Charlie's Angels is a Hellaverse fanfic series (primarily focused on the cast and settings of Hazbin Hotel, but later also incorporating characters from Helluva Boss in side roles) written by Kkat (of Fallout: Equestria fame) and published on FanFiction.Net, Archive of Our Own and SpaceBattles.com. Started on April 6, 2024 and still ongoing with a current total of three fanfics, the series is a continuation of the aftermath of Season 1 of Hazbin Hotel (plus all the episodes of Helluva Boss up to "Ghostfuckers"). A fourth and final fic is currently being written.
The series revolves around the many changes that the Hazbin Hotel, Hell and Heaven all face following the events of the repelled extermination at the end of Hazbin Hotel's Season 1, and Heaven's agreement to favor Charlie's project of the hotel after the staff's learning of Sir Pentious' ascension. Kicking off these changes is Emily's designation as Heaven's new ambassador to Hell and subsequent moving into the Hazbin Hotel as a supporting assistant. Emily's presence in Hell leads to a lot of game-changing events to the status quo in the hotel's benefit, in no part due to being in a decent position to help the hotel's members, and Vaggie and Charlie eventually start crushing on her. In the midst of it all, though, an escalating number of both familiar and unfamiliar threats enter the scene, ranging from those who simply want to attack the hotel to others capable of destroying both Hell and Heaven's stability, with the hotel as a whole finding themselves tasked in deterring all of them.

Has no relation to the Charlie's Angels TV and movie franchise.
Charlie's Angels provides examples of:
- Accidental Misnaming: A variant. Sera almost always pronounces Vaggie's name with a soft "g" like Adam had named her, even when Vaggie or other characters remind her that she nowadays prefers it being said with a hard "g", and finds the soft "g" pronunciation rather offensive.
- Adaptational Explanation:
- In Hazbin Hotel, Charlie was never seen with wings, and it's been left ambiguous over whether or not she's capable of sprouting wings like Lucifer. In the first fic, she still doesn't sprout any wings for the most part, relying on Vaggie to provide her a means of flight in the middle of "Songs"; but both Vaggie and Emily confirm to her that she does indeed have wings at the end of the chapter, which had first sprouted when Charlie had her third orgasm during their unseen Three-Way Sex from the end of "Revelations".
- The canon series has left it ambiguous as to whether the Exorcist army aside from Adam, including former members, is specifically composed of Winners, Heavenborn angels, or a combination of both. While the whole issue's still left unclear for the most part in the fic series, the Aftershocks chapter "Day Three" establishes that Vaggie is a Winner, as she explains her life on Earth leading to her death in the mortal realm.
- Amicable Exes: Charlie and Seviathan broke up years ago, but aside from some initial animosity regarding Vaggie and Emily, are on good terms in the present.
- Angelic Beauty: Discussed and lampshaded frequently in comments regarding Vaggie and Emily.
- At the end of Aftershocks' "Day Zero", Seviathan comments to Charlie that he finds the idea that she'd hook up with two angels to be hotter than he himself could ever have been to her, noting that she apparently doubled down on finding someone sexy enough after they had broken up. Charlie can only mentally react with annoyance at Seviathan's compliment.Seviathan: Sex was good, though, wasn't it? You're not going to tell me it was so bad it turned you lesbian, now are you? Because that's not how I remember it.
Charlie: No. I mean, yes, the sex was good.
Seviathan: On the other hand, you getting down with two angels? That's hot as fuck.
Charlie's thoughts: He fucking said it!
Seviathan: Literally hotter than Hell. Can't say you didn't trade up.
- At the end of Aftershocks' "Day Zero", Seviathan comments to Charlie that he finds the idea that she'd hook up with two angels to be hotter than he himself could ever have been to her, noting that she apparently doubled down on finding someone sexy enough after they had broken up. Charlie can only mentally react with annoyance at Seviathan's compliment.
- Ascended Extra:
- Emily goes from a supporting character with one speaking appearance in the first season of Hazbin Hotel to one of the main characters of Charlie's Angels, and a member of the titular polycule alongside Charlie and Vaggie.
- Izzi, who in canon only appeared in a single shot in ADDICT, becomes the series' first Arc Villain.
- The Sinner child who Vaggie spared in her flashback from "Welcome to Heaven" is named Timothy and given a speaking role in Aftershocks.
- Big "WHAT?!":
- In the first fic's "Exodus", Vaggie yells "Say WHAT?!" at Angel Dust in reaction to him asking Charlie if she's really sure that she's bisexual, just after Charlie has corrected Vaggie about her sexual orientation when Vaggie herself mistakenly assumed that Charlie is lesbian.
- In the first fic's "Proverbs", Vaggie screams "WHAT. THE. FUCK!?" in reaction to hearing Cherri Bomb read the summary of a Snuff Film that Valentino had informed Angel Dust about out loud, which involves a fictionalized version of Charlie interrupting an orgy of 12 Exorcists to slaughter them.
- Played with in the first fic's "Acts", during Vaggie's meeting with Rosie for advice on how to deal with her crush on Emily and Charlie's thoughts about it. While she doesn't say anything in response, Vaggie's reaction to Rosie asking her if she's ever considered having sex with Charlie and Emily at the same time is displayed in her thoughts as a Big "WHAT?!".
- In the first fic's "Revelations", Valentino yells "WHAT THE FUCK!!!" when he sees his leash chain on Angel Dust dissolving from Emily's stab on the collar with Vaggie's angelic spear, effectively breaking Angel's soul contract and rendering Val unable to control him permanently. Val then yells "What. The. Absolute. FUCK!?!" when he turns to Emily out of Unstoppable Rage for what she did (on top of assuming Angel wound up dying because of the throat injury she accidentally gave him, unaware that it's actually a Faking the Dead hoax on Alastor's part).
- At the beginning of Aftershocks' "Day Zero", Valentino first informs Vox and Velvette about Emily's capability to break soul contracts, and the latter two yell "Say WHAT?!" in response.
- Shouted by Lucifer in Aftershocks' "Day One", out of shock from Vaggie telling him that Sir Pentious had recently destroyed the Heaven Embassy in Hell with a death ray he made in Heaven.
- Brain Bleach:
- In the first fic's "Proverbs", when Charlie learns from Angel Dust that Valentino's producing a Snuff Film about a fictionalized version of her fighting a bunch of Exorcists who were having an orgy, she gets so disgusted by merely Cherri Bomb's read of the movie's summary that she makes a fake self-strangulation noise, and then leaves off to her and Vaggie's room to spend some alone time.
- Emily's reaction to Cannibal Town's juxtaposition of food and clothes made out of Sinner and angel flesh with a peaceful environment in the first fic's "Acts" is nothing short of traumatizingly nauseated, especially when several of the cannibal Sinners offer her such food and clothing, to the point that she even pleads Bob, a blood-soaked snow cone vendor, to not eat her despite him being perfectly friendly with her (plus the fact that she's leagues ahead of him in terms of power).
- Discussed by name in Aftershocks' "Day One", Vaggie outright tells Charlie that she'd have given her some brain bleach to get over her cringed feeling over having recently learned that Lucifer and Sera used to be an item... if only she herself hadn't used all of it for cleaning off her disgust with Niffty's shipping of Lute and Valentino.
- Catchphrase: Emily usually says "Holy wafers!" or "Wafers!" whenever she expresses shock or worry.
- Character Tics: Emily often flaps her wings when she's happy, excited or eager.
- Continuation: The fic series continues the canon story of Hazbin Hotel from where it was left back at the end of Season 1, with the parts of Helluva Boss specifically taking into account all of that series' episodes up to "Ghostfuckers". While it features some characters and adapted plot arcs from Season 2 of Hazbin, the series' story otherwise deviates from the Hellaverse canon starting with Season 2 of Hazbin and Helluva material from "Mastermind" onwards.
- Continuity Nod:
- In the first fic's "Exodus":
- The drawing papers Charlie had brought for her first meeting with Adam in the canon series' "Overture", only to be thrown off by Adam and left behind at the Heaven Embassy during the outro of "Hell is Forever", are brought up again when Emily spots them while gathering scattered papers in the Heaven Embassy, having apparently been left there for over 6 months since "Overture"'s events. Emily can only comment to Charlie that her drawings are beautiful with Tears of Joy.
- During the hotel group dinner's, as evidence for his question to Charlie if she's sure she's really bisexual and not lesbian, Angel Dust cites the fact that Vaggie covered Charlie's eyes at the sight of his porn film that he showed in the show and tell from "Masquerade".
- In the first fic's "Kings", Charlie tells Emily that she can't bring her to V Tower for the tour through Hell she's going to give her, assuming that she must have gotten banned from the building after her disastrous visit to Valentino's porn studio to try and help Angel Dust with his job situation in "Masquerade". The hotel group promptly shift away from the tour's topic to have a brief discussion on said events, until Niffty switches back by suggesting Charlie to bring Emily to Lu Lu World.
- In the first fic's "Songs", both Angel Dust and Molly say "Kinky!" at Pentious' explanation that he applied "sextuple the power" to his Heaven hologram in order to make solid physical touch with it possible, similarly to how Angel laughed at Husk telling Vaggie that the most caffeinated coffee at the bar is a "sextuple espresso" back in "Proverbs". Additionally, Vaggie reacts to Angel and Molly's own reaction with "Oh fuck, there's two of them." in her thoughts, much like how Angel had described Charlie and Emily to her in "Kings".
- In Aftershocks' "Day Seven: Part Two", when Molly asks Husk how he's been doing with Angel Dust since the hotel's beginning, Husk mentions the time Angel Dust brought the group to a BDSM club for trust exercises in "Scrambled Eggs", complete with Angel adding how Husk immediately quit when he saw Niffty dressed as a dominatrix.
