Ben 10: Futo Adventures
is a Crossover between Ben 10: Ultimate Alien and Kamen Rider Double written by omnimegalander
after being adopted from BigbyTheBigBadWolf
When a mysterious woman named Shroud sends Ben Tennyson to the Windy City of Fūto, he finds himself working alongside the Narumi Detective Agency, and thereby with Kamen Rider Double. Now, Ben finds himself fighting against those who make the city cry by spreading Gaia Memories.
Ben 10: Futo Adventures provides examples of:
- Adaptational Badass:
- The Money Dopant, alongside his canon abilities, has the ability to fire paper money sharp enough to cut through Spidermonkey's webs.
- The Nazca Dopant is able to fight both Kamen Rider Double and Heatblast back to back, whereas he was taken out by the former alone in canon.
- Adaptational Early Appearance: Shroud shows up in a flashback during the second chapter of the story to have Ben go to Fūto, whereas she didn't appear until the twentieth episode in the original series.
- Adaptational Name Change: Blitzwolfer's name is changed to "Subwolfer" here, being a portmanteau of "subwoofer" and "wolf" instead of a reference to Wolf Blitzer.
- Adaptational Nice Guy: Miyabi Kusuhara is shown to be far more polite and understanding than her canon self, and also shows far more care upfront about her daughter, smiling at Ben and Asuka happily playing together and asking Shotaro to remind her to thank Ben for making her daughter happier. It's also indicated that she does feel some guilt for lying to her daughter and putting her in danger, but feels that she's come too far.
- Adaptational Villainy: Taizo Kaga, the Money Dopant, was already a slimy customer who preyed on gambling addicts to take all their money and life-force while mocking them, but here, he proves to be even more villainous, deciding to try and take Ben from the Narumi Detective Agency and use him to set up a Protection Racket, suggesting he could burn Yūko's family's store if he doesn't get a cut of their profits.
- Adapted Out: The original version of the fic included a scene of Professor Paradox interacting with the DenLiner crew as well as a cameo appearance of Tsukasa. After the fic was adopted, the scene was removed due to the new author not knowing much about Den-O.
- Alien Blood: Zig-Zagged, as Subwolfer bleeds red blood, but Swampfire bleeds yellow tree sap-like blood.
- All There in the Manual: Like the current author's other works about Ben 10, each time a new alien form debuts, the story includes each form's Codon Stream entry, talking about the alien's species, home planet, and abilities.
- Animal Jingoism: Subwolfer and the Smilodon Dopant (aka Mick) do not get along well, fitting with Subwolfer being a wolf-like (dog) while Mick is a cat taking the form of a monster based on a prehistoric feline.
- Big Brother Instinct:
- On Akiko's side, she is quite protective of Ben when he's hurt, and in the aftermath of the Anomolocaris Dopant case, she tends to his wounds and forces him to rest, with her seeing him as her otōto. She also declares that should she ever encounter Will Harangue when Ben talks about the Captain Nemesis incident, she'll give him a Shoe Slap.
- On Ben's side, he comforts Akiko when they find a victim of the Million Coloseo, and is very protective of Asuka, not willing to give her up as the Anomolocaris Dopant gives him a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown.
- Friend to All Children: Ben is shown to get along very well with Asuka Kusuhara, happily playing games like cat's cradle and Simon Says, willingly losing the latter so she can win. He's earlier shown to be terrified of the idea of kids looking to him as inspiration to purchase Gaia Memories, or of them being advertised to them using his image.
- Fusion Fic: Max reveals that the worlds of Ben 10 and Kamen Rider are part of the same world, with the Kamen Riders being active since the 70s.
- More specifically, Captain Nemesis is mentioned to have worked alongside Kamen Rider Agito against the Overlord, with the implication being that that was where he got his name after his Face–Heel Turn.
- Go Through Me: Even after being taken off-guard by the Anomalocaris Dopant, Ben, in human form, refuses to put Asuka in danger, putting himself in front of Asuka and declaring the Dopant will have to go through him to get to her.
- Hypocritical Heartwarming: As Akiko says herself, no one makes her employees feel bad but her.
- Immortality Through Memory: Ghostfreak, pretending to be Asuka's father, tells her that one doesn't die when they take their last breath, but rather when they're forgotten. As long as someone remembers them, they're alive in some way.
- Mythology Gag: A couple exist for both franchises.
- For Ben 10:
- The Sonozakis keep logs of Ben's adventures, with two adventures they recorded involving the Great One in Yosemite Park and Ghostfreak blocking out the sun with Corrodium.
- One of the products given by Santa-Chan is a toy of Fiery Buddy, flashing Ben back to Super Alien Hero Buddy Adventures and his adventure in Hollywood against Kangaroo Kommando.
