Darkest Hero

Go To

Darkest Hero is a crossover between My Hero Academia, Hellaverse, and Hellraiser by Bfghunter2. It can be accessed on AO3 here, FanFiction.Net here and on Wattpad there.

What happens when Izuku took Bakugo's advice and took a swan dive off the roof? As they say, suicide is a sin, so how does hell cope with a pure soul, and how will the heroes cope with an innocent demon?

It's currently a Dead Fic after the author cancelled it following the official release of Hazbin Hotel, with Bfghunter2 later rebooting the story as BNHA: Demonic Redemption so they could expand upon the concepts the original fic touched upon, incorporate more elements from the Hellaverse, and align the story more closely with the show's plot. The reboot can be read here on Fanfiction.net, there on AO3, and there on Wattpad.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: For Bakugo, he's saddled with Cherri Bomb's affections despite his vocal disapproval.
  • Abusive Parents: Hisashi treated his wife and son like crap after Izuku was diagnosed as Quirkless, resulting in Inko killing him.
  • Adaptation Name Change: The Creeper goes by the name of Jeeper here.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Izuku becomes a Cenobite after death with the ability to manipulate green fire.
    • Momo becomes a Cenobite after she accidentally opened the Lament Configuration in her possession and survived the Cenobite attack that killed her parents, gaining the ability to summon weapons and greatly increased resilience.
    • Kyoka can utilize magic as part of her demigod heritage.
    • Inko, as it turns out, is actually Leviathan, the patron deity and ruler of the Cenobites.
    • Miruko is a seasoned demon hunter due to her Night Sentinel heritage from being the daughter of the Doom Slayer.
    • Mabel and Dipper Pines are mentioned to have received supernatural powers from the Axolotl so they could prepare the world for Bill Cipher's return.
    • Pop-Step is in control of Queen Bee's swarm after the Pines twins helped her invert the insect villain's bodyjacking abilities so that Pop-Step is now possessing Queen Bee and any body they're in control of, allowing her to use her old tormentor's powers as karmic revenge for everything Queen Bee put her through
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • Tokoyami shows up at the Hazbin Hotel far before his introduction as a member of Class 1-A.
    • Eri shows up way before the Shie Hasshiki arc even begins.
  • Adaptational Jerkass:
    • Hisashi here is a lousy dad who is implied to have abused Inko before she killed him.
    • Bakugo is a lot more loutish and unpleasant around other people, to the point that no one can stand to be around him.
    • Downplayed with Uraraka, who, aside from having a grudge against Bakugo for scarring her eye, is still the Nice Girl she was in canon.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Kirishima and Mina are close friends who are Like Brother and Sister rather than a couple.
    • Eraserhead and Ms. Joke are something of an accidental couple ever since Aizawa was tricked into dating Mis Joke, and Azazel encourages it.
  • Adaptational Sexuality:
    • Todoroki all but confirms that he's gay in chapter 39, much to Tsuyu's disappointment.
    • Alastor in canonically aroace, while here he dated a woman in the past and is pursuing a relationship with Inko.
    • Nemuri in cannon mainly acted like a dominatrix just as part of her Midnight persona and was actually a motherly individual who loved caring for children. Here? Overhearing a conversation about where Izuku, Charlie, and Vaggie are gonna sleep while topside inspires her to make a deal with Lucifer and Lilith, of all demons, for a demonic threesome. Don't worry, they don't ask for her soul, just some shampoo from her company.
    • Uraraka and Jirou are a couple in this fic while in canon, they were just classmates and friends.
  • Adaptation Species Change:
    • Izuku and Momo become Cenobites, the former due to his heritage as Leviathan's son and the latter from opening her Lament Configuration.
    • Inko is changed from a human into the patron deity of the Cenobites, with her mortal identity simply being the latest in a long line of incarnations of Leviathan.
    • Kirishima becomes a golem demon after Mineta murders him.
    • Mina is a succubus-blooded cambion since her mom is a succubus queen.
    • According to Alastor, he transformed Ibara into a demon after she tried preaching to a figure heavily implied to be Moonfish.
    • Eri and Toga become Cenobites thanks to Inko's magic.
    • Kyoka Jiro is revealed to be a minor goddess in chapter 30.
    • Overhaul gets turned into a vulture demon after Inko kills him.
  • Age Lift: Most of the UA crew are at the 18-20 mark for age, with UA made into a university.
