A sketch for a logo.

Section 187 is a concept of a series of gang-themed First-Person Shooters envisioned some time between 2014 and 2015 by Izaiah Salter.

It's set in an alternate 2007 where America has just about collapsed to a failed prototype fuel known as "Milomium", with the rest of the world following suit with the efforts of an overzealous Animal Wrongs Group. You take control of a gang member and expand your gang's territory. How you go about it and deal with the residents of that neighborhood is up to you.

Progess for this concept has been kinda slow. I hope, one day, to bring this game into fruition.

This concept contains examples of:

  • Black and Gray Morality - Unsurprisingly. Section 187 and the Rollin' 7s, the Fanzui Family, Commonwealth Syndicate and Fourth Reich are on the gray end of the spectrum, while the Brotherhood of Allah and Vlada's Detractors are firmly on the Black end.
  • Concealment Equals Cover - Not quite. Though sandbags, concrete walls and engine blocks make for decent cover, you'd wanna stay clear of drywall, furniture and thin sheets of metal or wood. You'd also want to consider what guns your adversaries are using.
  • Daylight Horror - The 2003 Compton Massacre; a terrorist attack carried out by the Brotherhood of Allah that left thousands dead and hundreds injured.
  • Even Evil Has Standards - In spite of their brutality and biases, Section 187 and the Rollin' 7s both despise terrorist organizations.
    • Speaking of terrorists, Al-Qaeda, of all people, had denounced the Brotherhood of Allah after the 2003 Compton Massacre. And, after the 2003 Campbell Center Shooting, sent a message to American media outlets just to tell the Brotherhood that they will NOT have Al-Qaeda's support.

  • Evil Is Petty - Ever wonder why the Brotherhood of Allah hates blacks and you never see black members? Put bluntly, the Brotherhood essentially threw a fit after being called out by Section 187 and the Rollin' 7s. As such, they kicked out/killed its black members, barred African-Americans from joining and began targeting black communities in response, with the 2003 Compton Massacre being one of their worst attacks.
  • Germanic Efficiency - As part of their schtick, the Fourth Reich only carry German or Austrian guns and drive in German cars. It should also be noted that they avoid using shotguns if possible.
  • Humans Are Bastards - Not hard to see why.
  • Political Correctness Gone Mad - The Unity Crew were a radical progressive group that went to painstaking lengths to have their members be some sort of minority and threatened anything they deemed to be offensive with violence. Because of their unpopularity with the general public, especially left-wingers, they barely lasted a year. It didn't help that they were focused on having every minority under the sun, to the point of turing down majorities (and even minorities) with training and combat experience that could've been passed onto UC's members to make them better fighters.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain - Just about every major faction is bigoted, to some extent and in some fashion.
    • Section 187 has strong anti-Commonwealth sentiments. The SCLA sets, in particular, are also Islamophobic.
    • The Rollin' 7s are little different to Section 187. Just replace "anti-Commonwealth sentiments" with "anti-white views" and throw in some misogyny and homophobia. They also despise the Hispanic gangs.
    • The Latin Kings see no problem with killing black civilians unprovoked, and are in a race war with Section 187 and the Rollin' 7s in SCLA.
    • The Fanzui Family frequently go to war against the Jewish Mob. It should be noted that Vlada Fanzui demands her gang not to do so, to no avail.
    • The Fourth Reich openly sport swastikas and, though not the most bigoted, are all-encompassing in their bigotries.
    • The Peacekeepers have anti-minority biases and hate working with people on the autism spectrum.
    • The Blessed Coalition is comparable to the Brotherhood of Allah, while also violently opposing any religion/beliefs that aren't Christianity, Catholicism or some variation thereof. Atheism and agnosticism included.
    • The Brotherhood of Allah takes the homophobia and misogyny of the Rollin' 7s, the antisemitism of the Fanzui Family, throws in some anti-black hatred and general xenophobia, and amplifies their prejudices to levels that even the likes of The Klan and the Westboro Baptist Church would find excessive.
    • Despite the above, the Unity Crew had a nasty habit of harassing autistic people.
  • Resignations Not Accepted - Subverted with the titular gang. They have their own resignation forms with conditions for leavingnote  and a "gang disassociation tax" that can range between $100 to $5,000, depending on the member's rank, standing, and whether or not they're making a family. Signing the form permanently bars former members from rejoining.
  • Ruthless Foreign Gangsters - The Commonwealth Syndicate is composed of Australians, Brits, Canadians, and New Zealanders.
    • It used to have South African members, but after South Africa left the British Commonwealth, they were no longer welcome.
    • Canadian members also find themselves at odds with the rest of ComSyn, as the former is disliked for being too similar to Americans.
  • Shotguns Are Just Better - Zig-zagged. Though they avert Short-Range Shotgun, have decent accuracy and make short work of unarmored targets, buckshot is ineffective against even low-tier armor, they're a pain to reload (especially break-action shotguns), semi-auto shotguns are finicky about certain loads and magazine-fed shotguns are unreliable.
  • Villain Protagonist - No matter who you side with, you'll align yourself with dubious to outright evil figures.
  • Western Terrorists - Even though the Brotherhood of Allah style themselves after Jihadi groups, they have no presence in Middle Eastern countries. In fact, they were established in America.
