Go To

Black Clover Z is a Dragon Ball Z/Black Clover crossover fic by Dragon Scripture.

Helen wants to leave her village and go on adventures with her foster brother Asta and become a magic knight. Just one thing, she isn't from around anywhere in the kingdom, and she has the tail to prove it.

Can be read here.

This fanfic provides examples of:

    Main Story
  • Accidental Hero: Asta is this as he had accidentally given Kamla an amnesia by hitting her in the head after her arrival on the world of Black Clover and end up living with him and Yuno and the townsfolk of Hage Village as Helen. If he hadn't, she would have caused some massive casualties as part of her Saiyan mission.note
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Similarly like Asta who was born without any magic power, Helen was regarded as a tailed freak with immense magic power in the Clover Kingdom. Even when she was minding her own business and never bothered anyone, the visiting noble's children attacked her with magic, intending to drive her out.
  • Amazon Brigade: The Blue Roses Magic Knight squad are this and Helen joins them after Charlotte Roselei picked her at the Magic Knights Entrance Exam (although Yami Sukehiro picked her too but eventually relented).
  • Ancient Conspiracy: Unbeknownst to the Clover Kingdom, several members of the Magic Knight squads were Saiyan-Elf spies from New Sadala and they have been doing it for centuries. Not only that, New Sadala had ties with the Heart Kingdom as well and were coordinating with its ruler, Lolopechka.
  • Ascended Extra: In Black Clover canon, the Blue Roses as a squad has minimal focus aside from their captain and few prominent members like Sol Marron and Puli Angel. Here, they become this after Helen joined them.
  • Attack Its Weak Point: The tail of a Saiyan is this which Asta figured it out before he and his captain Yami Sukehiro worked together in cutting Helen's tail off, neutralizing her Oozaru transformation.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: The Oozaru form of Helen is this as it once appeared 10 years ago which Wizard King Julius Novachrono stopped it with Time Magic, and it came back when Gauche Adlai destroyed the cavern's ceiling to reveal the full moon for Helen to unwittingly transform and cause a rampage.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: Abigail Cellia, a Saiyan-Elf spy is this in Green Mantis Magic Knight squad as she had been overburdened with paperwork that her captain Jack the Ripper had put her through, resulting with Exhausted Eye Bags when she meet with her fellow spies of New Sadala regarding Helen whom they recognize as a pure-blood Saiyan.
  • Came Back Strong: Thanks to her Saiyan nature, Helen become much stronger after recovering from her mortal wounds. It even boosted her already immense magic power which worries Helen of how stronger she becomes with her "curse", making it very difficult for the Wizard King and the 9 Magic Knight captains to subdue her when she transforms again.
  • Commonality Connection:
    • Helen shares a bond with Asta when it comes to being looked down by prejudicial people in Clover Kingdom; herself as a "cursed girl with a tail" and Asta as the Un-Sorcerer.
    • Charlotte Roselei, captain of the Blue Roses Magic Knight squad, gets along with Helen after learning her newest recruit had an uncontrollable curse of transforming into a giant ape creature at full moon from Wizard King Julius Novachrono. Much like herself in the past with a curse that affected her Briar Magic she couldn't control prior to Yami Sukehiro saving her.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: Asta, who wasn't picked at the finale selection, was on the receiving end of this by Yami Sukehiro who state that while his combat capabilities are good, his Anti-Magic is an enigma compared to Helen's Elemental Enchantment that at least has some magical aspect the Magic Knight Captains can sense and understand. Of course Yami recruited Asta into the Black Bulls anyway after testing the latter's resolve in the face of intimidating exertion of his immense magical power.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Helen's presence as a Magic Knight had caught the attention of New Sadala after Luna Cellia informs Commander Aaron about her and believed she was The Illegal who snuck out of their homeland's borders underneath their noses. Then they find out that Helen is actually a Saiyan or Pureblood when she uses the Galick Gun technique and transform into an Oozaru.
  • Disappointed by the Motive: Downplayed as when Helen states she doesn't want to become the Wizard King, Fuegoleon was slightly disappointed on her lack of ambition despite her rapidly growing magical power that all Magic Knights can sense. She defends that it's her brothers Asta and Yuno's dreams and explains that aside from wanting to have adventures, she wanted to find out where she came from of her amnesiac past.
  • The Dreaded: New Sadala are wary of the Saiyans, or at least the Evil Counterpart of their ancestors, the Six Good Saiyans when they learn about Helen being a Pureblood living among humans along with the fact she possess the Galick Gun from the Vegeta bloodline.
  • Dreadful Musician: Helen is this as she was banned from participating in church choirs and Asta compared her singing to Father Orsi's nails on a chalkboard.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Helen, a Saiyan, was able to use magic and obtain Elemental Enchantment because she was empowered by the artificial grimoire that bestows anyone with said magical ability as the Magnum Opus of Elemental Enchantment.
  • Fantastic Slur: The Children of the Six called the Saiyans as "Pureblood" due to the fact they're hybrid descendants of the Elves and the Six Good Saiyans. "Licht" and his Third Eye comrades call Helen a "Pureblood" when they recognize her as a Saiyan.
  • Going Native: After losing her memories and Saiyan identity as Kamla, she does this as Helen, the foster sister of Asta and Yuno and a girl with a strange tail who thought she was cursed.