- In the first fic's "Exodus":
- Embarrassing Nickname: "The Vagyna Model" for Vaggie, which originated from an erotic fashion advertising campaign out of her pushed by Velvette in the first fic's "Revelations", after a bunch of Sinners, including VoxTek reporters, recorded and photographed the moment Vaggie peaked out of the window to her, Charlie and Emily's bedroom while naked to get some fresh air at the beginning of the chapter. The mere fact that a bunch of people had gathered to take photos of her naked was already embarrassing for Vaggie, but exploiting said photos for a highly successful commercial campaign aimed at her supposed sex appeal, complete with a nickname pushing into her Unfortunate Name, makes her get frustrated every time she hears a mention or gets reminded of it, even after she gave Velvette a good punch in the face as retaliation in "Songs".
- Fallen Angel: As well as the already established Vaggie and Lucifer, two of the canon angels from Heaven end up becoming Fallen Angels cast into Hell towards the end of the first fic.
- At the beginning of the first fic, Lucifer expresses worry that Sera might end up being kicked out of Heaven for her hands-off and unlawful approach to managing the Exterminations, especially because Adam's death left her with no one to scapegoat should she be put in trial, and believes that the chances of this outcome happening is one of the reasons Sera decided to designate Emily as Heaven's ambassador to Hell. True to Lucifer's anticipation, Sera is vanished from Heaven upon getting struck by a light beam from her fellow Elders in the penultimate chapter "Revelations"; and the final chapter, "Songs", begins with Sera being sent to Hell's Sloth Ring, as she was declared to have committed the sin of sloth (in contrast to Lucifer's pride). For most of the chapter, Lucifer is left out of the main plot's picture to attend Sera's arrival offscreen. One of the major story arcs in Aftershocks involves the issue with Sera being automatically declared a new co-ruler of Hell alongside Lucifer and her problems with adjusting to her new life and position.
- Lute is left permanently stuck in Hell by Emily at the end of "Songs", as her intended punishment for her refusal to return to Heaven following her defeat in the chapter, and an ironic fate for personally mutilating and leaving Vaggie to die in Hell at Adam's orders in the past, since Emily clarifies to her that it's unconstitutional for anyone in Heaven aside from the Elders to kick angels out of Heaven. Quite coincidentally, the Elders formally declare Lute a fallen angel right afterward, and respawn Lute in Hell via the same means they used for Sera, mainly because they've learned of her attempt to unconstitutionally start a new Extermination following their formal cancellation at the beginning of the fic (to say nothing of contracting several denizens from Hell to assist her in it).
- The Hero's Idol: In the first fic's "Kings", it turns out that Emily deeply idolizes Lucifer, Squeeing as soon as she first meets him. She tells him that his original intention of giving free will to humans allowed the presence of Winners in Heaven just as much as the creation of Hell, much to Lucifer's confusion. A non-dialogue line from "Songs" states that Emily apparently had secretly adored Lucifer when she was younger. Starting from "Songs" onward, Lucifer becomes a mentor figure to Emily, approaching her high opinion of him to help and motivate her to step up on her authority and competence as a seraphim.
- Idiosyncratic Episode Naming:
- All of the chapters in the first fic, sans "Exodus", have titles consisting of a single plural noun.
- Each chapter of Aftershocks is titled in accordance to the day it takes place within the fic's timeframe, using the format of "Day (Number)".
- Ignoring by Singing: Emily says "la la la" a couple times in the series in response to discussion about the fact Lucifer and Sera are exes.
- In the first fic's "Lamentations", Emily expresses visible disgust at Sera's partially vague statement about her having dated Lucifer in the past, and when Sera playfully taunts her about it, Emily sticks her fingers in her own ears and says "la la la".Sera: It was before his fall, of course. But the idea that my sister and his daughter...
Emily: STOP! Stop telling me this!
Sera: Turnabout is fair play, little sister.
Emily: La la la la la. - In Aftershocks' "Day One", Emily sticks her fingers in her ears again and continuously speaks with "la la la" as Charlie tauntingly refers to Sera as Lucifer's ex-girlfriend while talking to Lucifer, and discussion on the topic continues when Vaggie is surprised at the mention of Sera and Lucifer having dated.Charlie: How about: you're getting to spend time with your old girlfriend? [Lucifer makes a nervous face] Seviathan told me.
Lucifer: Ah, right, because Frederick knows, so of course his son would know.
Emily: La la la la la!
Vaggie: Sera and Lucifer?
Emily: [glares at Vaggie] LA! LA!
Lucifer: I'm going to go now. I need to be back before she wakes up. [leaves the scene]
Charlie: [turns to Emily] Sorry about that, Emily. I won't say it to dad, but I'm, like, right there with you.
Emily: La la la?
Charlie: [nods with a cringed face] La la la.
Vaggie: I'd lend you my brain bleach. But I used it all last night trying to scrub Lutino from my head. Goddammit, Niffty.
- In the first fic's "Lamentations", Emily expresses visible disgust at Sera's partially vague statement about her having dated Lucifer in the past, and when Sera playfully taunts her about it, Emily sticks her fingers in her own ears and says "la la la".
- Internal Reveal:
- In the first fic's "Revelations":
- The wider Sinner populace first learns of Vaggie's angelic status when she goes through V Tower with Emily and Cherri Bomb to rescue Angel Dust at Valentino's porn studio; specifically, during the trip to the tower, she explains how she fell to Emily in the middle of a crowd of costumers at the tower, and ends up getting wounds bleeding a decent amount of her golden blood during the showdown at the tower. This comes into play with Charlie, Vaggie and Emily's polyamorous relationship becoming publicly known in later chapters and fics, as both facts end up being largely taken advantage of by the Vees and many other Sinners to earn money and advertise the particular sex appeal of angels, much to Vaggie's own chagrin.
- Emily first learns of how Vaggie got in Hell. Knowing that Vaggie was specifically mutilated and left behind by Lute and Adam makes Emily so mad because she's aware that only the Elders of Heaven are constitutionally allowed to kick angels out of Heaven, prompting her to raise her voice and try to rant that she'll take care of Lute's crime until Vaggie interrupts her by telling her to calm down.
- Emily, Cherri Bomb and Vaggie all first learn of Husk's former Overlord status when he mentions it's why he has knowledge of how soul contracting works and is managed, with Angel Dust casually answering Cherri with the same words as the question she asks to Husk. Surprsingly, it also turns out that Charlie has been aware of it for a long time, having apparently known or heard of Husk's time as an Overlord.
- At the beginning of Aftershocks' "Day Zero", Valentino first learns that Angel Dust is still alive after assuming that he died back in the first fic's "Revelations", and promptly tells Vox and Velvette about Emily's capability to forcibly break soul contracts, much to the latter two's shock.
- In Aftershocks' "Day One", Vaggie first learns that Lucifer and Sera are exes when Charlie casually tells Lucifer that he should go see "his ex-girlfriend", and clarifies that "Seviathan told [her]". Her reaction at the fact is nothing short of Brain Bleach.
- In the first fic's "Revelations":
- Interspecies Romance:
- While the throuple of Charlie, Vaggie and Emily all share a ground as complete or partial angels, they're all of different specific species. Charlie is a Hellborn Fallen Angel and ambiguous-status human hybrid, Vaggie is a Winner, and Emily is a Heavenborn Seraphim.
- Charlie and Vaggie weren't the first two people whom Emily had an Interspecies Romance with, as she had previously dated the Winner Molly.
- Niffty, a rank-and-file Sinner, and Seviathan, a Hellborn noble demon, start dating from "Day Three" of Aftershocks onwards.
- Mass "Oh, Crap!": In the first fic's "Proverbs", Husk, Charlie, Vaggie, Angel and Cherri all get shocked when Emily offhandedly mentions "[her] deal with Alastor" (referring to the agreement she did with him in an attempt to free Husk from his soul contract with Alastor back at the beginning of "Kings"), and immediately get worried about the possibility of her having willingly binded her soul to Alastor, until Emily clarifies that she made the deal for the sake of Husk's soul. Even then, they remain alerted of Emily possibly screwing up in that regard until she manages to get Alastor to break Husk's contract and free him in "Revelations".Emily: [to Angel and everyone in the hotel at the same time] I'm not going to abandon Charlie. Or Vaggie. Or you. Or anyone here. Or my deal with Alastor. Or this hotel. Or redemption.
[Husk's pupils dilate]
Charlie and Vaggie: [gasp at the same time] EMILY!
Cherri Bomb: Holy shit.
Vaggie: Emily, you made a deal with Alastor!?
Husk: No. Nonono. Tell me you didn't.
Charlie: Please tell me it wasn't for your soul.
Angel Dust: What the fuck, Em? - Motor Mouth: Both Charlie and Emily get their moments of extremely fast talking, displayed in the fic's writing as speech text with no space between words.[from the first fic's "Exodus"] Emily: I'vegotsomuchtotellyou!Youwouldn'tbelievewhat'sgoingoninHEAVEN!
[from the first fic's "Songs"] Charlie: Here'sthemoneyjustreplaceeverythingweneed! - Named by the Adaptation: The generic demon child whom Vaggie tried to spare in the flashback from "Welcome to Heaven" appears onscreen in Aftershocks to stay at the hotel, and he's given the name of Timothy.
- Not So Above It All: Although she generally presents herself as more polite and modest than even Charlie (especially because of Heaven's strict standards for drinking and sex as established in canon), Emily progressively shows that she can also be mature and vulgar over the course of the series.
- At the end of the first fic's "Exodus", when Emily first enters the hotel and sees that Husk's front desk is actually a bar, Emily initially considers not drinking anything for the moment, only to change her mind on second thought and order Husk a white wine for her to drink. The alcoholic beverages she orders diversify as she gets more used to Husk, though they consistently remain light in alcohol content.
