Mystery: (whinnies)
SpongeBob SquarePants, with a good chunk of the crew coming from Rocko's Modern Life, is well-known for appealing to both children and adults... and sometimes forgetting that there are children watching.
Season 1
- In "Pickles", when Mr. Krabs walks into SpongeBob's house and finds him, SpongeBob is wearing a pair of underwear over his head. Due to the way his nose looks, it resembles an erection.
- In "Texas", SpongeBob tells Patrick that his genius is showing. Patrick's first reaction is to cover up his crotch and say, "Where?!"
Season 2
- At the beginning of the episode "Your Shoe's Untied", SpongeBob is watching a TV show with a live-action orange sea anemone gyrating to energetic go-go dancer-style music, which he finds "entertaining" (leaning forward eagerly in his seat at one point). Suddenly, Gary walks in on SB, who panics and changes the channel to a football game, unconvincingly stammering, "I-I-I-I was just looking for the sports channel, Gary..."
- "Gary Takes a Bath" has two such scenes, which both contributed to the episode being banned in the UK for several years:
- One particularly infamous example is the scene where SpongeBob shows Gary some doubloons (two bars of soap) and tells Gary not to drop them.
- Another scene has SpongeBob intentionally strap a bomb to himself in a desperate attempt to get Gary to take a bath.SpongeBob: GARY! THERE'S A BOMB STRAPPED TO MY CHEST! IT'S GONNA EXPLODE IN THREE SECONDS UNLESS YOU TAKE A BATH! (Gary doesn't move an inch, clearly unfazed and unamused) ...Pleeaase? (explosion)
Season 3
- "My Pretty Seahorse" has a scene where Scooter sees Mystery parked in front of the Krusty Krab and mistakes her for a coin-operated ride. He then finds the "coin slot".
- "Party Pooper Pants": When SpongeBob accidentally gets his fingers chopped off and starts screaming, Larry overhears the screaming and says, "Hey, this party's finally starting to pick up!"
- "Mid Life Crustacean" (pictured above) infamously involved a panty raid, which eventually got the episode pulled from episode rotation.
Season 4
- In "Dunces and Dragons", there is a guard that tells SpongeBob "right this way". SpongeBob repeats it back to him in Ye Olde Butchered English. The guard responds by putting his spear against his own throat, then sighing and saying "someday, but not today".
- In "Squidtastic Voyage", Squidward accidentally swallows his clarinet. SpongeBob tries to help him and we get a shot of a mother and son walking past Squidward's house. All you can hear are sounds of SpongeBob grunting and Squidward making choking noises, and the mother covers her son's ears and looks disgusted.
Season 5
- In "20,000 Patties Under the Sea":SpongeBob: Bye, Squidward! Bye, Mr. Krabs! (seductively) Bye, Squidward.
Patrick: You said 'Bye, Squidward' twice.
SpongeBob: (remaining somewhat seductive) I like Squidward. - In "The Two Faces of Squidward", Squidward gets hit on to the point where it becomes stalking and harassment because he's handsome. Mr. Krabs attempts to objectify him for profit.Mr. Krabs: Don't worry, folks! There's plenty of Squidward to go around! For a small fee of $14.98 per person, everyone will get the opportunity to touch Squidward!
Season 7
- In "Stuck in the Wringer", SpongeBob drops his bar of soap and screams as it slowly falls to the floor.
Season 8
- In "Mermaid Man Begins", Mermaid Man dials a payphone and asks, "So, what are you wearing?"
- In "Are You Happy Now?", a terminally depressed Squidward sticks his head in the oven.... only to pull out some brownies. Only moments later, he hangs a rope... only to reveal it's tied to a scallop in a cage. To further hammer the point home, he says things along the lines of "I hope this will make me happy" immediately before doing them.
Season 9
- "Goodbye, Krabby Patty?" has a scene where the now-famous Patrick is handing out autographs, including to a woman who isn't holding any paper. The kicker? We actually see him signing her chest.
Season 11
- "ChefBob":
- This bit. Dear Lord Almighty...ChefBob: Get a load of him, folks! He must've been born on a highway, because that's where most accidents happen!
- Towards the end of the episode, when puppet Squidward throws ChefBob out, he says "Let me help you slip into something more comfortable... like the gutter!"
- This bit. Dear Lord Almighty...
Season 12
- In "SpongeBob in RandomLand", one of the doors Squidward opens shows this image as a Shout-Out to the infamous creepypasta Squidward's Suicide. However, Nickelodeon eventually caught on and replaced it with an image of Squidward as a baby.
Movies
- The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run: The entire "Livin' la Vida Loca" scene has SpongeBob and Patrick gambling on-screen, capped off with SpongeBob saying that he lost all his money.
