The stage is set for a grand performance. There's a glorious Medieval castle in the background, with the silhouette of a dragon flying around the roof.
An A3! Metafiction oneshot written by BlizzardWolfFang, Arisu Amuck follows the style of Duck Amuck. Homare finds himself trolled by a sadistic creator. With a pencil and an eraser, the creator alters the background, the storyline, and even Homare's physique as he pleases. Rage Against the Author ensues, and the creator continues to troll... until several bags of brand new marshmallows arrive in the animation studio in reality, from Homare. It also has a dash of Black Comedy and Satire.
Tropes found in the work
- Alliterative Title: Arisu Amuck.
- Author Powers: And the creator happily uses it to troll Homare.
- Black Comedy: Tasuku being unceremoniously eaten by a dragon is morbidly hilarious due to the circumstances that lead to it. Homare feels insulted at the cliches, such as Tasuku being a knight just because he is muscular while Homare is reduced to a Support Party Member mage. It is because of his annoyance at the role assignment that he refuses to play his role, leading to the dragon chomping down Tasuku.
- Butt-Monkey: The creator has a lot of fun making Homare suffer.
- Dragons Versus Knights: Homare thinks he will be the knight who will slay the dragon, but instead it is Tasuku. Homare is relegated to the role of an unimpressive Support Party Member, much to his chagrin because he takes it as a waste of his genius.
- Exact Words: Courtesy of the Jackass Genie creator.
- The Wormhole spell is exactly a giant worm making a giant hole.
- A dragon slayer sword is exactly that famous Dragonslayer sword.
- Homare asks to be given the chance to make history, and he is given the chance to figure skate. Double up as a Shout-Out to Yuri!!! on Ice.
- When Homare is drawn with the build of a malnourished twig, Homare demands the creator to return his muscles. The creator makes Homare a bodybuilder on steroids.
- After the complete erasure, Homare demands a form. Homare is given a form...of a turtle.
- Homare demands to be released from the absurd turtle form. The creator releases Homare from the shell and makes him a shell-less turtle.
- Exploiting the Fourth Wall: The creator uses this to torment Homare, represented by a pencil and an eraser.
- Forced Transformation: Homare is subjected to this after a complete erasure of his form. The creator makes him a turtle.
- Hope Spot: When the creator finally draws the Dragonslayer sword for Homare to wield against the dragon, the ground crumbles and stops Homare from wielding it and becoming the hero.
- Hypocritical Humor: Homare complains that Tasuku being given a knight role just because of his muscles is cliche. Tasuku points out that Homare wanting to play the role of a knight slaying a dragon is also a cliche.
- Jackass Genie: The sadistic animator gleefully misinterprets Homare's Rage Against the Author and gives him the Exact Words, putting poor Homare through numerous mishap.
- No Fourth Wall: This is mainly a back-and-forth between Homare and the creator.
- Rage Against the Author: Because the creator abuses his Author Powers to troll Homare, Homare spends most of the time in the oneshot raging against him.
- Satire: Can be seen as one with the Troperrific beginning towards A3 itself, especially before the creator in the story is revealed to be Hisoka in the end.
- This mocks how Tasuku is often assigned a warrior or bruiser-type role just because of his muscles.
- The creator's constant refusal to make Homare the knight mocks the fact that the game already has an actual "dragon and knight" story with Homare as the knight, but is nothing more than a tiny mention in a minichat in Tag Match: Halloween '17. Seven years (and counting) later, Homare never gets a knight role despite how this concept can easily fit in some event sets and double up as a Call-Back, something A3 loves to do from time to time.
- Shout-Out:
- One to Duck Amuck from the title and the overall style.
- A sword that is massive, thick, heavy, and far too rough to be called a sword...
- Homare goes figure skating while singing History Maker. Doubles up as a voice actor joke, as Toshiyuki Toyonaga voices both Homare and Yuri Katsuki.
- Homare is a genius who does butterfly strokes in swimming. Similarly, this doubles up as a voice actor joke, as Toshiyuki Toyonaga voices both Homare and Asahi Shiina.
- Support Party Member: Homare is made into one by the creator. He describes it as "staying at the back chanting some healing and inspiring spells all while my allies swing swords and steal all the spotlight" and takes it as an insult.
- Troperrific: The beginning is a stack of cliches upon cliches. It looks like Homare will be the knight in a story of Dragons Versus Knights, Dragons Prefer Princesses, and Save the Princess, only to be denied the knight role and is relegated to the role of a Support Party Member. Meanwhile, Tasuku gets the knight role because he is muscular. This invokes the Sword and Sorcerer trope, except it does not work because Homare is so pissed that he refuses to cast a support spell, causing Tasuku to be eaten by the dragon.
- To add insult to injury, when Homare demands something to handle the dragon, the creator gives him classic Fire, Ice, Lightning spells. Homare demands something more creative to do his genius justice, if the creator cannot afford to make him a noble knight for whatever reason.
- Troll: The creator to Homare. Homare lampshades it.
Homare: Are you what Itaru-kun calls a troll?
- Yank the Dog's Chain: Whenever things start to look good for Homare, the creator decides to troll again. By the end of it, Homare develops trust issues towards the creator.
- Homare is given the chance to figure skate. When he is happily figure skating, the creator draws two suns and causes the ice and snow to melt, causing Homare to plunge into the water immediately.
- Next, Homare is given the chance to swim. When he is happily swimming, the creator erases everything, including Homare.
- Subverted in the end that the creator lets Homare genuinely shine in St Flora auditorium with his voice and a proper uniform. Doubles up as an Earn Your Happy Ending, with the creator drawing closed curtains, roses, and a big "the end" on the curtains.
