Fanfiction has a tendency to be updated like an ongoing serial work, even when it's ostensibly just one story, which naturally leads to fics getting very long indeed with time.

An unofficial listing of all fanfiction.net works in excess of 800,000 words (as of 7 November 2021) can be found here.

    open/close all folders
    Single works over 2,000,000 words
  • The Loud House: Revamped, a The Loud House Massive Multiplayer Crossover fanfic, dethroned Ambience: A Fleet Symphony to become not just FanFiction.Net's longest ongoing fanfiction, but the site's longest fanfic ever and the longest piece of literature in recorded history. It was finished in February of 2024, sitting at over 34.8 million words across 2,328 chapters. It's actually so long that it broke Fanfiction.net's word count; meaning that other methods are needed to count words, as the site can't display anything higher than 16,777,215 (the site uses 24-bit integers). For the curious: it's a self-insert fanfic wherein the protagonist joins with the Loud House to combat evil forces. Most of the text, however, is in script format and consists of one-liners and copy-pasted fan wiki entries.
  • The longest fanfic on Japanese fanfiction archive Hameln is Tensei Trouble (Link), and it stands as a reminder that absurdly long fanfics aren't limited to English: as of 20 September 2020 its length is 2985 chapters and 15,260,785 characters, making it far longer than any of the other fanfics on this page even after correcting for the difference in word density when translating from Japanese to English. The fic updates daily.
  • Harry and the Shipgirls, a Harry Potter and KanColle crossover, has well exceeded 9 million words and is updating daily. No one knows the exact length for two reasons:
    • The sites where the story is hosted, Spacebattles and Sufficient Velocity, only assign word counts to content with a threadmark attached to it, and the story has moved too quickly for the person responsible for threadmarks to keep up.
    • Each site has a number of authors who post content exclusively to that site, further complicating record-keeping.
  • As of March 2024, Future Shock - Cameron (link), a Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles fanfic, clocks in at 8,456,553 words spread out over 1,615 chapters. It is the longest fanfic hosted on Archive of Our Own.
  • As of November 2023, At the Edge of Lasg'len, a Tolkien's Legendarium fanfic, clocks in at 6,343,440 words spread out over 351 chapters and is the second longest fanfic hosted on Archive of Our Own. It helps that it's written by a couple of authors rather than just one.
  • Everything Changes (linknote ), a Formula 1 Real-Person Fic, is the third longest work on Archive of our Own, at 5,600,926 words over 505 chapters (as of January 2023), and it's still being updated.
  • Off To The Races is the fourth longest fanfic hosted on Archive of Our Own, with 5,519,825 words across 1,075 chapters as of July 2023.
  • As of November 24, 2022, counting at 5,007,400 words and updated weekly Smash Life has become the longest Super Smash Bros. fanfic, surpassing Worlds Conquest. For those who are curious: It's a documentary-style semi-reality show that deals with the life of the brawlers inside the Smash Mansion.
  • As of October 2023, The Shining Eyes (Fear of a Herobrine part 2) (link) is the fifth longest fanfic hosted on Archive of Our Own, clocking in at 4,620,924 words spread out over 792 chapters.
  • Death, a My Hero Academia fanfiction, has 4,479,292 words across 259 chapters. This makes it the third longest fanfiction on FanFiction.Net. The story grew to over 1,000,000 words within its first four months. Many of the chapters published in 2020-2021 exceeded 40,000 words each, with Chapter 233 being a whopping 152,877 words.
  • The Subspace Emissary's Worlds Conquest was for many years the longest (non-troll) fanfiction on the FanFiction.Net site, and as of 12 June 2018 contains 221 chapters consisting of 4,102,328 words. And it's not even finished—the author has been updating this fic since March of 2008, and is hoping to make it 400 chapters. The most recent chapters are roughly 40,000 words each. That's enough for them to qualify as novels on their own, at least according to The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America's criteria.
