Blood Sisters by RLD Flame-point Callie-co is a crossover series between The Twilight Saga and Lost Girl. When James’s attack on Bella Swan reveals that she isn’t as human as she believed, Bella and the Cullens find themselves exploring a new part of the world as they attempt to learn more about Bella’s family history. At the same time, a final confession from Aife leads to Bo learning that she has a sister named Isabella. When Edward contacts Bo for help based on her own experience of being a fae raised in the human world, the two swiftly realise that Bella is Bo's sister, prompting the succubus to travel to Forks to learn more about this newest addition to her family.

The author has confirmed that this will be a three-part series; Blood Sisters, Blood Feud, and Blood of the Ancients. As of 16 March 2025, Blood Sisters is complete; Blood Feud began on 1 April 2025.

Blood Sisters (the first fic) contains examples of:

    open/close all folders

    A to L
  • Accidental Misnaming: When Bella finds Bo having a threesome with a blonde and a redhead, Bo is unsure which of them is Ashley and which is Celeste, but neither woman seems that bothered about the mistake.
  • Adaptation Species Change:
    • Bella Swan is a succubus rather than a human.
    • It's explained that the females in the Quillette pack are shifters as well as the males, but they tend to transform into other animals forms such as deer or chipmunks; Leah Clearwater remains the only female wolf.
  • Adoption Angst: Bella has a serious identity crisis when she returns to Forks after learning about her true origins, feeling as though everything about herself is a lie apart from her first name (the person who gave her to Charlie and Renee specified that her name was Isabella). Charlie experiences a minor version of this when he learns that Bella has met her biological sister, although he's privately relieved that this means Bella hasn't met a biological relative who'll "replace" anyone in her existing family as Bella has never had siblings before.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Carlisle helps Edward get over his religious concerns about pre-marital sex by pointing out that, if God exists, He must have created the fae as well, and no truly loving God would condemn a creature to Hell simply because of their appetites.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: When Bella talks with Edward about how he still sees her as someone to protect even now that he knows she's fae, Edward has no response when Bella counters his observation that succubi aren't as strong as vampires by pointing out that Dyson is stronger than Bo but he clearly treats her as an equal.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Fae criminal Hunter is ultimately arrested for "kidnapping, human trafficking, grand larceny, and generally being a walking sack of crap" (Bo observes that she's not sure the last is actually a crime, but she feels it should be, particularly in these kind of cases).
  • Artistic Licence – Biology: With no knowledge of what she "needs" to feed on, Bella's condition starts to deteriorate, with her bones becoming frail and brittle since she isn't taking in chi energy. Carlisle is able to slow this with vitamin shots for a time, but notes that it's important they learn what species Bo is so that she can instruct Bella on how to feed.
  • Asshole Victim: Discussing how Bo and Dyson met when he was investigating one of her victims, Kenzi makes it clear that said "victim" had roofied her drink and was clearly about to do something unpleasant to her if Bo hadn't stepped in.
  • Auto Erotica: When Rosalie and Emmett volunteer to work on Bo's car, she swiftly guesses that they're also going to have sex in the vehicle, Alice noting that such work tends to be one of their regular turn-ons (although she also notes that it doesn't take much in the case of that particular couple).
  • Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: It’s mentioned that one of Vincent van Gogh’s friends was a leanan sidhe, accounting for his artistic talent and his mental decline.
  • Broken Bird: As in canon, Leah is left depressed and bitter at how things worked out in her life, to the extent that she's the only single female in the pack, although Kenzi and Dyson make an effort to be friendly with her when they attend Jacob's coming of age ritual..
  • Canon Welding: The Cullens and the Quillettes are aware of the wider fae community, but are considered pariahs among the fae as they make an active effort to live among humans. It’s also noted that wolf-shifters such as Dyson are basically intended to be the same species as the Quillettes, with a few edits to both to make them a suitable blend, such as Dyson being capable of imprinting.
  • Charm Person: It's suggested that the reason so many people were interested in Bella when she arrived in Forks were because her succubus pheromones were kicking in, Bo noting that she suddenly attracted attention from her fellow students at Bella's age as well. Bo soon starts training Bella in how to do this on purpose.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome:
    • Bo is slightly disappointed that Bella is less interested in actively helping people as she doesn't feel that heroic, but recognises that Bella has the right to want a quieter, safer life and she ended up dropping into her own role basically by chance. Ultimately Bella demonstrates that this trait is essentially genetic when she steps in to help protect a stranger from attacking fae and then volunteers Bo to help the would-be victim find her missing sister.
    • Suggested for Jacob; when he talks with Kenzi and confirms that she doesn't seem to be being mistreated by Bo, he's glad that he doesn't have to risk defying his father by trying to stage some kind of "rescue".
  • Commonality Connection: Edward and Dyson ultimately end up bonding when Dyson is able to assure Edward that his concerns about hurting Bella during sex are irrelevant when he can vouch for the fact that sex helps Bo feel better after she's been injured in the past.
  • Contrived Coincidence: When Edward first calls Bo to explain Bella’s situation, Bo immediately wonders if this is a trap, considering that she just learnt that she even has a sister and is now being told of an unknown fae with the same name as the sister in question, but agrees to a DNA test to make sure.
  • Cool Big Sis: Bo swiftly becomes this for Bella, teaching her various subtle tricks from how to feed as a fae to helping Bella gain the confidence for a more conventional makeover, including a new wardrobe.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Edward becomes uncomfortable seeing Bella experiment with her succubus abilities, even as he understands it's a good idea to learn what she can do so she doesn't do something by accident, becoming concerned that Bella will move beyond him if she keeps changing, although he ultimately moves past this concern.
  • Crossover Relatives: The premise of this series is that Bella Swan and Bo Dennis are sisters, with Bella being the younger of the two by around a decade.
  • Deconstruction: After Jacob imprints on Kenzi, Kenzi affirms that she's willing to at least get to know Jacob after he explains the situation to her, but there isn't going to be a serious relationship upgrade in their immediate future as she doesn't like the idea of forming a relationship under these circumstances.
  • Declaration of Protection: Learning that Victoria wants to kill Bella prompts Dyson to affirm to Edward that he will help the vampire protect her, both for the obvious reason that his mate would be devastated to lose her sister and because he likes Bella and Edward in their own right.
