"Endgame is coming, Chosen. The world will fall and we will reign supreme."

Endgame is an Animator vs. Animation fanfic made by an anonymous user who named themselves after their work - AVAEndgame. Ten months after the events of "The Showdown", it is revealed the Dark Lord is still alive, and with an ally called Ditzyshine. The Chosen One and the Stick Gang meet and befriend new allies so they can be prepared for the final war that will determine the fate of the Internet. The fic contains numerous Original Characters that haven't appeared in the main series, including the Deserved One.

The fully story can be read here on Archive of Our Own. Has also received a lot of Recursive Fanfiction.

All spoilers for the main AvA series are unmarked. You Have Been Warned!

Tropes that appear during Endgame:

  • Abusive Parents: The Dark Lord is the master and surrogate father of Ditzyshine, and he treats her horribly. He regularly hits and starves her, trains her brutally, has her live in a room that's torturous to her, and ultimately installs a device that lets him hijack her body.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Downplayed, but here the Chosen One, the Dark Lord, and the Second Coming go by shortened versions of their names - Chosen, Dark and Second - like many fans do. Additionally, Second goes by his true name instead of Orange. Similarly, King Orange goes by simply King here.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Second implies Red was traumatized after being possessed by Herobrine at one point in the story.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • In the main series, the Dark Lord was evenly matched when fighting a 2v1 against the Chosen One and the Animator. Here, he can take on a 4v1 against Chosen, the Deserved One, the Universal One and Plasma and win (or at least stalemate) while being stated to have been holding back.
    • This Second Coming has started training with Chosen following "The Showdown", meaning he can actually use his powers if needed, while the canon Second received amnesia and remained a Badass Normal following the events of the episode.
  • Adaptational Comic Relief: As a result of being Outdated by Canon, this Victim - a harmless prankster - is far less intimidating then the Victim we see in the main series, although this one gets more serious after realising the depths of Dark's cruelty.
  • Adaptational Friendship: Chosen and the Stick Gang to their seperate ways after "The Showdown", and don't interact until five years later in "Wanted". Here, they've clearly kept close with Chosen training Second and his powers.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy:
    • This Victim is a harmless prankster who mostly just wants to have fun, in stark contrast to the canon Victim who, while tragic and justified, still relentlessly tortures the Chosen One. Of course, Outdated by Canon is into play here.
    • It's revealed ViraBots can be pacified, unlike the Always Chaotic Evil viruses of the main series.
    • As bad as he is otherwise, this Dark seeks simple world domination instead of destroying it all.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • Chosen fully steps into this once he tries to kill Ditzy for being a spy for Dark, though he's still presented as an anti-hero than a truly bad person.
    • The Dark Lord is somehow even worse here, being a horrible child abuser who tortures and obsesses over Ditzy to make sure she stays loyal to him.
  • Adaptational Wimp: This Victim is not nearly as impressive as the canon one, who is a powerful Corrupt Corporate Executive with four powerful sticks at his payroll.
  • All for Nothing: Dark dies at the end, meaning everything he planned for throughout the story was ultimately pointless and there is nothing left to remember him by.
  • An Ice Person: Ditzyshine and Silverfrost both possess ice powers, though it's clarified the former's are stronger.
  • And I Must Scream: Upon death, Dark finds himself in the Void, the afterlife for stick figures that is stated to be far from pleasant by Victim.
  • Arch-Enemy:
    • Chosen and Dark, like in canon.
    • Lime and Imperial Vermillion have an unexplained history, but clearly hate each other.
  • Asshole Victim: Deserved feels no sympathy for Chosen when he's defeated and nearly killed by a Dark-possessed Ditzy.
  • Bad Boss: Dark threatens to kill Negative and Disaster Guy if they don't do well enough during the final battle, and tries to kill Victim once he sees Dark mind-controlling Ditzy.
  • Big Bad: The Dark Lord is the leader of his Legion of Doom who plans revenge on Chosen and total domination over the Internet.
  • Cain and Abel: Negative is the Elemental One's envious older brother who turned evil after his brother stole his spotlight, now plotting to find and get revenge on Elemental.
  • Canon Foreigner: Everyone on both sides of the conflict except the Stick Gang, Chosen, Dark and Victim. And also Purple and King as of the Sequel Hook.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Excluding Ditzy, who has been tricked by Dark into believing Chosen and Second are evil, the whole Legion of Doom knows and admits they're the villains of this story.
  • Child Soldiers: Ditzy for Dark and Plasma for Chosen, which is to show the latter isn't as high-and-above Dark as he claims.
  • Co-Dragons: Out of his minions, Dark's main allies are Ditzyshine (who he's directly molding into his perfect pawn and surrogate daughter) and Victim (the most recurring member of the team besides Dark and Ditzy, who interacts with the leader the most).
  • Control Freak: Dark is obsessed with making sure Ditzy has eyes on him and only him, and wants no one else to interact with her.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: It's not given much detail, but Dark was stated to have been ripped apart by the combined strength of the heroes and villains attacking him.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: Dark molded Ditzy into being his obedient daughter and right hand.
  • Dark and Troubled Past:
    • Ditzy had a young animator create and take care of her before she died in a car crash: Ditzy watched her die via her creator's smartphone, accidentally freezing it during a mental breakdown, before escaping into the Internet where she was bullied and alienated due to looking different from others and being seen as just as a child. She took a liking to Dark because they both were hand-drawn investors, but we know how that turned out.
    • The Universal One was a normal, happy stick figure before encountering the Dark Lord, who decided to test out his technology on him, forcefully inserting some of the Vira code into him and giving him Vira powers, which left Uni traumatized and vengeful.
  • Death by Adaptation: Dark is still alive as of Animator vs. Animation 12, but he is pretty explicitly killed off here.
  • Demoted to Extra:
    • Downplayed with Second, who's still an active player here, but he doesn't do nearly as much as in the main series.
    • Green, Red, Yellow and Blue have far less important roles than in the main series, being just supporting characters. Especially Green and Yellow, who get to do basically nothing.
    • The Animator only appears for one chapter despite this being an Animator vs. Animation fic and there being a way to summon him into the Internet.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: All of Dark's allies are disgusted upon finding out he's abusing Ditzy, and plan to find a way to betray him.
  • Everyone Has Standards: To clarify, the heroes aren't fine with what Dark's doing either.
  • Fallen Hero: Negative was originally Positive, the Elemental One's older brother who wanted to be a hero before his brother took all the attention. Snapping, he destroyed their hometown and decided to become his brother's villain.
  • Freudian Excuse:
    • Ditzy is a friendly and shy kid who was molded into a villain by Dark, outside of everything that happened to her beforehand.
    • Kod Eye was bullied his whole life for being weak, and is a villain to prove all those bullies wrong by becoming the strongest there is.
    • It's briefly mentioned the Smiling Lord is evil because he's homeless and living on the streets, meaning he has to scam others for some food and money.
  • Golden Ending: Dark dies, every other villain turns good, and there are no casualties on the heroes' side with Ditzy being free of Dark's abuse and Chosen admitting he treated her poorly.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Everyone except Dark turns good to take him down at the end.
  • It's All About Me: Dark is delusional enough to believe Victim would stay loyal to him after he nearly died at his hands. He doesn't, and Dark's last words are ultimately an attempt to get Victim to rescue him.
  • Legion of Doom: Dark assembles one in Chapter 3, composed of people who have fought and lost to Chosen in the past (excluding Negative). Aside from himself, Ditzy and the Viras, there are also:
    • The Smiling Lord, a con artist who scams people for money and wants to get rich after conquering the Internet.
    • Kod Eye, a stick figure who was bullied for being weak and has since decided to become the World's Strongest Man for his revenge.
    • Victim, the Animator's first creation resurrected, and Silverfrost, the one who brought him back in the first place, who have retired from villainy to become harmless pranksters, only joining Dark for fun.
    • Imperial Vermillion, an Omnicidal Maniac who's the Arch-Enemy of Lime, a member of the heroes' team.
    • Negative, the Elemental One's big brother who has turned evil to get revenge after being denied the spotlight. Unlike everyone else, he is the one who sought out Dark instead of the other way around.
    • Disaster Guy, a Blood Knight who just wants a challenge.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution:
    • Negative is the one member of the Legion of Doom who has no beef with Chosen, and simply wants to get back at his brother. Similarly but on a much lower scale, Disaster Guy did have run-ins with Chosen but is mostly here for a good fight than revenge.
    • Lime claims he only joined the Super Team to fight Vermillion... despite the fact he joined the team before Dark recruited Vermillion, and didn't even know the two were working together at the time. Retcon much?
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Vermillion is stated to be seeking the destruction of everything.
  • Out of Focus: Out of Dark's Legion of Doom, the only ones given attention are himself, Ditzy, Victim, and to a lesser extent Silverfrost and Negative. The rest of them, especially the Viras and the Smiling Lord, are given little attention.
  • Sequel Hook: The fic ends with King and Purple watching the final battle, the former deciding they should resurrect Dark for their evil agenda. No sequel has come out since, so this is most likely just a cliffhanger for Recursive Fanfiction.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Played With when it comes to the Dark Lord. Both Endgame and the main series show him return following "The Showdown", but the context varies; the Endgame Dark straight-up survives the onslaught, hower injured. The canon Dark was actually killed by Second and had to be resurrected.
  • The Starscream: Everyone on Dark's team (besides Ditzy and the ViraBots) has plotted to betray Dark upon finding out he abuses Ditzy.
  • Super Team: The heroes made their own team to combat Dark: Chosen, the Stick Gang, the Deserved One, the Universal One, the Multiversal One, the Elemental One, Purity, Plasma, Shaira, Metsa, Mr. Ragey and Lime.
  • Take Over the World: Dark's ultimate goal, and by extension of his team, although most of them have their own motives.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Dark is ultimately this to his own army, being the one truly evil bastard in a group of villains who are tragic, remorseful and/or honorable.
  • Villain Override: Dark uses his technology to hijack Ditzy's body near the end of the story, though she manages to resist.
  • Where I Was Born and Razed: Negative destroyed his home town with one explosion upon snapping.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Dark needs no explanation, and Chosen tries to kill Ditzy upon finding out she was a spy.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: None of the villains except Dark would dream of hurting a kid, causing them to start plotting against him when they find out he's abusing Ditzy.