  • On 17th June 2017, Ambience: A Fleet Symphony reached 4,061,145 words, replacing The Subspace Emissary's Worlds Conquest as FanFiction.Net's longest ongoing fanfiction, and as of 24th January 2020, it is sitting at an even longer 4,102,328 words long. Having been first published on 8th May 2014, it was at one point the fastest-growing fanfiction on the site, with the author consistently putting out chapters near or exceeding 10,000 words every other day between the start of 2016 and mid-2017.
  • SAPR is a crossover between My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and RWBY that has passed 1.2 million words as of the first of January, 2020, and it continues to be updated. As of March 2024 the story has reached 3,904,406 words. The author claims that he mentally divides up sections of the fic into different books, but no such indexing exists on the chapter titles, and on the three websites it is uploaded to it only has a singular listing.
  • Hugs And Kisses (link) is a fanfic featuring Chris Jericho and Stephanie McMahon... which on 1 April 2014 quietly sneaked past Worlds Conquest when its 441st chapter took it to 3,593,793 words, making it the longest story on Fanfiction.net. It held that title for about two months before Worlds Conquest exited its hiatus. As of chapter 503 it sits at 3,865,990 words, though updates seem to have stopped. The earlier part Hugs and Kisses: The Beginning is also over a million words, with the two combined totalling just over 4.9 million.
  • CCW Character Championship Wrestling (link) is the longest Gen Fic on Archive of Our Own. As of its last update on 4 December 2017 it is 229 chapters and 3,817,471 words long.
  • With This Ring is a Young Justice self-insert fanfiction which deals with a character with significant knowledge of the DC universe who gains an Orange Power Ring. As of Aug 2021, it is over 3.6 million words long, and has been updating daily for the past several years.
  • Spirit Of Redemption has a grand total of 3,404,854 words in 162 chapters. And by the way, it's all original plot and mostly all Original Characters. There are a few other stories out there that are longer than this, but what really makes Spirit of Redemption stand out is that it was written in only 21 months whereas the other stories that break 3 million words have been ongoing for years. It's also the longest completed fanfic. The writer, Myetel, once had a job writing technical manuals for NASA. Perhaps that explains it...
  • A Certain Unknown Level 0 has reached 3,313,215 words as of March 2023, and is by far the longest A Certain Magical Index fanfiction on fanfiction.net. Spread over 176 chapters, it boasts an average count of more than 18,000 words per chapter.
    • Chapters in recent arcs rarely contain fewer than 20,000 words (and more than 30,000 on occasion), which is down in part to the author writing responses to all those who leave comments (some of them very detailed).
    • The infamously lengthy Uiharu Kazari arc alone has over 1 million words.
  • Diaries of a Madman, which as of November 2022, is over 3.2 million words, holding the title of the longest fic on FIMFiction, with no sign of slowing down anytime soon. As of March 2024, it is sitting at 3,297,561 words, the last update was in June 2023, and it has fallen to fifth longest on the site.
  • Freakin Gensokyo is a Touhou Project fanfic, which, as of March 2023, has 165 chapters consisting of 2,668,064 words. It's way more than the author expected, as he wanted to end the fanfic at either 1,000,000 words mark or 100 chapters. It is the longest Touhou Project fanfic on FanFiction.Net.
  • Senran Persona: Ninjas of Hearts, which reaches 2,650,549, is, so far, the longest Persona and Senran Kagura crossover as of November 2023 (and perhaps the longest Senran Kagura story), and is still ongoing.
  • These Black Eyes (link) in the Teen Titans (2003) section is over 2.5 million words, 272 chapters. Depending on how much of Arc III has been lost, it may have been over 3 million in its full version.
  • Of Keys And Hammers (link) is a Kingdom Hearts and Warhammer crossover that's currently over 2,476,000 words and still updating.
  • Brave New World (Pokémon) currently stands at 2,404,050 words.
  • The Chase clocks in at 2,345,261 words (contained within over 800 chapters) as of November 2016. As of March 2024 there have been no further updates.