  • Heroic Lineage: The Children of the Six are this as they're descended from the Six Good Saiyans that survived the destruction of Planet Sadala and settled on the world of Black Clover where they met the Elves and had children with them along with founding New Sadala as their home.
  • Hidden Elf Village: Or rather, a Hidden Saiyan-Elf Village known as New Sadala, home of the Children of the Six.
  • Human Disguise: With Mana Seal, a Saiyan-Elf can hide their pointy ears and tail to appear as a human when blending in among the human populace on the surface. They can undo it to reveal their true nature.
  • Humble Goal: Helen prefers a goal of living out an adventure and fighting strong enemies as a Magic Knight compared to her adoptive brothers Asta and Yuno who have a shared Goal in Life to compete with each other to become the next Wizard King.
  • Identity Amnesia: Thanks to Asta hitting her in the head, Kamla lost her Saiyan identity and goes by the human name of Helen.
  • Ki Manipulation: Helen does this as a Saiyan and it augments her magic power she recently acquired. Yami Sukehiro notes how large her Ki signature was when he sensed it from her in first meeting of the Magic Knights Entrance Exam.
  • Magic Enhancement: Helen's magical ability is called "Elemental Enchantment" that allows her to enhance her melee weapons and physical abilities with Elemental Powers.
  • Mythical Motifs: Most of Helen's Elemental Enchantment spells were named after Greek mythology.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero!: Gauche Adlai had deflected "Licht's" Light Magic attack with his Mirror Magic which destroyed what's left of the roof, exposing Helen to the full moon that transformed her into the Oozaru.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Played for Laughs. Asta will never be not reminded that he was the one who gave Helen an amnesia, which Yuno brings it up much to his comical dismay.
  • Original Character:
    • Helen, the main character of the story, who originally went by the Saiyan name Kamla and became amnesiac after Asta hit her in the head.
    • From the Diamond Kingdom:
      • Argentum Vulpine, an infamous mage of Diamond Kingdom who was known as the "Silver Fox" and a Human Trafficker whom Helen encountered and killed on her first mission as a Magic Knight.
      • Evanora, one of the Old Generation from the Eight Shining Generals who was known as the "Wicked Witch of the East" and is the wife of Lotus Whomalt.
    • From New Sadala:
      • The Saiyan Elf spies among the Magic Knight squads are:
      • Luna Cellia - a recently former member of the Black Bulls who wields Perfection Magic and owner of a magic tattoo shop. She was later ordered by Commander Aaron to rejoin the Black Bulls to investigate the Eye of the Midnight Sun whose leader and Third Eye claim to be Elves.
      • Judas - a member of the Crimson Lions who is the The Big Guy.
      • Abigail Cellia - a member of Green Mantis who wields Clockwork Magic and sister of Luna Cellia.
      • Barnabas Romne - a member of Purple Orcas who wields Illusion Magic and is as greedy as his captain, Gueldre Poizot and betrayed New Sadala by aligning himself with the Eye of the Midnight Sun.
      • Lemos Amira - a member of the Aqua Deer who went renegade and was best friend with her captain Rill Boismortier.
      • The members of the Council of Six that rule New Sadala are:
      • Aaron - the Commander
      • Chaya - the Priestess
      • Pinach - the Champion
      • Abraham - the Headmaster who is the Old Master among the council
      • Demeter - the Cleric whose magic allows her to grow nature and plantlife by speaking
      • Gaia - the Architect and the only Elf member of the council
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Barnabas, one of New Sadala's spies believe Helen to do this as she never bothered hiding her Saiyan tail when living among the humans only to be corrected that she was amnesiac and unaware of her true heritage.
  • The Perfectionist: Luna Cellia, a Saiyan Elf spy is this with her Perfect Magic when she was a member of the Black Bulls.
  • Rank Up: After joining the Magic Knights with Asta and Yuno, Helen rose her way in the ranks, becoming Intermediate Magic Knight Second Class.
  • Shout-Out:
    • To Dragon Ball Z Abridged:
      • Helen asks "Are we there yet?" repeatedly to Asta and Yuno who were annoyed during their trip to the Capital City of Clover Kingdom; a nod to Nappa doing this to Vegeta.
      • Helen asks Sekke Bronzzazza if he's trying to hurt her brother Asta, before giving him a deserved beatdown, in a manner of Vegeta demanding if Gohan and Trunks were thwarting his plans.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In Black Clover canon, most of the Elf race was wiped out and the descendants of Licht and Tetia's surviving twin child were the small remnants of their people who live at Elysia within Heart Kingdom. Here, there is a separate group of Elves who lived in New Sadala with their cousins, the Children of the Six and their representative in the council was Gaia.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Helen may be powerful in wielding Elemental Enchantment but she wastefully use her spells in massive amounts as Fuegoleon pointed out during Rades Spirito's attack on the Clover Kingdom's capital city with an army of zombies he controlled.
  • The Worf Effect: Mars, the strongest member of the New Generation from the Eight Shining Generals, was on the receiving end of this by Helen who used the Vegeta royal family's Galick Gun to defeat him in one blow. It unnerves Lotus and his wife Evanora when they barely escaped with the defeated Mars and the treasure of the collapsed dungeon.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: "Licht" tries to do this to Barnabas so that he will be silenced from spilling more secrets. However, Barnabas was quick to stop "Licht" by revealing his true form as a Saiyan-Elf.

