Danny Phantom: Unprepared

Go To

Unprepared is the ninth story in Danny Phantom: Stranded. Star is worried when she learns her father is in a new relationship.

Tropes:

  • The Ace: Johnathan's new girlfriend, Solene, is a successful corporate lawyer who is very educated, scientific, artistic and does volunteer work with animals, and even has worked with NASA at one point.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: Solene is as kind as she is beautiful.
  • Brainy Brunette: Solene has black hair and she is a very successful corporate lawyer.
  • Brutal Honesty: Sam admits to Solene that Team Phantom are more Danny's friends than Star's since she and Star are still on a truce.
  • Commonality Connection: Sam grows to like Solene after seeing that she also feeds stray kittens.
  • Continuity Nod: Billington's Island is mentioned again, which Jack and Johnathan liked in "Bonding".
  • Daddy's Girl: Star is very close to Johnathan, which this story emphasizes.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: During an argument over Solene, Johnathan reminds Star that he never interfered with her past relationships, such as when she had been dating Kwan, despite the fact that he wanted to.
  • Does She Have A Sister?: Tucker wonders if Mr. Strong's girlfriend has a younger sister or niece. Solene later tells him that she has "two younger sisters named Amanda and Jessica" but "they're both in their 20's" and already have boyfriends.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Sam tells Solene to call her "Sam" instead of "Samantha".
  • Dude Magnet: Johnathan and Tucker are both attracted to Solene.
  • Everyone Has Standards: As much as Johnathan justifiably hated Kwan, he still respected his daughter's choices and didn't interfere in any of Star's relationships.
  • Extremely Protective Child: Star loves her father, Johnathan, very much and becomes increasingly worried about his sudden change in behavior.
  • Freudian Excuse: Star's experiences with her stepfather and stepsister made her worried about her father bringing home more stepfamily.
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: When Star and her father argue over him having a new girlfriend, it eventually reaches a point where Johnathan calls her "Estelle Joy Strong".
  • Hate at First Sight: Due to her paranoia, Star instantly dislikes her dad's new girlfriend Solene despite her attempts to be nice.
  • Hello, Attorney!: Star's father is now involved with a female lawyer named Solene Elizabeth Brown, whom the narrative states is very attractive.
  • Hypocrisy Callout: Johnathan calls Star out on spying on his new girlfriend Solene by reminding her that he never interfered in any of her past relationships despite his understandable disdain for her ex-boyfriend Kwan.
  • Improperly Paranoid: Star convinces a reluctant Team Phantom to help her spy on her dad's new girlfriend Solene because she believes the latter's Nice Girl act is just a facade, but they only see her helping people and feeding stray cats.
  • Irony: A very tragic example. When Star first meets Jean-Luc and Colette as a child, while saddened by her parents' divorce, she genuinely tries to give them a chance... only for Jean-Luc and Colette to quickly show their true colors and make her miserable. Years later, when she learns her father has started dating a woman named Solene Elizabeth Brown, Star believes the worst about her and acts hostile, despite Solene being nothing but polite to her and all the evidence that she is a truly nice person who means no harm.
  • Loophole Abuse: Star might have promised her father she wouldn't spy on him "but Danny Phantom wasn't part of the deal". The chapter where she brings it up is even called "The Loophole".
  • Must Make Amends: To save her father's relationship and his trust in her, Star is forced to ask her mother for help in fixing her mess.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Star realizes she spent so much time wrongly seeing Solene as another Stella that she mistreated a good woman and broke her father's heart.
  • Nice Girl: Solene is shown to be a very charming woman who gets along well with Team Phantom, helps strangers, and is kind to stray animals.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Star becomes worried and paranoid when her father starts acting and dressing differently, even theorizing that he may be controlled by a ghost. He's not, he just has a new girlfriend.
  • Original Character: This story debuts Solene Elizabeth Brown.
  • Parent with New Paramour: Star has to deal with the fact that her father has a new girlfriend in this story.
  • Sheep in Sheep's Clothing: Star is very distrustful of Solene even though she's nothing but a kind lady. Fortunately, Star comes around by the end.
  • Shout-Out: Solene likes watching Billington's Island, a stand-in for Gilligan's Island.
  • Skewed Priorities: Tucker would rather flirt with Solene or ask her if she has any female relatives close to his age than focus on Team Phantom's mission to spy on her, much to everyone's annoyance as Sam, Jazz, and Star mentally comment on him having no priorities.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Both Danny and Stella agree Star's idea to talk to Solene after lashing out at her the night before is a bad idea.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Both Star and her father call each other out after she learns about Solene: Star calls her father out for not telling her about his new girlfriend while Johnathan calls her out for her spying on them and being rude to Solene.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: Flower princess11 said this fic is inspired by the Sabrina the Teenage Witch episode "Meeting Dad's Girlfriend".