  • A Third Path To The Future (link) a Harry Potter and Marvel crossover that clocks in at 2,287,447 words as of February 2023. It's updated regularly, still shows no sign of slowing down, and maintains a high quality.
    • Author Vimesenthusiast not only has Third Path, but also regularly updates four fanfics of over a million words, one at over three quarter of a million, and another five at over a quarter of a million. This not counting the FINISHED works.
  • Ah! My Goddess fanfic Trial by Tenderness sits at just over 2.2 million words as of December 2014 — at Harry Potter word-per-page rates, that's around 7,000 pages, and over three times the length of Atlas Shrugged. The author doesn't seem to be planning on stopping anytime soon, either.
  • Equestria Girls: Friendship Souls: A Fusion Fic between Bleach and My Little Pony: Equestria Girls. After seven years it counts 2,179,486 words (2,321,304 with a finished crossover story) and keeps being updated regularly every 2-3 weeks.
  • Songs of the Spheres is a Massive Multiplayer Crossover that was completed on April 20th, 2020 with 2,027,047 words under its belt.
  • A Spanish-language Candy♡Candy fic titled Love is a simple thing is a story that got to 254 chapters and over 2 million words... only to stop updating in February 2014.
  • The same creator of Soul Chess brought us Fairy Without Wings. While Soul Chess did not break 2,000,000 words (see below) this one did and is still ongoing.

Series of works with over 2,000,000 words total
  • The Infinite Loops as a whole falls under this, thanks to having multiple authors writing for different franchises in the universes setting and having others still contributing snips to them as well. As of putting this here, just the Friendship is Magic branch of the loops has gone for 198 chapters and 2,042,068 words. In total, the loops ranks in at +400 chapters and +5,000,000 words. It's gotten to the point where the trope page has subpages for any compilation with more than 20 chapters; The MLP Loops obviously enough, The Pokémon Loops, The RWBY Loops, The Winx Club Loops...
  • As of November 2016, all the works (including non-canon) in the Poké Wars added up to a total of 4,813,057 words.
  • Tales of The Cosmic War is a story that has three parts with a total of around 200 chapters (parts as in stories) the first one has around 1,100,000 words, the third was finished with 2,411,720 words on its own. In total, the trilogy spans 4,470,278 words.
  • The 10 core stories of BlackRoseRaven's fusion of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and Norse Mythology referred to as the Blooming Moon Chronicles or the 99 Worlds Saga total 4,440,855 words. That doesn't even count the various sequels or side stories (most of the author's other entries tie in to The 'Verse).
  • Nan the Keyblade Master's Super RWBY Universe, as of December 16, 2022, consists of twenty-nine stories, eight one-shots, one spin-off chibi story, a story that is a collection of anthology stories, two April Fools' Day one shots, a Halloween one-shot that is no longer canon, a PSA story and a what if story collection that opens up the multiverse for Super RWBY Sisters. Altogether, this brings the word count to 4,106,735 words in total, making it one of the largest crossover, multi-story universes.
  • The Austraeoh series. While each story has 200 chapters except for the last two stories which are longer, they are very short, usually no more than one or two thousand words. Still, as of March 2021, the entire nonalogy clocks in at above 3,900,000 words so far, and the author is planning on several more parts.
  • The Kismet Trilogy has only had two of the three works completed, and is already at over 3.7 million words. A Second Chance alone is the longest Harry Potter fic hosted on Archive of Our Own!
  • Shards To A Whole (link) is an NCIS fanfic centering around McGee and Abby but extended to show Team Gibbs evolving into The Gibbs Family. On December 23rd, 2017, the story was marked as complete with a word count of 2,965,445 words spread out over 609 chapters. Then, of course, there's Shards, an alternate universe story which died after 681,827 words spread out over 140 chapters; "Shards" picks up after chapter 290 of StaW and was written for readers who wanted to follow the plot beats of the main story without dealing with a primary plotline of StaW's later chapters, in which Tim and Abby McGee and Jimmy and Breena Palmer enter into a long-term four-way romantic relationship. Altogether, the stories amass a total of 3,647,272 words.
