Darth Wiki / Despair And Chains Prison Fiasco

Go To

''Hope's Prison... the facility where teenage criminals are given a second chance at living! It was a prison made specifically by the prestigious Hope's Peak Academy—the school where only the best of the best were invited—who had wanted to promise a better future for their criminal students, after the crimes committed by these kids had started to drag the school's reputation down. They would hopefully reform these children, so that they could grow up to become the talented adults they were destined to be. This would obviously be the better option than jail or juvenile.

...Right?''

— Premise of the roleplay.

Despair and Chains: Prison Fiasco is a Discord based roleplay inspired by the Danganronpa series, hosted by users Erica and Middy. The premise revolves around a group of Ultimates who have committed crimes getting locked up and being forced to participate in a killing game. The trailer can be found here.

It is the sequel of a previous rp called Rejects Removal. Rejects Removal can be found here and Despair and Chains can be found here. Both link to their respective discords.

Despair and Chains: Prison Fiasco is a roleplay with multiple characters.

    Current Students

Burn Helvitia

Played by: Astron

Bernard "Burn" Helvitia is the Ultimate Street Soldier.

  • The Big Guy: At 6'11, Burn is the second tallest member of the cast, as well as one of the strongest.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Even though he is not Lu's brother, Burn can and will kill anyone that harms her.
  • Book Dumb: Not very intellectually smart, given his comments.
  • Death Glare: Gives one to King when he sees the latter in the cell.
  • Do You Want to Copulate?: Has subtly implied to Rat if he wanted to have sex.
  • Ethical Slut: Burn is rather horny (if his comments to Riku, Yuki, and Fuu are anything to go by) and strongly believes in consent.
  • Fiery Redhead: Burn has red hair and got immensely with King and Monocop, albeit for different reasons.
  • Gentle Giant: Despite being 6'11 and rather buff, he is actually rather gentle with others.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: The huge guy to Lu's tiny girl. They are close friends from before Hope's Prison, and Burn will do anything to protect Lu.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Gets a few shirtless scenes, and there is a lot of emphasis on his muscles.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: When he is talking about his past, he explains that he sold his soul to the mafia. However, he is generally one of the nicer cast members of the lot (despite his rude comments).
  • Sanity Ball: Occasionally one of the saner members of the cast, able to see things the others don't. Frequently passes the ball over to Kazuo, Mei, Riku, Fuu, Lu and Lachlan.

Fuu Watanabe

Played by: Vinny

Fuu Watanabe is the Ultimate Ballroom Dancer.

  • Technicolor Eyes: Fuu has purple eyes, though they've stated that it isn't their real color.
  • Prince Charming: A gender neutral form of the trope, they act politely and chivalrously to all the students.
  • Sanity Ball: Occasionally one of the saner members of the cast, able to see things the others don't. Frequently passes the ball over to Burn, Mei, Riku, Kazuo, Lu and Lachlan.

Jaakuna Kumo

Played by: Verdant

Jaakuna Kumo is the Ultimate Weapons Collector.

  • Affably Evil: Sure, Jaakuna is a criminal, but that doesn't stop her from being friendly with the other inmates.
  • Berserker Tears: When she discovered that her friend Hildred Brasher was dead, Jaakuna immediately starts to cry and scream in rage. This leads to her attacking Monocop, which doesn't end well for her.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Decides to attack Monocop when he kept offering her chicken nuggets.
  • Percussive Therapy: When she discovers that Hildred is dead, she gets sad. Monocop offering her chicken nuggets even after she said no causes her to attack him.
  • Trying Not to Cry: When she discovers that Hildred is dead, she tries to hold back tears, but find that she can't.
  • Unnecessary Combat Roll: Decides to roll into the kitchen even though she easily could have walked in after leaving solitary.

Kazuo Hiyama

Played by: Vanity

Kazuo Hiyama is the Ultimate Phantom Thief. Different from Rat.

