exes: Flash is still good friends with his ex-girlfriend Sunset Shimmer, with Sunset especially helping Flash deal with the grief of his Uncle Ben's death. Downplayed, as Flash's journal reveals they weren't actually "together", more like "hang-out-with-me-and-act-like-we're-together thing" and he is completely afraid of what she might do to him and Thorax when they tell her they told Sci-Twi about the magic around CHS.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Flash made some modifications to his Spider-Man suit based on this. He replaced his Emergency Parachute with a Wingsuit Function, since even though the parachute saved him during his fight with Vulture it also slowed him down and made him an easier target during the fight, plus it is only good for one use before needing to be replaced, whereas the Wingsuit is reusable and faster. This is also why he chose not to add an EMP modification to his suit, since he would have needed to replace it with a new one after each use.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Flash explains to Miles that when web-swinging he needs to constantly run several pendulum math equations through his head, because he basically is a pendulum when swinging and needs to make sure he doesn't make a line that is too long or too short.
  • Badass Bookworm: Flash is not only a Teen Genius, but also has superhuman physical abilities thanks to being Spider-Man.
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: Scorpion's has a mechanical tail, as per usual with the character. It causes Spider-Man a good deal of trouble during their fight.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Flash Sentry is one of the nicest people you could ever meet. He cares about all his friends and family, and spends his free time as Spider-Man due to feeling a sense of responsibility to help others. But, if you make him mad by hurting, or threatening to hurt his loved ones, then bless your soul. He very nearly kills the robber who murdered his Uncle Ben, and when Scorpion threatens to find out who he really is so he can kill his friends and family he goes ballistic and beats him down so hard he is sent to the infirmary for months.
Flash: Word of advice: NEVER. Threaten the people I care about.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Shining Armor is the only one that isn't completely supportive of Flash dating his little sister, putting in no uncertain term what he will do to Flash if he ever breaks her heart.
  • Bird-Poop Gag: This is the basis of Flash's prank on Rainbow Dash.
  • Breather Episode:
    • The Interlude chapters are slower paced slice of life chapters that take a break from the action.
    • The Omake chapter is just Flash getting revenge on the Rainbooms (except Fluttershy) for the prank they pulled on him in the previous chapter.
  • Brick Joke: During his fight with Scorpion, Spider-Man screams that wall-crawling is his shtick when Scorpion latches to the sides of buildings, and threatens to sue if Scorpion starts spinning webs. Later while fighting Lizard, when Lizard scales a building, Spider-Man quips that he needs to remember to trademark his wall-crawling.
  • Bridal Carry: Shining Armor picks up Cadance this way and spins around with her happily after she reveals she is pregnant.
  • Bring It: Rainbow Dash shouts this as a Skyward Scream when she realizes she has walked right into Flash's prank on her, being swarmed by a large group of crapping pigeons.
  • Butt-Monkey:
    • When Flash learns that the human world Spike is a human and not a dog like the Equestria Spike becomes, he mentally notes that maybe there is some cosmic being that really likes to mess with the alternate Spike.
    • Thorax is one for Team Spider. He often receives physical punishment (usually from Sci-Twi) for his smart-mouthed comments, ranging from regular dope slaps or punches in the gut, to getting hit by a wrench or getting tasered when Miles hacks the Spidey-Drone.
  • Composite Character: Sci-Twi has elements of both Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane, Spider-Man's two most prominent and well known love-interests. Similar to Gwen, they both have a family member on the police force and she and Flash are both Teen Geniuses similar to Gwen and Peter. Similar to MJ, she and Flash are shipped by nearly everyone (with the exception of Shining Armor), especially Aunt May, and once they do get together she calls him "Tiger" as an Affectionate Nickname.
