Class 1-A Watches Ben 10

Go To

Class 1-A Watches Ben 10 is a Ben 10/My Hero Academia reaction fic written by CelestialEmpressSandra.

Class 1-A and a handful of teachers are whisked away to learn about the flaws of their hero society and beliefs in heroes in general. And so, two multiversal creatures show them the flaws of their hero society by learning proper hero lessons from the most unlikely place... A ten-year-old boy with a fancy watch on his wrist.

It can also be viewed on Archive of Our Own, right here.

Tropes that feature are:

  • Adaptational Karma: Contrary to canon, in the show presented to the students, Ben's collaboration with Kevin is also discussed at the beginning of the next episode. This is because he was cleaning the Rustbucket at the beginning of "The Alliance" episode and also did chores between the two episodes.
  • Adaptational Explanation: In the episode shown here, Ben paid for the ice cream in the episode "Side Effect" by taking on jobs with his aliens off-screen. According to his explanation, this is how he survives Grandpa Max's cooking.
  • Always Someone Better: This is Todoroki and Iida for Heatblast and XLR8. The former admits that he will never be as good as Heatblast with the fireside. This is further amplified in the episode "Side Effect," when Heatblast, who has caught a cold, displays ice powers. The latter is in tears that a ten-year-old delinquent slacker has COMPLETELY outclassed him in speed.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: Maverick's response to Aizawa saying Ben doesn't have a second chance after "Kevin 11".
Maverick: Ugh, this motherfucker. (rolls his eyes) Well, if you really believe that, then why don't you expel this whole class except Bakugo, Jiro and Hagakure? Remember, you told the class all that before they moved into the dorm, how you would expel them all if you could have your way? Well, clearly you can, since you DID expel an entire class before- (looks towards the 4th wall) -And we're ignoring the stupid retcon where he re-enrolled them, that was just ridiculous and out of nowhere. So, if you really don't believe in second chances, why did you give all these kids one? And a second AND THIRD chance to Bakugo and Midoriya after they fought THE NIGHT they moved into the dorms?
  • Big "NO!": In the episode "Side Effect," the other teachers' reactions to Aizawa's idea that the students should train in a building that is about to collapse later.
  • Black-and-White Morality: This is typical of the MHA world. Students are taught that there are heroes and villains, and there is no in-between. A hero does no wrong and a villain does no good. That is why they are so confused by Ben's character and his world.
  • "Both Sides Have a Point" Remark: The MHA characters are right that Ben crossed a line in the "Kevin 11" episode. On the other hand, the hosts are also right that we're talking about a 10-year-old kid who suddenly finds himself in a world of alien powers and crime fighting and generally trying to do what's right.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: The hosts do this sometimes. For example, when Maverick told readers that Aizawa's class dismissal remained.
  • Calling Your Nausea: Jiro after seeing Four Arms' armpit gland.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance. The reaction of MHA students when faced with the fact that much of what they have learned in their world is not 100% right. Asui is at one point particularly sensitive to the fact that the foundations of her world are being broken in this way.
  • Disappointed in You: The MHA characters towards Ben after the "Kevin 11" episode.
  • Faint in Shock: Yamada's reaction when he sees Stinkfly's first appearance.
  • From Bad to Worse: As the MHA characters show disgust for Ben's behavior in "Kevin 11", the hosts look at each other with concern that their opinion of Ben will drop further once the "bad stuff" happens in the episode.
  • Holier Than Thou: You see this several times in the fic. The students and teachers think of themselves as so much better and more moral than Ben, much to the chagrin of the hosts.
  • Hypocrite: It has happened several times with MHA characters. For example, when in the "Washington BC" chapter, they called Ben out and said he shouldn't expect to be paid or rewarded for being a hero, whereas in the MHA world, Pro Heroes are paid well to help others. Aizawa and the more serious students, such as Iida and Tsuyu, call out Ben after the "Kevin 11" chapter. The hosts (especially Maverick) confront them about their hypocrisy. They are not well received.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: In the "Kevin 11" chapter, Asui assumed that Ben would follow Kevin's plan to crash two subway trains (one carrying gold, the other full of people) and kill people to obtain the gold. Only to be proven wrong when Ben is quickly horrified by Kevin's plan and tries to stop him.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • You can argue with Aizawa about Ben, but unfortunately, he has a point in the "Kevin 11" chapter.
