Breachhead

Go To

Breachhead is a crossover fanfiction between Worm and Lancer.

Taylor knows so much, has blueprints and visions for tech that could one day rival Dragon, or perhaps even Sphere.

But she lacks that crucial tinker power, to make the impossible functional.

It's going to a hard road to bootstrap, with the gangs of Brockton and the bureaucracy of the PRT against her.

Breachhead contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Instead of being able to control bugs, Taylor has a Striker/Mover power that lets her "flip" either herself or an object she touches relative to the other's position. She also knows the schematics and programming for HORUS mechs and other Lancer technology, but this is implied not to be a typical Tinker power as she lacks the Required Secondary Powers of most Tinkers needed to actually build any of it.
  • Death by Adaptation: Amy Dallon is killed in Bakuda's bombing spree.
  • Dies Differently in the Adaptation: Browbeat dies in Bakuda's bombing spree, though his death is only mentioned in passing.
  • Grey Goo: Since Taylor can't actually make most of her tinkertech herself, she uses the programming knowledge her power gives her to make a virus that is somehow able to break down other people's Tinkertech into a grey fluid that she can then turn into her own tech.
  • Mecha: Taylor uses her Grey Goo to break down one of Uber and Leet's mechs and convert it into a HORUS Kobold frame, which she calls Crucible.
  • Mundane Utility: Taylor uses the programming knowledge granted by her power to make an early warning system for when one of her bullies is approaching, and later uses her mech's Slag Cannon to reinforce walls in an abandoned building for use as a secret base.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Uber and Leet drop a few misogynistic slurs during their fight with Taylor.
  • Tracking Device: A rather mundane variation: Taylor tracks down Uber and Leet's lair by dropping her phone into a corner of Leet's mech and using a website designed to locate misplaced smart devices.