  • Cycle of Revenge: A downplayed version happens with a prank-war between Flash and the Rainbooms. Flash blows an airhorn at Sunset over the phone for putting him on the spot asking out Sci-Twi (regardless of it working out for them) and then eavesdropping on their private conversation. She gets back at him by pranking him the next day with the help of the other Rainbooms (except Fluttershy) and he promises to get them back. The next chapter is an Omake of Flash pranking his offenders one by one with some help from his friends, slowly driving them each paranoid until he gets them. Though this is all in good fun and Sunset admits defeat to Flash this time, she promises she and the others will get him and all his accomplices back, with Flash just saying he will be waiting.
  • Death by Origin Story: Being a Spider-Man story, Flash's uncle is killed by a robber due to Flash's own inaction.
  • Demoted to Extra: The Rainbooms are the main characters of the Equestria Girls series in canon, but here they are just supporting characters appearing now and then with the main focus being on Flash Sentry and the rest of Team Spider. Subverted with Sci-Twi, she learns Flash's secret identity early on and is one of the members of Team Spider, thus remaining one of the main characters.
  • Did I Just Say That Outloud: Applejack does this when saying what she would do if Fluttershy were to get pranked, saying she would stomp Flash's "manhood" so hard he wouldn't be able to have kids.
  • Disappeared Dad: Scootaloo's dad left her and her mother for unknown reasons. Scootaloo's mother slowly turned abusive after he left, turning to alcohol and blaming Scootaloo for him leaving.
  • Dope Slap: A Running Gag is Sci-Twi slapping Thorax upside the head, or sometimes straight up punching him, for teasing her over her crush on, and eventual relationship, with Flash.
  • The Dragon: Dr. Octavius for Bishop. He is always there helping Bishop create new villains to fight Spider-Man and knows her real identity is Abacus Cinch.
  • Driven to Suicide: Sunset Shimmer says she was so low after what happened at the Fall Formal that she cut herself off from everyone else and eventually tried to kill herself by cutting her wrists. Luckily, Pinkie and Fluttershy somehow figured out what she was planning, busted down her door and managed to stop her before she went too far. Though Sunset began to open up to her friends after this, she still has scars on her right wrist from the attempt.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: When Applejack suffers her prank from Flash, being buried by a pile of apples from her locker, she says "Oh sweet, wonderful apples; why have you betrayed me?" while under the pile.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: When Rhino sees Pinkie Pie's party to thank Spider-Man in Central Park, he briefly considers throwing a few cars into the park to vent his frustrations at the webslinger, until he sees that there are some innocent kids in the park and he knows that even he isn't that evil. However, he is fine with trashing Pinkie's party to lure Spider-Man out.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Otto Octavius and Bishop are so pleased by the results of creating Rhino that they don't notice they accidentally left their microphones on, leading to Rhino learning that Bishop's real name is Abacus Cinch and accidentally blabbing it to Spider-Man after he is exhausted from dehydration.
  • Fantastic Racism: Mutants suffer this just like they do in the comics. Spike is actually relieved when Sandbar and Gallus accept him for being a Mutant instead of calling him a freak, and understands when Sandbar avoids telling his mother about it since she would forbid him from ever seeing Spike again.
  • First Kiss: At the end of Flash and Sci-Twi's first date the two share a passionate kiss together, with Sci-Twi admitting that it was her first one.
  • Friendless Background: Flash was Sci-Twi's first friend and Thorax was her second. She actually says she didn't want to date Flash at first out of fear of ruining her friendship with him, and by extension Thorax, and return to being a lonely social outcast.
  • Frying Pan of Doom: Played for Laughs; after Sci-Twi finds out that all the Rainbooms were eavesdropping on her and Flash as they set up their first date together, she angrily grabs a cast iron skillet, saying she is going to teach their friends a lesson, and spends an hour chasing them around the F.E.A.S.T. shelter.
  • Happily Adopted:
    • Spike was adopted by Sci-Twi's family as her little brother and they are shown to take good care of him.