  • All Animals Are Dogs: More like undead monster in this case, but the USJ Nomu (aka Mr. Squishy) behaves like an oversized dog after Eri makes it her pet.
  • Asshole Victim:
    • Mineta is put through no short amount of torture after he ends up in Hell, but considering how he murdered innocent people and was an unrepentant lech, no one really cares.
    • Radoshi Dando, who Bakugo killed when the media showed up at UA's gates, turns out to be one after his true identity as Snot Rocket is revealed by Rikiya Yotsubashi, as he was a mass murdering Serial Rapist responsible for asphyxiating his victims with his glue-like snot after he was done with raping them for his own gratification.
  • Berserk Button: For Vaggie, mentioning her Dark and Troubled Past as a sex worker is a surefire way to earn a punch to the face, as one cop finds out.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Seriously, Inko more than qualifies for this given her status as the current incarnation of Leviathan and the fact that before that, it was implied that she killed Hisashi after she couldn't stand his abuse.
  • Bring Me My Brown Pants: Blitzo admits to crapping himself after coming face-to-face with the Doom Slayer.
  • Bullying a Dragon:
    • Overhaul immediately threatens to kill Inko and Eri after he's brought into the Hazbin Hotel. Inko proceeds to show the recently-transformed yakuza why it's a bad idea to threaten the Goddess of Flesh, Hunger, and Desire in front of her loved ones by dragging him into the hotel's basement for some Cold-Blooded Torture.
    • Katie Killjoy makes the same mistake by attempting to accost Inko right after she tried to do the same with Charlie, Vaggie, and Izuku, which results in Inko calling in one of her Cenobites to keep her "contained" for a little bit. Knowing what Cenobites get up to, it's safe to say that Katie's in for a bad time.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Charlie and Vaggie are initially unhappy about Ibara claiming Izuku as hers before they gradually warm up to Ibara thanks to her kindness and willingness to share Izuku with Charlie and Vaggie.
  • Cold Ham: Tokoyami is just as grandiose and edgy as his canon counterpart without raising his voice.
  • Composite Character:
    • Nedzu is the reincarnation of Bill Cypher in addition to being a son of the archangel Gabriel.
    • Inko and Leviathan are one and the same.
  • Creepy Child: Eri's a little too enthusiastic when it comes to torture, though that comes with the territory of being raised by the patron deity of the Cenobites and becoming a Cenobite herself.
  • Crossover:
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Alastor was once in a relationship with a African-American woman named Francine back when he was a human until the Ku Klux Klan killed her after Jeeper showed up. He then became a wendigo after he had to eat the dead bodies left behind after Jeeper's appearance.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Although Izuku, Momo, and the Hazbin Hotel crew are demons (Cenobites in Izuku and Momo's case), none of them have any inclination towards villainy.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • Very much Implied in the case of Hisashi Midoriya, with Inko telling Izuku that Hisashi's off "working overseas".
    • Momo's parents are tortured and killed by Cenobites after she accidentally summons them via the Lament Configuration she had in her possession.
    • Mineta is killed by Ibara right after he murders his parents, Kirishima, and a few other people who tried to stop his perverted antics.
    • Uwabumi and Edgeshot are among the dead when the Icon of Sin invades Earth with its demonic forces.
  • Demonic Possession: Stain is turned into a vessel for the Icon of Sin during the UA Sports Festival.
  • Denser and Wackier: Hell is made up of multiple realms that include Argent D'Nur, Imp City, Pentagram City, Necropolis, Tartarus, the Underworld, the Labyrinth, Fields of Glass, Inferno, and Shoel Nagarx't along with their many offshoots.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Bakugo gets stabbed in the gut by Stain and is caught in the explosion that brings the Icon of Sin to Earth.
  • Did You Just Romance Cthulhu?: How one can see Hisashi marrying Inko as after it is revealed that she's Leviathan
  • The Dreaded:
    • Naturally enough, the Doom Slayer for demons. When encountering I.M.P., they were shaking like leaves at the sight of him.
    • According to Millie, even Lucifer, the top dog in Hell, is hesitant to deal with Cenobites.
  • Driven to Suicide: Izuku falling for Bakugo's suicide-baiting taunt and diving off a building is what kicks off the story.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Mitsuki is absolutely pissed at Bakugo suicide-baiting Izuku once she's informed of what happened to him and chews out him out for such a horrible act.