- In "Kings", to the surprise of everyone at the hotel, Emily mentions that she has decent sexual experience, which she later explains in "Proverbs" as being due to her losing her virginity to Molly (who proves to be as much of a sexual deviant as her brother Angel Dust). While she had put down Molly's offering to join orgies in Heaven and remains naïve to fetishistic clothing, she proves herself to be willing to have sex with Charlie and Vaggie by the time of "Lamentations". Later when she has her first Three-Way Sex with Charlie and Vaggie in "Revelations", Emily expresses a particular sexual interest for seeing Charlie transform into her full demon form out of sexual arousal.Emily: I'm an angel. From Heaven. And I'm neither a child, an Exorcist, nor ace. Why would I be a virgin?
Cherri Bomb: Wait, so you aren't all into abstinence or some shit up there?
Emily: [laughs] What kind of Heaven would that be? - In Aftershocks' "Day Zero", Emily drops her first Precision F-Strike in the series after having refused to swear before that moment, commenting that Husk's suggestion of swearing to let her feelings out is actually useful.Emily: [talking about Seviathan to Charlie] Yes, I have blind spots. But Charlie, that's not a blind spot. That's... ...That's a fucking void!
[Charlie and Vaggie are left in Stunned Silence at Emily's F-bomb]
Emily: [in a whispering tone aimed at herself] Husk was right. That did feel cathartic.
- Oh, Crap!:
- In the first fic's "Songs", Vaggie gets shocked and infuriated when Angel Dust points a giant billboard to her during their car trip to the Vees' Extermination Memorial, said billboard featuring a fake illustration of her naked and reclining seductively with the words "The Vagyna Model" written on it. Vaggie's shock specifically comes from the fact that she essentially no longer has any sexual privacy in Hell thanks to most Sinners cashing on the knowledge of her angelic status and the polycule she had recently solidified with Charlie and Emily (not helped by the fact that by then, she only had her first time with Charlie and Emily together last night, at the end of the previous chapter).Vaggie: Me cago en tu puta madre! Right on the main thoroughfare!?!
- In Aftershocks' "Day One", Leonard has this reaction when he sees Alastor for the first time at the hotel, making him realize that the hotel's bartender really is Husk as he first suspected, and, with no knowledge of the past events that led to Husk being freed from his former contract with Alastor, assumes that the hotel was a trap scheme set up by Alastor to catch Sinners soul-bound to Husk, trying to escape from the hotel until Husk comes after Leonard and clarifies to him what's been going on.
Vaggie's shock specifically comes from the fact that she essentially no longer has any sexual privacy in Hell thanks to most Sinners cashing on the knowledge of her angelic status and the polycule she had recently solidified with Charlie and Emily (not helped by the fact that by then, she only had her first time with Charlie and Emily together last night, at the end of the previous chapter).
- Original Character: Leonard, an original Sinner with the appearance of a shark who is among the people soul-bound to Husk. He first appears at the end of the first fic's "Songs" to request a room at the hotel, and remains a supporting character in the first few chapters of Aftershocks until his death in "Day Five: Part One".
- Parental Sexuality Squick:
- Inverted with Lucifer, who gets uncomfortable at hearing people talk about Charlie's sex life on multiple occasions.
- During the breakfast scene in the first fic's "Kings", as he watches Charlie question about why Emily would mention being an Exorcist as a factor for virginity, followed by Vaggie telling Charlie not only how Adam sexually treated the Exorcist army but also the fact that she's the first person she's ever had sex with, Lucifer comments about there being a presence of Skewed Priorities during what is the Hazbin Hotel's first meeting with Heaven's newly-designated ambassador to Hell (wherein Emily had just formally announced Sir Pentious' redemption and Heaven's new plan to cooperate with the hotel's mission, not less).Lucifer: We just had news that shakes the foundation of Heaven and Hell, and this is the conversation we're having. My daughter's sex life. Again.
- At the beginning of "Songs", as Angel Dust explains the collateral property damage caused by Charlie during her Three-Way Sex with Vaggie and Emily last night, not only does Charlie get mortified out of embarrassment, but Lucifer also feels uneasy from seeing Angel poke fun at the power extent of his daughter's sexual arousal and orgasming.
- During the breakfast scene in the first fic's "Kings", as he watches Charlie question about why Emily would mention being an Exorcist as a factor for virginity, followed by Vaggie telling Charlie not only how Adam sexually treated the Exorcist army but also the fact that she's the first person she's ever had sex with, Lucifer comments about there being a presence of Skewed Priorities during what is the Hazbin Hotel's first meeting with Heaven's newly-designated ambassador to Hell (wherein Emily had just formally announced Sir Pentious' redemption and Heaven's new plan to cooperate with the hotel's mission, not less).
- Played both inverted and straight in an older sister and ex-boyfriend's child variant in the first fic's "Lamentations". When Sera learns that Emily is dating Charlie, she's quick to figure out that Emily will have sex with her soon, a thought that disgusts her out of awkwardness from reminding her of the time she and Lucifer were a couple. Conversely, Emily gets shocked as soon as Sera starts talking about it, and tells her to cut the topic.Sera: I take it you will be staying at the Hazbin Hotel until reconstruction of the Embassy is finished?
Emily: No. Much longer. I'm sleeping with Charlie and Vaggie now. [Sera freezes at what she said] Pass the peas, please?
Sera: You're... sleeping... with Lucifer's daughter?
Emily: Yes. [briefly stares at Sera's face before laughing lightly] We're not having sex yet.
Sera: Yet. But you intend to.
Emily: If they ask, I'm hoping they do.
Sera: Emily...
Emily: You don't have a problem with that. Do you?
Sera: [Beat] Only that you make me feel old.
Emily: [blinks perplexly] Huh?
Sera: It was so long ago that Lucifer and I...
Emily: [squeeks with a blank face] ...what?
Sera: It was before his fall, of course. But the idea that my sister and his daughter...
Emily: STOP! Stop telling me this! - In Aftershocks' "Day Zero", when Seviathan tells Charlie that Frederick is currently at the Sloth Ring with Lucifer and "his ex", Charlie initially assumes that the "ex" in question is Lilith, until Seviathan corrects himself by saying "that fallen seraphin", as in Sera. Charlie ends up having a blank, mostly silent stare in reaction to the mere idea of her father having dated Sera, much to Seviathan's own surprise.Seviathan: Seemed like the right time to reconnect, von Eldritch to Morningstar. I mean, you know where he is right now, my father?
Charlie: Where?
Seviathan: Sloth. Reconnecting with your dad. And getting himself a chance to make a good impression with his ex.
Charlie: What!? ...Mom?
Seviathan: Oh! No no! Sorry, hellkitty, I didn't mean... No, I meant that fallen seraphim. [Charlie simply stares at him in Stunned Silence] Wait, you didn't know Lucifer and that fallen seraphim used to be a thing?
Charlie: ...what...?!
Seviathan: Shit, how many ex-girls does your old man have? And they call me a playboy! - An in-law variant in Aftershocks' "Day One". Vaggie first learns of Lucifer and Sera's former item when Charlie casually mentions it to get Lucifer on his nerves, and she's left in Stunned Silence for a while, until she tells Charlie that she would have given her some of her Brain Bleach had she not used it all to get Niffty's shipping of Lute and Valentino out of her head back in the previous chapter.
- Inverted with Lucifer, who gets uncomfortable at hearing people talk about Charlie's sex life on multiple occasions.
- Polyamory: The series gets its title from the series-wide romantic arc of the already Official Couple Charlie and Vaggie developing crushes on Emily and eventually forming a throuple with her, complete with the three earning several Shippers on Deck. After their relationship's been solidified by the time of the first fic's last two chapters, the next two fics puts their throuple status aside in favor of setting up a broader plot with more storylines, though starting from the penultimate chapter of Charlie's Angels: Aftershocks, the three start calling each other "wives" in light of the changes that both Hell and Heaven experienced (including Emily becoming the new High Seraphim).
- Promoted to Love Interest:
- In Hazbin Hotel itself, Emily's friendliness with Charlie and Vaggie is purely platonic, with none of the three crushing on each other beyond Charlie and Vaggie's Official Couple status. Here, they form a polyamorous relationship together in the latter half of the first fic, following romantic build-up in the earlier chapters, and remain a throuple acknowledged by all the other characters for the rest of the series.
- The first fic's chapter "Proverbs" establishes that Emily and Molly are ex-girlfriends, with their past relationship being what made Emily lose her virginity. At the time of the fic's writing, Molly was already written and officially showcased, but had yet to make her debut in Hazbin Hotel with only an implied cameo in the episode "Welcome to Heaven", with no indication that she and Emily even know each other at all.
- The canon series has never stated if Lucifer and Sera really knew or ever talked to each other in the first place. In the first fic's chapter "Lamentations", Sera reveals to Emily that she and Lucifer used to be an item before the latter's fall, which is why she finds it awkward to know that her own sister is dating Lucifer's daughter. Having never known of this fact before, Emily likewise reacts in shock and tells Sera to stop trying to elaborate on the topic.
- Related in the Adaptation: Sera and Emily are Ambiguously Related in Hazbin Hotel. Here, they're explicitly stated to be sisters, Sera being the older sister and Emily the younger one.
- Shipper on Deck:
- In the first fic, Emily starts off as one for Charlie and Vaggie, claiming that they're the best couple ever.
- Over the course of the first fic, Charlie, Vaggie and Emily get several people who enthusiastically tease and/or support them about forming a poly relationship.