    • After Scootaloo's mother is arrested for neglecting and abusing her, Rainbow's parents waste no time adopting her themselves.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Similar to the Spider-Man PS4 game this is subverted for the most part. Though Spider-Man still has J. Jonah Jameson slandering him, there are just as many people who know Spider-Man is a hero and appreciates his efforts. Many of the civilians and police officers are shown thanking Spider-Man for all his help and after he saves Rainbow, Pinkie, and Fluttershy during a bank robbery they make a blog to celebrate him, where everyone posts comments about how great a hero he is.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Shining Armor, acting as an overprotective big brother, threatens Flash that if he ever does anything to make his little sister unhappy he'll make sure that his body is never found. Since Flash is Spider-Man though, and obviously stronger than Shining Armor, he isn't scared by this threat and just assures him he understands.
  • Implied Death Threat: Flash spares the guy who murdered his Uncle Ben, but demands that he will confess all of his crimes and spend the rest of his life in prison. He warns him that if he ever sets foot in the outside world again he'll know it, he'll find him, and he'll break him.
  • It's Personal: Flash's narration in the first Flashback chapter shows he still holds a grudge against the sirens for brainwashing him and making him act like a jerk to Princess Twilight and all of his friends, saying if the three of them ever end up on Spider-Man's radar he'll put so much webbing in their hair they'll need to shave their heads to get it out.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Princess Twilight has no idea who the Avengers are when they are mentioned. She explains that both times she was previously in the Human World she was only there for a limited time and was focused on very important things and the Avengers didn't show up to help with either of them. Once the Rainbooms and Sci-Twi learn this, Sci-Twi pulls up everything she has collected on each of the Avengers and gives her a lesson on the group.
  • Loophole Abuse: Rainbow Dash says that once when she was in middle school, her parents got banned from the school grounds for the rest of the season after they set off rainbow colored fireworks when she scored a goal. They still came to all her games and just stayed on the outside of the fences with pairs of binoculars, so they weren't technically on "school grounds".
  • The Matchmaker: Sunset Shimmer has acted as a matchmaker for a few couples in CHS, including helping Lyra get with Bon-Bon, and Octavia with Vinyl Scratch. She also eventually gives Flash and Sci-Twi the push they need to go on their first date together, which leads to them becoming an Official Couple.
  • The Mind Is a Plaything of the Body: Flash reasons that Princess Twilight had a crush on him because she was a pony experiencing human hormones for the first time.
  • Moment Killer: When Flash brings Sci-Twi home at the end of their first date, Shining Armor purposely stops them before they can share a second kiss, much to the annoyance of his sister. Though Twi manages to give Flash a quick goodbye kiss before going inside anyway.
  • Motivational Kiss: When Team Spider gets a crime alert at their base not long after stopping Lizard, Flash quickly suits up and jokingly asks Sci-Twi for a kiss for good luck. She rolls her eyes at him but happily obliges regardless.
  • Mythology Gag: There are a lot of references to various things from Marvel, especially things relating to Spider-Man and the MCU.
    • The morning Flash discovers his powers he does a traditional "superhero landing", even quoting what Deadpool said about it is impractical but noting his super strength softens his landings somewhat.
    • Flash's original Beta Outfit that he wears in his wrestling match is the one Peter made in the MCU before getting an upgrade from Tony.
    • Flash being cheated out of his winnings from a wrestling match, being told by the fight promoter "I missed the part where that was my problem" when he says why he needs the money, and throwing this back in his face when he refuses to stop the guy that robs him all bears resemblance to the original Sami Rami Spider-Man film.
    • Flash stopping some criminals who are using a gravity-gun as a weapon from robbing a bank is similar to what happened in Spider-Man: Homecoming, albeit things went much better for Flash.
    • During a fight with Vulture, Flash manages to stop a runaway train, resembling the iconic scene from Spider-Man 2.
    • During Spider-Man's fight with Scorpion, Gargan removes his suit after the mechanical tail is ripped off and declares he doesn't need the suit to kick Spider-Man's ass, before tauntingly asking if Spider-Man is anything without his gadgets. Spider-Man responds by removing his web shooters and saying "Let's find out." This resembles Captain America's fight with Batroc in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
    • While on patrol as Spider-Man, Flash helps a girl get a black kitten down from a tree, and the girl reveals that the kitten is named Felicia. This references the Black Cat, Felicia Hardey, from the original Marvel comics.