    Alternate Universe: Anti-Magic Saiyan
Like her foster brothers Asta and Yuno, Helen intends to leave Hage Village and join the Magic Knights. Even though she doesn't possess magic other than her inborn ability to fire purple energy blasts from her hands, at least she got that cool grimoire with a five leaf black clover and a huge sword that can nullify magic.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Downplayed as while Liebe already appeared at the beginning of Black Clover canon, he shows up as a menacing shadowy silhouette within the black clover grimoire until Nacht Faust summons him properly for the Devil-Binding Ritual that Asta must defeat him and form a contract of equals with his surrogate brother. Here, he is looking around for anyone without magic power to wield the grimoire he dwells and use Anti-Magic through him until he encounters Helen.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change:
    • In Black Clover Z, Helen wields Elemental Enchantment. Here, she wields Anti-Magic after Liebe chose her.
    • Asta uses Elemental Enchantment as he he was empowered by the artificial grimoire that bestows anyone with said magical ability when he picked it up instead of Helen.
  • Ascended Extra: The Dwarves appear in this story as citizens of Clover Kingdom, living among humans in the capital city. In Black Clover canon, they were briefly mentioned by Mimosa Vermillion when she recognizes Charmy Pappitson to have half-Dwarf heritage during the Elf invasion.
  • BFS:
    • After receiving the black clover grimoire, Helen wields the Demon-Slayer Sword as her primary weapon and thanks to her Saiyan strength, she can lift it with ease.
    • Asta uses a heavy greatsword made by Helen in conjunction with Elemental Enchantment, usually with the fire attribute.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The three surrogate siblings from Hage Village dish these out on their opponents:
    • Like in Black Clover canon, Asta with his Elemental Enchantment's fire attribute and Yuno with his Wind Magic easily defeat Sekke Bronzzazza and Salim Hapshass respectively at the entrance exam's duel.
    • Helen takes down Brosnan Granvorka in one hit before the latter can use her Golden Eyes Magic against her.
  • Eye Beams: Brosnan Granvorka wields Golden Eyes Magic, allowing her to fire golden magic blast from her eyes. She uses it to fight Helen in a duel during the entrance exam.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Asta wielding fire as his Elemental Enchantment is to Allen Fiarain, former deceased best friend of Zenon Zogratis who wields Fire Magic and resembles Asta with a similar dream of becoming the next Commander-in-Chief of Spade Kingdom like how Asta dreams of becoming the next Wizard King. He and Allen wield swords of fire.
      • In Black Clover canon, Lucius Zogratis promises to revive Asta with a new body and the ability to wield magic for real when he kills him. Here, Asta gets to wield magic through Elemental Enchantment after he picks up an artificial grimoire granting him magical power.
      • Helen muses that in another time, Asta would have been the one wielding Anti-Magic and the Demon-Slayer Sword.
  • Power Misidentification: Helen intends to pass off her purple energy power as "Purple Light Magic" when joining the Magic Knights at the entrance exam. Unfortunately, due to her ability not being magical in nature, the Magic Knight Captains aren't fooled especially Yami who can sense Ki. When Yami picks her to be part of the Black Bulls, he gives her the hint that he already knows much to her panic.
  • Team Member in the Adaptation:
    • In Black Clover canon, Asta joins the Black Bulls after he passes Yami's Secret Test of Character. Here, he joins Aqua Deer after Rill Boismortier picks him after getting interested in Asta's Elemental Enchantment.
    • In Black Clover Z, Helen is a member of Blue Rose after Charlotte Roselei picks her and Yami relents. Here, she is picked by Yami to be part of Black Bulls.
