DNMC (pronounced "dynamic") is a RWBY fanfic by KoffingMugg, available on DeviantArt here.

The story centers around four young adults with unique powers and weapons, similar to the original story's setup. There are four short stories centered around them individually collectively referred to as DNMC: Colors due to their idiosyncratic naming convention. The overall story so far has a noticeably darker tone than the original, the most recent entry involving a cult that one of the main characters has inexplicable ties to.

Note: Given the length of the short stories, tropes related to them will cross into spoiler territory. You Have Been Warned.

DNMC provides examples of:

  • All There in the Manual: The series has some character bios attached to it that give info that wasn't portrayed in the official stories, some of it bordering on spoilery.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Nara's six-foot-nine, muscular, and wears and outfit that bares her midriff. She's also not avert to tearing you several new ones.
  • Ambiguously Human:
    • Nara and Mak's client both qualify, with Nara's Species status being marked as "Rather not say" and Pappel doubting if Mak's client is even human.
    • Azure-2 qualifies as well. While he's described as human in the story, there's something about him that's just... off.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: Turns out, living in the middle of nowhere your whole life means no one knows you even exist, giving Clu some leverage for his ultimatum.
  • Arc Words: "Razed by Hell'' pops up at least once in the chapters of the story proper.
  • BFS: D'Arg sports two that double as shotguns and that he can light on fire using his Dust-infused blood.
  • Bounty Hunter: Mak was introduced in his story as one.
  • Butt-Monkey: D'Arg definitely got the short end of the stick as of Chapter 2. Between getting frozen alive and getting clocked on the head by a shovel, things do not turn out well in his favor.
  • The Cameo: Already, a handful of characters from the canon series made brief (but significant) appearances in three of the four stories in DNMC: Colors.
    • Junior and Adam Taurus both made an appearance in "DNMC: Naranja", with Junior serving as Nara's liaison and Adam being the one to send for Il Squalo Che Ride, who's implied to have some history with Nara based on them being listed under the "Enemies" section of Nara's bio.
    • Raven and Vern come across Mak after the rock slide he caused to take out his mark, being the ones who send him off to Atlas (with implications being they did so with less than pure intentions).
    • Winter Schnee appears at the end of "DNMC: Cyan" as the one who enrolls Cyena into Atlas Academy. She later becomes a prominent character in the story proper.
  • Colorful Theme Naming: As per series tradition, all the characters are named after something related to colors, symbolic or otherwise.
    • D'Arg is named after "dearg", the Irish word for "red".
    • Nara is named after "naranja", the Spanish word for "orange".
    • Mak is named after "makani", the Hawaiian word for "wind", which is often represented by the color green.
    • Cyena is named after "cyan", a shade of blue, but is meant to be pronounced as "Sienna".
  • Convection, Schmonvection: Averted in "DNMC: Cyan." When Mearth had Cyena surrounded by fire, Cyena hid herself in a water bubble to keep from getting burned. However, the heat from the fire was still enough to make the water boil.
  • The Dreaded: Atlas as a whole seems to be headed towards this direction, given how the mere mention of the name is enough to sway anyone out of any arrangement.
  • Dying Curse: Mearth used his last breath to tell Cyena that she would never find happiness after turning on their cult.
  • Enhanced Archaic Weapon: There's D'Arg's aforementioned swords and Cyena's bow.
  • Extra Eyes: The guy in The Club with the fly eyes definitely qualifies.
  • Grenade Launcher: Nara's weapon, Wonderful World, can switch between this and a shovel.
  • Harmless Freezing: Mak shoots D'Arg with enough Ice Dust rounds to leave him shivering in ice. Downplayed, since it's only because of the Fire Dust in his body that it didn't freeze him solid.
  • Hidden Depths: The bios of all the main characters show some facets of themselves that show there's more than meets the eye.
    • D'Arg tends to draw or write poetry when he's not fighting.
    • Nara may like action movies and metal and rock music, but she's willing to bend an ear to a good story.
    • Mak has a thing for landscape photography.
    • Cyena is more determined than she lets on if her mindset of "Stay the course of your destiny, no matter what" is an indicator.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Or "Chapter Naming," but the spirit of the trope still applies, with each title of each chapter being a line of dialogue spoken by one of the characters.
  • Mage Marksman: Features one flavor each through Mak and Cyena.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: Just like in the official canon, there are weapons here that are a combination between two or three weapons. Mak's weapon, Perfect Storm, stands out by downplaying this trope being a cross between a gun and... another gunnote .
  • Multinational Team: In-Universe, all the members of the titular team are from one of the four kingdoms that make up the world of RWBY.
  • The Napoleon: D'Arg's the shortest on the team, standing at five-foot-two, yet he's the one in charge.
  • No Name Given: Quite noticeably for anything RWBY related, the Faunus are never addressed as such in any of the DNMC: Colors stories. There are also quite a few people who were never given a name, with D'Arg's master, Nara's attackersnote , and Mak's client being the most significant so far.
    • D'Arg's master's name, Maya Aztec, is used in Chapter 1 of the story proper.
  • Little Bit Beastly: As to be expected, there are some Faunus who appear in "DNMC: Naranja."
  • Punny Name:
    • Paul E. Kracko. If you don't get the joke, try putting a "wanna" in there somewhere.
    • Chapter 5 introduces Professor Xucchero Posishun. If you were to abbreviate his given name, you would get Professor X. Posishun
  • Shovel Strike: Nara's weapon doubles as a shovel.
  • Shout-Out:
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: Of all the members on Team DNMC, Cyena's the only one who's weapon doesn't double as a modern-day firearm, rather doubling as a bow.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Sure, Paul. Blab on about what you plan to do after you bring in Nara as you leave yourself wide open to an attack. We're sure she's more than willing to let you finish.
  • Stock Shōnen Hero: D'Arg is practically the embodiment of this trope. Spikey colorful hair? Check. No Indoor Voice? Check. Reckless to a fault? Checkity check check check!
  • Talking Is a Free Action: Zig-zagged. In "DNMC: Dearg", D'Arg had plenty of time before the slaughter to talk down the Grimm that surrounded him, but in "DNMC: Naranja", Paul E. Kracko was taken out in one hit because he was talking when he should have been attacking.