Aizawa: Enough! Yes, our system is flawed. Maybe even corrupt. But there's still a certain way heroes are supposed to act! And Ben just spat in the face of all of that! Sure, he did the right thing in the end here, but what if there's something he wants even more? What if a civilian has something rare he can't find anywhere else and he just snatches it, thinking he deserves it for being a hero? We've already seen him get revenge on bullies, what if someone pushes him too far and he turns into Four Arms to put them in a body cast, or a grave, but he thinks it's alright since he's saved so many other people? He can't be trusted with that power anymore.
    • From their point of view, those who have never seen the show or have no idea that it's just a cartoon, it makes sense.
    • While Kaminari is a bit insensitive about it, he's right that after Toga snapped and went on the run her getting therapy for her issues became a lot more difficult.
  • Jumping Off the Slippery Slope: Discussed in "Kevin 11", as Aizawa makes a justified point regarding the possible risk of Ben going off the deep end by continuing to self-rationalize committing escalating selfish actions due to using the Omnitrix to do good actions at times.
  • Just a Kid: Quite a few of the MHA cast believe that Ben's too young for heroism, completely unaware that he's been fighting against a variety of intergalactic threats.
  • "Let's Watch Our Show" Plot: The premise of the story. Ben 10's universe is presented as another universe to Class 1A and has the characters commenting and learning about the hero, as well as the flaws of their society. They're still watching a show, just not their show.
  • Mundane Utility: During the episode "Side Effect," Momo makes barf bags for the others after they see what the cold has done to Four Arms.
  • Not What It Looks Like: No, Zombozo is not dead. Ben did not kill him.
Maverick: "NOPE! Nope, nope, nope! Shutting that down right now!" Maverick immediately interrupted him. "He DID NOT kill him. He used some weird clown trick to escape. First of all, he will come back... eventually. So he's not dead. Second, he's a zombie, so he's technically already dead, so killing him shouldn't even count. Third- and I can't stress this enough- HE'S NOT DEAD. We're not pressing any murder charges here. Because there WAS NO KILLING." The mantis man told them all.
  • Promoted to Love Interest: Several members of Class 1-A are paired together. The relationships are: Jirou Kyouka/Yaoyorozu Momo, Bakugou Katsuki/Uraraka Ochako, Asui Tsuyu/Midoriya Izuku, Ashido Mina/Kirishima Eijirou, and Hagakure Tooru/Ojiro Mashirao.
  • Retcon: In what the hosts show to the students and teachers, there are slight variations of Ben 10. For example, at the beginning of the episode "The Alliance", you see that Ben has been doing chores since New York, and instead of Max, he is cleaning the Rustbucket at the beginning of the episode. Heatblast's plan also worked in the rock collapse and melted the rocks.
  • The Narrator: Yamada introduces the transformations of Ben 10, as well as the main and supporting characters of the series, by reading from cards (given to him by the hosts).
  • Time Stands Still: While the class and their teachers are watching Ben 10, a Chronosapien has stopped time in the MHA world.
  • Wants a Prize for Basic Decency: Discussed. Aizawa brings up in the "Last Laugh" chapter when he fought the villain group in USJ, saying he was protecting the students. As a pro hero, this is his basic duty.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: It was discussed. The hosts explain that Kevin has power incontinence on the show, and that's why he's acting so crazy. Toga Himiko is also brought up during a lengthy discussion about how she has to consume blood because of her weirdness, which she was denied for years (not helping is the fact that the lack of blood also gave her an iron deficiency, which can cause behavioral issues), and forced to become a villain because of it.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The reaction of the students, other teachers, and the hosts when they learn that Aizawa is going to drop a building on his class for the next training session.
