Darth Wiki / Healthy Dose Of Deceit

Go To

Danganronpa: Healthy Dose of Deceit is a Discord-based roleplay group. The story follows a group of 20 Ultimates who wish to be rid of their talents for one reason or another. While each patient has their own motivation for choosing to have their talent removed, one person has entirely different plans. With the sudden appearance of the two "caretakers" of Black Star Medical Hospital, Mono-Neko and Mono-Inu, a new killing game begins.

Currently, the roleplay is still underway as of 4/12/2018.

     Tropes A-M
  • Abandoned Hospital Awakening: All the characters wake up in Black Star Medical, believing they are here to undergo an operation that will remove their talent. However, the hospital has been abandoned by any and all staff besides the strange caretakers, alongside having no patients other than the Ultimates.
  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Mono-Neko, Mono-Inu, Mono-Hiru, and the Dream Animals are all decorated with vibrant colors. Too bad a good chunk of them are evil.
  • Anyone Can Die: A staple behind any good DR roleplay. Anyone can and probably will die.
  • Bio-Augmentation: There is a list of surgeries that the patients can take while in the killing game. One of which allows the patient to telepathically send a single, droning note into the mind of another patient. Another surgery gives you thermal vision. The most bizzare surgery of them all is to turn the patient into their "spirit animal".
  • Dwindling Party: Character deaths are well-spaced, with two to three a chapter. Like in the trope’s concept, this will likely eventually lead to a confrontation with the mastermind. However, it’s also applicable that some of the characters killed off were not so well developed due to their short ’screentime’, so to say.
  • Everyone Is a Suspect: Par for the course for Danganronpa.
  • Exact Words: A favorite of the moderators.
    • "Truth Bullet: Tiara and Yoshi have been fed."
    • "Eating is just consensual food sex." - Mono-Neko
  • Head-Tiltingly Kinky: A sizable portion of the cast is particularly interested in... romance.
  • Killed Off for Real: While this the expected fate for a failed murderer, the Moderator team has made it clear multiple times that there are no do-overs.

     Tropes N-Z
  • Ontological Mystery
  • Running Gag: The cast immediately identifies the murderer, then talks themselves out of it, before returning with confidence to the correct answer hours later. Four trials and counting.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: A handful of the patients tend to set poor examples like when Keiko slam dunked a baby into a pool or when Akeno poisoned himself because Keiko did it, too. Or that one time Amaro threatened Yoshimitsu while the latter was armed with a gun.

    Female Characters

Natsumi Adachi

Ultimate Mechanist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/natsumemee.png
  • Fetishized Abuser: To Tadashi.
  • Psycho Lesbian: Natsumi could be seen hanging out with Tadashi Kimura during the first chapters. Though Tadashi wasn't really hanging out by her own with her, Natsumi always took her to wherever she wanted, she did ask sometimes to Tadashi, but the girl barely talked and Natsumi would already take her to where her heart desired.
    • Natsumi could be also seen calling Tadashi 'babe' or 'baby' a lot. Which sounded creepy for some of the others hospital residents.
    • Natsumi also didn't want anyone interfering in their relationship.
  • Too Hot for TV: Despite being notably shy and depressed, Natsumi actively took advantage of two participants, Tadashi and Keiko, one of whom was under the influence of drugs.
  • The Unfettered: Natsumi did not have any remorse for killing Kodanji and his brother Liyori. The only thing she wanted was Tadashi to be safe, even though she would be the only one to survive if she'd succeeded in winning the second chapter.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Natsumi really didn't want anyone interfering in her relationship with Tadashi. She even killed someone so Tadashi wouldn't have to suffer from these tortures anymore, though Tadashi said she didn't want any of that.

Keiko Akiyama

Ultimate Composer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/keikocomposer.png
  • Chekhov's Gag: Throughout the killing game, Keiko has been branded a furry and Mono-Inu's bitch, forced to wear a dog suit for a good part of the first two chapters. Imagine her surprise when Keiko ends up transforming into an anthropomorphic dog, thus giving her fur and counteracting the Chapter 4 Cold Motive. It also in part caused Waltz to transform into a squid.
  • Don't Touch It, You Idiot!: Keiko really liked tampering with things she shouldn't have. For example, she put a death ring on her, not even thinking about it. Putting a bracelet that could kill with you poison that you've already seen.
  • Pop-Star Composer: Keiko Akiyama is the Ultimate Composer. She has gained fame worldwide for her songs. Her songs are instrumental, usually played on the piano or violin, with no singing. She comes from a rich family where she was first taught music. She has a large family, though she is the only one with talent in it.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: To Ringo in the fifth trial.
  • Who Would Be Stupid Enough?: Keiko has shown time and time again to be not only oblivious to her surroundings and the people around her, but has also made increasingly bad choices as the game progressed. Examples include actively throwing a flour baby into a pool, putting on clothing that would kill her if she stepped out of line, and poisoning herself with a previous motive that left her comatose for three days.

