"But if you're into stories about punk rock, CD players, almost-death, crazy stalkers, songwriting, bad jokes, references that nobody understands, long song titles, long chapter titles based on those long song titles, pizza, zombies, and a little bit of true love, then maybe this story will suit you just fine. Enough with that. I really should just start the story. Let's start at the beginning, shall we? Love, Brendon Boyd Urie"
Chronicles of an American Beauty and an American Psycho is a Fall Out Boy Slash Fic narrated by Brendon Urie from Panic! at the Disco and written by RandomTroperWhoLikes1R, also known as epichorn31. It can be found here
Tropes:
- An Arm and a Leg: Patrick loses his left hand.
- Cliffhanger: The ending of Save Rock and Roll. There was a literal bus crash, and it is unclear whether or not Patrick survived.
- Early-Bird Cameo:
- Pete is texting Ariane when Brendon messes with his phone.
- Gerard also gets one when Brendon (possibly) passes him on his way out of the comic book store. Gerard makes an official appearance in the next chapter, along with his Cool Car.
- Expecting Someone Taller: One of the first things that Brendon says when he meets Patrick is "You're shorter in real life."
- Formula-Breaking Episode: "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison, So We'll Do This Author's Note." The chapter is written in script form, and it consists of Brendon and Pete promoting the author's other works while complaining excessively about how the author made them do it.
- Girlfriend in Canada: Played with. When Patrick says that Charlotte is from Canada, Joe believes that she is fictional. She enters the room immediately afterwards.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Patrick helped everyone else exit the bus before he did, which caused him to go into a coma and lose his left hand.
- Honorary Uncle: Viola refers to Pete and Patrick's friends as her uncles and aunts.
- How We Got Here: The point of the first half of the story is to tell how Brendon ended up at a wedding.
- Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: All of the "main" chapters are named after Fall Out Boy songs, all of the "prologue/epilogue" chapters are named after Panic! at the Disco songs, and the author's note is named after a My Chemical Romance song.
- Noodle Incident: "Pete Wentz's Journal - KEEP OUT! Especially if your name is Joe Trohman because I know you tried to steal this that one time and I almost strangled you, so just don't read this!"
- Noodle Implements:
- Brendon's notes at the beginning of the chapter. Subverted since we do find out what each of those things was used for, no matter how bizarre it is.
- "Let's just say that it involved a watermelon, three penguins, an accordion, a fire-breathing dragon, and a bowling ball. You might have also been there. I don't know. It was a really weird dream."
- Our Hero Is Dead: Patrick is ambiguously dead at the end of Save Rock and Roll.
- Plot Allergy: More for Rule of Funny than the plot, but Sarah is allergic to tomatoes and pumpkins, and Pete packed only pizza and pumpkin squares for the picnic.
- Snicket Warning Label: Brendon does a rant at the beginning about why you shouldn't read this fic. He also warns you around the halfway point.
- Stalker without a Crush: It seems that Brendon just loves to spy on his friends, especially Pete and Spencer.
- Speech-Centric Work: Like many of the author's previous works, this fic is mostly dialogue.
- Titled After the Song: Chronicles of an American Beauty and an American Psycho is a reference to "American Beauty/American Psycho" by Fall Out Boy, and all of the chapters are titled after Fall Out Boy or Panic! At The Disco songs.