  • Fame Through Infamy: Kazuo despises how he became famous through his crimes. He intended on not getting caught, yet gained fame after he got caught.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Kazuo how did you forget to check if someone was alive?
  • Gentleman Thief: Overlapping with his Phantom Thief trope, Kazuo generally avoids violence in his crimes.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: Kazuo paints his nails and frequently talks about his feelings.
  • Informed Ability: Kazuo is stated to be quite lithe and really good at investigating. In the actual roleplay however, he keeps failing to investigate the rooms... And somehow broke his nose trying to decode a note.
  • Living a Double Life: Formerly. Kazuo was a normal high school student who also moonlighted as a phantom thief.
  • Narcissist: Kazuo thinks highly of himself, given that he got into an argument with Rat over their respective talents and insisted that he got his for his dramatic flair.
  • Nasal Trauma: Somehow broke his nose trying to decode a note.
  • Phantom Thief: Kazuo's talent, interestingly enough. From how Kazuo acts, it seems he did his thefts as a personal challenge. Overlaps with Gentleman Thief.
  • Sanity Ball: Occasionally one of the saner members of the cast, able to see things the others don't. Frequently passes the ball over to Burn, Mei, Riku, Fuu, Lu and Lachlan.
  • Secret Identity: Kazuo was the phantom thief 'Le Reflet', and it was a secret until he got caught and arrested.
  • Sunglasses at Night: Kazuo wakes up wearing his sunglasses and has yet to take them off.
  • Technicolor Eyes: Kazuo has red eyes.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: The tiny guy to Mei's huge girl. She towers over him at 6'3.
  • Tsundere: Generally acts aloof and prickly, but does have a softer side to himself.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Admits to Yuki around chapter 4 that he went from only caring about himself to wanting for Fuu and Yuki to survive.

"King"

Played by: Erica

The Ultimate Mobster. He is in jail for reasons.

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: King was actually caught jaywalking, but then the cops did research on him and found out he committed assault, murder.... And tax fraud.
  • Bearer of Bad News: King is the one to tell Jaakuna that her friend Hildred is dead because Jaakuna has been in prison for a while and didn't have access to the news.
  • Berserk Button: Losing his hat. [spoiler: This causes him to beat up Rat at the party.]
  • Brooklyn Rage: King hangs from Brooklyn and given his ties to the mafia, he tends to have lots of pent up rage and use his accent when enraged.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: King has been known to make suggestive comments, but he also makes sure to not push boundaries (such as backing off if someone is not interested)
  • Eye-Obscuring Hat: Wears one of these even inside the prison. This is to hide his fucked up eye.
  • Eye Scream: When his hat is removed, he has a scar and a fucked up eye he cannot see out of.
  • Gayngster: King is the Ultimate Mobster and has stated to have an ex-boyfriend, as well as flirting with several of the other inmates.
  • Improvised Weapon: Utilizes a book against Lachlan when the latter tried to strangle him.
  • Known Only by Their Nickname: Goes by King. Justified since he is a mafiaoso.
  • Prone to Tears: Cries a lot over the littlest things. Such as getting hugged.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: Despite seeming like an idiot and overly emotional at times, King does know how to mess with others weaknesses. He was aware of Lachlan's aversion to electricity, so naturally he electrocutes himself in front of Lachlan to trigger Lachlan's PTSD.
  • Sweet Baker: Played with. Manages to make some sweets to try to make things up to everyone, despite nearly killing Rat.
  • Who Names Their Kid "Dude"?: His name is Hildred Leslie Brasher.

Lachlan Townsend

Played by: Evian

Lachlan Townsend is one of the four Ultimate ???'s. Also Lachlan has no rights.