Ruka Ikari (real name: Yuna Tanaka)

Ultimate Maid

  • Hyper-Competent Sidekick: Towards her former employer's other head maids.
  • Ninja Maid: Proficient in combat. Put to use when she sneaks up on Kyomou.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: Ruka, even being shy and timid, could kill someone like Kyomou, who was supposedly a traitor.
  • Stutter Stop: Ruka is really shy and timid to other people, so she often stutters when trying to speak with the others.

Tadashi Kimura

Ultimate Improvisor

  • Abusive Parents: Tadashi's father.
  • Aren't You Going to Ravish Me?: Tadashi's idea of a consensual relationship.
  • Driven to Suicide: Zig-zagged. While Tadashi does make several attempts on her own life during the story, the rest of the cast is pretty good about taking care of her. During the fourth trial, it is implied that Tadashi's death was ambiguous enough to be deemed a suicide by Mono-Neko and Mono-Inu, but the cast rejects the possibility in favor of condemning Tatsuya for creating the situation in the first place.
  • Never Learned to Read

Ayuna Naruki

Ultimate Plushie Artist

  • Animal Motifs: Draws the cast as animals. For example, Ayuna draws Keiko as a coyote and Waltz as a squid. She draws herself as a rabbit.
  • How Dare You Die on Me!: Ayuna to both Tadashi in Chapter 4 and Akeno in Chapter 5. Ironically, Ayuna gave pep talks to both of them just before they died.
  • Lonely Doll Girl: Ayuna at the beginning of the game. It was only after her life became linked with Ringo's in Chapter 2 that she started to break out of her shell.
  • Bag of Holding: Since the start of the game, Ayuna has carried around a large, yellow messenger bag which she can store any items in. And she picks up a LOT of items. While it is not technically a magic bag of holding, it’s gameplay functionality means it might as well be.

Mikayla Parker

Ultimate Logician

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mikayla_parker_by_gastlu.png
  • Being Human Sucks: Mikayla is openly expressive about how she hates humans and hates being one.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Her execution in Chapter 3 involves her racing against the clock through a series of coloured rooms, only to run out of time and have the rooms crush her inside them, literally squishing her inside a Rubiks Cube.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Prone to this.
  • Misanthrope Supreme: Mikayla in a nutshell.
  • Rei Ayanami Expy: Cynical, mysterious, and has white-tipped hair.
  • Bolt of Divine Retribution: Mikayla actively taunted Mono-Neko before she was to go in for torture in Chapter 2. It ended with her losing her right hand, her left ear, and was injected with drugs that made her hallucinate.

Ringo Ririka

Ultimate Jeweler

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rings4.png
  • If It's You, It's OK: Ringo to Ayuna. She has openly expressed interest in starting a family with Ayuna, but is not interested in any other women.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Likes to give these out at Class Trials. Inverted during the Fifth Trial by Keiko.

Tiara Rodriguez

Ultimate Researcher

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aaaa_9.png
  • Damsel in Distress: Tiara twice. First when Ahi hits her with a sandbag hard enough to comatose her for nearly all of Chapter 4 and then when she gets stuck in a ventilation shaft by the mastermind.
  • Forbidden Fruit: After breaking into an air-vent passage, during the fifth chapter, Tiara received a note from the Mastermind warning her against entering it again. The air-vents were reinforced and strengthened. Tiara immediately decided to break in a second time.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: With Yoshimitsu.
  • Reckless Gun Usage: This tends to happen when your boyfriend is essentially a gangster who doesn't give you safety instruction. Akeno suffered.

Akira Tsuji

Ultimate Savior

  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: Akira at the beginning of the game. She hardly came out of her room and stockpiled food so she wouldn't have to go outside. Akira overcame her shyness when forced into a relationship in Chapter 2 when she received a Friendship Bracelet that tied her life with Neon.

Waltz

Ultimate Chemist

  • Worthless Yellow Rocks: Threw a book not-so-accidentally into a safe and ended up locking it inside without knowing the code to get it back because she just wasn't interested in it. Turns out that book is crucial to finding out who the mastermind is.

Neon Yurika

Ultimate ??? (real talent: "Ultimate Innovator")

  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Neon is unable to remember her true talent when she wakes up with the rest of the group on the first day. She later reveals herself to be the Ultimate Innovator.

