CWMH
is a Monster High fanfic written as a to parody dark and gritty adaptations such as Riverdale. It was written by gaybugfromspace
, also known as “The Bug”.
The story focuses primarily on Frankie and her first year at Monster High, against the backdrop of growing tensions between the monsters and humans of New Salem. Along the way, she forms bonds with other Monster High students, who each have secrets and struggles of their own. Though Frankie believes nothing could go wrong, not everything - or everyone - there is what they seem. Indeed, Frankie herself has her own secrets to hide.
As of now, the series is divided into two books/seasons. The first season, Resurrection
, was completed in 2022, and is currently undergoing rewrites. The second season, Eugoreia
began not long after the first season was completed, and is currently in progress. An audiobook adaptation of the fic is currently also in the works.
This series contains examples of:

- Catrine states that she’s “experimenting with everything right now”.
- Like the above, while the majority of the main G1 cast was straight, this series contains far more queer characters.
- Ascended Extra: Catrine DeMew, Johnny Spirit, and Wydowna Spider all got very little screen time in the original series, with them essentially being mere background characters. Here, Catrine and Wydowna have more substantial supporting roles, while Johnny is set up as a major villain.
- As You Know: The first chapter of Eugoreia has Spectra recounting the events of the first season, Resurrection.
- Camp Gay: Thad, who describes himself as “gayer than all the raves in hell”. He even Lampshades this in his entry in the Character Index, with the section on his sexuality asking the reader to "take one look at [him] and GUESS".
- Cannot Keep a Secret: When and Clawd and Deuce promise that they won't tell anyone about Jackson having a ghoulfriend, what's the first thing that Deuce does? Immediately tell Heath about the very thing he just just promised Jackson he wouldn't tell.
- Canon Foreigner: Dr. Bennuman Scarabba, Cleo’s scarapist, does not appear in the original series, and is original to this incarnation.

- Draculaura has ADHD and OCD.
- Cleo has PTSD, narcisistic personality disorder (NPD), and borderline personality disorder (BPD).
- Lagoona has an anxiety disorder, while Wydowna has social anxiety.
- Ghoulia and Twyla are autistic
- Jackson is autistic and OCD, as is Holt, who also has BPD and is deaf in one ear.
- Operetta has BPD and PTSD.
- Deuce and Howleen both have ADHD.
- Catty Noir has bipolar depression.
- Facial Horror: The real reason Operetta wears her mask is to cover the side of her face that was accidentally burned by Holt, giving it the appearance of being "permanently frozen mid-melting", as the fic puts it.
- Hated by All: Gil's bigoted views render him this to every established character save for Lagoona.
- Hate Sink: In his one short appearance, Gil insults Cleo and makes transphobic remarks directed at Ghoulia, who is non-dienary. His unlikeability is further reinforced by the other characters' reaction upon his arrival, with everyone save for Lagoona acting disgusted by him. Furthermore, Ghoulia refers to him as a "jerk" in their entry in the Character Index.
- Halloween Episode: “People Care For Nothing (No Respect For Human Rights)” and “Evil Times Are Coming (We Are In For Dangerous Nights)”, the chapters during which the climax of Resurrection takes place, are set during Halloween.
- Huge Girl, Tiny Guy: Frankie's height varies every time her grandfather modifies her - at her tallest, she's 6'5". By contrast, Jackson is 5'5", while Holt is 5'0".
- Huge Schoolgirl:
- Abbey is 17 years old and stands at 8'9" tall.
- Frankie is also school-age and can be as tall as 6'5", depending on the modifications her grandfather makes to her.
- It's All About Me: When school is closed for a week because a human was murdered in New Salem, Cleo assumes the closure is because Deuce cheated on her with Clawd, and is shocked to learn that’s not the case. Even when Lagoona does tell her the real reason why school was closed, Cleo still thinks the breakup is the more tragic of the two events.
- Mistaken Ethnicity: Occurs between Operetta and Jackson when she refers to him as "white boy".Operetta: Run, white boy, run!Jackson: (confused) I'm Korean?!
- Nightmare Face: Moanica is described as having rotting flesh, bulging eyes, a jaw that consistently looks like it's about to fall off of its hinges, and clusters of holes in her face that regularly have bugs crawling through them.
- Shout-Out:
- Given that the series was originally concieved as a parody of Riverdale, is it really any surprise that the author would have Jackson recreate the infamous "I'm weird" monologue?
- When Frankie finds out that Clawdeen has a crush on Draculaura, Frankie asks Clawdeen is she's "in lesbians" with her.
- In a more direct reference, when Lagoona "scares" Wydowna during Truth or Scare to yell out the name of her most embarassing fictional crush to the street, Wydowna yells "RAMONA FLOWERS".
- The titles of Chapters 15 and 16note of Resurrection, “People Care For Nothing (No Respect For Human Rights)” and “Evil Times Are Coming (We Are In For Dangerous Nights)”, are lyrics from "On and On and On" by ABBA.
- Skewed Priorities: When Invisi Billy is brought in by Scarah and Lagoona after he was badly beaten by a group of humans, Cleo and Operetta are more concerned with arguing about which one of them has more authority to deal with the humans than they are with getting Invisi Billy any medical attention.