  • Alpha Bitch: Lachlan is rude, petty and cruel, and seems to take pleasure in causing grief to the other students.
  • Berserk Button: Flies into a rage seeing the My Immortal fanfiction.
  • Butt-Monkey: Gets punched in the face by Riku and Hikari in two different occasions. Riku also did a sweep on him while Hikari pinned him to the fridge. King also managed to nearly knock him out with a book. And to top it off, he is one of the protagonists of the 'My Immortal' fanfiction - in a sense of him replacing Draco.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Has been on the recieving end of these thanks to Riku, King, and Hikari. However, King's was justified due to Lachlan trying to murder him, and Riku didn't break anything but his pride.
  • Death Glare: Gives one to Riku when the latter beats him in a fight.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Even though he is one of the more antagonist characters in the cast, even he was disgusted by the fact that You Ai is an anti-vaxxer.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Lachlan, did you really send an anonymous note to the Ultimate Phantom Thief with froggy stationary?
  • Fiery Redhead: Despite having dyed his hair blond, he sometimes gets annoyed very easily, and is prone to stnapping at the others.
  • Jerkass: Lachlan, from the get-go, is immediately an asshole to the other characters, telling Riku in their first conversation that he was pathetic and useless.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Sure, Lachlan was a jerk about how he said it, but he did point out to the cast that asking Monocop to remove a body part doesn't ensure they get to pick who loses a body part.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Despite not being as evident in his cast art, Lachlan does have hair that reaches his shoulders and is attractive physically as well.
  • Narcissist: Expresses in a conversation with Riku that he sees himself as superior to the other cast members, and that they are ants that could be easily crushed under his foot.
  • Sanity Ball: Occasionally one of the saner members of the cast, able to see things the others don't. Frequently passes the ball over to Burn, Mei, Riku, Fuu, Lu and Kazuo.
  • Sore Loser: After he loses his fight to Riku in the hallway, he ends up snapping at Riku and glares at him with intense rage.
  • Signature Laugh: Often accents his sentences with a "Huhu~".
  • Tsundere: He's generally rude and abrasive, but reveals a softer side to Kazuo.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Flies into one at the mention of the fanfiction. It's hinted that this is not the first time it's happened.

Lucrezia Angeli

Played by: Middy

Lucrezia "Lu" Angeli is the Ultimate Costume Designer.

  • An Arm and a Leg: She lost one of her arms in the past. Based on comments from Word of God, it was an accident of some sort...
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Ends up figuring out how the second trial went, so she ends up explaining how it went.
  • The Caretaker: To her younger brother. Lu mentions that her dad is busy working all the time, so she has to take care of her younger brother.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: Lu is very feminine, wearing dresses in her application image. She also cooks a lot of food for the cast... Played with in that the food she makes is designed to be thrown into the microwave later.
  • Gibberish of Love: Played with since it is more of an attraction or crush, but when Mei begins to flirt with her, Lu's brain shuts down and she speaks gibberish.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: The tiny girl to Burn's huge guy. They are close friends from before Hope's Prison, and Burn will do anything to protect Lu.
  • Prone to Tears: Some comments, if directed at Lu, will cause her to cry.
  • Sanity Ball: Occasionally one of the saner members of the cast, able to see things the others don't. Frequently passes the ball over to Burn, Mei, Riku, Fuu, Kazuo and Lachlan.
  • Scary Teeth: Has very sharp teeth. Mentioning this will make her cry however.
  • Starstruck Speechless: With Mei. Lu ends up speechless when she gets flirted with, but she does not reciprocate her affections.... For a bit, at least.
  • Tears of Fear: Runs away crying after encountering Monocop.
  • Unrequited Love Switcheroo: Was initially not interested in Mei, but once Malory enters the picture, Lu suddenly gains an interest in Mei and gets sad since she feels that she is the only person that isn't dating. Thankfully however, Mei talks with her, and they both end up dating each other and Malori.
  • Workaholic: She admits that she will make clothing commissions until she finishes and collapses afterwards. This concerns the other students.

Mei Watanabe

Played by: Ana

Mei Watanabe is the Ultimate Arsonist.

