Danny Phantom: Trapped

Go To

Trapped is the first sequel to the Danny Phantom fanfic Stranded and its second story arc. Star is obsessed with learning about Danny and his secret.

Tropes:

  • Adults Are Useless: Like in the show, Mr. Lancer favors the A-Listers and does nothing to stop their bullying. Star turns the tables on him when she threatens to have her father sue him and the school, forcing him to punish Dash and the other A-Listers.
  • Almost Holding Hands: While Danny is still flustered from the kiss, Star briefly attempts to reach out for his hand. She pulls back before he can notice and mentally scolds herself for the attempt.
  • Almost Kiss: After Danny compliments her drawing skills and gives a few kind words, Star is touched and seems like she's about to kiss him on the lips. Then a ghost attacks them.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Star has no response when Danny asks her if the A-Listers were her friends, would they tell her that her drawing hobby isn’t cool.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: After Danny is captured by the monster of Specter Island, Star decides to repay him for his kind words and concern for her by going to save him.
  • Be Yourself: Danny tells Star that popularity doesn't matter in the long run because after you graduate, nobody will care how popular you were in high school, so you should enjoy that time by being yourself and hanging out with people you actually like.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Danny fires at Vlad for daring to call Danielle a "mistake".
  • Big Damn Kiss: Star grabs hold of Danny and kisses him on the lips after they survive both the monster and Vlad Plasmius. After a second of shock, Danny kisses her back.
  • Blackmail: A benevolent version where Star threatens Mr. Lancer into properly enforcing the school rules against the A-Listers, otherwise she'll get her lawyer dad to file another lawsuit against Casper High.
  • Boy Meets Ghoul: Gender-Inverted. Star is unknowingly falling for Danny Phantom, a half-ghost hybrid.
  • Brutal Honesty: Danny breaks it to Star that the A-Listers aren’t real friends since they boss her around and discourage her art hobby just because it doesn’t fit their shallow standards.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Star questions why Danny lets Dash bully him when the monster they encountered on the island could've easily torn him in half, yet Danny was smart and skilled enough to stand up to it.
  • Bully Hunter: At the end, Star forces the Casper High staff to start punishing the A-Listers for their bullying by threatening to have her dad sue the school.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Sam, unsurprisingly, isn't pleased that Star keeps looking at Danny. Star thinks she should just get over Danny if she's never going to make a move.
  • Closet Geek: As a Beta Bitch, Star hides her artistry from the A-Listers, who deem it too "dorky" for their clique since it doesn't involve money, sports, clothes, or celebrities. During a heart-to-heart with Danny, she also admits she likes video games, reading, and writing.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: Downplayed, but Danny breaking Star's bubble about her social life and views kickstarts her reformation.
  • Defector from Decadence: Star becomes tired of the A-Listers' snobbery and apathy after Danny helps her realize they don’t care about her at all. At the end, she quits in favor of hanging out with Valerie and Danny.
  • Distressed Dude: Star takes it upon herself to save Danny from the monster.
  • Evil Is Petty: Vlad messing with Danny and Star in the school was nothing more than just him trolling the boy.
  • Future Loser: Discussed. Danny points out to Star that Dash won’t amount to anything in the future because he doesn’t even try to have a life after senior year, while Paulina will either stay the same shallow doll she is now or be forced to get a dead-end job when her parents finally wise up about her Spoiled Brat behavior and cut her off from her inheritance.
  • Hairpin Lockpick: Danny takes one of Star's bobby pins and claims he's use it to unlock a door. However, he's actually using his powers while she looks away, using the pin as a way to trick her.
  • Held Gaze: While hiding in a locker together and hearing him compliment her drawing skills, Star spends a good deal of time staring into Danny's eyes.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Star in the last chapter decides to leave the A-Lister once and for all, while threatening to sue the school to make the teachers punish them.
  • Hidden Depths: It's revealed Star loves drawing and sketching, and even hopes to turn it into a career.
  • High-School Rejects: Discussed. Danny points out to Star that obsessing over popularity is pointless because in 10 years, nobody will care whether she was popular in high school. The A-Listers' lives will go downhill after graduation because they don’t care about preparing for the real world and are only interested in taking advantage of senior year to throw their weight around and bully others. Meanwhile, Danny will become an astronaut, Sam will probably join some environmental organization, and Tucker will go to his dream school MIT.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • When Star threatens to sue Mr. Lancer and the school for allowing Dash and the A-Listers to get away with their bullying, Mr. Lancer punishes Dash by giving him detention.
    • Vlad pays for antagonizing Star and Danny by getting trapped by Star in the Fenton Thermos.
  • Luminescent Blush: Danny and Star blush bright enough to look like tomatoes after they kiss.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero!:
    • By locking Danny in the bathroom, Star ends up trapping the both of them in the school, after hours with a ghost after them.
    • Also due to wasting the power on her phone, Star can’t call for help.