- In "Kings", after seeing how much Charlie and Emily are alike, Angel Dust teases Vaggie about having sex with Emily, and is clearly excited about the idea of Emily joining in Charlie and Vaggie's relationship. For the next few chapters, Angel acts as a Romantic Wingman for three girls, until they eventually consummate their newly-formed polycule at the end of "Revelations", which Angel then congratulates Charlie and Vaggie for in "Songs".Angel Dust: Just so you know... we're rooting for you three. Have been for a few days now.
Charlie: R-really?
[Vaggie makes a surprised expression]
Angel Dust: Yeah. Cherri and I both saw it coming, long before we heard you cumming.
[both Charlie and Vaggie get shocked at Angel's statement] - In "Songs", when Lucifer first learns from Emily that she had sex with Charlie and Vaggie last night, Lucifer immediately figures out that it's because they've become a throuple, and congratulates Emily for it.
- In "Kings", after seeing how much Charlie and Emily are alike, Angel Dust teases Vaggie about having sex with Emily, and is clearly excited about the idea of Emily joining in Charlie and Vaggie's relationship. For the next few chapters, Angel acts as a Romantic Wingman for three girls, until they eventually consummate their newly-formed polycule at the end of "Revelations", which Angel then congratulates Charlie and Vaggie for in "Songs".
- In Aftershocks, Niffty becomes a Shipper on Deck for Lute and Valentino.
- Stunned Silence:
- In the first fic's "Exodus", everyone eating at the hotel's dinner stares at Angel Dust in silence when he asks Charlie if she's really sure that she's bisexual and not lesbian, since he never saw her feel sexual attraction towards any males. Lucifer takes it a step further by making a Thousand-Yard Stare.
- In the first fic's "Proverbs":
- When Vaggie kisses Emily on the cheek, Emily and Charlie briefly freeze still out of shock from feeling and seeing Vaggie's kiss, respectively.
- When Emily hands Angel Dust the letter to the hotel written by Molly, Angel reacts with sheer surprise at the fact that his sister is not only in Heaven, but also willing to help him get out of his current situation. He ends up turning completely silent after he asks Emily how she personally knew Molly in the first place and Emily answers him that it's because they're exes, much to Angel's shock.
- In the first fic's "Lamentations", Sera freezes for a moment when Emily tells her that she's currently sleeping with Charlie and Vaggie at the hotel, out of shock from the mere idea that her younger sister would be dating Lucifer's daughter, due to Sera herself having dated Lucifer prior to the latter's fall.
- In Aftershocks' "Day Zero", Charlie and Vaggie end up staring at Emily in silent shock when the latter drops her first Precision F-Strike in the series to describe what she thinks Seviathan is like.
- Take Up My Sword: Downplayed. At the end of the first fic's final chapter, "Songs", Emily first learns that Sera was declared a Fallen Angel and cast into Hell by the Elders of Heaven, and Lucifer later tells Emily that because she's the closest heir to Sera, she has unconditionally succeeded her as Heaven's High Seraphim. One of the major plot points introduced in the chapter and later involved in Aftershocks is Emily learning how to handle her new position in Heaven in the midst of juggling it with her already-established role as Heaven's ambassador to Hell.
- Third-Party Deal Breaker: Emily turns out to be capable of touching, manipulating and breaking soul contracts between Sinners and Overlords (or, in her own words "demonic pacts"), which normally can only be touched and manipulated by Overlords and their contractors, and the possibility of which is the reason why Alastor proposes a deal over Husk's soul with her to see if she can successfully free Sinners from soul contracts. While she can meddle with contracts and soul chains with her own bare hands, as shown when she moves Valentino's leash on Angel Dust to put Val in a situation where he'd have no choice but to let Angel out of his grasp and postpone his job shift for a later day in "Acts", it's revealed from references that Sir Pentious had found at the Golden Library in "Lamentations" that Emily needs to combine her own power with an angelic weapon aimed at a chain collar in order to forcibly break the contract, which is how she frees Angel from Val once and for all at the beginning of "Revelations".
- Title Drop:
- As far back as early in the first fic, the narration repeatedly refers to Charlie, Vaggie and Emily together as "Charlie and her angels" or variations thereof.
- In the first fic's "Songs", during the hotel group's preparation to exit the hotel and fight Lute and Vox, Angel Dust talks to Charlie and drops the "Charlie's Angels" name itself to refer to the polycule she and Vaggie had recently solidified with Emily, prompting Charlie to blush in reaction.
- Violently Protective Girlfriend: Over the course of the fic, not only is Charlie and Vaggie's protectiveness for each other as a couple from canon even more emphasized upon, but Emily also proves that she'll also step up if either Charlie and/or Vaggie are endangered as well; the feeling is clearly mutual between the three girlfriends.
- In the first fic's "Proverbs", when Charlie and Vaggie learn from Angel Dust that Valentino's currently producing a Snuff Film involving a fictionalized version of Charlie fighting a squad of Exorcists who were having an orgy, Charlie gets deeply disgusted and insecure at Cherri Bomb's read of the summary, prompting Vaggie to rage and claim that she'll kill Valentino for bothering to make such a movie about Charlie in the first place.
- In the first fic's "Revelations", Charlie threateningly swears that she'll kill Izzi in response to Vaggie telling her that Izzi had badly injured her during the Mêlée à Trois at Valentino's porn studio in order to free Angel from Val's soul control, complete with progressively shifting into her full demon form until she's interrupted by Cherri telling her that she had already killed Izzi herself at the end of the porn studio showdown.
- In the first fic's "Songs", tired of waiting in a traffic jam while inside a Vees limousine, Velvette steps out of the limo and incidentally hits Charlie, who was running by the limo, while opening the door. Vaggie comes to the limo's place shortly after and knocks Velvette out for nearly making Charlie stumble.
- You Are the New Trend: A variant. Once Charlie, Vaggie and Emily's polyamorous relationship becomes publicly known in the first fic's "Songs", the Sinner populace outside the hotel doesn't necessarily try to copy their looks and mannerisms, but many of them start getting interested about the topic of sexual relationships between demons and angels during "Songs" and much of Aftershocks, with Velvette cashing in on the trend by releasing a fashion line of clothing about Charlie, Vaggie and Emily without asking for their consent at all. The news become so widespread that Hellborn demons in the rings beyond the Pride Ring become aware of the trend as well, as shown when an Incubus in Aftershocks' "Day One" recognizes Vaggie as "the Vagyna Model".
- Affectionate Gesture to the Nose: In "Acts", Charlie boops Vaggie's nose while taunting her about how she was staring at her and Emily's rear ends during their walk home back from Cannibal Town.
- Affectionate Nickname:
- Emily receives a handful of nicknames from some of her teammates and allies.
- Cherri Bomb usually refers to Emily as "E".
- Angel Dust calls Emily "Em" at times.
- Molly calls Emily "Emi".
- In "Proverbs", Cherri Bomb starts referring to Sir Pentious as "Penty", something Angel Dust immediately catches notice of.Cherri: Well, if crayons got Penty into Heaven...
Angel: Oh, he's Penty now?
Cherri: Shut it, Angie.
- Emily receives a handful of nicknames from some of her teammates and allies.
- Anywhere but Their Lips: Despite both Vaggie and Charlie developing crushes on Emily almost immediately after the latter gets a room at the hotel, and even discussing about kissing her, Vaggie and Charlie refrain from kissing Emily until Charlie kisses Emily on the lips for the first time in "Lamentations", a moment that signifies that they're ready to date and become a throuple with Emily.
- Arc Villain: Izzi is the series' first proper antagonist, being the main threat to the hotel group in the first fic's chapters from "Acts" to "Revelations". However, he's revealed to be working for Lute and Vox in their efforts to restart the Extermination.
- Armor-Piercing Question:
- In "Judges", Sera tries to defend herself against Emily's numerous questions to her regarding Heaven's treatment of redemption and Sinners in general, until Emily yellingly asks her why the Exterminations were implemented in the first place if no threat of uprising from Hell's Sinners was reported at all, leaving Sera speechless aside from trying to mention Adam, which Emily immediately shoots down as well for not explaining why Adam would still be in Heaven despite the years-long chain of annual genocides he instigated.Emily: HOW THE HELL WERE THEY UPRISING IF THEY'VE NEVER BEEN A THREAT BEFORE!?
Sera: [after a Beat] Adam...
Emily: You've seen Adam. How he talks. How he treats people. You saw how he was glorying in slaughter... slaughter I now know was against completely defenseless people... taking sadistic pleasure in it! You saw what he did to Vaggie and Charlie in the Courtroom! HOW IS ADAM STILL IN HEAVEN?!? [Beat] For allowing this, how are you? - Played for Laughs in "Acts", during Vaggie's meeting with Rosie to get some advice on how to deal with her new crush on Emily and Charlie's opinion on it. Rosie is quick to assume that a polyamorous circle is forming between Charlie, Vaggie and Emily. When Vaggie explains to her that her crush on Emily plus the likely possibility of Charlie crushing on her too has left her lost on what to do, Rosie tells her that even when she feels down in such situation, everything will become better in the end, capping it off by asking Vaggie if she's ever thought of having a Three-Way Sex with Charlie and Emily together. Vaggie reacts with shock at Rosie's question, and it leads to her unwittingly looking at Charlie and Emily in a more dirty way during their walk back home from Cannibal Town, much to her own embarrassment.Rosie: Your new reality is clashing with a self-image you have been clinging to for dear life. When you're that invested in a worldview, it's perfectly natural to feel threatened, and on the edge of an abyss, when something comes along and up-ends it. No matter how much you know everything is on the verge of being even better.
Vaggie: So what do I do?
Rosie: Have you considered having sex?
Vaggie's thoughts: What?!
- In "Judges", Sera tries to defend herself against Emily's numerous questions to her regarding Heaven's treatment of redemption and Sinners in general, until Emily yellingly asks her why the Exterminations were implemented in the first place if no threat of uprising from Hell's Sinners was reported at all, leaving Sera speechless aside from trying to mention Adam, which Emily immediately shoots down as well for not explaining why Adam would still be in Heaven despite the years-long chain of annual genocides he instigated.