    • Once Flash and Sci-Twi start dating, Sci-Twi calls Flash "Tiger" as an Affectionate Nickname, just like how MJ does with Peter.
    • Miles Morales uses "Kid Arachnid" as his superhero name when he joins Team Spider. This is the name he used for himself in Ultimate Spider-Man (2012) due to being on a team with the original Spider-Man so they don't use the same name.
  • No Kill like Overkill: Flash's prank on Sunset is tricking Pinkie into drinking an energy drink, Fruit Punch flavored Nitro-Cola, and sticking her in the same room as Sunset. Sunset ends up having to deal with Pinkie for her entire lunch break and stop her from escaping into the school. Even Flash admits afterwards maybe it was a bit much.
  • Nobody Touches the Hair: Messing with Flash's hair is his Berserk Button. When he is pranked by the Rainbooms, which involves getting glitter in his hair, he promises to get revenge on them.
  • Noodle Incident: Shining Armor and Cadance both have a lifetime ban from the Laser Tag arcade.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Downplayed with Flash. Having been bullied his whole life for being smarter than his classmates, which began to get physical in Middle School, he changed his image before High School by learning to play guitar from his uncle, replaced his glasses with contact lenses, and began to dress cooler so nobody would suspect he was a Teen Genius. He doesn't act like a complete idiot around others, he just asked his teachers not to mention his intelligence to anyone so not to draw attention, but still manages to study and complete all his homework.
  • Paranoia Fuel: Invoked in-universe for Flash's prank war on the Rainbooms. Originally, he was planning to get them all back at once with one huge prank, but Sci-Twi suggested that instead he should target them one by one. Each one will grow more nervous that they will be the next one targeted, and not know how he will get them. Flash ends up taking her advice and having great success with it.
  • Parental Abandonment:
    • Flash's parents died in a plane crash after leaving him at his aunt and uncle's, leaving him to be raised by them. Flash claims he was so young when they died he can't remember much about them.
    • It is revealed that Twilight's parents, Twilight Velvet and Night Light, both died when Flash and Twilight visit their graves during their first date. Twilight does not explain how they died, but Flash tells her he will always be there if she ever wants to talk about it.
  • Pride Before a Fall: Tony and Happy explain that Octavius was bragging at a science conference in Switzerland how he arrogantly proclaimed that his neural-link harness would be the way of the future and 'unlocking the potential of the human mind'. Shortly after this, his harness malfunctioned, causing his mechanical arms to cause damage everywhere, scaring civilians away, and Octavius himself ended up getting covered in fire suppressing foam. This humiliation after proclaiming so much set Octavius back permanently, and earned him the humiliating nickname "Doc Ock".
  • Read the Fine Print: The flyer promoting the match with Iron Will promises $3000 to anyone who can last three minutes with him, win or lose. The fight promoter though shows the fine print on the flyer, so small you need a magnifying glass to read it, saying that if the wrestler in question or the champ are pinned in under three minutes than only $100 is rewarded to the challenger. Since Flash won the match in two minutes he is only given $100 instead of $3000. This does not make the manager any less of a sleazeball for denying Flash his winnings though.
  • Secret-Keeper: After Flash got his powers, he almost immediately shared his secret with his best friend Thorax. When Flash meets Sci-Twi in his civilian identity, he reveals his identity as Spider-Man to her when her drone detects an anomaly in his genetic structure. So the two of them and Flash make the foundation of "Team Spider".
  • Ship Tease:
    • Flash and Sci-Twi get along right away due to both being Teen Geniuses, and Flash sharing his secret identity with her. This eventually culminated with the two of them becoming an Official Couple after their first date.
    • Miles quickly notices Wallflower Blush on his first day at CHS and makes friends with her, and he ends up becoming her first friend. The two end up blushing a lot while talking with each other.