  • All Love Is Unrequited: Is crushing on Lu. However, Lu is actually interested in Fuu. Becomes subverted in chapter 2 due to Mei dating Malori and then asking Lu out as well, resulting in them becoming a polyamorous trio.
  • Angst Nuke: When Hikari dies, Mei ends up going through lots of angst, and ends up exploding in her cell.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Attacks Monocop with Jaakuna. This doesn't end well for her.
  • Facial Horror: Part of Mei's face is burned and permanently scarred. She hasn't stated why this is the case yet.
  • Heroic Build: Well, Mei isn't exactly a hero, but she is rather tall and muscular.
  • Hidden Depths: When talking about herself, Mei reveals that she likes to write French poetry.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Mei alternates between keeping to herself and fighting with several people - she admitted to fighting King and nearly punched Yuki. However, she also cares greatly for her girlfriends and Kazuo, making sure nothing happens to them.
  • Never Learned to Read: Played with. Mei cannot read English, and this is brought up because she found a note in another room, yet had to find someone to read it for her.
  • Pyromaniac: Mei is an arsonist
  • No Social Skills: Mei admitted that she isn't good with talking to others. Word of St. Paul confirms that she learned how to speak English by talking to a marionette.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Does her best to keep her anger in starting in chapter 3... But when he friend Hikari dies and Suzuno reveals that she did it, Mei SNAPS and nearly kills Suzuno right then and there.
  • Red Right Hand: Mei has a scar on her face indicating that she has been burned in the past and isn't 100% good.
  • Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training: Mei can barely hold a conversation with others, but it's implied that she can do... Something.
  • Sanity Ball: Occasionally one of the saner members of the cast, able to see things the others don't. Frequently passes the ball over to Burn, Riku, Lu, Fuu, Kazuo and Lachlan.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: The huge girl to Kazuo's tiny guy. She towers over him at 6'3.

"Pion"/ Malory

Played by: Sunny

Pion is one of the four Ultimate ???'s. Not much is known about them.

  • Beneath the Mask: Is actually a very sweet and naive girl.
  • The Big Guy: Pion is the tallest cast member, standing at 7'6. Subverted, Malory is actually the shortest member of the cast.
  • Challenge Seeker: Reveals in the roleplay that on her birthday, she wanted to challenge someone to a fight, and immediately challenges Burn before changeling Riku, given that the latter knows swordplay.
  • Conspicuous Trenchcoat: Really makes Pion stand out, as they have a mask, sunglasses, a hat, and a trench coat while everyone else is wearing a prison uniform. This really helps hide the fact that Malory wore stilts.
  • Dramatic Unmask: Played with. After getting beat up by King, she loses her mask, but Burn covers her with his uniform. Then played straight when she removes it and reveals herself.
  • Full-Body Disguise: With the hat, mask, glasses, and trench coat, no one can see what Pion really looks like. Later is revealed to be a small woman with stilts.
  • Jerkass: Has a biting tongue and says rude comments to any and everyone they see. Subverted with her true persona as Malory, given that she is actually really nervous and hates being rude to everyone. She was rude as Pion to protect everyone.
  • Mask of Confidence: As Pion, Malory is much more assertive and willing to fight.
  • Opaque Lenses: Wears a pair of glasses that causes others to not see their eyes, but they can see everyone just fine.
  • Revealing Injury: Twice. The first time, Pion goes down because Lachlan kicked them. In retaliation, Pion throws one of their legs at Lachlan, revealing that they're on stilts. Then King beats up Pion and her mask disappears, revealing that she is Malory.
  • Sweet Polly Oliver: Malory pretends to be Pion, and goes by they/them pronouns under this disguise.
  • Walking Spoiler: Hard to talk about Pion without revealing that she is actually Malory.

Riku Kitai

Played by: Rin

Riku Kitai is the Ultimate Stunt Driver.

