Crimson Sky was a Play-by-Post Game hosted on DeviantArt, run by owner Arkean Koutetsu and co-owner Maya. It's a collection of horrifically depressing episodic Role Plays done by the group of friends as they either drive their characters insane or cause them severe emotional harm.
The story takes place in a Steampunk world known as Terraknell, which has been split into four factions. These factions are in a very delicate peace after a crippling war that left the main power in the world, the faction of Vataskum, crippled. To make matters worse, an ancient cult is awakening and threatens to break apart the factions that were just starting to heal after the war.
Crimson Sky was supposedly part of the Praxis series, preceded by Crusades Of Praxis, and the Crimson Crusade was the name of the intended continuation. However, the only known link has long been inaccessible.
This series provides examples of:
- Playing with Fire: Many characters use Fire-element Cronze.
- Steampunk: Half the world is run by steam and coal, and while it's not fully run by steam, the aesthetics are there.
- The Sky Is an Ocean: The Sky Pirate ships look like something out of Pirates of the Caribbean, although other factions are more likened to using Zeppelins.
- Unobtainium: Cronze is an odd metallic substance that can be applied to cause magical things to occur, such as Cool Airships or Elemental Powers. That's because of the magical creatures that were turned into Cronze in the last age.
Additional information developed for this setting:
Ericis
The northern-most territory on Terraknell, Ericis is the "peace" faction. They specialize in defensive armaments and take shelter in the mountains of the north.
Monaskeia
The western-most territory on Terraknell, it is by far the most religious faction. It stays rather neutral in its neighbor's affairs, and there's not much to see inside. Or so most of the characters think.
Vataskum
The southern-most territory on Terraknell, Vataskum used to be a proud and industrial faction, but after it was defeated in the past war, its just trying to get its footing in the world again.
Episentia
The eastern-most territory on Terraknell, Episentia is the science center of the world. All the world's best scientists flock to Episentia's illustrious universities and labs.
The Sky Pirates
A "faction" all its own, the Sky Pirates of Aether are a loose collection of brigands and mercenaries who take on jobs that are funded by others. Less "piratey" than most, because of their leader who enforces a code of conduct.
- The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: Averted, they go out and pillage as much as your next Pirate.
- Privateer: Some people in the other Factions hire Pirates to attack other faction's ships.
Matthew Emerald
The leader of the Sky Pirates, and the son of the founder. Followed in his father's footsteps and became the King of the Pirates after his death. Despite this, for the most part he acts as any other Pirate, taking jobs and commandeering his ship, The Wraith. He has an adopted sister named Marz Sapphire, who is The Stone Warden on the Wraith, she's and follows him everywhere.
- Chick Magnet: An in universe example, most ladies who hear of the young Sky Pirate King fall head over heels.
- Chivalrous Pervert: Known more for this amongst his crew. He flirts a lot, but doesn't do much more than that, and would NEVER take advantage of a lady.
- Loveable Rogue: He's a morally obligated Pirate, what more did you expect?