  • Shipper on Deck: Aunt May and Cadance both agree that Flash and Sci-Twi would make a cute couple shortly after the two families meet. Once the Rainbooms meet Sci-Twi they also support the two of them getting together.
  • Ship Sinking: Flash gets over his crush on Princess Twilight shortly after the Battle of the Bands, reasoning since they live on opposite side of the mirror it probably wouldn't work and that their difference in species was the biggest factor.
  • Shoot the Television: Doctor Octavius uses one of his robotic tentacles to crush a TV that shows advertisement for the Oscorp Charity Gala.
  • Shout-Out: A few references to non-Marvel properties are made.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Uncle Ben's killer here is heavily based on the version from the original Sami Rami Spider-Man film. Instead of dying from falling out the window, he is instead webbed up and left to be arrested by the police.
  • Spit Take: Happy spits out the whiskey he was drinking when Flash asks him and Tony if they have heard of Otto Octavius.
  • Take That!:
    • A few shots are made at the concept of Spike being a dog in the human world. When Flash sees that his world's Spike isn't a dog, he mentally wonders if either the mirror portal is messed up on Equestria's side or if some higher being just likes to mess around with Spike the Dragon. Once Sci-Twi learns that Dragon Spike turns into a puppy when he crosses the portal, even she thinks it sounds insulting.
    • A much more blatant one is made at Taco Bell, when it is said that even some slightly soggy nacho chips you can buy at the Manehattan Mall is better than anything you can get from there.
    • The Rainbooms all show disgust at the infamous sewer orgy from It. Rainbow even asks what the hell Stephen King was smoking when he thought of that scene.
  • Teen Genius: Sci-Twi is this as usual, but is now also joined by Flash and Thorax as well.
  • Teeth Flying: Spider-Man knocks out several of Scorpion's teeth when he beats him down during their fight in the warehouse.
  • Tempting Fate: Rainbow Dash is confident there is no way Flash will ever be able to prank her, saying so out loud. Her friends all tell her that now she is basically screwed for saying so.
  • This Means War!: Flash says this during his wrestling match with Iron Will, also doubling as a Pre Asskicking Oneliner.
  • Toilet Humor: Lyra comments on the Spidey-Blog that Jameson's editorials are only good for toilet paper nowadays. The other commenters are not amused by this disgusting joke.
  • Trainstopping: Vulture tries to get revenge on Osborn by causing a runaway train to crash into Oscorp HQ, which added with the bomb it is carrying will cause a chain reaction that causes the whole building to collapse. Spider-Man disconnects the front car from the others and then manages to stop the front car itself by using his webs Spider-Man 2 style.
  • Villain Ball: During the fist fight between Spider-Man and Scorpion, Gargan briefly manages to get the upper hand and slowly begins to choke Spider-Man out. But as he is choking him out, he taunts him that after he kills him, he will find out who he really is so he can hunt down all his friends and family and kill them too. This gives gives Spider-Man a Heroic Second Wind, and breaks out of Gargan's hold with a Groin Attack before beating him senselessly.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Once Flash has the man who murdered his uncle in his hands he has every opportunity to get his revenge and murder him in cold blood. He does briefly consider this, but decides to take the words of advice from his uncle to heart and spares him, but warns him what will happen if he ever sets foot outside prison.
Flash: I could kill you. I should kill you. Take away everything you took from Benjamin Sentry! But he'd never approve. With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: The Flashback chapters explain Flash's origin on how and why he became Spider-Man. Flash himself provides the narration since the story is told via his journal.
  • Why Won't You Die?: Shocker yells this at Spider-Man during their fight. Spider-Man just quips that that's what everyone who has tried and failed to kill him says.
  • Worth It: After Flash blows an airhorn at Sunset over the phone as payback for setting him up awkwardly with Sci-Twi and then eavesdropping on their conversation, and then hangs up on her before she can begin her angry rant at him, he can tell he will probably pay for it at school the next day, but feels it was worth it anyway.