  • All Asians Know Martial Arts: Word of St. Paul states that one of Riku's moms is the Ultimate Samurai, and Riku managed to use his martial arts to beat Lachlan in the fight in the hallway.
  • All Gays are Promiscuous: Has flirted with (and said perverted comments to) several guys so far - King, Kazuo, Lachlan, Burn, Hikari, and Michi. [spoiler: Subverted in that Riku is merely flirting with them without intending on dating any of them.]
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Suffers from ADHD, as he occasional forgets information and hyperfocuses - the cranes being one such example, as he made 1,000 cranes within the span of two weeks.
  • But Not Too Foreign: Riku was stated to be born in Japan and lives in a Japanese household, but he grew up in America and holds some American values.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Riku is pretty perverted based on his comments about guys, but he does care about them as people, given how he talks to Kazuo and King.
  • Clear My Name: As stated to the other students, Riku was framed for arson. He mentions that the evidence is currently being reviewed but given that he's in this killing game, he might not live to see his name get cleared.
  • Do You Want to Copulate?: Has made comments about wanting to have sex with Burn, Lachlan, and King.
  • Electronic Eye: One of Riku's eyes is electronic, replacing one that he lost years ago.
  • Ethical Slut: Riku is pretty open about flirting with others and hits on plenty of the guys in the prison. His comments to Monocop implied that he would have slept with some of them as well. That being said, he knows exactly when his flirting is too much, and strongly believes in consent.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Riku, how did you forget that you were able to see out of both eyes? (He was under the impression he didn't have his robotic eye.)
  • Gratuitous Spanish: Surprisingly averted, though it has to do with the fact that his roleplayer speaks Spanish and occasionally forgets English.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Riku has long hair that he wears loose. Justified in that he was only allowed to bring one accessory, and he picked his eye. It Makes Sense in Context.
  • Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places: After coming to terms with being in Hope's Prison, he promptly decides to flirt with many of the male inmates. Subverted when it's revealed that he actually is afraid of falling in love again and is only flirting.... Then played straight when he ends up with Burn, Rat, and Yuki
  • Mr Fan Service: Has a few shirtless scenes, and ends up running around shirtless when the sprinklers go off.
  • Sanity Ball: Occasionally one of the saner members of the cast, able to see things the others don't. Frequently passes the ball over to Burn, Mei, Lu, Fuu, Kazuo and Lachlan.
  • Tempting Fate: Decides to argue with Monocop, despite Monocop being the prison warden. As a result of Riku's antagonizing, Monocop adds two rules to the Prison pad (granted, one of them mentioned that Riku sucked) and he was the first student thrown into solitary. All on the first day as well.

You Ai

Played by: Karma

You Ai is the Ultimate White Hat Hacker.

  • Ambiguously Human: If it wasn't for "jawline", you'd be forgiven for thinking You was human. The jumpsuits hide the rest of her body and thus the indicators that she is a robot. Since the jumpsuit now covers up all of her various joints, the only things about You that shows she is a robot physically is the visible separation between her jaw and head.
  • Can Not Tell A Lie: You is incapable of telling a lie, which led to her being imprisoned.
  • Corrupt the Cutie: You is supposed to have the facade of the stereotypical cute anime girl, however if what we know about Timothy shows you anything, this is a very twisted version of it. Not only that, but considering how she is learning what is and isn't appropriate behavior through her AI, and is currently in a prison full of horny gays, this might not end well.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Since much of You's current personality and worldview comes from Timothy's programming, rather than herself. Given the chance, this will likely be changed later on in the game.
  • Otaku: Timothy is a HUGE one, a big enough otaku to build a waifu robot, and as all of his anime knowledge has been installed in You, she can be considered one as well.
  • Punny Name: Their name is You. This makes getting their attention hard as one could be talking to someone else.
    • Their last name deserves a special mention as well. Ai represents three different things, interestingly enough
      • Ai is similar to AI, meaning artificial intelligence. Fitting given that they are a robot
      • Ai also means love, so their name means "You love"
      • And finally, Ai sounds like "I" so her name sounds like "you, I".
  • Robot Girl: You is a girl who happens to be a robot. She looks more human than robotic.
  • Robot Hair: You is a robot with blue hair.
  • Tracking Device: Timothy installed one of these in her with her GPS. Does not work in prison though.
  • Tracking Device: You has one, although it doesn't work while she is in the prison. She seems to get along just fine without this feature regardless.
  • Yaoi Fangirl: When she sees the males flirt, she frequently makes comments about harems and shipping. This notably annoys Riku and Burn in particular.

Yuki Watanabe

Played by: Vinny

Yuki Watanabe is the Ultimate Rock Star.