- Ask a Stupid Question...: In "Lamentations", while at the Sloth Ring's St. An's hospital, Emily asks Charlie and Vaggie about who "Saint An" is, assuming the hospital is named after a person, only to almost immediately back off and tell them to forget the question.Emily: So... who is Saint An? [winces almost immediately, then changes to whispering] That was stupid. Please forget I asked.
- Bad People Abuse Animals: Or rather, Bad People Abuse Partially-Sapient Companions. After failing to get both Cherri Bomb and Niffty under his thumb in the middle of "Acts", Izzi tries to hurt the rest of the hotel crew's feelings, starting by subjecting Razzle to a torturous life-death curse (i.e. crucifying him with numerous additional wounds to leave him in eternal pain until he's taken out of the crucifixtion with easy chances to bleed out) at the end of "Acts" in order to break Charlie's heart. Razzle gets better, as with Vaggie and Emily accompanying her, Charlie manages to liberate him from the curse and have him hospitalized at the St. An's Hospital in the Sloth Ring in "Lamentations".
- Bait-and-Switch: In "Exodus", when Emily starts picking up the papers scattered on the floor at the Heaven Embassy and announces about cleaning up the place for tomorrow, Charlie loudly yells an excited "FUCK YEAH!" in response. Seeing Emily freeze just at that moment makes Charlie assume she got shocked at her Precision F-Strike and try to apologize to her for it. However, Emily stays still with no reaction even as Vaggie tries to tell her that the Heaven Embassy is practically the cleanest place in Hell, and it's not until Charlie walks up to her that the two realize that Emily's actually staring intently at Charlie's crayon drawings from "Overture".
- Batter Up!: Izzi's main weapon is a baseball bat covered in angelic steel nails.
- Better to Die than Be Killed: At the climax of "Songs", Lute attempts to commit suicide with her own angelic sword when Emily disallows her from advancing any further with her attempted scheme to avenge Adam and continue with the Exterminations, and forces her to choose between returning to Heaven while being reassigned to a different job, or stay in Hell. She ends up being stopped from doing so by Vaggie, and gets formally cast out of Heaven by the Elders immediately afterward, forcing her to live in Hell for the rest of the series.
- Big "NO!":
- In "Revelations", Cherri Bomb yells "NO!!!" when Izzi's attempted assassination on Valentino while Angel Dust's caught in the crossfire leads to Angel almost dying, making her really mad at Izzi and motivating her to defeat him once and for all.
- Downplayed at the beginning of "Songs". When an intense ray of light appears and spreads throughout most of Hell, Emily realizes that Sera was kicked out of Heaven and awakens in panic, worried about her older sister's safety. Her spoken reaction is a long, dragged-out "Nooooooooooo...", which, while not intense to the point of shouting, receives a great amount of emphasis.
- Big "OMG!": At the beginning of "Songs", Emily yells out a "oh my gosh" when she realizes that she flew out of the window to her shared bedroom with Charlie and Vaggie while naked and fresh off having sex last night, and talked to Lucifer with her nude body on display in the hotel's surrounding area.Emily: OHMYGOSH! I didn't mean to...!
- Big "YES!": Charlie's initial response to Emily announcing her that her plan for redeeming Sinners has recently turned out to be capable of working is yelling "YES!!!", before stepping back and asking Emily for the context.
- Call-Back: In "Acts", Valentino unsuccessfully tries to offer Emily a role in one of his studio's porn movies, much like how he asked Charlie back in the canon series' episode "Masquerade"; only that this time, Val is completely aware of Emily's intention of pulling Angel out of the studio, so he deliberately gives her the offer as a peace deal. Emily also doesn't have any nonsense with Val and immediately tries to break Angel's soul chain to Val, compared to Charlie's attempt at being diplomatic until she witnessed the way Val treats Angel.
- Conveniently Common Kink: At the end of "Lamentations", Vaggie tells Charlie that she has a particular kink for the latter's full demon form, something she's worried that Emily probably wouldn't like seeing once they have Their First Time. Come the actual beginning of the first time in "Revelations", Vaggie is left speechless when Emily takes her warning for handling Charlie's full demon form with excitement, and compliments Vaggie for being "into [that]", all but flat-out indicating that Emily shares the kink with Vaggie.
- Costume-Test Montage: In "Acts", during Charlie's visit to Hannibal's boutique to get Emily a new dress after the one she was wearing until then had just gotten damaged, there's a vaguely described montage framed like a song sequence wherein Hannibal shows Emily a variety of dressed for her to try on while the two dance at the same time. The montage ends once Emily settles on a lavender Victorian-style dress.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: In "Revelations", when Izzi comes to attack Valentino's porn studio, alerting Valentino himself into preparing to fight him, he succeeds in severely injuring Valentino and killing a lot of his employees at the studio in a short period of time.
- Delayed Reaction: In "Exodus", when Emily first tells Charlie that her plan to redeem Sinners has recently turned out to work without giving further context, Charlie lets out a Big "YES!", only to process Emily's statement a few seconds later and get confused, asking Emily to explain why.
- Department of Redundancy Department: At the beginning of "Proverbs", the narration refers to Vaggie's coffee drinking as "a respectable drink of respectable sextuple espresso."
- Destructo-Nookie: Exaggerated and Played for Laughs. "Revelations" ends with Charlie, Vaggie and Emily having a threesome during nighttime that's at least an hour long, and while the specifics of what they did aren't seen nor stated, the moment they start having sex immediately cuts to a scene at the Hazbin Hotel's bar, showing the combined power of their many orgasms (which amount to well over 70 for Charlie alone) causing earthquakes and property damage across the entire hotel, with Angel Dust and Husk deciding to record a video of the whole thing and count the number of orgasms Charlie has during the threesome. The beginning of the next chapter, "Songs", which takes place during the next day, sees Angel Dust and Husk explaining to Charlie, Vaggie and Emily the destructive extent of their threesome (with the earthquakes spreading well beyond the hotel itself and to other parts of Pentagram City), leading to the three girls getting embarrassed. It gets to the point that Angel Dust and Husk jokingly give Charlie's orgasming the nickname of "Charliegasms" for its sheer destructive nature.note
- Eating the Eye Candy: After leaving Cannibal Town in "Acts", Rosie's suggestion to Vaggie about her having sex with Charlie and Emily at the same time lingers in Vaggie's head for a good part of the trip, leading to her staring intently at Charlie and Emily's hips and rears, much to her own embarrassment. Charlie eventually catches on what Vaggie's doing, and whispers to Emily to keep on walking the way they currently are just to play with Vaggie's mind, not telling it to Vaggie until at night, well after they've returned to the hotel for the remaining of the day.
- Erotic Dream: Invoked by Angel Dust on Vaggie. In "Kings", as he comments that Charlie and Emily are basically two of the same kind of person, he already shows signs of being a Shipper on Deck for Charlie, Vaggie and Emily together, and promptly teases Vaggie that she wouldn't know if she'd be having sex with Charlie or Emily if the three were to be put in a dark room together. To his own amusement, he manages to bring sexual imagery of Emily to Vaggie's mind, extending to her discussion with Charlie and her dreams at the end of the chapter (which she later brings up to Charlie and accidentally Emily herself in the next chapter). Husk also smirks when Vaggie first brings up the sex dream to Charlie in "Proverbs". Angel Dust only doubles down on his teasing for erotic dreams afterward, such as gifting Emily a catsuit just so that both Vaggie and Charlie can witness her trying it on.
- Evil Versus Evil: In "Revelations", Valentino's latest attempt to force Angel Dust to attend a long-delayed job shift at his porn studio ends up getting crossed in the middle when Izzi comes to ambush Val. It results in Izzi not only severely injuring Val in a Curb-Stomp Battle, but also killing a lot of his studio's employees. Val only survives because he uses Angel as a last-resort Human Shield against Izzi. To rub salt in the wound for Val's part, it's later revealed in the same chapter that both Izzi and the Vees were contracted by Lute on different occasions to assist her in fighting the hotel crew during her attempt to start another Extermination after their permanent cancellation, meaning that Lute suffered a significant blow to her scheme from Izzi's assassination attempt on Val.
- Extremely Short Timespan: Compared to the canon Hazbin Hotel series, which tends to skip through significant time gaps between episodes, the entire fanfic aside from the prologue takes place in a timeframe of only seven days, with each of the main chapters being delegated to each day.
- Fantastic Arousal: Emily's wings are a minor erogenous zone for her, not enough to make her feel significant sexual stimulation but capable of pleasuring and exciting her, as shown when Charlie and Vaggie stroke (and in the case of the former, nibbles) them during the foreplay preceding their first Three-Way Sex at the end of "Revelations".
- Feather Fingers: A downplayed variant. Emily's capable of using her wings as additional arms with limited extension and mobility, as shown when she uses one of her wings to open and close the door to her shared bedroom with Charlie and Vaggie at the end of "Lamentations".
- Feed It a Bomb: In "Revelations", Cherri Bomb kills Izzi by shoving her only angelic shrapnel bomb by then (an unused leftover from the last extermination's battle) inside his mouth and holding his head shut during the time it takes for the bomb to detonate.
- First Kiss: In "Lamentations", Charlie cries Tears of Joy when Emily tries to cheer her up by encouraging her to make another of her own crayon drawings and shows her a blank paper card and red crayon, quickly grabbing Emily and kissing her in the lips for the first time ever, to both Emily and Vaggie's sweetened surprise. Later in the chapter, Emily openly admits to Sera, Sir Pentious and Molly that she pretty much reciprocates Charlie and Vaggie's crushes on her, and is ready for a Relationship Upgrade with them.Emily: I'm in love with Charlie Morningstar and Vaggie! And even better, they're in love with me!!!
