Danganronpa 69 (Fanfic)
Your worst interdimensional nightmare.note

Danganronpa 69 : There’s MORE goddamn hope!? is a Massive Multiplayer Crossover Danganronpa fanfic written by Lennardd on Archive Of Our Own. It follows Luigi as him and his brother wake up in a mysterious area with 14 other people of varying species and are forced to participate in a killing game by the sadistic bear Monokuma, where you must kill someone and get away with it to survive, or figure out who the culprit is and have them voted for execution, condemning the culprit to death but saving everyone else.

The cast of this fanfic includes characters from :

Super Mario Bros., Family Guy, SpongeBob SquarePants, Vocaloid, UTAU, Gorillaz, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, Under Tale, Kirby, A Hat in Time, PaRappa the Rapper, My Little Pony, WarioWare and Yandere Simulator.

A sequel, called “Danganronpa 69: Ultra Despair Gang : Really, ANOTHER episode?”, was written, but ended up being left in a indefinite hiatus after only 5 chapters. It can be read here

Danganronpa 69 : There’s MORE goddamn hope!? provides examples of :

  • Accidental Murder: Chapter 5's victim, Fluttershy, dies trying to stop a suicidal Brian from killing himself, in the process being fatally shot in the chest in the struggle of taking the gun he was going to use to commit the deed out of his hands.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Nagito acts much less antagonistic than he does in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair and Yandere-Chan strangely never kills anyone.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Miku and Teto, being made the mastermind and traitor, as well as most of the culprits.
  • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: In the Chapter 4 case, it’s revealed that Sans and Nagito convinced a drunk Peter that Nagito was a woman so they could kill him.
  • Ambiguous Situation: As he's confessing why he killed Mr. Krabs, Mario mentions that he could feel something "off" about the crustacean when he saw him interacting with Luigi, so he killed him before he could have the chance to hurt his brother. Despite this, the story never confirms or denies Mario's claims, leaving whatever Mr. Krabs was or wasn't planning on doing to Luigi forever lost in the realm of possibility.
  • Anyone Can Die: Naturally, as it’s a killing game. It’s always hard to guess who’ll be the next victim/culprit.
  • Art Evolution: The art in the fic noticeably changes at around Chapter 5.
  • Back from the Dead:
    • Not exactly as it was faked, but Miku returned in Chapter 6 after “dying” in Chapter 3 (same with Teto).
    • In the sequel, it is revealed that Penny Crygor and Stewie Griffin are working together to create a machine to Invoke this on the victims of the killing game.
  • Blessed with Suck: Luigi and Teto’s talents as the Ultimate Plumber and Ultimate Secondary Diva respectively, which were both chosen against their will and they seem to show mild disdain towards.
  • Chekhov's Gun: In Chapter 1, Teto resents her talent of Ultimate Secondary Diva, claiming it must’ve been given to her by a “hater hacker”. This is how she’s outed as the traitor in Chapter 6, as everyone else chose their own Ultimate talent, as Nagito told them to.
  • Control Freak: This is the whole reason Hatsune Miku set up the killing game; a desire for control, the control she never had when being forced to sing.
  • Cranial Eruption: One is visible on the head of Mr. Krabs after he gets murdered.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: All the executions and body discoveries are very brutal.
  • Deadly Game: Much like the original Danganronpa, the main premise is a killing game where you must kill someone and not get caught to escape.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Mario, who, in a similar way to Sayaka Maizono and Kaede Akamatsu, is painted throughout Chapter 1 as the Deuteragonist to Luigi's Protagonist, only to be revealed to be the first Blackened, with Yandere-Chan taking the deuteragonist role for the rest of the story.
  • Driven to Suicide: Brian Griffin ends up falling into a suicidal depression after Peter's death in Chapter 4. This leads him to do a Heroic Suicide to stop the killing game, which culminantes with him accidentally killing Fluttershy, who followed him in a attempt to stop him.
  • The End of the World as We Know It: Well, more like the end of the multiverse as we know it. In the Chapter 6 Class Trial, Miku and Teto reveal that they’ve caused this by merging several universes (see the list above) together. In “Danganronpa 69: Ultra Despair Gang : Really, ANOTHER episode?” (Danganronpa 69’s sequel which is unfinished and on indefinite hiatus), it’s revealed to be a Danganronpa: Ultra Despair Girls style apocalypse with giant Monokumas trying to kill everyone, and mass death/despair.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Mario accepts his death with grace right before his execution in the first chapter, using his last moments to encourage Luigi to keep going.
  • Faking the Dead: Miku and Teto, who were supposedly Chapter 3's second victim and Blackened, respectively, are revealed to be still alive in Chapter 6. Alongside with the revelation that they were the ones behind the killing game all along.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Teto in Chapter 6, decides to betray Miku and help the survivors escape instead, leaving Miku to die.
  • Heroic BSoD: Luigi is hit with this after Mario’s execution.
  • Hidden Disdain Reveal: In Chapter 6, Teto has a diary where it’s revealed that she hates Miku, nor does she like going along with her schemes.
  • Hidden Villain: The mastermind, later revealed to be Hatsune Miku.
  • Kick the Dog: Despite the fact that he only ended up involved with the killing game thanks to the motive he gave to the students, Monokuma still executes Red alongside Ashley for having helped the latter with killing King Dedede.
  • Lying to Protect Your Feelings: In the sequel, when Hajime realizes that Papyrus is unaware that his brother Sans died during the killing game, he decides to not tell him so the skeleton doesn't have to feel the heartbreak of someone who he just met telling him that his only family is dead.
  • Make a Wish: The motive of Chapter 2, with Monokuma promising to grant one wish of one of the participants if they commit another murder. The second murderer, Ashley, uses this wish to get Red into the killing game so he can help her kill King Dedede.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: This fic is a crossover between 14 fandoms in a Danganronpa setting.
  • Revenge by Proxy: In the first chapter of the sequel, once Lois realizes that she's talking to two of the loved ones of her husband's murderers, she immediately jumps to the opportunity to kill Hajime and Papyrus to get vengeance on Nagito and Sans.
  • Sadist: Kasane Teto claimed to love seeing Hatsune Miku in despair just before their death, even though this may have been part of the act she put up during Chapter 3.
  • Secret Relationship: Sans and Nagito entered one sometime prior to the events of Chapter 4.
  • Taking the Heat: Nagito during the 4th Trial tries to convince the other participants that he was Peter's murderer to save Sans, who was the true Blackened and whom Nagito was in a Secret Relationship with, from being executed.
  • Tamer and Chaster: The Argument Armaments on this story, unlike the ones in Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, doesn't show the opponent in any kind of Fanservice-ish Clothing Damage once they're beaten. Justified by the fact that two of the opponents are young children.
  • Winged Humanoid: Teto’s Chimera wings are visible in her Argument Armament CG in Chapter 3.
  • Yandere:
    • Yandere-Chan is quite literally the Ultimate Yandere, and does talk a bit about her “senpai” and what she’d be willing to do for him.
    • Teto is revealed to be this for Miku, even killing 2D to keep her attention. Turns out to be subverted in Chapter 6, where Miku and Teto, after their reveal as the Mastermind and Traitor respectively, revealed the events of the 3rd Chapter to be an act, though the latter was forced to hear loud music as part of her "execution" to make it more believable.