    • Alastor, despite being a Serial Killer in life, draws the line at hurting kids, which is why he hates child killers like Freddy Krueger, Chucky, and Jack Frost.
    • The Cenobites unnerve everyone thanks to their horrifyingly mutilated appearances and propensity for extreme torture.
    • While IMP and Angel Dust are hardened demon criminals, child abuse is a no-go in their books, and they make sure to bring in Overhaul so he can suffer after they find out he abused Eri.
    • As it turns out, not even Hell likes Nazi swastikas, which is shown when Izuku and co. see a set of swastikas on a wall that were defaced with graffiti.
    • Eri's enthusiasm for torturing Overhaul creeps out Uraraka and her friends when they end up in Hell since she's a child, nevermind the fact that she's also a recently-converted Cenobite.
    • Nifty is sick and tired of the radio constantly playing "Inside of Every Demon is a Rainbow" in the Hazbin Hotel and goes to town on the device when Alastor triggers it with his entrance.
    • Bakugo may be a total asshole, but not even he wants to destroy Eri's innocence explaining what "fuck" and "bitch" mean after the recently-damned Overhaul calls Inko a "fucking bitch" to her face.
    • According to Yui, Neito Monoma claims that he only swaps out his undies on a weekly basis, which leaves Kirishima grossed out at Monoma's unhygenic behavior.
  • Everyone's Baby Sister: Eri is this for Izuku and company given her young age and relative innocence compared to everyone else.
  • Expy: Izuku's demonic form is stated by the author to resemble Ghost Rider, except with green flames and horns.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes:
    • For a given definition of "friend", Bakugo most certainly qualifies with his boorishness and arrogance.
    • All of Class 1-B barely tolerate Monoma thanks to his overinflated ego, unpleasant behavior, and the fact that he's deliberately teaching Pony swear words, meaning that they're more than happy to put him through "second-year training" in the form of subjecting him to pranks every week.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: Eri names the USJ Nomu the pet name of "Mr. Squishy", nevermind that the Nomu is an undead monstrosity made up of dead people.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Chapter 47. After her experimental telepathy device malfunctions, Mei accidentally transplants everyone into different bodies before she manages to repair it and get everything back to normal.
  • From Bad to Worse: Shigaraki opening the Lament Configuration he had in his possession during the USJ causes things to go to hell in a handbasket very quickly by summoning the Cenobites, forcing everyone to band together to hold off the Cenobites until Inko arrives to tell them off.
  • Happily Adopted: Himiko and Eri certainly are happier as Inko's adopted daughters than when they were with their previous families, that's for sure.
  • Hermaphrodite: Toru turns out to be one in chapter 28, much to the surprise of Class 1-A.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Izuku and his polycule chug the vodka Aizawa gifted them as respite from all the paperwork the Hazbin Hotel staff have been dealing with since the Icon of Sin's rampage and the general chaos from that incident.
  • It Amused Me: Alastor and Nedzu have this as their modus operandi; if there's anything that can make their life more interesting, they'll do it.
  • It's All About Me: Bakugo's inflated ego is somehow worse than it is compared to canon, most notably yelling at Eraserhead's mom that "he is the hype" when he meets her in Hell.
  • Karmic Butt-Monkey:
    • Bakugou goes through a constant barrage of humiliating situations both in and out of Hell and Earth, but the fact that he's a massive dick and was the one who suicide-baited Izuku only makes his constant humiliation hilarious.
    • Mineta is put through a lot of terrifying and humiliating situations in Hell, but considering how he murdered his parents and friends for trying to stop his perverted antics, he has all of it coming for him.
  • Lethal Chef:
    • Ibara's cooking is really, really bad, to the point that she accidentally summoned Legion one time before she and the others beat him back.
    • Todoroki is no better than Ibara is, if Bakugo's reaction is of any indication.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Tokoyami and Dark Shadow are practically siblings by how close their relationship is.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: God may be the boss of Heaven, but it doesn't mean he can receive updates on what's going on there 24/7. Azazel has to inform him of what CHERUB is up to when he expresses his approval towards Charlie's redemption initiative.
  • The Lost Lenore: Francine is this for Alastor given how the KKK murdered her in life and an Exorcist killed her in Hell during an annual Extermination.
  • Mugging the Monster: A human thug attempts to rob I.M.P. with just a baseball bat. Blitzo just shoots him and remarks how stupid it is to try to rob someone that is armed.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Azazel's a Persona Non Grata in Shoel Nagarx't for asking way too many questions for its residents to stand.