- Forceful Kiss:
- In "Acts", when all of the hotel crew after Niffty first meet Izzi and angrily confront him about his intention to kill all of them, Izzi drags Cherri Bomb and forcefully kisses her just before vanishing from everyone's sight.
- During Izzi's raid on the hotel at the beginning of "Lamentations", Niffty catches Izzi and lands several stabs on him, until Izzi grabs and kisses Niffty to get the upper hand and eventually injure her to the point that she's left unable to fight him any longer.
- Forgotten State of Undress: "Songs" opens with Lucifer knocking on the Hazbin Hotel's door to announce the hotel crew about Sera's recent fall from Heaven, and Emily coming to answer him. Having just woken up from her first Three-Way Sex with Charlie and Vaggie last night, and then had a frantic panic upon seeing her sister being cast out of Heaven just moments ago, Emily doesn't take the time to dress herself up and just flies out of the window to Charlie and Vaggie's bedroom in order to answer Lucifer. Although Lucifer notices Emily's nudity soon enough, he doesn't bring it up to her until he's finished explaining to her about what's currently happening to Sera, leading to Emily getting embarrassed after she clarifies to him that she just had sex with Charlie and Vaggie and realizes that someone else outdoors could have seen her naked had everyone in Pentagram City not been drawing their attention to Sera's fall at the time. Lucifer simply congratulates her for forming a polycule with Charlie and Vaggie, and tells her that they should just enter the hotel so she can get over her embarrassment from being briefly naked in the open outdoors.
- Gilligan Cut: A Black Comedy example. In "Kings", after the hotel members discuss over where Charlie should take Emily to for the tour she's going to give her through Hell, and Charlie herself promptly suggests to just take Emily on a stroll in a random place in Pentagram City, Emily says that she's ready to go with her and Vaggie. Cut to "less than an hour later", when the three return to the hotel via a portal made by Emily, with Emily covered in blood and expressing a bewildered face, while an angry Charlie and Vaggie appear to have just gotten in a violent fight with someone else. Emily yelps that she "was not ready".note Emily: I'm ready!
[cut to the next scene]
Emily: I was NOT ready!
Angel Dust: [after a Beat with no one speaking anything] If you're wondering why you're not getting more of a reaction, it's because literally everybody predicted this. - Harassing Phone Call: In "Acts", while Charlie, Vaggie and Emily are out to enter and then leave Cannibal Town for advice and supplies to deal with Izzi following the latter's first attack on the hotel, Izzi himself tries to stalk Cherri Bomb by repeatedly calling her while she's at the hotel, and while what he says on the phone is never elaborated on, Cherri's reaction makes it clear that not only is he attempting to trick Cherri into the temptation of getting back together with him, but he's also looking to exploit Niffty's liking for him to benefit himself. Cherri eventually blocks Izzi from her phone contacts to stop him from harassing her any further.
- Hartman Hips: Discussed consistently by Charlie about Emily. Whenever she takes Emily to get and/or try on some new clothes, she tends to comment that Emily's hips are considerably wider than her own, implying that Emily leans to a bottom-heavy body shape. Notably, when Charlie says it at Hannibal's boutique in Cannibal Town in "Acts", Emily assumes that it's because Charlie supposedly dislikes the fact that her own hips are narrower, and tells her (with an additional compliment from Vaggie) that there's nothing wrong with having narrower hips.
- Has a Type: In "Proverbs", Vaggie realizes that she has a thing for Cutie-type girls during a discussion with Charlie about the issue with Vaggie's crush on Emily.Vaggie: Erotic. Thoughts.
Charlie: And when did these feelings start?
Vaggie: Just the other day. After Angel Dust made a comment about how much you and Emily are alike.
Charlie: And, in your estimation, are we?
Vaggie: Yeah, a bit. You have very similar... energy and optimism.
Charlie: And do you like those qualities in me?
Vaggie: Charlie, I adore those qualities in you. [Beat, then facepalms] Oh, fuck. I have a type. - Hate at First Sight: Alastor and Emily start to dislike each other as soon as they first meet in "Kings". Emily hates Alastor out of a combination of the way he introduced himself to her just to scare her, his sadistic personality, and the fact he's the soul contractor Husk (whom Emily had previously met at the end of the previous chapter, with full knowledge about the issue with his soul contract) is soul-bound to. While Alastor doesn't fully hate Emily back, he clearly despises that not only does Emily have the power and position to manipulate his bound souls for as long as she wishes and is able to, but is also capable of seeing his own contract, the source of his power and his biggest insecurity that would ruin his reputation in Hell if it ever becomes publicly known. After Emily accepts Alastor's proposed challenge of trying to find a way to break Husk's contract, the two have a strong Teeth-Clenched Teamwork relationship throughout the rest of the series, due to their shared affiliation to the Hazbin Hotel in spite of their very different visions.
- Heh Heh, You Said "X":
- At the beginning of "Proverbs", Husk prepares Vaggie a cup of sextuple espresso coffee after the latter ordered him to serve her a coffee of the strongest variety possible, and Angel Dust laughs at the fact the coffee's name has the "sex" syllable in it when he hears Husk saying it.
- "Sextuple" gets brought up again in "Songs". When Cherri Bomb comments about how Sir Pentious' hologram from Heaven is solid and has indistinguishable touch from that of his physical person, Pentious tells her that it's because he applied "sextuple the power" to the hologram, at which both Angel Dust and Molly simultaneously say "Kinky!"
- Human Shield: In "Revelations", a severely injured Valentino uses Angel Dust as a shield to avoid getting himself killed by Izzi; to both Val and the hotel crew's own detriment, it results in Angel almost dying when Emily decides to use Vaggie's angelic spear (which Izzi was trying to grasp just before) to break Angel out of Valentino's leash on him, inadvertently giving Angel an Impromptu Tracheotomy in the process.
- Impromptu Tracheotomy: An accidental example in "Revelations". When Emily uses Vaggie's angelic spear to break Valentino's leash on Angel Dust, she accidentally stabs Angel Dust's throat in the process. Due to Izzi having held the spear just before Emily's intervention, this causes Cherri Bomb to get mad at Izzi and prompts her to kill the latter by shoving her only angelic shrapnel bomb by then into his mouth. The throat stab itself results in Angel's voice becoming sore for the rest of the chapter.
- Interquel: The prologue, "Judges", takes place a week after the Hazbin Hotel episode "Welcome to Heaven" and a while before "Hello Rosie!". It involves Emily coming to angrily confront Sera over the latter's reasoning about why the Elders would be disinterested in ascending Sinners to Heaven and the purpose of the Exterminations.
- Jerkass to One: Of the "Cruel to One" variant. The usually kind and cheerful Emily always changes to a stern, angry mood whenever she talks to Alastor, in no part owed to their animosity ever since their first meeting. Alastor himself doesn't really mind it.
- LOL, 69: Lampshaded by Husk at the end of "Revelations". In the last line he speaks in the chapter while counting the total number of orgasms Charlie has been having during her Three-Way Sex with Vaggie and Emily, Husk notes that she's had a total of 69 orgasms, remarking the number with an acknowledging chuckle.Husk: Heh. Sixty-nine.
- Malicious Misnaming: Taking advantage of knowing why Adam originally gave Vaggie her name, and in line with Vaggie being publicly dubbed "The Vagyna Model" once her Fallen Angel status becomes known across all of Hell, Velvette insultingly calls Vaggie "Vagyna" when she attempts to confront her in "Songs", only for Vaggie to knock her out before she can finish her boasting taunt.
- Mêlée à Trois: The climactic fight against Izzi in "Revelations" ends up involving three different sides: Izzi himself; Valentino, whom Izzi went to try and assassinate at his porn studio in the chapter; and Angel Dust, Vaggie, Cherri Bomb and Emily, the former having come to Val's studio due to the latter's pressure on him only to get caught in the crossfire of Izzi's attempted assassination, while the latter three came to V Tower with him in order to ensure his safety.
- Mirror Character: Compared to canon, where it's not given much attention by the characters, Emily's official status as Heaven's mirror to Charlie is prominently commented, lampshaded and discussed here. The moment Emily and Charlie start having fun with each other in "Kings", Angel Dust comments that there are two "Charlies" in the hotel now and teases the fact to Vaggie.
- Mistaken for Gay: A variant in "Exodus". While every staff member and patron of the hotel, plus Lucifer, is having dinner and discussing about when Emily will come and what she'll do, Alastor and Lucifer begin arguing when the former calls Emily "the newest member of our Charlie's angel collection". Vaggie tells them to stop arguing, assuming that they're having a dick-measuring fight over Charlie and clarifying that Charlie is lesbian. Charlie not only has to correct Vaggie that she's actually bisexual, but also remind her that her father is one of the two men arguing. After Charlie herself tells Alastor and Lucifer to cool down, Angel Dust asks Charlie if she's really sure that she's bisexual, because he never saw her express sexual attraction towards males.Vaggie: Arrugh! [wields her silverware and points them at Alastor and Lucifer] Excuse me. In case you haven't noticed, Charlie is a lesbian. She absolutely couldn't care less who has the bigger dick. So please, stop measuring.
Charlie: [winces and whispers to Vaggie] Actually, I'm bisexual... [lowers her whisper further] And also, that's my dad.
[...]
Angel: [points his fork at Charlie] Also, are you sure you're bisexual? You don't handle male genitalia well.
[everyone in the hotel stares at Angel in Stunned Silence, with Lucifer in particular making a Thousand-Yard Stare]
Vaggie: [slams her silverware on the table] Say WHAT?!
Angel: Come on. You were literally shielding her eyes so she didn't throw up.