  • Papa Wolf: When Star doesn't arrive home, her father decides to call the police.
  • Parents as People: Star's dad does love her and cares for her well being, but he has a very busy schedule due to being a successful lawyer and rarely spends time with her. However, the moment he thinks her life is in danger, he leaps into action.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Danny assures Star that she is a better person than the A-Listers because she proved it back on the island by helping him.
    • Star defends Danny from the A-Listers' bullying and makes Lancer punish them for it, or else her dad will sue the school.
  • Positive Friend Influence: Becoming friends with Danny causes Star to reject the A-Listers.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Star, having had enough of Danny lying to her, locks him in the bathroom until he tells her the truth.
  • “The Reason You Suck” Speech: At the end, Star gives one to Paulina before quitting the A-Listers.
Paulina: Star, what the heck are you doing?
Star: [Frowns] What's it look like, I am having lunch...
Paulina: Star...You're an A-Lister, you're supposed to have lunch at the popular table...you're not supposed to eat lunch with losers!
Valerie: [Gets Mad] Now wait a-
    Star: SHE'S NOT A LOSER!
    Paulina: S-Star?...
Star: Valerie is not a loser...she's my friend and I am having lunch with her today and that's that...
Paulina: [Glares at her] What has come over you, Star? Are you sick or something? First you are seen helping Fenton and now you are socializing with Gray? This isn't like you...
Star: I helped Danny because I wanted to help him...and I am having lunch with Valerie because I want to as well...they are...my friends...
Paulina: [Jaw Drops] Friends?! Since when?!...
Star: Valerie has ALWAYS been my friend Paulina and as for Danny...he's a nice guy...and at least they were more worried about the fact that I had to spend all night stuck in this school while SOME PEOPLE here kept complaining how I didn't show up to a stupid party!
Paulina: S-Star... [Gets mad] Star, this weird attitude has gone on long enough...if you keep doing this...I will have no choice but to throw you out of the A-Listers...
[Then something happened that shocked the entire school. Star marched up to Paulina, looked her in the eye and only said this...]
Star: You know...had this been last week, that might have worked on me...but...let's just say that lately, I have had some soul searching done and...to be honest...I'd rather be like this than go back to being your little satellite.
Paulina: W-What did you just say?
Star: I am saying that you can't kick me out of the A-Listers..because I quit!
Paulina: What? Nobody quits the A-Listers!
Star: [Suddenly hands Paulina her A-List items, even her fro yo card] Well, I just did...
  • Rescue Romance: Saving her life a few times has made Star grow very interested in Danny.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Inverted. Star threatens to have her father sue the school and Mr. Lancer unless he stops favoring the A-Listers and punishes them for their bullying.
  • Shipper on Deck: Valerie quickly picks up on Star's growing attraction to Danny and, despite her still lingering feelings for him, thinks they'd be good together.
  • Siding with the Suffering: Star’s growing friendship with Danny and disapproval of the A-Listers' callous behavior brings out her nicer side. She stops tolerating the popular kids' bullying and helps out Danny by forcing Lancer to punish Dash, right before leaving the cool kids to join Danny and Valerie.
  • Skewed Priorities: When Star is grounded and texts Paulina that she can't go to her party, Paulina is only annoyed that she won't be there and even suggests she sneak out, not caring that Star was trapped inside the school. This angers Star and is a factor in her quitting the A-Listers.
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: Literal example. Star slaps Danny twice for two things that genuinely angered her before she becomes very affectionate and kisses him.
  • Sympathy for the Hero: Star does feel sorry for all the bullying Danny goes through courtesy of Dash, especially after realizing how lousy it feels to be stuck inside a locker when they’re forced to hide in one from the island beast after getting locked in the school. It further motivates her to stand up for him against the A-Listers' harassment.
  • Tsundere: Star becomes one to Danny overtime. When she's not mad at him, she's growing fond of his heroic side and later, after slapping him, kisses him on the lips.
  • Unishment: When Star reveals to her father that she got herself and Danny trapped in school, he punishes her by grounding her for the weekend and forbidding her from going to Paulina's party. However, not even wanting to go to the party in the first place and happy she can spend time with her father, Star does not consider this a punishment at all.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Okay, she is not his girlfriend but when Danny gets captured by the ghost that has been stalking them, Star goes to save him.
  • With Friends Like These...: Danny points out to Star that the A-Listers aren’t real friends because they treat her like a lackey by telling her what she can or can’t do, and only hang out with her for her looks, wealth, and athleticism; they also don’t care about Star since they showed no concern for her when she was stranded on the island or trapped in the school, with Paulina only upset that Star wouldn't attend her party, which made her look bad. Realizing Danny is right, Star unfriends Paulina and quits the A-Listers at the end.
  • Women Prefer Strong Men: Star is impressed by how brave Danny is for standing up to the beast from the island.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Danny assures Star that the real her who isn't trying to be an A-Lister is a much better person, which she proved back on the island by helping him.