  • Wrench Whack: Sci-Twi throws a wrench at Thorax, hitting him on the head, when he cracks a mocking joke about Cadance.
Twilight Sparkle: The Amazing Spider-Girl (Post-reboot)
  • Adaptational Badass: Sci-Twi goes from being a normal unathletic girl (at least when she isn't using her magic) to becoming Spider-Girl
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: The story takes place before the original Equestrian Girls film, which took place between seasons 3 and 4. Flurry Heart, Shining Armor and Cadance's baby daughter, appears as a one year old toddler here, despite her equestrian counterpart only being born in the season 6 premiere. This also applies to Sci-Twi and the rest of her family as well, since they didn't officially appear until after the original Equestrian Girls film.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: While their canon counterparts never even interacted, here the human Discord is working for the human Storm King.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Instead of gaining magic levitation powers via a geode, Sci-Twi gets her powers from science by being bitten by a radioactive spider and eventually becoming Spider-Girl.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Spider-Girl does this to Dinky when the child thanks her for saving her and her mother.
  • Age Lift: Derpy in canon is a teenager attending CHS, but here she is an adult and has a daughter.
  • Agony of the Feet: Sci-Twi accidentally steps on one of Spike's LEGO pieces, after Flurry Heart broke one of the monster models he was working on.
  • And This Is for...: When Spider-Girl successfully lures Stinger into an ambush, she silently says that this is for her brother, Shining Armor.
  • Artificial Limbs: Doctor Samantha Scales has a robotic left arm.
  • Attempted Rape: Three thugs attack Derpy and Dinky, with the leader pinning Derpy down to rape her while the other two thugs restrain Dinky. The leader claims they'll let the two of them go once he is done having "fun" with her, but if she doesn't stop struggling then one of the thugs will have some "fun" of his own with Dinky. Luckily, before any of them can do anything, Spider-Girl swings to the rescue, knocking out the would-be-rapists and saving the mother and daughter from harm.
  • Badass Bookworm: Sci-Twi, a teen genius who gains super powers, eventually becoming a hero.
  • Batman Gambit: Twilight sets one up to catch Stinger. She has Loose Brick call Stinger and tell him that the cops found where he keeps his stash of poison bullets, knowing that he'd go straight to the warehouse to move to another hideout. What he doesn't know is that Twilight tapped his phone so that he'd lead her right to him and allow her to catch him in the act.
  • Beta Outfit: Sci-Twi's first Spider-Girl costume consists of a pair of dark blue sweatpants, a purple hooded sweatshirt, and a customized ski mask.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Shortly after taking down Stinger and leaving him for the police, Spider-Girl notices Derpy and Dinky being attacked and restrained by three rapists. As soon as she hears what the leader says to Derpy, she immediately swings into action, knocking out all three thugs and rescuing the mother and daughter from harm.
  • The Cameo: Stan Lee makes a cameo in chapter 2, letting Dinky read a first-edition comic book.
  • Create Your Own Hero: Twilight becomes Spider-Girl in the wake of her brother's murder. She decides to avenge him by becoming a hero and taking down the assassin and the Storm King, the one who ordered the murder. When she confronts Stinger, she even tells him that she is "a monster he and the Storm King created".
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Spider-Girl dishes one out to Stinger, leaving him with several broken bones in various places, including cracked ribs, a broken right arm, two broken legs, and a broken jaw. Shortly after this, she delivers another less brutal but just as satisfying one to three rapists who attack Derpy and Dinky.
  • Curse Cut Short: Spider-Girl interrupts Stinger when he tries cursing at her twice, by attacking him while he tries to curse.
    Spider-Girl: WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE!
  • Death by Origin Story: Shining Armor is killed by Stinger shortly after his final conversation with Sci-Twi while they were visiting their parents' graves. This is a rare instance where a Spider-Man themed hero isn't responsible for the death of their loved one in a direct or indirect way.