    Male Characters

Yoshimitsu Borakara

Ultimate Dealer (real talent: Ultimate Contraband Dealer)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yoshidealer.png
  • Dumb Muscle: Played with. Yoshimitsu isn't unintelligent, but his hick accent and lack of a formal education occasionally lead to this treatment from other characters.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: With Tiara.
  • Running Gag: Yoshimitsu's name. Almost every single character has said his name wrong one way or another. Even the name plate by his door spells his name "Borakora."

Amaro Devlin

Ultimate Unlucky Student (real talent: Ultimate Arsonist)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amaro_1.png
  • Bullying a Dragon: Amaro continued to taunt and threaten Yoshimitsu, even after he had a gun pointed at him and was almost hit with a bullet.
  • Kill It with Fire: Amaro's initial reaction to most dangers.
  • Pyromaniac: Amaro's true talent.

Ahi Heichi

Ultimate Guitarist

  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Due to inactivity from the player, Ahi Heichi never really had a chance in the spotlight.

Jynn Keiru

Ultimate Party Host

Kodanji Randayana

Ultimate Blacksmith

  • Half-Identical Twins: With Liyori. Kodanji has blue hair while Liyori has red hair.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Due to the player not knowing their character properly, Kodanji spent the majority of his time in his room. He was eventually killed off in Chapter 2 by Natsumi.

Liyori Randayana

Ultimate Glassmith

  • Driven to Suicide: Liyori cut his wrist during Chapter 2 because he physically and emotionally tortured.
  • Half-Identical Twins: With Kodanji. Liyori has red hair while Kodanji has blue hair.
  • Love at First Sight: With Jynn.
  • Perfect Poison: During chapter 2 the caretakers gave bracelets to all of the patients and paired them in two. It turned out if your partner died, you would die too. Later that happened with Liyori. Kodanji got murdered by Natsumi; so he was poisoned by the bracelet; that resulted in him in being killed by the poison in a short amount of time.
  • Fiery Redhead: Subverted with Liyori. Liyori is naturally very calm as opposed to his short-tempered brother.

Tatsuya Kosuke

Ultimate Dramatist

  • Axe-Crazy: Openly admitted to using his own blood as a prop when performing his plays during the Secret Sharing Session. Was actively excited by the prospect of the trials and was almost elated when he was executed for killing Tadashi in Chapter 4.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Due to Tatsuya rarely making an appearance, most of his interactions with the cast come off as this.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Due to real-life issues popping up just at the roleplay started, Tatsuya's player was unavailable for most of the game.

Kyomou Torimaku

Ultimate Skeptic

Akeno Wakabayashi

Ultimate Microbiologist (real talent: Ultimate Parasitologist)

  • Adventures In Coma Land: This is what happens when inject deadly poison into your body.
  • Bury Your Gays: Neither Akeno nor Jynn are given a 'happy' ending, with Jynn falling to Mikayla's plan in chapter 3 and Akeno dying in chapter 5.
  • Butt-Monkey: Shot by Tiara, foolishly poisoned by his own curiosity, fell into a coma, woke up having forgot everything, and then was almost immediately killed for his troubles. And that's just Chapter 5.
  • Forgets to Eat: Frequently forgets to eat, and often has to be reminded to do so by other patients.
  • Have I Mentioned I Am Gay?: Whenever he's with Jynn. Even after Jynn is killed by Ahi in Chapter 3, Akeno still professes his undying love to Jynn.
  • The Cutie
  • The Twink

    Other Hospital Residents and Characters

"Helicopter-Kun"

Yasuhiro Hagakure, the Ultimate Clairvoyant

  • Hostage Situation: It is heavily implied that the helicopter pilot has been taken hostage.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: In the middle of the Chapter 2 trial, a helicopter pilot was supposedly taken hostage by the mastermind. They have not been heard from since.

Mono-Neko

Game Mascot & Hospital Caretaker

  • Too Kinky to Torture: Mono-Neko is a huge masochist. There's even a section in the rules that says that physically abusing Neko is allowed and respected.

Mono-Inu

Game Mascot & Hospital Caretaker

  • Beyond the Impossible: After a particularly stressful day, Mono-Inu went for a run in the Fitness Center...on a 90 degree angle incline.
  • Heroic BSoD: A literal one after Akeno dies.

Mystic Deer

Dream Animal

  • Tropes Go Here: make sure to alphabetize them, though you can just do that at the end. also, just copy and paste all this if you need multiple characters!

Mono-Hiru

Game Mascot

The Mastermind

Ultimate ???

Other Teenagers

20 Missing Patients

  • Legally Dead: All 20 teenagers who seem to own the Talent Labs in the hospital's basement are notably absent and only pictures of them remain. It is believed that they were forced to take part in a killing game before the events of H Do D.
    • With the opening of the Cold Storage Lab, we have more concrete information. One of them is supposedly dead and another has gone missing.