  • Destructive Romance: Ultimately Bella comes to realise that she and Edward had a form of this, as Edward keeps fixating on the idea that he has to "protect" Bella and Bella kept letting him do so rather than standing up for herself. This leads to Bella deciding that she and Edward need to take a break and spend some time apart to get a better sense of who they are outside of their relationship, Bella in particular noting that she needs to "get back the parts of [herself that she] used to like". The two come back together a few chapters later, Bella satisfied that Edward is willing to recognise her independence now.
  • Differing Priorities Breakup: Bella suggests that she and Edward do a temporary version of this as she comes to recognise that she's become too dependent on Edward to the extent that it compromises her previous independence, also noting that Edward needs to accept that she's not a fragile human who needs protection any more, although they get back together once Bella's confirmed she doesn't want anyone but Edward and Edward acknowledges and accepts how Bella is changing as she explores her succubus side in greater depth.
  • Dirty Cop: Investigating fae activity in Seattle, Bo and Dyson each admit that fae cops can sometimes focus on just keeping their activities secret from humans even if it means letting criminals walk, whereas Dyson and Hale at least try to protect humans as well as keeping the secret.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Invoked with the revelation that the Morrigan is planning to take action to try and bring Bo "under control" when Bo has nothing to indicate she intends to threaten Evony's power as the Morrigan directly, just because Evony feels threatened at the idea of Bo being outside the rule of law.
  • Double Meaning: When Jacob and Kenzi run into each other in town, Kenzi notes that Jacob's questions at least strongly suggest that he knows Bo is fae and that Kenzi is "legally" her property by fae standards, but he says nothing that she can't also interpret as him being concerned that Bo is a controlling friend.
  • Emotion Eater: As in canon, most fae are this, leaving Bella disturbed when she doesn’t know what kind she is as she refuses to accept an appetite where she might have to (for example) drive a man suicidally insane just to sustain herself.
  • Ethical Slut: Brought up when Bo mentions that she doesn't get involved with partners who are already happily married (she's willing to do threesomes, although given past precedent with the Fury she appreciates that can be risky).
  • Even the Girls Want Her: When Bo finally meets Bella's schoolfriends directly, Bella notes that even Angela and Jessica are in awe of Bo's beauty, although they are at least able to talk where Mike, Eric and Tyler were stunned silent.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • The entire Cullen family leave their house when Bo has an orgy with a group of people she met in a local bar (although Bo notes that the Cullens were the reason she was so horny in the first place, as it was "date night" for the three couples in the Cullen family).
    • While Dyson and Bo note that some fae cops tend to ignore humans in danger in the name of keeping the fae secret, Hunter and his associates are soon arrested when Dyson convinces Hunter's girlfriend to help him find evidence that Hunter stole from her and is preparing to sell off innocent human girls to be sacrificed. Hunter protests that his targets were mostly just runaways and street kids he assumed nobody would miss, but the fae cops affirm that selling people to a known criminal is just too far.
  • Evil Is Petty: Granted she probably didn't need an excuse, but Victoria killed a beat cop just for trying to make her move after she had spent the night sitting in James's ashes.
  • Exact Words:
    • Invoked when one of Dyson's interrogators tries to use his claim that he would be willing to lie for Bo as proof that he's done so, but his interrogator quickly points out that Dyson just said he'd be willing to lie for Bo but he hasn't actually done so yet.
    • After Bo and Bella's weekend to Seattle sees the sisters and Dyson stop a fae criminal abducting women to be sacrificed in a ritual, Bella tells Charlie that they just spent time shopping and visiting some of Dyson's friends, none of which is a lie but just omits their bigger activities.
  • Famed in Story: The Cullens are all impressed when Dyson affirms that he was a member of the Faelad Laignach centuries ago.
  • Fantastic Racism: As well as the fae’s canon dismissive attitude towards humans, it’s noted that vampires like the Cullens are generally ignored by the wider fae community as they were originally human rather than being natural fae from birth. When the Cullens first learn what species Bella is, Esme's immediate reaction is surprise, but swiftly reminds herself that simply because succubi have a reputation for being "fickle, hedonistic and promiscuous" doesn't mean they can't be perfectly nice people and she shouldn't judge Bo and Bella because of their species. Bella ultimately calls Jacob out on this attitude when telling him that she knows he's a wolf-shifter, making it clear that regardless of his talk of the Cullens' type of vampire as "walking dead things" Bella loves Edward and that isn't going to change.
  • The Fashionista: Alice is this as always, immediately offering Bella advice on what to wear for her first meeting with Bo. This leads to her and Kenzi quickly bonding over their shared interests in clothes even if they have different styles. Alice later helps Bo and Kenzi find different outfits for dinner with Charlie as their usual style would make an awkward first impression at best, and Bo takes Bella on a shopping trip in Seattle to help her develop a new look exploring her identity as a succubus.
  • Funbag Airbag: A minor version; when Bella collapses from weakness, she basically ends up face-first in Kenzi's cleavage until Bo can give her sister a boost.
  • Gene Hunting: Once the Cullens learn that Bella is fae, they work to help her learn more about her birth family, driven by the practical concern that they need to know what her abilities are in case she manifests something dangerous and what she needs to eat to sustain herself.
  • Godzilla Threshold: James's initial appearance was such a shock that Edward briefly thought about officially claiming Bella to protect her from the other vampire, even when he and his family dislike the notion of claiming humans, but dismissed that idea as Alice could see James wouldn't respect the claim anyway.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Invoked in-narrative; while Dyson and the Quillettes are basically meant to be the same species, it's noted that Dyson is more self-controlled than the Quillettes with their hostility towards the Cullens. Dyson observes that when shifters are in their teens and still mastering their other side it doesn't take much to set them off.
  • Has a Type: Kenzi observes that Bo has a thing for "hot cops" after Bo comments that she thinks Charlie is attractive (even if she respects Bella's request not to go after her father). She also suggests that Bo likes "blonde doctors" and wonders if Carlisle should watch out, but Bo affirms that while she can see that Carlisle is attractive she won't get involved with partners who are already married.
  • Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?: Kenzi immediately rejects the idea of being used as part of Bo's efforts to train Bella in how to use her powers
  • Healing Factor: Bo gives Bella a quick boost of chi in their first meeting, but it's only when Bella first "feeds" on Edward that she confirms her own ability to heal, with her broken leg experiencing weeks of healing in seconds.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: Preparing for Bella's first trip to a fae club, Bo helps her acquire a new wardrobe that includes various items of leather clothing.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Jokingly referenced when Bella thanks Bo for joining her in letting Alice help them both prepare for Prom.
  • Hidden Depths: Edward claims that he just watches shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer to stay up-to-date with human perception of vampires, but Kenzi argues that if he's bothered to remember actual dialogue he's more of a fan than he's prepared to admit. He later admits to Bella that he's slightly regretted always being on the outside of social events such as school proms given how he never had anyone he wanted to attend such things with, helping Bella see that he doesn't see such things as beneath him.
  • Hypocritical Humor: A minor example occurs when Bo is uncomfortable at the notion of Rosalie and Emmett having sex in her car when she's obviously done that herself, Bo's only justification being "I can do [that] because it's my car!"
  • I Just Want to Be Special: While Bella was eager and willing to become a vampire, she’s still thrown to learn that she’s actually already fae, particularly since this means her family have been lying to her for years.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Invoked when Bella notes that she doesn't want Bo to think she's a "spineless conformist" if she doesn't have the courage to follow Bo's example and pick neither side, as Edward affirms that he's sure Bo would only want her sister to make the choice that's best for her.
  • Ignorant of Their Own Ignorance:
    • Dyson isn't aware of succubi breeding issues so Bo having a sister is just a surprise rather than the shock it was for others. The Cullens were also unaware of this problem before Bo explained the details to them, Esme noting that she assumed succubi not having children was a matter of choice rather than biology.
    • Likewise, Trick was unaware of the finer details of the imprinting process, as he assumed it would make Dyson fanatically loyal to Bo regardless of her wider agenda and he was still concerned she might be allied with Aife. Dyson clarifies that others are generally only aware of the most extreme cases of imprint-related problems, and if he truly objected to Bo's actions he would have been capable of acting against her.
    • When Jacob talks with Kenzi and observes her talking about Bo as though Bo is her friend when he always assumed other fae were more controlling of their human "pets", he wonders if he has the wrong view of fae-human dynamics outside of Forks or if Bo and Kenzi are just unconventional.
    • When Bo, Dyson and Bella stay with some of Dyson's friends in Seattle while investigating a case, it's noted that Dyson's friends haven't heard of the "unaligned succubus", so assume Bo is Light like Dyson (Bella's too young to have officially chosen a side yet), which the three go with to keep things simple.
  • Immortal Procreation Clause: Trick explains that succubi are one of the few fae species that are potentially immortal (most only manage a millennium or so), since their chi-eating can sustain them easily and they don’t generally live violent lives. However, to contrast this potential immortality succubi have a low birth rate; Trick had been aware of Bella’s birth but assumed she died as an infant like most second-born succubi, and it is apparently so complex for succbi to have children that Bo never had a pregnancy scare even when she didn't know what she was and sometimes wasn't particularly careful while on the run.
  • Imprinting: It is affirmed that the process of imprinting isn't as "complete" as it is in the original novels, Dyson explaining that it is possible for a wolf to go against an imprint; most of the extreme cases reported happened with weak-willed wolves or those who had obsessive tendencies even before they met their mates. Dyson imprinted on Bo fairly swiftly but his awareness of it was suppressed by Trick due to Trick's concerns that the process would turn Dyson against him if Bo was allied with her mother, and Jacob imprints on Kenzi when he first shifts.
  • Improperly Paranoid: Jacob has a minor version of this when he's immediately concerned about how Kenzi almost certainly "belongs" to Bo and there's nothing he can do to help her, unaware that Bo only claimed Kenzi to protect her and doesn't see her as any kind of property.
  • Innocently Insensitive: As Bo gets caught up in the plan to meet with Bella, Kenzi is struck by the distinction between her considering Bo a sister and Bo’s discovery of her biological sister, leaving Kenzi concerned that she’ll be pushed aside in favour of Bella now that Bo has a biological relative.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Trick reveals that he is Aife's father (and hence Bo and Bella's grandfather) in Chapter 6 shortly after Bo's confrontation with Aife, when in canon he only revealed his true relationship with her about a year later.
    • After Dyson learns that Bo is his imprint in Chapter 5, Bo only learns that fact in Chapter 17.
    • While the Cullens have known of the Quillettes' wolf nature from the beginning, and Dyson learns that a pack of shifters live in the area when he arrives, Bo and Bella only learn that Jacob is a wolf-shifter (albeit one who hasn't shifted yet) in Chapter 27.
  • Interspecies Romance: After Jacob imprints on Kenzi, he explains that while only the men in the Quillette tribe are wolves (with the exception of Leah), the women are all different kinds of shifter; Jacob's mother was a lynx, Jared's mate turns into a chipmunk, and most of the other women are deer.
  • Intimate Healing: Bo and Bella are capable of this, but at first Bo is the only one who knows how they feed; at one point she has to give Bella a boost of energy through a fae form of mouth-to-mouth and then have a quick session with a waitress to give herself a pick-me-up. Bella is very awkward when asking Bo if there are any special measures she and Edward need to take when feeding, but Bo assures her that it will all come naturally when they get started.
  • Jerkass Realisation: Suggested when Dyson notes that meeting Bo is the main reason he started to realise that protecting humans from other fae could be a laudable goal in its own right, as opposed to keeping the secret and just not passing on any crimes involving humans (some fae in Dyson's position would have focused on their role to keep the secret and passed on any purely human crimes to human detectives).
  • Like Brother and Sister: Kenzi privately acknowledges that she thinks of Bo as a sister, but is struck by the implications of Bo’s discovery that she has an actual sister.
  • Long-Lost Relative: After the two learn that the other exists in Chapters 5 and 6, Bo and Bella's first meeting takes place in Chapter 9, as the two sisters first come face-to-face.
  • Love Confession: When Dyson comes to Forks, he swiftly tells Bo that she is his imprint, which basically amounts to this even if he makes it clear he doesn't expect anything more from her than she's willing to give.