  • The longest Danganronpa fanfiction series so far is Dangan Box, which is a crossover between the franchise and Medaka Box, totaling at 3,632,056 words and still counting.
  • A Reborn! (2004) fanfic series Flames and Family by madashes2ashes is made up of four complete stories and the fifth is still ongoing. Part IV in particular contains 2,225,275 words in 161 chapters, putting it in FF.net's top 10 longest individual stories. In total, the word count for the fics goes over 3.5 million words.
  • Latias' Journey, weighs in at 1,237,300 words. Combining it with its sequel Brave New World, already mentioned above, results in a length of over 3.5 million words.
  • Undocumented Features clocks in at (as of early November 2008) approximately 20 megabytes of pure ASCII text. That's 3.5 million words long. Which actually makes it longer than the Sacrifices Arc.
  • XCOM: The Hades Contingency, as well as its two sequels (Atlas Protocol and Advent Directive) have a total word count of 2.6M words as of April 2022. If one adds The XCOM Files to that, the word count jumps up to 3.5M words.
  • The Pony POV Series. Altogether, the completed seasons and side-stories total 3,101,014 words.note  Imagine a binding of that.
    • The actual seasons can qualify. For a while, they hovered over 80,000 words, with Seasons 3 and 5 both breaking 100,000... then came Season 6. The Dark World/Shining Armor arc was a massive 825,116 word monster. Since then, seasons seem to hit this trend, with Season 5.5/6.5 hitting 174,056 words, Season 7 ending at 523,208 words, and Season 8 ending at 924,583 words.
    • Pinkie Pie's Fourth-Wall Variety Show, a non canon Pony POV series, had all its episodes collected together on FIMFiction. The end result was another 423,287 words on top of everything else.
  • Lightning on the Wave's Alternate Universe Harry Potter epic known as the Arc of Sacrifices. It's posted as 7 separate stories (mirroring the 7-book format of the HP series), so the site doesn't record the full tale's word count. This is really too bad, since it clocks in at just over 3 million words. Surprisingly enough (for a fanfic), it's actually a complete story. The author wrote it between September '05 and Jan '07, posting an average of 6400 words per day.
  • The Ben 10 RWBY series is perhaps one of the longest Crossover Fusion fics in both sections. The first volume, Dimension Twist, clocks in at 1,680,368 words, and the ongoing (as of May 2023) second volume, Ultimate Omniverse is at 892,330 words, for a total word count of 2,572,698. It's one of the longest Ben 10 and RWBY crossovers, but it then wedges in a third franchise into the mix midway with Generator Rex.
  • The second story of the Digimon series, A Sticky Situation, is called Secret of the 327th and crosses over with Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Upon completion, it turned out to be 220 chapters and 2,291,357 words. The third part sits at well over 840,000 as of August 2015. And the fourth sits at over 600,000.
  • At 2.2 million words and counting, To Be Human is a five-part Marvel Cinematic Universe fanfiction series centering around Natasha Romanoff, and it's still ongoing as of October 2020. All five installments qualify as Doorstoppers in their own right, with the incomplete fifth story clocking in at 340k, and all others clocking in north of 350k words. The third part is nearly 520k words, and the fourth part tops that at 660k words. Even more impressively, the author has proven highly prolific- the series only started in March of 2019.
  • While the Blooming Moon Chronicles are a doorstopper as a whole, two stories from the series deserve special mention: Glory Be, with 1,039,124 words, and Hecate's Orphanage, with 1,149,615. (It should be noted that these word counts are taken from the version published on Fimfiction.net. The fanfiction.net publications have a few thousand words extra.)