Vaggie: ...Oh. Yeah, the show and tell. We saw one of his porn movies. It was a thing. - The Nicknamer: Inverted for Emily, who's notably the character who receives the most nicknames from others, such as "Emi" by Molly, "Em" by Angel Dust, "E" by Cherri Bomb, etc.
- Nightmare Sequence: The opening sequence of "Songs", labeled as "the witching hour", involves several characters experiencing hallucinations of Izzi in the aftermath of the latter's death from the previous chapter, two of whom are Cherri Bomb and Emily having nightmares featuring Izzi while they're sleeping.
- No Sympathy: In "Songs", Alastor expresses amusement at Emily's grief for Sera's fall and taunts her about it, prompting Lucifer to push him away from Emily and call him a "sadistic piece of shit".
- Nothing Is the Same Anymore:
- In "Revelations", both Angel Dust and Husk are freed from their soul contracts with Valentino and Alastor after Emily learns out how to break a soul contract and does so with Angel's contract with Valentino (though not without Emily having to struggle in a fight with Valentino that led to Angel almost dying), which in turn leads to Alastor personally terminating Husk's own contract with him. Husk ends up regaining his original Overlord status to an extent, as all of his bound souls that were originally transferred to Alastor's ownership are returned to him, and he becomes able to tap into the full extent of his magic again, though he still doesn't have the social prominence he had in his peak time. Meanwhile, thanks to Alastor making a Faking the Dead gambit for Angel's sake, Angel is still able to make use of his employee privileges that the Vees had granted him, since Valentino hadn't bothered to revoke them after assuming that he had died.
- Between "Revelations" and "Songs", a radical change to both Hell and Heaven's status quo occurs when Sera is kicked out of Heaven for her massive inaction in overseeing the Exterminations in the past, with Sera being automatically declared a new co-ruler of Hell on par with Lucifer's level, and Emily being designated the new High Seraphim of Heaven.
- One-Word Title: All of the fic's chapters consist of a single word, usually a plural noun (with the exception of "Exodus").
- Open-Minded Parent: At the beginning of "Songs", when Emily tells him that she had sex with Charlie and Vaggie last night, Lucifer correctly guesses that it's because she's become a throuple with them, and is openly accepting of Charlie engaging in Polyamory.
- Post-Kiss Catatonia: Downplayed in "Proverbs". While Vaggie first mentions her recent Erotic Dream involving Emily to Charlie, Emily herself suddenly barges in and Charlie promptly tells her about the dream, making Vaggie embarrassed. Then, as Emily goes on to ramble how cute Charlie and Vaggie are as a couple, Vaggie suddenly kisses Emily on the cheek to interrupt her, and both Emily and Charlie briefly react in Stunned Silence at what she just did.
- Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: Said by Izzi to both Angel Dust and Valentino in "Revelations", which Val immediately catches on as Izzi plotting to kill him. Unfortunately for Val, Izzi quickly beats him up and leaves him in a severely injured state.Angel: Wait... you've had Alastor in your sights for days, and you're settling on Valentino?
Izzi: Radio demon or porn demon? Everybody watches porn, mate. Nobody gives a shit about radio. I want a trophy worth mounting.
Valentino: Wait... you're threatening ME? - Pre-Mortem One-Liner: In "Revelations", Cherri Bomb gives a fairly standard but anger-filled one-liner to Izzi just before she feeds him her only angelic shrapnel bomb by then, owed to her blaming him for almost getting Angel Dust killed when Emily took Vaggie's angelic spear from Izzi and accidentally stabbed Angel's throat with it while breaking Valentino's leash on him.Cherri: JUST. FUCKING. DIE. ALREADY!
- Punctuated! For! Emphasis!:
- Vaggie's shocked reaction to Cherri Bomb's read of the plot summary of a porn movie Valentino informed to Angel Dust that he was producing in "Proverbs", which... makes light of Charlie's newfound reputation as Hell's supposed heroine against Heaven as best as a porn film coming from Val's studio could do.Vaggie: WHAT. THE. FUCK!?
- In "Revelations":
- Emily's reaction when Vaggie tells her that she was specifically left in Hell by Lute and Adam.Emily: How dare they!? Angels don't get to kick other angels out of Heaven. It. Does. Not. Work. Like. That!
- Cherri Bomb's Pre-Mortem One-Liner to Izzi during the Mêlée à Trois between various hotel members, Izzi and Valentino in "Revelations".Cherri: JUST. FUCKING. DIE. ALREADY!
- The Big "WHAT?!" Valentino yells at Emily out of Unstoppable Rage for her permanently breaking his leash on Angel Dust and seemingly also killing him in his eyes.Valentino: What. The. Absolute. FUCK!?!
- Emily's reaction when Vaggie tells her that she was specifically left in Hell by Lute and Adam.
- Vaggie's shocked reaction to Cherri Bomb's read of the plot summary of a porn movie Valentino informed to Angel Dust that he was producing in "Proverbs", which... makes light of Charlie's newfound reputation as Hell's supposed heroine against Heaven as best as a porn film coming from Val's studio could do.
- Rapid-Fire "No!": In "Revelations", Emily softly says a string of "Nonononononono" when she sees that Angel Dust almost died from her accidental Impromptu Tracheotomy on him with Vaggie's spear, having expected a huge risk in trying to free him from Valentino's grasp on his soul, but not nigh lethal results from it.
- Ready for Lovemaking: At the end of "Revelations", Charlie and Vaggie set up a surprise proposal for Emily to have sex with them, namely by having Charlie wear the transparent nightgown Emily had bought for her earlier in the day as a gift at Angel Dust's suggestion (at the time of purchase, Emily didn't know exactly what it was other than Angel telling her that it's for "tonight"), and posing themselves... welcomingly to her at the bed in their shared bedroom. In an amusing twist, Emily doesn't understand what Charlie and Vaggie are intending when she first sees them like that, until they suddenly take off the bath towel she was dressed in from having a shower and leave her naked.
- Relationship Upgrade: Happens twice for Emily with Charlie and Vaggie.
- Midway through "Lamentations", Charlie kisses Emily on the lips for the first time in response to Emily trying to cheer her up after Charlie had confessed her recent regrets to her at St. An's, complete with Vaggie enamoratingly watching the scene. After leaving to St. An's and coming to Heaven shortly after, Emily confesses to Sera, Sir Pentious and Molly that she's already on the way to becoming Charlie and Vaggie's new shared girlfriend. The chapter ends with the three going to sleep in an intimate snuggle together.
- At the end of "Revelations", Charlie, Vaggie and Emily solidify themselves as a throuple by having their first threesome at night. Several other characters acknowledge the fact in the next chapter.
- Repetitive Name: In "Songs", it's established that VoxTek has a logistics delivery service subsidiary named VoxBox.
- Romantic Wingman: Angel Dust is a mischievous one to Charlie, Vaggie and Emily, deliberately setting up scenarios to make the three girls blush or get provoked by each other between "Proverbs" and "Revelations" as soon as he first learns of Vaggie's crush on Emily. By the time the girls have solidified themselves as an official throuple at the end of "Revelations", Angel becomes their most frequent commenter for the rest of the series.
- Sentence Left Hanging: Midway through "Revelations", Sera ends up having to face a crowd of protesting Winners in front of the Heaven's Court building over the unusual silence and ambiguity of Heaven's government over key aspects of the last extermination's events and the circumstances surrounding the change of plans to indirectly support the Hazbin Hotel. As Sera starts clarifying herself, she's quickly interrupted by the Elders vanishing her from her presence in Heaven and summoning her to an offscreen meeting with them.
- Sequel Hook: "Songs" ends with the hotel starting to get more guests as three characters come to the hotel's door: namely, the canon Seviathan von Eldritch and Crymini, and the Original Character Leonard.
- Snuff Film: A variant that involves approaching the Resurrective Immortality of Sinner actors. In "Proverbs", Valentino sends Angel Dust several promo mock-ups of a snuff porn movie he's currently producing at the time (the work on which is why he's letting Angel stay at the hotel for two work days) via phone chat. To Angel's own shock, the movie's premise involves a squad of 12 Exorcists having an orgy after an Extermination Day, only to be interrupted by and forced to fight a fictionalized version of Charlie (who's played by Tiffany Titfucker). When Cherri Bomb reads the summary out loud (while getting uncomfortable about it, no less), both Charlie and Vaggie react in horror, with Charlie getting so disgusted and embarrassed that she goes to her and Vaggie's bedroom to spend some alone time, and Vaggie enragingly threatening that she'll kill Val.
- Something Else Also Rises:
- Discussed at the end of "Lamentations". Vaggie tells Charlie that she's worried that if they were to have a threesome with Emily, Emily could dislike the fact that Charlie unleashes her full demon form every time she orgasms. Charlie replies that since Emily had already seen her full demon face before, it'd be best to simply mention it to her in advance so she can know what would be coming.
- At the end of "Revelations", Charlie transforms into her full demon form during the foreplay preceding her Three-Way Sex with Vaggie and Emily, as Vaggie warned to Emily just moments before. Emily expresses sheer excitement for the fact.
- Spy Catsuit: In "Proverbs", in response to Emily stating that she'll have to go to Heaven's Golden Library and do some research there, followed by Cherri Bomb assuming that she'll do a stealth mission, Angel Dust suggests to Emily that she should wear a catsuit for the occasion, and orders a white catsuit from Velvette's brand (the color suggested by Charlie because it'd blend better in Heaven's environment) immediately afterward. Once he receives the catsuit, Angel has Emily try it on in a way deliberately set up by him to give Charlie and Vaggie (who had already been crushing on Emily in the midst of Angel's past teasing of them) a provocative sight of her. Emily wears the catsuit for the rest of the chapter until she goes to bed, including wearing it under her regular dress during her trip to Heaven.note
- Squee: Frequently done by both Charlie and Emily.