    M to Z
  • The Makeover: Bo recalls how she ultimately gave one to herself after running away from her adoptive parents to give herself more confidence, and encourages Bella to put more effort into her appearance as it will help her feel more confident in her new identity as a succubus.
  • Manchild: Emmett comes across as this as always, with his immediate reaction to meeting Bo to ask her various questions about her initial trial by combat.
  • Mayfly–December Friendship: Basically applies when Bella realises that she'll have to marry Edward in a certain time frame if she wants Charlie and Renee to see it, as even if they're not her biological parents she wants them to be present for the wedding rather than put it off for a couple of centuries.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • The bouncer at a fae club is called Rocky and has the ability to turn his skin into a rock-like substance.
    • Jokingly brought up by Bella when she learns that a snake-like fae she fought was named Blake (she mockingly calls him "Blake the Snake").
  • Metaphorically True: When Charlie sees Bella after her first "feeding" and realises she's looking better, Bella claims that Carlisle worked out what was wrong and gave her "new medicine"; this is basically accurate in that the Cullens helped Bella determine what was wrong and how to fix it, but it took Bo to confirm what was needed.
  • Mistaken Ethnicity: The confusion between vampires and succubi is explained as basically a fantastical version of this. Edward attributes the confusion to the Denali sisters getting very into seduction for some time while they still fed on humans, causing people to assume they were succubi rather than vampires.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Bo observes that Bella is very similar to what Bo was like before her powers activated, to the extent that Forks reminds Bo of the town where she grew up. Talking with Kenzi prompts Bo to reflect that she's looking forward to helping her sister get the answers that she only found after several years, particularly since she can help Bella avoid some of her own mistakes while learning about her own abilities. On a more personal level, Bo is actually touched when Bella volunteers her and Dyson as chaperones for the prom, as Bo never got to attend her own prom because she killed Kyle and went on the run before it could happen (obviously Dyson grew up before such a concept existed and isn't that bothered about it, but he recognises that this is important to Bo and "asks" her to go with him).
  • No-Sell:
    • Unlike in canon, the Norn cannot take Dyson’s love for Bo as she is his imprint, which is the kind of bond even the Norn cannot break.
    • Bella's immunity to Edward's mind-reading appears to be genetic, as Bo is also immune to Edward's ability.
    • When Bo starts training Bella in using her succubus abilities, Bella is unable to "seduce" Edward with her powers, which they speculate is because he's already in love with Bella so he doesn't notice any compulsion.
    • Where Alice couldn't see the future of anything that wasn't a vampire or a human in canon, here she can apparently see the future of most fae breeds, but shifters represent an anomaly. She speculates that this is because part of their nature is an animal, meaning that shifters can change so significantly that it's harder for Alice to predict what they'll do.
    • When the Morrigan sends Tamsin to capture Bella, Tamsin's abilities cannot inspire any kind of doubt in Bo or Bella, which Tamsin observes is a rare quality (although she ultimately decides to just knock the succubi out the old-fashioned way).
  • Noodle Incident:
    • When talking with Kenzi about Bella, Bo mentions how she basically avoided sex after Kyle's death until she was hitch-hiking and a truck driver tried to molest her while she was nearly unconscious, triggering her feeding instinct and helping her confirm what she needed to do to sustain herself.
    • Kenzi mentions that she once had a "brief venture into the culinary arts", which was actually her posing as a gourmet chef to rob the attendees at high society events.
  • The Nose Knows: Dyson confirms that Jacob is a wolf-shifter when he smells a shifter in a particular car seat after Jacob accompanied Bo, Bella, Kenzi and a few of Bella's schoolfriends to a movie.
  • Oblivious Adoption: Bella was never aware that she was adopted until Edward tells her that she’s fae and therefore Charlie and Renee can’t be her biological parents.
  • Oh, Crap!: When Edward and Bella witness Victoria at the prom, Bella immediately panics at the sight, prompting Edward and Dyson to leave to try and chase Victoria down while Bo keeps an eye on her sister.
  • Orphan's Ordeal: Bella is completely shocked to learn that she's fae and therefore only adopted by the Swans rather than being their biological daughter, spending the next few chapters tormented by her fear of what she might be in terms of her diet.
  • Parental Sexuality Squick: Brought up when Bella is disturbed at the suggestion that Bo and Kenzi think that Charlie is attractive.
  • Picky People Eater: Invoked when Bella tells Bo that she doesn't want to feed on humans during her break from Edward, as while she knows that it's possible to feed from humans without killing them she doesn't have enough confidence in her self-control to be sure she could do that yet. Bo understands and approves of her sister's concerns, suggesting they visit a fae bar in Seattle to give Bella a chance to feed on other fae so that she can "top herself up" without putting others at risk.
  • Refuge in Audacity: After Bella's healed her injured leg, she basically decides to rely on this to avoid Charlie asking awkward questions, reasoning that he's happy not looking too closely at strange things and he'll just appreciate that she's better (although she also plans to introduce him to Bo to give him something else to think about).
  • Riddle for the Ages: While Edward cannot answer Kenzi's questions about how his type of vampire (humans transformed into fae) exist, he observes that one theory is a fae sorcerer created the original venom as a particularly torturous poison.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons:
    • When Lauren rejects Bo’s offer to run away with her, Bo correctly realises that there is something Lauren is more loyal to than any relationship with her, but assumes it’s her loyalty to the Ash rather than Lauren’s determination to find a way to save Nadia.
    • Seeing Bella's continued injury causes Bo to wonder if this is an example of the birth defect second-born succubi can suffer from, but is assured when she learns that it's just because Bella didn't know what she was so didn't know what she could do to heal.
    • When Edward smells Lysol on Bella's new clothes, he wonders why she felt the need to disinfect a new outfit, but immediately understands when Bella explains that the smell is actually because Bo was cleaning her car after Emmett and Rosalie were working on it (and subsequently had sex in it).
  • Rules Lawyer:
    • This is exploited to stop Dyson requesting sanctuary when he's called as a witness to Bo's recent activities, as he can't claim sanctuary if he isn't actually accused of a crime but there's equally nothing to stop the Ash's forces keeping him locked in a cell for a long time until they get around to him...