  • Can't Go Home Again clocked in at 636,120 words when it came to an end in May of 2016. Ever since, the Home series' three stories have blasted past the two million words milestone, sitting, as of September 8th, 2023, at a grand total of 2,156,867 words and ongoing. The third story, Going Home In A Box, is as of this writing thirty chapters away from its' planned conclusion, and a fourth story, tentatively titled The Long Road Home, is in the works.
  • Before it was rebooted, the entire Legacy of Despair note  totals over 2,019,894 words. It's more in line with the traditional killing game structure than Dangan Box, mentioned above.
  • The Flash Sentry Chronicles currently has 23 completed stories in the series, two more in progress, and the final few stories planned. The series officially passed the 2 million word mark on August 19, 2021, with 2,004,599 words!
  • Adopted Displaced series: As of January 1, 2017, the thirteen completed stories alone total 1,127,027 words. The series later passed the 2 million mark on May 19, 2017, with sixteen completed stories (1,531,578 words between them, with the four ongoing fics making up the difference). On top of that, the author's adding another 8,000 minimum every week. And there are more stories to come.
  • Child of the Storm alone ends up being over 800,000 words long, and its first sequel Ghosts of the Past was well over 1,000,000 words on its own. Add in the spinoffs Chaos Reigns and Unfinished Business, and the ongoing second sequel The Phoenix and the Serpent, and the series as a whole is well over 2,000,000 words and counting.

Single works with 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 words
  • As of January 2023 Eroninja clocks in at 103 chapters and over 2,307,000 words. The side-story Eroninja: The Limelight adds over another 174,000. Both stories are still going strong and the author intends to write at least two sequels.

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! fanfic Skin (UsagiSquared), as of March 2014, has passed 1.8 million words.
  • Traveler is a Pokémon Alternate Universe Fic and Patchwork Fic where Ash receives a male Nidoran instead of a Pikachu. As of October 2023, it has 71 chapters and is over 1.8 million words long.
  • Shantae: Clash of Arms, clocks at 1,717,929 words in 53 chapters.
  • A Thing of Vikings is a How to Train Your Dragon Alternate History fanfiction, and with 1,703,162 words as of the last chapter of Book IV, chapter 154, published on April 30, 2023, the fic is officially longer than the combined length of the seven main Harry Potter books (1,084,170); while the author has broken up the story arcs into "books", they are currently aggregated as single fanfiction and thus qualify under this category.
  • Universe Falls, as noted by the creator, is the longest Gravity Falls fanfic and the longest Steven Universe fanfic on FanFiction.Net, with 1,701,585 words (as of October 2020), and were at the beginning of Arc 9.
  • The Recursive Fanfiction Fallout: Equestria - Project Horizons has passed the original Fallout Equestria, and has been completed with over 1.7 million words. • As of November 2023, The Weaver Option clocks in at over 1.7 million words, and it's regularly updated.

  • The Halo fanfiction The Life is 230 chapters long, with 1,622,859 words in total. Word of God originally stated that the story would end at over twice its then-current length back when it was 550,000 words; it ended up being nearly triple that. As of August 2016, it remains the longest story in the Halo fanfiction.net archive.
  • An Eagle Among Lions is the longest Fire Emblem: Three Houses story on Archive of Our Own, having surpassed the million-word mark on September 13, 2021, and was finished on July 29, 2022 with over 1.6 million total words across 87 chapters.

While each chapter is a single scene, about as short as a chapter can get and still meaningfully be a chapter, this still adds up to over 1.3 million words as of November 2023.
  • Unequally Rational and Emotional certainly isn't short in the Negima section, at 1,273,186 words as of chapter 53.
  • Yet again, with a little extra help reached 1,262,281 words at its completion after approximately three years of work. This is all before the Time Skip in Naruto, incidentally, and the story continues in a sequel for Post Time-Skip. Third Fang has put up roughly 1,200,000 words in a period of 900, that is 1300 words per day, everyday. This time figure does not remove the time taken up by revisions or time spent doing other tiresome things like sleeping and eating.
