Finding Magic is the first book part of the Tales Of Two Worlds. It was written during the National Novel Writing Month 2018.
The story follows a young human girl called Runa and her partner Laith. When Laith receives a cryptic letter from his grandfather about the latter needing help, they decide to leave their home village. In the company of the unicorn Falfain and the dog pup Fana, they set out to find Laith's grandfather and understand what, exactly, is happening. On the way, they find a stranded demon called Ephraim, who tags along at Runa's insistence.
Tropes used in the Tales of Two Worlds:
- A Boy and His X: "A girl and her unicorn" and "A girl and her dog".
- Ambiguously Bi: While Word of God would readily tell you that Laith is bi, Runa is pan, and Ephraim does not get angelic gender conventions, due to Laith and Runa being in a relationship with one another it's not very noticeable.
- Battle Couple: Downplayed with Laith and Runa. They do fight if they have to, but both prefer other solutions.
- Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: Inverted. Laith is a mage and doesn't do well with swords, Runa learned how to use a rapier.
- Interspecies Friendship: Lots of them within the group. The sapient people include two humans, one demon, and one unicorn, who all love and are loved by the dog.