- When Kaga decides to put Ben's employment as part of the wager between him and Philip, Akiko argues that he's an individual with his own thoughts and mind and will, a similar argument used by Sentient Ultimate Swampfire in "The Ultimate Sacrifice".
- For Kamen Rider:
- Against the Money Dopant, Big Chill uses a similar technique as per Kamen Rider Drive as Shift Justice Hunter to trap the Dopant in an icy jail cell.
- The title of Chapter 6, "The Reason Why Some Lie" is similar to the seventh episode of Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, "The Reason For Some Lies". Fitting, as both deal with how to reveal an Awful Truth.
- Ghostfreak, pretending to be Asuka's father, states that him possessing Kamen Rider Double created Kamen Rider Ghost.
- For Ben 10:
- Point of Divergence: Here, Ben Tennyson goes to Fūto at the behest of Shroud, getting him involved in the conflict between the Narumi Detective Agency and the Sonozaki family.
- Shoe Slap: As per canon, Akiko has her green slipper on standby to give a Dope Slap to Shotaro, but now also has Ben as a target, repeatedly clonking him as Big Chill when mistaking him for a hostile monster the first time Ben transforms. She also decides that in light of Will Harangue's actions, she's giving him "the deluxe treatment", holding her slipper in response.
- Shout-Out:
- A couple for Dragon Ball Z Abridged:
- After losing his arm, Swampfire simply smiles as he regrows it, commenting on how he liked that arm better and will have to break in the new one taking down the T-Rex Dopant, much like Perfect Cell does in Episode 52.
- Shotaro and Ben mimic Semi-Perfect Cell's reaction to Goku using Instant Transmission in Episode 48 when their target somehow escapes their sight.Shotaro: Huh? What? How? Why?
Ben: I have so many questions! - Kaga Taizo also picked up on Freiza's fondness for counting how many times he's heard certain phrases.
- The title for Chapter 3 is "Here Comes the Money!", the title theme of Shane McMahon.
- Kaga also tells Ben that in this world, "you've got to have...money!" He later paraphrases part of the Villain Song of the movie said quote comes from.Money is power! If it were a dish, it'd be one I'd happily devour!
- A couple for Dragon Ball Z Abridged:
- Sneeze Cut: When Ben remembers that "oji-san" can also refer to uncles as well as grandpas, he tells her to call him Tennyson so as not to confuse him with the other "oji-san", Shotaro sneezing in response.
- Take a Third Option: In Chapters 5 and 6, one of the main questions is how to tell Asuka that Kamen Rider Double is not her father, the two main options being to reveal the Awful Truth of her father's death or keep her living a lie so as not to break her heart. Ben elects for a third option with help from Philip, pretending that Ghostfreak is the spirit of her father brought back through her faith in him and gently telling her that Kamen Rider Double is not her father, but that he'll still watch over her and her mother from the afterlife.
- This Is Unforgivable!: After learning that Captain Nemesis, Ben's former hero, was willing to put innocent lives at stake just to look better, and Will Harangue blamed Ben for his Face–Heel Turn in spite of everything he's done to protect the planet, Shotaro and Akiko are furious.Shotaro: That...bastard! How dare he treat the lives of others so causally? Like simple props to make his role on the world stage shine brighter than everyone else? If I ever meet Nesmith, remind me to give him several punches as HeatJoker!note
Akiko: Don't you forget about that reporter! He's getting the deluxe treatment from me! No one makes my employees feel bad but me! - Villainous Crush: Wakana develops interest in Ben, considering him cute and liking him for his polite personality, though struggles to see why he spends his time with Shotaro, someone she considers a fool.
- We Can Rule Together: Kirihiko, the Nazca Dopant, offers Ben to join his family business in weeding the dregs of society after complimenting him for his fighting skills and revealing that many of Museum's customers look to him as an inspiration. Ben refuses the offer after feigning interest.
- You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Ben is devastated when the Nazca Dopant reveals that his image has made a lot of their customers come looking for similar powers to his, an idea that haunts him when he returns. When he thinks about it and reveals what happens, the other three are quick to shut that train of thought down.Shotaro: Stop that train of thought, now[.] You are not to blame for the actions of those that sell Gaia Memories to others. The only thing you're guilty of is doing the right thing with the power you have. Maybe you were irresponsible at times, but you were ten, hardly an age known for being mature. You couldn't have known that these villains would cash in on your image to peddle their products to innocent people. So don't waste time on that fiend's words. Focus on helping us take these guys down; the ones who actually make our city cry.
Philip: He's right, Ben[.] Put your effort into fighting the ones actually selling Gaia Memories to monsters like Kaga and Takamura and the vulnerable like Togawa and Marina.
Akiko: Just do what you've always done, Ben[.] That's the best way to help our city.