  • The Undertale fanfic Tale Of The Underground (link) clocks in at 1,254,775 words spread out over 166 chapters. It's also the second longest Undertale fanfic hosted on Archive of our Own.

The word count appears differently on Fanfiction.net, because formatting purposes do not prevent author's notes from being excluded from the word counts. AO3 has a feature that allows you to place author's note at the start and or end of any chapter by toggling the option to do so, and they'll be able to be automatically excluded from the word count for the story as a whole because of this.

  • The Danganronpa fanfic Despair's Last Resort is, as of March 2019, 61 parts long and 222,807 words long including bonus chapters. What makes this impressive is how the author has been writing this since May 24, 2014 and has managed to upload around one or two chapters per week since then until the completion of the main story in January 2015. And each chapter has around 3,000 words at least. The author has said that she intends to go back and edit chapters as well, meaning even though it's finished, more could easily be added to it. And that doesn't even include the other fics in the series.
  • Yin Yang Yo! fanfic Re: Yin Yang Who? is currently eighteen chapters long with over 220,000 words in over five hundred pages and counting; even so, it hasn't been completed... yet.

  • The Red Dwarf fanfic Fifty Shades Of Smeg The original fic comes in at a decent 120,158 words making it the third-largest Red Dwarf-related fanfic on A03. It's also the first in a series which has a total word count of 184,824 words.
  • The Digimon fan fic Silent Sorrow is over 600 pages in length, or just over 180,000 words. What's truly amazing is that it has absolutely NO Filler or Padding whatsoever.
  • The Land Before Time fic Twilight Valley is a small doorstopper at 177,877 words.
  • The original version of The SuperStarr Chronicles is nearly 175,000 words long and reached over 110 chapters before the author forgot about the story, rediscovered it, and decided to remake it.

  • Rhyme and Reason, a much Darker and Edgier and more dramatic take on the premise of Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, has nine parts with multiple chapters each and 158,492 words, most of it covering less than a day. This may not sound like much, but this story was published as early as 1996. Writing took from 1993 to 1995, making it also the first CDRR fanfic that was intended as such, followed by several rounds of proof-reading before even the first part was published, so unlike today's Door Stoppers, it wasn't written and published chapter by chapter. Besides, it's formatted for the Usenet which means a maximum of 70 characters per line and therefore a whole lot of pages. Its staggering length and quality intimidated the Rangerphiles so much that it wasn't before 1997 that someone else dared to write a CDRR fanfic. Rhyme and Reason remained the longest CDRR fanfic for almost a decade until Gadget in Chains overtook it.
  • The Dreamland Story. It's 87 (gradually-increasing-in-length) chapters, and 140,168 words long, made even crazier by the fact that it's a Kirby fanfic. (And it works!)
  • The rewrite of Kirby of the Stars: The After Story has 138,137 words as of October 2nd, 2018 - and that's just the first ten chapters of the first of many story arcs that the author has planned. Its previous "beta" version ran for 57 chapters and 230,080 words.
  • The Batman fanfic Dance with the Demons sits at 134,065 words spread over 23 chapters.
  • The Team Fortress 2 fanfic Retired Mercenaries' Home Owner's Association (link) clocks in at 124,219 words spread out over 25 chapters.
  • Monster Chronicles Voodoo's Disciple is over 120,000 words long.
  • Total Drama Island by Gilbert and Sullivan is a borderline case. Although it's "only" about 120,000 words including the supplemental materials, the PDF version clocks in at right around 500 pages because so much of its content is poetry (song lyrics) which is notorious for using page space inefficiently. The 700 Total Drama Island screenshots put a good percentage of that white space to use, though.
  • A Prize for Three Empires, a fanfiction starring Carol Danvers, is twenty-nine chapters long with 118,387 words.
  • The Regular Show fanfic Regular Show: August sits at 108,281 words spread out over twenty-two chapters.
  • Fractured, a Mass Effect/Star Wars/Borderlands crossover is "only" 100,000 words—but the sequel goes nuts being over four times longer and not even finished yet!