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Has ADHD. Yuki occasionally forgets information and has moments where he hyperfocuses.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite being a rockstar who enjoys goofing off, he is surprisingly perceptive on others.
  • Innocently Insensitive: When talking with Mei, he ends up reminding her of her dead fiancee, causing her to snap at him.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When talking to Kazuo about the prison, he mentions marketing it as a dating sim, given that many of the characters ended up together.
  • Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places: Ends up in prison, and decides to flirt with some of the other inmates - namely Burn, Rat, and Riku.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Yuki has long green hair that he ties into a ponytail.
  • Nice Guy: Not the internet nice guy, but Yuki is very friendly and upbeat with others.
  • Sympathetic Murderer: Ends up killing his stepfather, however Yuki was justified in snapping and killing him, given that the latter ruined his life.
  • The Rock Star: Yuki is the Ultimate Rockstar and is stated to play rock music.

    Deceased Students

Akane Chieko

Played by: Gale

Akane Chieko is the Ultimate Parasitologist. It is currently unknown why she was in prison.

  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Gets locked in a room for her execution, and thinks she sees her mother. However, it was an illusion, and she ends up burning to death, screaming as it happens. Barring King, no one watched her execution, but they were sickened by what they heard.
  • Failed a Spot Check: She left one of her hairs on Soo-Min's body. She also forgot that since she studies parasites, she has to know about the human body, and the rest of the prison does not know much about anatomy.
  • Man on Fire: Her execution ends with her burning to death.
  • Technicolor Eyes: Has red eyes.
  • Yaoi Fangirl: A comment from Burn during the second trial reveals that he doesn't like her because she is one of these. It's rather telling that she doesn't deny this.

Hikari Kurosawa

Played by: Taco

Hikari Kurosawa is the Ultimate Knife Thrower.

  • Berserk Button: Harming King. As Lachlan found out, you should NEVER mess with Hikari's boyfriend (even if Hikari won't admit he's dating King)
  • The Big Guy: Sure, he isn't as strong as Burn, but Hikari towers over most of the cast at 6'7.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: Sure, it wasn't immediate, but while King can defend himself, Hikari can and will harm anyone that goes after him.
  • Death Glare: Gives one to Lachlan after the latter beats up King.
  • Deep Sleep: Hikari awakens long after the other students, apparently not bothered by the commotion they made earlier.
  • Have I Mentioned That I Am Heterosexual Today: If asked if he is gay, Hikari immediately insists that he's straight. This convinces absolutely none of the cast.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: What's not to love about Hikari's hair? Long and dark brown <3 <3
  • Rage Breaking Point: Manages to keep his cool around Lachlan until Lachlan is dismissive of apologizing to King. So Hikari explodes and breaks his nose.
  • The Stoic: Because fuck emotion, apparently, Hikari will often block out any and all emotions that might be brewing under his carefully neutral expression.
  • Tranquil Fury: When confronting Lachlan, Hikari's voice is cold and he doesn't shout until he loses it.
  • Transparent Closet: Hikari is dating King, but he freaks out when asked if he is gay.

Michi Kasei

Played by: Dulce

Michi Kasei is the Ultimate Astrologist. He is the first victim, having attempted to kill "Star" with a knife, but he unfortunately triggered "Star"'s PTSD and ended up getting killed instead.

  • Chivalrous Pervert: In one of his interactions with Riku, he suggests that Riku 'strips' in order to ogle him. That being said, when Riku mentions a heavier topic, Michi does do his best to help console Riku and move the topic a different direction.
  • Do You Want to Copulate?: Implies to Riku that they could fuck.
  • Technicolor Eyes: One of Michi's eyes is yellow.

"Rat"

Played by: Lilly

Rat is the Ultimate Thief. Different from Kazuo.

  • Affectionate Nickname: If you're Riku or Burn, you can call him Tae if it's just the two of you.
  • Lovable Rogue: Despite being a thief, Rat is actually pretty nice and friendly.
  • Known Only by Their Nickname: Goes by the name Rat. His real name is Tae-ho.
  • Irony: Says that he won't be caught dead in the execution room, especially with another person, early in chapter 3. When the body discovery announcement happens however...

