Batman 2033 AD

Go To

Batman 2033 AD is a crossover between Batman and Metro 2033, set in a post-apocalyptic setting. It's written by JediBatman.

Batman is in a post-apocalyptic environment, where things have forced him and others to adapt and survive. However, he is set to show that even in such a situation, hope is not lost.

This work contains examples of:

  • Asshole Victim:
    • Joe Chill dies a bit after killing Batman's parents.
    • The pilot working under the Penguin. When the nukes fell, he chose to abandon everyone else and escape on his own, but the shockwave of the nukes is strongly implied to kill him before Penguin dies himself. Penguin retroactively exposes the pilot's treachery for good measure.
  • Batman Grabs a Gun: Literally. The reasons why he now uses guns are the nuclear apocalypse happening, him losing some of his past gear and resources, and Joker becoming even more dangerous than before.
  • Boom, Headshot!: The best way to deal with the mutants.
  • Chew Bubblegum: This is not just referenced, but it also has an explicit shoutout to They Live!.
  • Continuity Nod: To The Dark Knight trilogy. The fights with Bane are mentioned.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • Joe Chill doesn't survive long enough to ever confront Batman. He dies shortly after he kills Batman's parents.
    • The Penguin doesn't survive the apocalypse, or rather its immediate aftermath.
  • Decapitated Army: Double subverted with Jokerland. It still exists after the Joker dies and has to be taken down, but a few proper tactics from the good guys and a total lack thereof from the bad guys ensure Jokerland falls easily.
  • Defiant to the End:
    • Alfred faces the whole League of Shadows and goes down swinging.
    • The Joker, after his goons are all slaughtered, not only refuses to surrender, but charges with a sword until he is filled with lead.
  • Dented Iron: Batman and Alfred are still badass, but their age does hinder them partially. It's one of the reasons why a new Robin is employed.
  • Evil Has a Bad Sense of Humor: As usual, Joker can make forcing his troops to do his next plan of ruling the world whimsy.
  • Foreshadowing: A long fall injures Ra's al Ghul, even when he uses a parachute. This means he is not as immortal as he thinks.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Alfred sacrifices himself by taking on the whole League of Shadows with a sniper rifle, killing its leader and many other members.
  • Hijacked by Ganon:
    • The biggest threat to Batman post-apocalypse is still the Joker, now a tyrannical king.
    • The League of Shadows was behind the nuclear war. Although not even they wanted it to escalate this badly.
  • Hope Bringer: While the setting combines the bleakness of both franchises it's based on, Batman, Alfred and Robin are bringers of hope, allowing the story to not be too bleak.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Batman is tagged as such. Despite being grumpy as usual and even more hardened by the apocalypse, he is still not giving up hope.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Batman may be a Combat Pragmatist, but he refuses to shoot a melee bruiser in an honorable duel, so his potential victory will be accepted by the opposing side.
  • Meaningless Villain Victory: Joker succeeds at breaching the Vault, despite sacrificing goons and at least one drill. The part of the Vault he enters has nothing significant before Batman catches up. That's because Batman and Robin got there first and removed the canisters Joker was after before he got there.
  • Out-Gambitted:
    • Joe, the champion Batman faces, relies a lot on tricky two-hit combos, winning at first. Batman eventually uses his overt reliance on such combos against him.
    • Even though Batman and Robin get to the Vault first, Joker and his goons heavily outnumber them. The odds are evened with Claymore mines and grenades.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Ra's Al Ghul turns out to be alive and well, even after his loss to Batman and the nuclear apocalypse. His luck only runs out during the events of the story.
  • Tyrant Takes the Helm: Joker becomes the king of his own land. He names it Jokerland and employs We Have Reserves on his minions.
  • We Have Reserves: The amount of goons Joker sacrifices to achieve his goals would be considered a Pyrrhic Victory by anyone else, yet he sees it as Worth It.
