A Saga of Tanya the Chansey

Go To

The Saga of Tanya the Chansey is a Pokémon and The Saga of Tanya the Evil crossover by Unkillablemage.

Following her second death, Tanya Degurechaff is reincarnated as a Happiny in a nursery. The story follows her second life, including her meeting with her trainer, Amelia Joy.

This fic can be found in SpaceBattles.com (here) and Sufficient Velocity (here)

The Saga of Tanya the Chansey includes examples of:

  • Big Fish in a Bigger Ocean: Tanya - who, while not quite her old self yet, is still The Devil of the Rhine and unusually strong for her age - is left greatly impressed by the display of power that was Wattson's battle with Glacia.
  • Blood Knight: Tanya is as much of one as ever, though she's initially in denial about it. Luckily, she's in a world with much healthier outlets for her urges.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: It happens a fair amount, due to Tanya's past life experiences coloring her perception of the happier world she lives in now.
    • Due to the Happiny line's inherent empathy, many children's books aimed at young Happiny teach things like the risks of sharing too much, which is wildly alien to Tanya.
    • Tanya has some reservations against the Champion position, thinking it's too easy to exploit.
  • The Dreaded: Tanya has a reputation among the Pokémon from her old nursery, if one that's less harsh than her canonical one, with one Mudkip refusing to fight her after she and Amelia start on their journey on account of her being "crazy". It's also implied from her and Amelia's interactions with other trainers that the wild Pokémon on Route 111 are also afraid of her, given that the other trainers state they were being swarmed with wild Pokémon while Amelia and Tanya only encountered one.
  • Inexplicably Identical Individuals: Subverted Trope due to the fact that the Deutragonist is a Joy, thus giving the author a chance to explore the nature of the similarity. In this story they're an extensive family with unusually strong genetics.
  • The Rival: A certain Torchic at the nursery serves as this to Tanya, with her even calling him as as her 'rival' in narration. He's the only Pokémon there who can give her a close fight, with every other Pokémon there being subjected to a Curb-Stomp Battle even when taking her on in groups.
  • New Life in Another World Bonus: Tanya is an Alpha, with large size, exceptional power and the ability to master an unusual move without a trainer.
  • Psychic Powers: Tanya masters Psychic and Gravity, due to Psychic-type energy being the closest to the Formulaic Magic she mastered in her previous life. Amelia expresses some interest in learning to use psychic abilities herself.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: Tanya being emotionally stunted from her past life makes it hard for her to understand many of the powers used by the Happiny line, which revolve around caring for others. It notably takes a while for her to figure out Heal Pulse with assistance despite being able to figure out and master several other Psychic moves on her own, and she needs to reassure herself that her desire to help Amelia when she's having a breakdown is something natural.