    • While the treaty between the Cullens and the Quillettes stops them turning other humans, that doesn't affect pre-existing claims of other fae who have come to Forks, so Billy Black affirms to Jacob that they can't do anything about Bo's claim on Kenzi.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here!:
    • Trick ultimately tells Bo that she should take advantage of her discovery of Bella to get out of the city for a while, so that she won’t have to deal with potential accusations that she was involved in Aife’s attack.
    • When Bella steps in to protect a young woman from two attacking fae, all it takes is for her to feed on one of the fae enough to knock him out for the other to decide sticking around isn't a good idea.
  • Sequel Hook: Blood Sisters ends with Tamsin abducting Bella and taking her to Seattle for a "talk" with the Morrigan, after Victoria tipped off the fae in question about Bella's existence.
  • Ship Sinking:
    • Bo’s talk with Lauren while getting Bella’s DNA tested confirms that Bo and Lauren’s relationship will never go further. Lauren is too tied to her service to the Ash to properly move on with Bo, and Bo feels that Lauren’s inability to accept her own motives and willingness to risk her life to make a statement proves that they wouldn’t be a good fit.
    • When Mike tries to talk to Bella about his own feelings for her, Bella encourages him to focus on his history with Jess instead, reaffirming to Mike that he's only interested in her right now because she's "new" and he has a more established history with Jessica that he shouldn't overlook.
    • Chapter 29 features Bella making it clear to Jacob that she chooses Edward and doesn't have those kind of feelings for Jacob, with the possibility of a relationship between Bella and Jacob being further destroyed when Jacob imprints on Kenzi during his first shift.
  • Shipper on Deck:
    • After Dyson arrives in Forks, once Bo explains their history to Bella, Rosalie and Alice Bella is fully supportive of her sister's new boyfriend.
    • Bella basically attempts this at one point, encouraging Jessica to not give up on a relationship with Mike despite his interest in Bella as her succubus abilities allow Bella to sense that Mike and Jessica have genuine feelings for each other where his interest in Bella is more of a general interest in the "dream". Bella goes so far as to "encourage" Mike and Jess to focus on each other while she and Bo subtly use their abilities to enhance the couple's desire for each other when they're attending a film as a group.
    • While Charlie is awkward about showing it, during Edward and Bella's break he talks with Edward and affirms that he thinks Edward is good for Bella, advising the vampire to try and deal with the issues that Bella drew his attention to.
    • Somewhat deconstructed when Jacob imprints on Kenzi; while the pack obviously want Jacob to be with his imprint, Dyson only affirms that Jacob's wolf must recognise that Kenzi is a good fit for him without openly encouraging her to date him, simply suggesting she spend more time with Jacob to explore the possibility.
  • Shipper with an Agenda: A quick check of Jacob's thoughts is enough to confirm to Edward that Jacob is spending time with Bella before his first shift because he's hoping that he'll imprint on Bella when his wolf side kicks in.
  • Shout-Out:
    • When Bella first learns that she's fae, she wonders if she's the equivalent of a muggle-born witch from Harry Potter- a magical child born to non-magical parents- but Edward affirms that fae are only born to fae.
    • When Dyson offers to teach Bella how to box as part of her combat training, Bella agrees but notes that he shouldn't expect her to be like Hilary Swank in Million Dollar Baby.
    • Kenzi at one point compares Forks to "Stepford meets Pleasantville".
    • Kenzi describes her role in Bo's life as being to ensure that Bo "doesn't go all Dumbledore with trying to see the good in everybody" and leaving herself open to future betrayals.
    • Edward reveals that he has watched shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer (he claims it's just to keep up-to-date with what modern humans expect vampires to be like), and when Bo first takes Bella to a fae club she asks if Bella was expecting something like the vampire clubs of the Blade Trilogy.
  • Sidetracked by the Analogy: When Bo tells Lauren that she has a sister, she assures the doctor that she knows that the odds of succubi having siblings are like unicorns, which prompts Lauren to go off on a tangent about how unicorns actually have a rather good birth rate before she gets her attention back to the matter of Bo's sister.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: Bo helps Bella buy new clothes to explore her new identity as a succubus and help her feel more confident in herself, although Bella buys a few more conservative outfits for school to avoid attracting too much unwanted attention.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Even as Bella learns that she can feed on others for chi energy, she's only shown a serious sexual interest in Edward, only feeding on other fae as much as is needed to sustain herself or using her abilities to fight off attackers even during their temporary break-up.
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: When Dyson arrives in Forks and visits the Cullens, Bo's immediate response is to punch him in the face for staying away for so long when she could have used his emotional support after everything that happened, but they soon get back to more intimate activities.
  • Sticky Fingers: Kenzi is so used to stealing things to sustain herself that Edward observes that she's automatically thinking about how much she could sell the Cullens' things for if she managed to successfully steal something from their house. However, backed by assurance from Bo, Kenzi confirms that this is just an automatic response based on long-term habits and she doesn't actually plan to steal from the vampires who are helping Bo's sister.
  • Subtle Superpowering: When Bella has to fight someone in front of four human girls, she manoeuvres herself so that her opponent's back is to the others while she drains his chi and then headbutts her opponent once he goes limp so it looks like she overpowered him in a more conventional manner.
  • Succubus in Love: Bo and Bella are each clearly defined as this, Bella uncomfortable at the idea of having actual sex with anyone but Edward even during their break and Bo swiftly committing to a relationship with Dyson once he confirms she is his imprint.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Basically Charlie's attitude when he first meets Dyson, who arrived with Bo and claims he gave her a lift while his lack of a shirt is because he was working out when Bo asked him for help. Charlie wonders what kind of man would exercise in jeans and no shirt, but decides not to question it as the two just sit in silence and share a morning coffee.
  • Swapped Roles: When Bella and Edward have their first intimate encounter after learning about Bella's species, she's struck by the fact that for once, she is the one telling Edward that he tastes good (albeit his chi rather than his blood).
  • Switched at Birth: Charlie and Renee’s actual child was stillborn, but shortly after the birth someone literally gave them another baby (Carlisle speculates this party was a fae who compelled the Swans to adopt Bella, which Edward basically confirms when Charlie can’t properly recall anything about the other party).