    Unsorted
  • From Fake Dreams — a Fate/stay night Alternate Universe Fic written by Third Fang, author of the incredibly long Yet again, with a little extra help.
  • God Slaying Blade Works— A Fate/stay night/Campione! crossover written by Marcus Galen Sands, where Shirou and Illya survive the Normal ending of The Heaven's Feel route via Dimension hopping and God magic.
  • The released chapters of Misfiled Dreams run 729 pages, including 2 blank pages in the first chapter and 7 pages of art. The unreleased (and unedited) chapters run another 324 pages.
  • Rhyme and Reason was not only the first fanfic based on Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers and has always been considered one of the best, but with 158,492 words, it also used to be the longest and definitely considered a Doorstopper. But then, after seven years of on-and-off work, Gadget in Chains was completed. It stands at 402,670 words.
    • The Russian original of Offensive Care has 176,362 words. The author's own English translation grew slightly beyond 200,000 words.
  • Super Mario World (Max Landis) is a 436-page movie script that would be 7 hours long if it were made, with almost every Mario character having a supporting role, character arcs, and being name-dropped at least once.
  • Teaching Darkness: Memories by Rae Logan, is over 206,000 words, and itself is PART 5 in a series, with the previous story at only a little over 52,000 (at least a quarter of its sequel's size!) and the currently in progress part 6 at over 137,000 as of January 27th, 2012. The fanfic series itself has side stories (for ideas decidedly too short compared to the main stories to focus a multi chapter story around, regarded as a different canon, except maybe the Twilight Zone-esque one), about seven posted scraped unfinished stories (released as Deleted Scenes), and several fan written stories, which, if compiled into one volume would be considered a Doorstopper. Sometimes jokingly referred to THE Largest Fanfic Series Centered Around A Scrapped Character In A Game That Never Happened. Who? Mephiles the Dark from Sonic '06... VERY loosely.
  • Thawing Permafrost is by no means a titan like the rest on this list, but it still qualifies as a door-stopper and the longest Mizore-centric fic in the Rosario + Vampire category (35 chapters across 518 pages, according to the author.)
    • Here In My Arms is at least two and a half times as long, in the same fandom.
  • Rytex's My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic series centering on Nova Shine and Twilight Sparkle.
    • The Apprentice, the Student, and the Charlatan clocks in at over 382,000 after undergoing an extensive rewrite of the first 14 chapters, plus some additions. Its original complete version finished at 242,811. Even as far as single chapters go, Chapter 17 ("Nightfall") is over 25,000 words long, and the rewrite of Chapter 12 got to 28,000 before it was split into two parts.
    • Its original sequel, Even In Other Worlds, is sitting at just over 200,000 words, however just under 40,000 words of it are April Fools' Day chapter updates (including one update that is all 22k+ words of My Immortal).
    • The new sequel, The Archmage's Last Bow, is a little over 150,000 words long at ten chapters into the story.
  • The End of Ponies, a My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fanfic, is already longer than the entire The Lord of the Rings trilogy. And it's not even finished yet.
  • The Mobius Chronicles is currently two-and-a-half books and over 1,000 pages long, and the author reckons he has "multiple books" left to go.
  • The Unity Saga, a Star Wars/Star Trek crossover that runs a total of 250 chapters. Most of the chapters have a manageable size, but the final entries in each of the six parts suddenly balloon to a very intimidating length.
  • While the first Volume of TSA: The Amazing Spider-Man is only 50,000 words long, Volume 2 is 1,296,006 words long, and Volume 3 is 146,806 words long and seventeen chapters in and not yet finished. The story will continue with Volumes 4 and 5, so it will likely reach two million words. Justified as it is a complete retelling of Spider-Man, which has 60 years of storylines to draw from.
    • Also worth noting is that the author typically updates once a week, with most chapters going over 10,000 words.
  • The Whisper of the Heart trilogy by Saddletank can almost fill a large sized binder when printed out using the default formatting.
