  • Alas, Poor Villain:
    • It's pointed out how much Chadwick suffered under Elrik's influence and how he wasn't a bad person.
    • Henry is surprisingly sympathetic towards Eric, mostly due to him seeing a bit of himself in him and because he sees how he could have been a great king if not for Elrik's manipulation.
  • An Arm and a Leg: When Arthur gets into a fight with Rachel and she catches him by surprise, causing an explosion that destroys his leg. He's forced to amputate it and replace it with a robotic leg.
  • Ancient Evil: Elrik is over a billion years old and his unchecked ambition and ego caused the world he lived in to break into the four dimensions.
  • Advertisement:
  • Action Girl: Vanessa, Angelica (eventually), and Heather.
  • An Ice Person: Jack has ice powers.
  • Anti-Hero: Angelica, Arthur, and Vanessa are this in different ways.
    • Angelica is a Classical Anti-Hero who's inexperienced, clumsy, and unsure of her ability and is the least emotionally stable. Despite this she's the smartest of the group and has a lot of potential.
    • Arthur is a Disney Anti Hero who is snarky, rude, prideful, and lets his Attention Whore tendencies get in the way of getting things done but has a moral compass and is willing to compromise for the greater good.
    • Vanessa is a Downplayed Disney Anti Hero who is temperamental, violent, and takes matters into her own hands often but is still friendly, and wants to protect others.
  • Arch-Enemy:
    • Rachel and Arthur grow to hate each other and fights between them are usually paired with insults. This becomes worse when Rachel injures Arthur's leg beyond repair.
    • Advertisement:
    • Angelica and her father Nicholas due to him being abusive towards her in the past, forcing her to run away. She also hates him for forcing her brother to do his dirty work and for killing her cousin and adoptive father. He specifically tries to hurt he because he sees her running away as an insult to his authority.
    • Vanessa and Jack grow to hate each other due to Vanessa scaring his face when she destroyed his motorcycle and due to Jack hurting people in Vanessa's neighborhood.
    • Seth hates Peter for betraying him and killing some of his men.
  • Archnemesis Dad: Nicholas is revealed to be Angelica's abusive father.
  • Asshole Victim:
    • Mr. Helm's death at Rachel's hand is brutal but he's also a world class Jerkass who killed people indiscriminately for no reason.
    • Jack's near death beating is horrible but he's also one of the nastiest characters in the comic.
  • Asskicking Equals Authority: Jack is the leader of his gang because he's the most dangerous person in the gang, earning him respect from some and fear from anybody who would ever think of challenging him.

  • Central Theme: The story is built around reconciling the past and present and to grow beyond one's past if needed. The heroes have been shaped by their pasts and are trying to break away from the worse aspects of their lives while the villains either brush off their pasts and don't learn from them or are trying to metaphorically go back to the past.
  • The Chains of Commanding: Henry constantly puts on a confident face in front of the group because he know that they look up to him and thinks that they will be less effective if they lack confidence in him.
  • Co-Dragons: Nicholas Winter, Maria Vu, and Eric Tudor are Chadwick's agents in each dimension.

    • Chadwick himself has Hector and Rachel in his dimension.

He then uses the portal to project an intangible version of himself that he uses to convince the other three main villains to work with Chadwick. He plays on Nicholas' desire for control, Maria's hatred of non powered people, and Eric's desire to be seen as a great king.

    • Maria never takes a direct part in her plans, and is willing to throw anybody she can under the bus to save herself.

  • The Dragon:
    • Nicholas has his son Benjamin as his primary agent.
    • Maria has Clara who relays information to her allies.
  • The Dreaded: The fact thatArthur is uneasy with the idea of fighting Rachel is a good example of just how much people fear Rachel.
  • Dream Team / Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Zigzagged between the two, individually they're all very skilled, being one of if not the best in their respective fields, but as a group they're dysfunctional and unorganized. They frequently butt heads and struggle as a result. Eventually they learn how to work as a team and become a true Dream Team.
  • Entitled Bastard: Nicholas thinks that he deserves to be king of Elelith and that he is the best ruler it could ever have.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones:
    • Chadwick is shown to miss his brother who helped create the dimension portal and went missing during the first test. It turns out that Elrik, who had inserted a part of himself in Chadwick's brain, used to corrupt him into playing into his plan to become a god.
    • Benjamin, cares deeply for his sister Angelica and is initially reluctant to fight her, however his fear of Nicholas' wrath wins out and he becomes a dangerous foe of hers.
  • Evil Counterpart:
    • Peter is this to both Henry and his Co Dragon Noah. He's loyal only to the highest payer and doesn't care at all about anybody but himself. In contrast Henry and Noah are very loyal to the people of Bradcote and Eric respectively and care about their men.
    • Eric to a lesser extent is one to Henry. Both desire to live up to their Famous Ancestors, but Henry wants to be a champion of the people like his great grandfather, and Eric wants to expand his kingdom by any means possible, believing that history will paint him as a great king despite his apathy towards his people. Eric also has a false view of what makes a good king similar to Henry's unrealistic expectations for himself as a leader.
    • Benjamin is one to Angelica. While Angelica is neurotic, clumsy, and introverted despite caring about others. Benjamin is very level headed, very skilled, and sociable despite not caring about many of his 'friends'. • Arthur's pride and showboating cause him a lot of trouble. He refuses to listen to Henry's plans and his desire to be in the spotlight causes him to take unnecessary risks.
    • Vanessa's temper and her resulting impulsiveness. This causes her to go against the plan many times, and to loose control and lash out at the others.
    • Henry holds himself to an unrealistic standard as a leader, causing him to hide his emotions in front of the others because he thinks that showing weakness will make the others stop respecting him.
    • Angelica's inability to work well under pressure and difficulties with processing her failure. This causes her to fail the group on multiple occasions and develop a sense of self loathing.
  • Fighting the Lancer: Henry and Arthur come to blows once early on, and are on the brink of fighting multiple times elsewhere.
  • Fragile Speedster: Arthur moves quickly but can't take a hit.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Jack is friendly with people and refers to his enemies with terms of endearment.

  • Knight of Cerebus: The four main villains are typically only present at more serious scenes.
  • The Lancer: Arthur frequently butts heads with Henry and disrespects him. This eventually evolves into them being Vitriolic Best Buds who look to each other for advice more than the others.