  • Take a Third Option:
    • The Cullens (who define themselves as Light Fae) are surprised to learn that Bo deliberately chose neither side, but accept her as Bella's sister and a guest nevertheless.
    • On a smaller scale, during Bella's break from Edward, Bo suggests that she and Bella go to a fae club in Seattle so Bella can feed on other fae rather than starve herself or put others at risk by feeding on humans.
    • When Bella learns that she can wait to pick a side until her eighteenth birthday, she suggests to Edward that she's at least considering following Bo's example and picking neither side, as while she's certain she won't choose the Dark she's not comfortable with the actions of the Light in dealing with Bo and potential injustices against humans based on what she's seen so far. Edward assures Bo that, if she takes that approach, she will have his support.
  • Tempting Fate: As soon as Bo assures Bella that nothing bad will happen to her, Tamsin shows up with a group of fae mercenaries to abduct Bella on behalf of the Morrigan after Victoria tipped off the Dark Fae about Bella's existence.
  • Terror at Make-Out Point: When Dyson comes to Forks, he and Bo basically role-play a version of this, with Dyson "chasing" Bo through the forest before they finally have sex.
  • That Came Out Wrong: When Bella mentions that she met a woman at a fae club, Bo initially assumes Bella's experimenting before Bella clarifies that this woman was being attacked by fae and is looking for her missing sister.
  • That Man Is Dead: Learning exactly what she is prompts Bella to reflect that in many ways, "regular old Bella" is gone, leaving her afraid that she doesn't know how to be her new self.
  • Their First Time: Bella and Edward officially have sex for the first time in Chapter 28 as they reunite, Bella calling off their "break".
  • This Is My Human:
    • Bella is concerned to learn that fae can basically "own" people, but is assured that Kenzi is just Bo's friend (as far as the two are concerned) and Edward never "claimed" Bella when he thought she was human.
    • The Cullens and the Quillettes are also shown to disapprove of this idea; Edward assures Bella that he only ever thought of claiming her (before they knew she was fae) when he thought it would help protect her from James, and Jacob is disturbed at the idea that Kenzi could be Bo's "property" and wishes he could "help" her (unaware that Bo and Kenzi consider themselves friends rather than master and 'slave').
    • When investigating a fae they know has abducted at least one human, Bella sees signs that this fae runs a smuggling operation and wonders if humans are basically exotic pets as far as this guy is concerned (although he's actually moving the girls to serve as human sacrifices).
    • When Jacob imprints on Kenzi, since she is technically Bo's property Bo has to accompany Kenzi on at least her first visit to the Quillettes to officially declare that she has no problem with "her" human potentially dating another fae.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Bella learning how to use her succubi powers is a clear example of this, as she wants to reach a level where she can be Edward's equal and feel like she has some power in her new life. Her regular 'diet' of vampire chi also gives her some physical enhancements, such as going power-walking to burn off excess energy. This leads to Bo teaching Bella how to fight so she can protect herself and use that strength more directly, reaching a point where Bella is able to feed on one hostile fae and drive off a second to protect a civilian.
  • Truth Serums: When Dyson is finally interrogated about Bo's role in Aife's attack, the interrogation is aided by a luduan, a fae that compels the truth and ensures that Dyson cannot lie (it is at least suggested that Dyson would be able to lie under its interrogation, but he never does so and the luduan asserts that he would be aware if Dyson was trying to deceive them anyway).
  • Turn the Other Cheek: Bo and Dyson are each initially angry at Trick for lying to them, but once he explains his reasons they each accept that his intentions were good. Bo acknowledges that Trick wanted to be sure of what she knew about Aife and just didn't know how to broach the topic once he was satisfied that Bo wasn't working with her mother, and Dyson appreciates Trick's explanation that he basically misunderstood the nature of the imprinting process (although both make it clear that they won't be happy if Trick lies to them "for their own good" again).
  • Unreliable Narrator: Suggested regarding Bella's description of Charlie from the books compared to his portrayal in the films; Word of God speculates that Bella obviously didn't think of how Charlie would come across to others as she just sees him as her father.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Basically Trick's reasons for preventing Dyson from being aware that Bo was his imprint, as he was worried that if Bo did turn out to be affiliated with Aife she would drag Dyson down with her. As Dyson observes, imprinting on Bo wouldn't actually have turned him against Trick like that if he really objected to what Bo was doing as the effect of an imprint on the wolf in question isn't so great that he wouldn't be able to resist if his partner did something he truly didn't agree with.
  • Wham Episode: Chapter 29 features Jacob's first shift and he subsequently imprints on Kenzi.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • After hearing Trick and Dyson claim that they lied to her to protect her, Bo ultimately calls Lauren out for also adopting this attitude, arguing that she has the the right to make her own decisions regardless of the risks.
    • Witnessing Jacob's coming of age where he doesn't have to fight two underfae, Bo is further put out that she had to deal with an archaic tradition just because it was an easy way to potentially get her out of the way.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Although Bella expressed doubt that she could be capable of Bo's Chronic Hero Syndrome, when she sees a young woman being harrased by two fae, Bella immediately steps in to drive them off, and subsequently volunteers herself and Bo to help this woman find her missing sister.
  • Why Can't I Hate You?: Rosalie reflects that she wondered if she'd resent Kenzi for similar reasons to her past issues with Bella, but soon finds that she gets along well with the human.
  • Wrench Wench: Rosalie and Emmett immediately volunteer to give Bo's car an overhaul when she first meets the Cullens, the two arguing that they'd enjoy the project, although Bo guesses that the two are also going to have sex in her car.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Basically applies to Bella's speculation about Jacob's attempt to drop hints as to his true nature, as she muses that if she was reading a novel where two childhood friends learn they're supernatural creatures while reuniting after years apart she might have expected them to get together just like Jacob is trying to encourage.
  • You Remind Me of X: One reason Bella attempts to help Marlena find Sarah is that Marlena's struggles to help support the two reminds Bella of her own troubls supporting Renee in the past, even if Renee was just flighty rather than actively resisting Bella's efforts to help.