Soo-Min Yon

Played by: Shauna

Soo-Min Yon is the Ultimate Lab Rat. Dies in chapter 2 when Akane decided to kill her

"Star"

Played by: Sean

"Star" is one of the four Ultimate ???'s.

Suzuno Tama

Played by: Yuuki

Suzuno Tama is one of the four Ultimate ???'s.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Her true nature, given that she is the Ultimate Executioner.
  • The Stoic: Generally doesn't express herself, and advises Riku to keep his emotions in check.

    Other Characters

"D"

D is an unknown figure who has left diary entries around the prison, describing how Hope's Prison got to where it was. Not much is known about them.

  • Chekhov's Gunman: D has actually been seen once before, according to Word of God.
  • The Ghost: Has yet to show up, yet their diary entries read like an apocalypse log. Subverted, they have been seen briefly.
  • Sent Into Hiding: Seems to be in hiding, but not much is known otherwise.
  • Uncertain Doom: Given that D has not shown up in the story and seems to have fallen ill at some point, it is possible that they have died. Or even yet, that they're one of the missing students mentioned in the broadcast. Wordof God confirms that D is alive, but not living.

The Mastermind

The mastermind is the one who organized this killing game. Heavily implied to be one of the students.

  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: The mastermind's identity is not confirmed yet, but is heavily implied to be one of the students.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The boss to Monocop and the one who set up this killing game in the first place.
  • Hidden Villain: The characters are suppose to guess who the mastermind is.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: They are first mentioned in chapter 1 after attacking Lu in the kitchen.

Monocop

Played by: Middy

The prison warden. He is a dog wearing a cop uniform and has a red eye similar to Monokuma

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Whomever created Monocop intended for him to hurt the students. Since he thinks nothing of the Three Laws of Robotics.
  • Eating Machine: He can eat bones and jerky.
  • Jerkass: Monocop is rather rude to the students and doesn't hesitate to throw them into solitary for the smallest grievances.
  • Killer Cop: He's the prison warden, and he executes students who commit murder
  • Mind Hive: Heavily implied to be this. In D's note, they note that there were multiple robot paws that they found, and Kazuo theorizes that there are actually many Monocop dogs - one activates while the others rest, and they alternate for different jobs.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Has a red eye, and he has been known to punish the students.
  • Robot Dog: He's actually a robotic dog that can talk.
  • Talking Animal: Monocop is a talking dog.
  • Three Laws-Compliant: Averted. Monocop can and will injure the students who defy him, and he executes the killers of every trial.

The Traitor

The traitor is assisting the mastermind in this killing game. Heavily implied to be one of the students.

  • Chekhov's Gunman: Has been seen plenty of times, but given that their identity is a secret, we don't know who they are.
  • Evil Minions: They have yet to commit any murder but still assist the mastermind.
  • Hidden Villain: The characters need to figure out who the traitor is.

Despair and Chains: Prison Fiasco contains examples of:

  • Artistic License – Martial Arts: Averted in the fight scene between Lachlan and Riku in the hallway. Riku's roleplayer had studied martial arts previously so she made sure that what he did was more or less accurate to martial arts.
  • Alternate Universe: Despite the setting mentioning Hope's Peak and the students being Ultimates, this story does not follow the storyline of the original Danganronpa games.
    • In a way, the same could be applied to King, due to him appearing in the Weeping Willows Spirithand storyline. While having similar backstories, ultimately these two Kings go through different events.
  • Apocalyptic Log: Scattered throughout the prison are little notes from someone (or various people) describing Hope's Prison. Not much is known, but it is heavily implied that things went from bad to worse, and the writer (or writers) are most likely dead.
  • Book Snap: During the fight over the My Immortal: Despair and Chains fanfic, Lachlan tries to choke out King. King responds by... Smacking Lachlan with the very book they're fighting over.
  • Cast Full of Gay: Out of the entire cast, only Akane is cis-hetero.
    • Several characters are gay (Riku, Lachlan, Rat, Lu, Mei, Yuki and Hikari)
    • Several are bisexual (Fuu, Jaakuna, Michi, Kazuo, Burn)
    • A few are pan (Soo-Min is asexual panromantic and Star)
    • You Ai is aromantic asexual.
    • Fuu is nonbinary while Yuki and Riku are transgender.
    • Not much is known about Pion (due to withholding information, but is later revealed to be Malory, who is bisexual) and Suzuno (due to amnesia).
      • Given that most of the roleplayers are LGBT+ themselves, this makes sense.
  • Crapsack World: The students are in a dingy prison, and there is no hopes of escape. There's also the fact that many of them are murderers, while a few have done relatively minor crimes.
  • Condemned Contestant: Everyone in this prison is condemned to participate in the killing game.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: If Rat didn't steal King's hat, then King wouldn't have gone ballistic and beat him up. And if King hadn't done so, then Mei wouldn't have beat him up as well.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • This seems to be a running theme in the roleplay especially around Lachlan. If Lachlan gets into a fight with someone, expect him to lose. Terribly.
      • The first one occurred not even two days after the roleplay started. Riku and Lachlan got into a fight, and Riku kicked Lachlan's ass with a punch and a sweep.
      • The second time was during the fight over the fanfic. King manages to whack Lachlan twice and take him down with the fanfiction.
      • Not even two days after the second time, Hikari breaks Lachlan's nose and gives him a concussion.
      • To top it off these all happened in CHAPTER ONE.
    • Rat receives one after stealing King's hat during the chapter one party.
    • King is on the receiving end of this thanks to Mei right after beating up Rat.
  • Digging Yourself Deeper: When Riku was talking to Lachlan in the hallway, he ended up saying a comment that annoyed Lachlan. Lachlan didn't take it well, and Riku ended up making matters worse trying to backpedal.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Despite everyone being in prison, Monocop gives everyone Prisonpads (tablets) to communicate with each other. Lampshaded by Burn.
  • Hallway Fight: The first fight in the roleplay occurs in the hallway between Riku and Lachlan. However it is very brief because Riku quickly gains the upper hand.
  • Limited Wardrobe: The entire cast is seen wearing orange prison suits. Justified since they are... Well, prisoners.
  • Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places: Could be applied to this cast, given that several of them are in prison during a deadly game... And end up forming relationships.
  • Jail Bake: Averted. Mei thought there was a file in King's ass cookies in chapter one. There wasn't, however.
  • Punch Catch: Attempted by Lachlan during the fight he had with Riku in the hallway on the second day. Unfortunately, Riku punched harder than expected, leading to a Stop Hitting Yourself moment.
  • Running Gag: A few of them have carried over from Rejects Removal, the previous story.
    • "Shut up Kitai" is one said by Monocop anytime Riku speaks. It is this roleplay's version of the "Shut up Liu" meme.
  • Small, Secluded World: The entire roleplay takes place inside a prison. As the story goes on, more floors open up, but otherwise they can't leave. Even with the security room opening up, they cannot contact the outside world.
  • Stop Hitting Yourself: Riku manages to land a punch on Lachlan, and when Lachlan attempts to block it, Riku manages to punch hard enough for Lachlan to hit himself in the face with his own fist. Riku then taunts him and tells him to stop hitting himself.
  • That Came Out Wrong: Riku tries to send a message to Lachlan about meeting up, and then had to clarify that he was not talking about sex. Bonus points for Lachlan not even thinking that way in the first place.
  • Uranus Is Showing: Michi manages to slip one of these in a conversation with Riku.
Michi: Saturn and Neptune are really pretty.. but I’m sure Uranus is better.~
  • Unrequited Love Switcheroo: Mei was initially crushing on Lu, but Lu wasn't interested, given that she had interest in Fuu. However this ends up switching, with Lu falling for Mei right as Mei falls for Malory, Pion's real identity. Lu ends up sad, but this trope later gets subverted when Mei returns Lu's affections, and the two of them start dating each other and Malory.
  • Waking Up Elsewhere: The entire cast wakes up in the holding cell, unsure of when they got there.
  • You Wake Up in a Room: The entire cast wakes up in the Hope's Prison holding cell.