    • Apparently, Dark Shadow took control of Tokoyami one time and annoyed the Great Old Ones with her antics at some point. They also got lost in Pentagram City and ended up in the city's porn museum after they took a wrong turn while looking for ice cream.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: The HPSC practically embodies this trope just like they do in canon, what with their endless regs, shielding people like Bakugo from consequences despite their flagrant abuse of Quirk usage, and constant nagging towards UA.
  • Official Couple:
    • Tokoyami and Reiko have plenty of Ship Tease moments with each other and the author has confirmed them as a canonical pairing for the story.
    • Miss Joke and Eraserhead are also confirmed to be an official pairing in the story.
    • Sero and Toru are all but confirmed as a couple given how Sero’s the only one who reacted to the news that Toru’s a hermaphrodite with delight.
  • Oh, Crap!: Toga realizes that Eri is something far darker than a mere blood-obsessed girl after Eri's Lament Configuration teleports them into Leviathan's home dimension, and Inko revealing herself as Leviathan before she beings converting her into a Cenobite only adds to her terror.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Eri is given free reign to torture Overhaul after Angel Dust brings him over to the hotel. Considering all the abuse he put Eri through, it's nothing short of Laser-Guided Karma for the former yakuza boss.
  • Polyamory: Izuku is in a polycule with Charlie, Vaggie, Ibara, Mina, and Himiko.
  • Related in the Adaptation:
    • Izuku and Angelique are half-siblings by virtue of having Inko ( a.k.a. Leviathan) as their mom. In addition, Shigaraki is also Izuku's second cousin from one of Leviathan's previous incarnations.
    • Present Mic is Vaggie's fifth cousin twice removed.
    • Nedzu is a son of the archangel Gabriel, making him a grandson of none other than God Himself.
    • Mitsuki is a relative of the Aoyamas.
    • Masaru Bakugo and Hisashi Midoriya are brothers in this continuity.
    • Gozer is Leviathan's sister.
    • Mirko is the daughter of The Doom Slayer and Daisy.
  • Share the Male Pain: Just about everyone winces in sympathy after they witness Tamaki Amakiji get hit in the groin by UA's security barrier while he's trying to shake off the media. Charlie, who's a girl, notes that even she found Tamaki's situation painful to watch.
  • Shipper on Deck:
    • One of Nedzu's hobbies is shipping everyone together for amusement.
    • Inko is currently trying to ensure that Himiko Toga joins Izuku's polycule.
    • Setsuna Tokage voices her approval of Uraraka and Jirou's relationship when it's revealed that they're dating.
    • Azazel is encouraging Eraserhead and Ms. Joke to get together.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Charlie brings up how the Miser Brothers are still bickering like usual, with the Heat Miser visiting the hottest regions of Hell for Christmas vacations. Humorously enough, their respective daughters are far more reasonable compared to their fathers, deciding to visit Germany for vacation while their dads are arguing.
    • Jigsaw, Annabelle, Chucky, Kayako, the Twins, Stripe, and a critter named Crite show up as Eri's playmates in the first omake. The twins even display Ash's possessed hand!
    • Groot shows up in chapter 33 as a second-year student at UA.
    • Metal Bat shows up in chapter 34 as a UA teacher.
    • The Creeper lives in Hell as the boss of his own deli shop there.
    • Chapter 39's title? I Hate Sand.
    • Charon note that the last time he got a new silk suit was when Percy Jackson entered the Underworld in the 2050s.
    • Beetlejuice appears in chapter 39 as he's pursued by a sandworm.
    • Gura and Watson are part of Class 1-B at UA.
    • Mabel and Dipper Pines are the co-founders and owners of the Mystery Duo Law Firm.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Eri is more than a little obsessed with torture ever since Inko converted her into a Cenobite after adopting her. The fact that she's still a little girl only makes her fascination towards torture even creepier given how all of it's rooted in the same fascination a child would have towards learning about new things around them, except that it's been twisted into something far nastier from her Cenobite conversion.
  • Too Dumb to Live: CHERUB decides it's a great idea to visit Stain, of all people, so they can redeem him. Stain proceeds to murder most of the poor bastards before Deerie persuades Stain to spare her in exchange for helping him summon the Icon of Sin to purge the world of 'evildoers'.