- In "Kings":
- Emily lets out a long, very high-pitched squee at the sight of meeting Lucifer in person for the first time in her life.
- While eating from a pancake buffet Lucifer had magically created from breakfast, Emily briefly squees while staring at a batch of berry pancakes among the buffet.
- Charlie squees in reaction to Vaggie telling her that she's the first girlfriend she's ever had.
- In "Proverbs":
- Charlie squees when Emily claims to her and Vaggie that she's a big Shipper on Deck for the two, followed by Emily herself squeeing as well in response to Charlie's subsequent compliment to her.
- Emily's announcement to Molly that she's become Heaven's ambassador to Hell is preceded by a squee from her.
- Emily squees in response to both Molly and Sir Pentious saying that they can do their part in giving her information about how Hell's soul contracts work via documents at the Golden Library.
- When Vaggie confesses to Emily that she has a crush on her, Emily squees following a brief gasp, only to abruptly stop it to ask Vaggie if Charlie's aware of her crush.
- During dinner, Charlie and Emily squee happily at the same time in reaction to Vaggie saying that she forgave Lute when the latter came to confront her just before. Angel Dust in turn silently mouths to Vaggie something along the lines of "The same person", referring to Charlie and Emily's synchronization.
- At the end of "Acts", both Charlie and Emily squee when Emily agrees to move out of her initial bedroom at the hotel in favor of becoming the third occupant of Charlie and Vaggie's bedroom.
- In "Revelations":
- Charlie lets out a long squee in reaction to Husk feeling his liberation from Alastor's soul-bindings and the power of being a free Overlord again.
- At the end of the chapter, Emily squees twice out of excitement for getting to have sex with Charlie and Vaggie for the first time.
- In "Songs", when Emily sees Albert and Galileo for the first time onscreen, she tells them that Sir Pentious is excited to meet them. When Galileo replies to her by stating he's looking forward to having Pentious join Heaven's science business, Emily squees before promptly rushing off to attend the hotel's evening party.
- In "Kings":
- Take a Third Option: At the climax of "Songs", shortly after Lute's apprehension, Emily gives Lute a choice between returning to Heaven at Emily's order and quitting her now-thwarted scheme to keep the Exterminations going, or staying in Hell. Since Emily comments to her that the option to return to Heaven might be redundant because the Elders would most likely cast her into Hell anyway, Lute tries to kill herself by slitting her throat with her own angelic sword. Vaggie stops Lute's suicide attempt and the Elders formally leave Lute in Hell seconds afterward, forcing Lute to live there for the rest of the series.
- Tears of Joy:
- Tears form in Emily's eyes when she finds Charlie's drawing papers from the canon episode "Overture" at the Heaven Embassy in "Exodus", and tells Charlie that her drawings are pretty.
- In "Lamentations", Charlie cries happily when Emily gives her a blank paper card and red crayon to make a drawing and cheer herself up, getting so emotional to the point that she kisses Emily for the first time.
- Their First Time: "Revelations" ends with Charlie, Vaggie and Emily solidifying themselves as a polycule by having their first threesome.
- Three-Way Sex: At the end of "Revelations", Charlie, Vaggie and Emily have sex for the first time together in a threesome.
- Unstoppable Rage: In "Revelations", the Mêlée à Trois between Valentino, Izzi and the hotel members who come to the fight (Angel Dust, Vaggie, Cherri Bomb and Emily) ends up leaving severe consequences for Val, as his porn studio is left a destroyed mess with a lot of massacred employess, and he assumes Angel had died from Emily accidentally stabbing his throat while breaking Val's soul chain on him with Vaggie's spear (unaware that it's actually a hoax set up by Alastor outside in order to buy time and safety for Angel's sake). These crippling damages to his business drive Val into a state of roaring rage, transforming into his full demon form and chasing after Emily, Vaggie and Cherri until they escape with Angel via a portal to the hotel created by Emily.Valentino: [to Emily] YOU ARE HEAVEN'S DEADEST ANGEL!
- Victoria's Secret Compartment: In "Revelations", it's shown that Molly keeps her phone inside her cleavage when she receives a phone call.
- Villain Team-Up: Following a couple confrontations with both Lute and Valentino earlier in the fic and a progressive build-up throughout the plot, it's made clear in the later part of "Revelations" that Lute had contracted the Vees to assist her in providing propaganda control in Hell so she can attempt to start another Extermination more easily. With earlier evidence from previous chapters that Lute had likely also hired Izzi to try and kill the hotel crew as well, Husk also figures out that Lute must have used Izzi as a distraction from the hotel group while the Vees were preparing their media resources for Lute's scheme, only for the contracting with Izzi to backfire badly when the latter attempted to personally assassinate Valentino.
- Arc Villain: Victor, the False Horseman of Pestilence.
- Immediate Sequel: The fic starts right from the Sequel Hook of the first fic's "Songs".
- Multi-Part Episode: "Day Five" and "Day Eight" are split into two "parts" of separate chapters each, while "Day Seven" is split into three.
- Mythology Gag: At the end of Charlie, Vaggie and Emily's trip to the Lust Ring in "Day Zero", Emily reads the front page article of a newspaper issue of "Lust Ring News" on a vending machine, which is about Asmodeus saying "Love isn't stupid", much to Emily's bafflement at the mere idea of love being considered a controversial topic in Hell. It's strongly implied by the description of its photo that the article is referring to the moment Asmodeus confessed about his romantic relationship with Fizzarolli to the Hellborn public in the Helluva Boss episode "MAMMON'S MAGNIFICENT MUSICAL MIDSEASON SPECIAL (ft. Fizzarolli)".
- Phallic Weapon: Invoked in song in "Day Zero". Not long after he first enters the hotel, Seviathan sings a Heavy Metal song about a grandiose "magical rod", with the lyrics making numerous innuendos about it being the subject's penis. While Angel Dust and Leonard enjoy the song and join as backing vocalists (albeit singing completely unrelated lyrics to Seviathan's), Charlie and Vaggie are baffled at the song, Crymini finds it so unpleasant that she puts earbuds to drown the sound in her ears, and Emily gets outright terrified to the point of screaming.
- Previously on…: "Day Zero" opens with a brief recap of the events that happened at the end of the first fic's "Songs", which also features several new scenes not featured in "Songs" itself, before continuing the story from that chapter's Sequel Hook point.
- Spit Take: In "Day One", Lucifer spits out coffee from a cup Vaggie has just offered him, followed by a Big "WHAT?!" from him, when Vaggie tells him that Sir Pentious managed to create a death ray from Heaven to destroy the Heaven Embassy in Hell (which happened back in the first fic's "Songs", and was briefly replayed in the Previously on… sequence that opened "Day Zero").
- Theme Naming: Fittingly for the Lust Ring's nature as Hell's sex business center for the Hellborn populace, the various places at the ring that Vaggie, Charlie and Emily go to in "Day One" while Vaggie's on her way to deliver Angel Dust's mail package to Asmodeus' enterprises are full of names featuring sexual terms and slangs, with "cum" and its variations being the most common word.
- Villain Respect: Downplayed. At the beginning of "Day Zero", Velvette admits that even though she still has further plans to make sure the "Vagyna Model" image she had popularized to mock Vaggie stays permanent in Vaggie's reputation, she compliments the fact that Vaggie had the balls to slap her for it back in the first fic's "Songs", considering herself enough of an asshole to deserve it.
- You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: In the afternoon part of "Day One", when Emily kicks off a trust exercise of rhyming games (echoing Charlie's own rhyming games back in "Radio Killed the Video Star"), Leonard is flabbergasted at the mere idea that the Princess of Hell would have the High Seraphim of Heaven introduce herself to the hotel's new guests with rhyming games. Having gone through the rhyming games before in the same situation as Leonard currently is, Angel Dust tells him that it's an actual trust exercise with a taunting tone.Emily: My name's Emily! [claps twice] I like new friends. [claps twice] And I came down from Heaven to help us make amends.
Leonard: You've gotta be kiddin' me.
Angel Dust: [in an amused tone] Nope, this is for real.
Leonard: The Princess of Hell has the highest-ranking angel in Heaven down here playing rhyming games. That's fuckin' impressive. And weird.
- Ascended Demon: At the start of the fic, Cherri Bomb falls through a portal to Lust, which would normally kill her as Sinners can't travel into other Rings. Instead, she ascends to Heaven thanks to her selfless act.
- Department of Redundancy Department: The title of "Wars and Rumors of Wars".
- Eldritch Abomination: Azathoth turns out to be behind the creation of evil in the world, the polar opposite of God who coordinates the Horsemen in a plot to cause the Apocalypse.
- Horsemen of the Apocalypse: The fic's main antagonists are a group of demons and angels who took the mantles of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, with the overaching plot revolving around finding out who the Horsemen are and what their plans for starting the Apocalypse are. Each Horseman has a "Hand", their primary servant who receives some of their power, and a "Horse", their means of transportation (which is not always a literal horse).
- Lilith is Conquest. Her Horse is named Love, and her Hand was Cain, but he was murdered.
- Helsa von Eldritch is Famine. Her Horse is a nameless but sentient limousine, and her Hand is Arackniss.
- Azrael is Death, but goes by many other names in different cultures such as Anubis and Baron Samedi. His Horse is named Zad, and his Hand is Alastor.
- The identity of War is kept a complete mystery throughout most of the fic, although their Horse is revealed to be named Malhama. In the final chapter, War is revealed to have been killed in battle, but Azrael convinces Cherri Bomb to take up the mantle of War. War's prior Hand was Baxter.
- The X of Y: The titles of "In the Days of Famine..." and "Valley of the Shadow of Death".