Spoilers for Blood Sisters will be unmarked

    A to M
  • 11th-Hour Superpower: Faced with the prospect of a battle against Victoria that should be a Curb-Stomp Battle in Victoria's favour, Bella does the unprecedented and feeds on basically all the spectators of the gladiator match (save for her allies and family) and gains the power to twist Victoria's head around completely.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Carlisle is clearly enraged when he learns that one of the visiting Dark Fae, Alexis, feeds on human spinal fluid and explicitly states that she enjoys hunting children even though adults would provide her with more sustenance.
  • "Both Sides Have a Point" Remark: Jacob notes that some of his pack explicitly question why Bella and Bo can't just pick a side and end the controversy, but Jacob also observes that while he doesn't get the issue himself, he's never been treated like a criminal by the establishment the way the succubi sisters have, so even if he doesn't understand their actions he can acknowledge why they feel this way.
  • Bothering by the Book: The Morrigan essentially exploits this to "justify" keeping Bella captive; technically Bella should only be required to choose a side when she's eighteen, but since her powers have already activated other fae can be potentially concerned, particularly given the precedent set by Bo.
  • The Chessmaster: Victoria's power allows her to carefully manipulate others, making her aware of what action to take to ensure she avoids death while still seeking her revenge on Bella.
  • Closet Key: Leah is shocked with herself when she imprints on Tamsin when intending to confront the Dark Fae about her father's death (Leah at least considered a crush on a girl at school when she was thirteen but nothing came of it before said girl moved away, and affirms that she genuinely loved Sam).
  • Cooldown Hug: Bo does the succubus version of this after Bella absorbs so much chi from the surrounding fae that she falls victim to her Superpowered Evil Side after defeating Victoria, Bo draining off enough of Bella's now-excess chi to get her sister back to a more normal level.
  • Crazy-Prepared: When Bo's Clubhouse is found destroyed, the Cullens offer her and Kenzi at least temporary use of a property they purchased in Toronto for future possible visits to the city.
  • Creepy Child: Bo and Bella are visited by an apparition in the form of a child who warns them that something ancient and terrible is coming for them.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Basically why Alice missed seeing the destruction of Bo and Kenzi's Clubhouse; she was so focused on keeping her gift focused on a potential attack from Victoria that she didn't see such a relatively simple problem until it was too late to properly prepare Bo for the news.
  • Crusading Widow: Even after Bella almost killed Victoria and demonstrated a power even Trick hasn't seen before, the vampire is still determined to make Bella pay for her role in James's death.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: When Dyson challenges Sam to defend Bo and Bella's right to stay in Forks, the fight is over in moments in Dyson's favour, given his centuries of experience compared to how Sam hasn't even lived long enough to look older than he actually is.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Dyson reveals that his father was a pack leader, but after his father died in battle, Dyson's uncle took over as Dyson wasn't old enough to lead himself, which led to their pack coming into the service of a corrupt king as Dyson's uncle didn't want to deal with the pressure of leadership himself.
  • Declaration of Personal Independence:
    • Bella essentially tells Bo to do this when she learns that Bo could get her out of holding only if she chooses a side, assuring her older sister that she doesn't want to be freed if it means compromising Bo's independence.
    • After her trial by combat ended with Victoria's defeat, Bella informs Lachlan and the Morrigan that while she might have previously chosen the Light just to keep things simple, after the way both sides just watched her face a seemingly inevitable fight to the death with no remorse she's now committed to her own independence just like Bo.
  • The Dreaded: Invoked regarding Bella's display of power, as Jasper instinctively muses that it would have been terrible to face something like her during the old vampire wars even if he immediately apologises to Edward in his thoughts as he knows Bella wouldn't do that on her own accord.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Tamsin makes it clear that she doesn't approve of Alexis's habit of feeding on children just for the sake of a personal taste rather than a necessity.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good:
    • The best explanation for Evony's fixation on the idea that the unaligned succubi "must" be dealt with, as she seemingly can't accept the idea that Bo and Bella just want to live their own lives rather than trying to threaten anyone. She goes so far as to suggest that Bella "provoked" James into attacking her and then "seduced" the Cullens into defending her, when the real explanation is just that James was an evil bastard and the Cullens were defending a friend.
    • Also invoked when Tamsin contemplates how the succubi rejecting the demand to pick a side appears to have provoked various smaller conflicts, as while Tamsin will concede that the sisters aren't directly responsible for anything she can't accept their appeal that they just want to be left alone as she can't believe anyone would be that earnest without being motivated by some kind of angle.
  • Exact Words: When meeting Lachlan, Dyson notes that Bo didn't tell him what her plans were for that day; while he overheard her planning to visit Trick, she didn't tell Dyson directly that was her plan.
  • Family of Choice: After Dyson becomes the new Alpha for the Quillettes, when talking with Bo about why he broke away from his original pack, he states that she and Bella are his family now.
  • A God Am I: While "high" on the chi of her mass feeding, Bella asks Bo to join her in establishing their power over others.
  • Happy Dance: Jacob does the wolf equivalent of this after Kenzi hugs him in thanks for his support (prompting Leah to wonder what he'll do if Kenzi actually kisses him).
  • Ignorant of Their Own Ignorance: Victoria explicitly notes that pureblood fae smell no different from humans until they come into their powers, justifying why James believed Bella was only human when he tried to hunt her.
  • Imprinting: Leah is shocked when she imprints on Tamsin the moment she sees the Valkyrie (although Emily notes that at least Leah's imprint wasn't Alexis, the Dark Fae who caused the death of Leah's father).
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Regardless of Bo and Kenzi's involvement or lack thereof, Lachlan still became the new Ash while the original was left in a vegetative state.
    • Harry Clearwater still dies, albeit in a confrontation with a Dark Fae while saving a child rather than simply the result of a heart attack.
  • It's All My Fault: Bella blames herself for the consequences of the Dark Fae coming to Forks and the harm they've caused while feeding, even though her allies all agree that all Bella did was defend herself and it's not her fault that the Morrigan chose to react like this.
  • Klingon Promotion: When the Quillettes try to force Bo and Bella to leave Forks, Dyson challenges Sam to single combat to fight for Bo's right to stay as her mate, which leads to him becoming the new alpha after he proved himself worthy of leadership and superior to Sam's wolf.
  • Manipulative Bastard: When Lachlan first meets with Bo in his role as the new Ash, he "offers" to see about helping Bella get released from the Morrigan's custody only if Bo officially chooses the Light, since while Bo and Bella are unaligned technically nobody has to take responsibility for them.
