Being a member of the Cryptid Club at school is the only excitement in Spike's life, but when a trio of girls calling themselves his wives come into his life, Spike discovers the truth about an incident years ago that almost cost him his life.

The story contains examples of:
- Adaptational Heroism: The Dazzlings are MUCH nicer in this story than they are in canon. Heck, at the beginning of the first chapter, they save a younger Spike from drowning.
- Adaptation Species Change: The Dazzlings are sirens in canon, whereas in this story, they are mermaids.
- Big Sister Instinct: Twilight isn't too happy with the Dazzling being very close with Spike. She does calm down a little, but that's partially because her friends won't stop teasing her about it.
- Bite of Affection: Spike receives one of these from Adagio to indicate him as the Dazzlings' chosen mate.
- Childhood Friends: Moondancer is this with Twilight and Spike, the latter whom she has a crush on.
- Forgotten First Meeting: It's revealed early on that the Dazzlings were the three humanoid figures who saved Spike after he almost drowned seven years prior.
- Head-Turning Beauty: Adagio, Aria and Sonata are noted in-story to be very attractive. Twilight even remarks how most of the boys were drooling over them the day they transferred to their school.
- Our Cryptids Are More Mysterious: This is what kickstarts the plot; Lyra, Bonbon and Moondancer start a Cryptid Club at school and recruit Spike as a fourth member. The Dazzlings join the club shortly after.
- Our Mermaids Are Different: As mermaids, the Dazzlings usually take on human form, at least until they come into contact with water.
- Monster of the Week: Like Wildcard25's other fic, Highschool Dragon, the Cryptid Club often squares off with mythical creatures. Though, they're mostly on the Cryptid side.
- My Brother Is Off-Limits!: Again with Twilight. Averted with Moondancer though, but that's only because she's childhood friends with the Sparkle siblings.
- Tempting Fate: The morning after the Cryptid Club's first failed stakeout, Spike's friends note that at least he got to spend time with three attractive high school girls. After being told maybe he'll get lucky one day, he remarks, "That'll be the day." Seconds after, he's glomped by Adagio, Aria and Sonata.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Twilight slowly becomes this with the Dazzlings. The Dazzling themselves with Moonlight Raven and Sunshine Smiles.