  • Faux Affably Evil: The leader of the thugs that tries to rape Derpy tries to talk sweet to her, only further highlighting his disgusting actions. He calls her "luv" and promises they will let her and her daughter go once he is done having "fun" with her, saying this to her even as he has her pinned down and has a lecherous grin on his face, and his two other thugs have Dinky restrained, only to immediately follow this up by warning her to cooperate and stop struggling or else Dinky will get raped too.
  • In-Universe Catharsis: Stormy Sentry and several other cops feel this when they see Stinger beaten to a bloody pulp and webbed up for them, with enough evidence nearby to put him away for life.
  • I'm Your Worst Nightmare: Spider-Girl says this word for word when she interrogates Loose Brick. Amplified by her using a voice modulator to disguise her voice.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Discord's full name, "Discord Q. Draconequus", is an obvious joke at how his voice actor, John de Lancie, also played the character "Q".
    • Sci-Twi's first time web-swinging as Spider-Girl has her climb to the top of the Kingdom State Building before jumping off and swinging across town while citizens watch in amazement. This is based on the famous "Leap of faith" scene from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Spike and Flurry Heart watch Gravity Falls, which Flurry Heart really enjoys.
    • Storm Sentry mentions that Stinger Scorpio uses bullets laced with scorpion venom to pull off his assassinations. This is similar to Floyd Lawton/Deadshot from Arrow, who uses bullets laced with curare as his calling card.
  • Slasher Smile: The thug that tries to rape Derpy has an absolutely lecherous grin as he pins her down.
  • Starter Villain: The first criminal Spider-Girl takes down in her superhero career is Stinger, the hitman that murdered her brother.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: When Sci-Twi wakes up the morning after being bitten, she realizes she doesn't need her glasses anymore. When Cadance sees her not wearing them she assumes that she is finally wearing the contact lenses she bought for her last month. Sci-Twi just rolls with it. She later does this again when she asks Shining Armor a "hypothetical" question of if he thinks she could be a superhero if she "suddenly" got superpowers, and he asks her if she's been reading Spike's comic books.
  • Take That!: Sci-Twi mentions that some of the "Masked-Matter Girl" comics Spike has are pretty good, except for the one where she "sells her marriage to a demon to save the life of her dying aunt", which "sucks". This is obviously a jab at the infamous Spider-Man story One More Day, which saw the end of Spider-Man and Mary Jane's marriage in the comics.
  • Terms of Endangerment: The thug that tries to rape Derpy addresses her as "luv".
  • Teeth Flying: Spider-Girl knocks out several of Stinger's teeth when she attacks him.
  • Time Skip: There is a week long time-skip after Shining Armor's death.
  • Tomboy: Spike jokes that he thinks Flurry Heart will become one when she gets older, due to her good throwing arm at just a year old.
  • Who Are You?: The dirty cop Loose Brick asks this when he's attacked by Spider-Girl. She replies "I'm Your Worst Nightmare." Stinger later asks the same thing when she attacks him, and this time she replies "I'm the monster you and the Storm King created,".
  • Would Hurt a Child: When Derpy and Dinky are attacked by three rapists, two of them hold down Dinky together while their leader has Derpy pinned down. The leader also says that if Derpy keeps struggling, he'll let Bosco, one of the other thugs, have some "fun" of his own with her daughter. Luckily they never get the chance to do anything, with Spider-Girl swinging in and knocking the rapists out.
  • Why Won't You Die?: Stinger screams at Spider-Girl to "JUST DIE!" when she dodges a shot from his gun. When she continues to dodge he is reduced to shouting "DIE!" each time he shoots.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Sci-Twi asks her brother Shining Armor a "hypothetical" question of if he thinks she could be a hero if she were to "suddenly" get superpowers. Shining tells her that even though she is always quick to put herself down she is still one of the smartest people he knows, and that she has one of the greatest qualities needed to be A True Hero, a Heroic Spirit and the will to never give up no matter how many times she fails, like how she persistently works on her various projects until she gets them right no matter how many setbacks she faces or her efforts blow up in her face.