  • Metaphorically True: A group of Dark Fae are sent to Forks posing as a "task force" intended to hunt down "a couple of dangerous fugitives"; basically true, save that the "fugitives" are Bella and Bo who don't want to hurt anyone but just want to be left in peace.
    N to Z
  • Never My Fault: Lachlan adopts this attitude when informing Evony that the consequences of Bella's confrontation with Victoria are her fault to clear up, as the Morrigan was the one to propose this "solution" and all Lachlan did was not object.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero!: Basically applies from a fae perspective after Lachlan and Evony's attempt to get Bella killed fighting Victoria not only leads to her tapping into a new level of power, but also leaves Bella resolved to follow Bo's example and not take a side, whereas before these events she was considering choosing the Light just to keep things simple since most of her fae friends were on that side anyway.
  • Not Quite Dead: As it turns out, turning Victoria's head backwards didn't kill her outright, allowing Laurent to take her body, turn her head back the right way around, and seal the cracks with his venom.
  • One-Steve Limit: When Bella learns that a task force being sent to Forks is led by someone named Tamsin, she immediately suspects the Dark Fae given how uncommon that name is.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Essentially the reason a pair of cleaners handed Victoria to Laurent after the fight, as they had no idea what to do with her themselves given that Victoria's state meant that she wasn't quite dead even if they weren't sure if she was alive either.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: When Dyson returns to Toronto, he delegates pack leadership between Sam, Quil, Embry and Jared , with Billy and Quil's father in a supervisor capacity, rather than appointing a direct proxy, Dyson not wanting to repeat his uncle's mistake of assuming total power to such an extent that nobody else has any say in things.
  • Reluctant Ruler: After Dyson becomes the new Alpha, Sam admits that he never actually wanted the job himself, and affirms that he's grateful for the way things have changed]].
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: When Leah confronts the Dark Fae but runs away straight after facing Tamsin, other Dark Fae Alexis assumes that Tamsin cast doubt to drive Leah away, but in reality Leah ran away because she was shocked to find herself imprinting on Tamsin.
  • Rules Lawyer:
    • The Light and Dark Fae each rely on these loopholes to "justify" holding Bella; while they shouldn't be able to indefinitely hold an underage fae who hasn't chosen a side yet or done anything herself, Bella represents a grey area in the rules as she officially has no "legal guardian" in the fae world, since her only known relative is Bo and Bo has no status given her position as the unaligned succubus (Trick might be able to take responsibility for Bella, but since he went to so much trouble hiding his relationship with Aife it would take a long time to confirm his relationship with Bo and Bella, and other fae will do everything possible to draw that process out).
    • Similar rules mean that the Cullens can't be officially "charged" for killing James; as they believed Bella was human at the time he hunted her, legally the Cullens can justify killing James on the grounds that he was threatening their "property", even if they never explicitly claimed Bella in that sense when they thought she was human.
    • When the Dark Fae task force comes to Forks, attempts to force them to leave don't work as neither the Quillettes or the Cullens actually live in Forks and so can't claim it as their "territory". Although the Dark Fae do agree that they won't just break into privately owned residences such as the Swan household as that genuinely is Bella's, they also insist on being allowed to feed on humans, even if they affirm that they won't do anything to draw suspicion (which unfortunately doesn't include taking care not to kill a child).
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here!: When Bo and her allies return to Toronto, Jacob and Leah accompany them, Jacob to be with Kenzi and Leah because she wants to get away from Forks and try and find herself elsewhere.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Loosely applies; Emily's shifter status allowed her to avoid being scarred by Sam during an argument like she was in canon, as she was able to turn into a squirrel and run up a tree when Sam shifted during his initial temper tantrum, thus ensuring that he couldn't actually hit her and leave her with her canonical scars.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Word of God notes that this is basically why Bo and Kenzi's clubhouse was destroyed while they were in Forks; the building was already visually condemned, and without their presence to deter anyone from taking action it was demolished.
  • Take a Third Option: Since keeping Bella locked up in holding is attracting unwanted attention and forcing her to take the trials isn't practical when she still has months to go before her eighteenth birthday, the Morrigan suggests to Lachlan that they deal with Bella by allowing Victoria to challenge the succubus directly to satisfy her vendetta.
  • Theory Tunnelvision: The Morrigan continues to at least say that Bo might have been working with her mother even though there is no evidence of that theory and Bo's allies affirm that she was acting against Aife, the Morrigan using this to "justify" keeping Bella prisoner.
  • This Is My Human: Essentially inverted; after witnessing Bella's power, Victoria notes that the Cullens might as well be Bella's "pets" now.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Tamsin explicitly reflects that Alexis the insect-style Dark Fae was only included on the investigating team so that she would deliberately provoke the succubus sisters by attacking someone.
  • Token Good Teammate:
    • When the Quillettes start to object to Bo and Bella's presence in Forks after Harry's death, Jacob is the only one willing to openly acknowledge that it's not fair to blame the succubi for what the Dark Fae are doing.
    • Kenzi basically acknowledges Charlie as this in terms of his role as a cop (she considers Dyson and Hale to be fae first rather than "defining" them as cops).
  • Took a Level in Badass: Bella swiftly shows her new personal strength when she not only refuses to be intimidated when facing the Morrigan, but also tells Bo not to give in and choose a side just to get her out of holding.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • The non-wolves are outraged when the Quillettes try to order Bella and Bo to leave Forks or pick a side after Harry is killed by one of the visiting Dark Fae, as regardless of how guilty they feel Bo and Bella didn't force anyone to come here, and Dyson is able to force a challenge against Sam in his role as Bo's mate (Jacob was also objecting due to his bond with Kenzi, but that wasn't enough on its own).
    • Dyson essentially does this when he confronts Lachlan about his continued suspicions of Bo, suggesting that Lachlan try and deal with his concerns about the current situation by approaching Bo to ask for her help rather than be suspicious of her wider agenda.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Alexis, one of the Dark Fae sent to monitor Bella and Bo in Forks, explicitly states that she enjoys feeding on children even when adults would offer suitable sustenance (her species feeds on spinal fluid and leaves a trace similar to an insect bite).
