Credits Gags in The Simpsons.

The TV Series:

• Since "Treehouse of Horror II", all the "Treehouse of Horror" Halloween episodes all credits being given "Spooky names", and the Gracie Films Vanity Plate being accompanied by Ominous Pipe Organ music (although "Treehouse of Horror XII" and "XIII" temporarily stopped using them before bringing them back for "XIV".
• Most episodes after season 7 or 8 will have a mini tag, usually a Deleted Scene meant for earlier in the episode, playing over the credits.
• "Lady Bouvier's Lover" plays a parody of "The Sound of Silence" over the credits, and then Grampa rambles on throughout.
• "Lisa on Ice" plays a ballpark organ version of the credits theme.
• At one point in the episode "Lisa the Vegetarian," guest star Paul McCartney claims that if one plays his song "Maybe I'm Amazed" from McCartney backwards will reveal a secret recipe for lentil soup. The end credits thus features a recording of "Maybe I'm Amazed" with a backmasked recipe for lentil soup...and Paul saying "Oh, by the way, I'm alive", referring to the "Paul is dead" theories.
• In "Bart Star", a ninth-season episode, Homer coaches a peewee football team. Homer talks over the credits, cutting everyone involved in the show, with the exception of guest star Joe "Vapor Lock" Namath. At the end, he cuts the Gracie Films logo.
• In "All Singing, All Dancing" the credits had Snake periodically shooting the sound guys to stop the music ("You too, Gracie music! GAH!") Unfortunately, sometimes syndication cuts it off right after his first threat (eerily, he fired his first gunshots as Phil Hartman's name appears, who was shot to death by his wife three months after the episode first aired).
• In "I'm With Cupid", the end credits text is presented in red color rather than the usual yellow.
• "Marge Simpson in: Screaming Yellow Honkers": Apparently, the Fox executives were not pleased with the episode ending on the characters giving high praise for NBC, so the writers inserted a gag in which Homer is forced, at gunpoint, to declare that NBC sucks and encourage the viewer to watch as many Fox shows as possible. However, Homer ends with the summation "NBC bad... Fox good... (quickly under his breath) CBS great.", and he ends up getting shot.
• "Eight Misbehavin'": Homer continues screaming in pain from being attacked by cobras well into the credits, begging for the next show to come on.
• In "The Mansion Family", the episode ends with Homer crying over the fact that he's not rich. This carries over into the credits, where he cries over how rich all the people listed are and threaten to report them all to the IRS. When the Gracie Films logo appears, Homer responds to the "Shh" with "Don't shush me, you rich bastard!"
  • Or "Don't shush me!" if you're watching the episode on British televison (at least when it was shown on BBC Two, before the Channel Hop).
  • The DVD has Homer complaining over all the credits.
  • Another has Grandpa Simpson rambling over the credits until the logo shushes him and he apologies.
  • Especially funny in that the very first name Homer cuts is "Dan Castellaneta" - the name of the man who provides Homer's voice. So, in effect, Homer cut himself! (Note: When this episode was shown on Sky with teletext subtitles, one last subtitle came up announcing the subtitler himself was cut.)
• "Alone Again, Natura-Diddly": During the credits that run underneath the first sequence of the episode, the writer credit is larger than usual, timed to appear after Lisa comes across a tree with initials carved on it and wonders, "Why do jerks think everyone wants to see their stupid name?"
• At least two in-universe examples: at the end of the first two Itchy cartoons, only one man is listed in the credits. Also, The Poke of Zorro has credits that are just too awesome to be real:

• "Last Tap Dance in Springfield": The entire ending credits sequence are done in the style of old-time movies.
• "The Dad Who Knew Too Little": Over the credits is a scene where Bart steals Lisa's new diary, which shocks unauthorized users who try to open it, and tricks Homer into an attempt to read it as a bedtime story.
• In "Marge vs. SSCCATAG", Roofi's repetitive counting song plays over the ending credits.
• In "Milhouse Doesn't Live Here Anymore", "Movin' On Up" is played over the end credits.
• "Smart and Smarter" has Simon Cowell, the guest star of that episode, riff over the ending credits. It ends with "Oh, shh yourself" in response to the Gracie Films logo.
• In "Regarding Margie", after Marge losing her memory, she tries to remember the people listed in the end credits.
• In "G.I. (Annoyed Grunt)", an Army sergeant talks over the end credits, assigning everyone to "front line infantry".
  • Except for Kiefer Sutherland, who provides the voice of the drill sergeant, who assigns himself to the "COAST GUARD!" (Danny Elfman is also spared, for some reason.)
• On the DVDs, there is usually list of public places where you shouldn't play DVDs. The Simpsons adds "couches" to the list (very minor).
• The Movie had Homer urging the audience not to leave the theater early; "A lot of people worked hard on this movie, and all they ask is that you memorize their names!" One of its credits reads, "Filmed on location in Springfield, .", a reference to Springfield not being in any particular state.
• "Lisa the Drama Queen" has a cover of the Simpsons theme by Fall Out Boy over the credits.
• "No Loan Again, Naturally" has lively jazz music playing instead of the regular credits music.
• "In the Name of the Grampa" uses a version of the credits played with traditional Irish instruments.
• "Father Knows Worst" has a live-action clip of a group playing an acapella version of the Simpsons theme.
• "Waverly Hills 9-0-2-1-D'oh" plays a parody of "Beverly Hills," heard earlier in the episode, over the credits.
• "Four Great Women and a Manicure" continues the Dwarves' song into the credits.
• "Coming to Homerica" ends with a shot of the Denmark flag that the credits continue over. A lively Danish version of the theme plays.
• "Homer the Whopper" has a triumphant, superhero-style credits theme.
• "Bart Gets a Z" has the credits written in cursive.
• "The Great Wife Hope" has a polka theme over the credits.
• In "Pranks and Greens", Lisa calls Andy a loser for the last time when she finds out he became a writer on Krusty's show. This then continues into the credits.
• "O Brother, Where Bart Thou?" ends with the Smothers Brothers and Homer riffing over the credits.
• "Thursdays with Abie" has credits with Homer giving a Rambling Old Man Monologue.
• "Love is a Many-Strangled Thing" has "No More Mr. Nice Guy" playing over the credits.
• "Lisa Goes Gaga" forgoes the traditional credits music for Homer singing a parody of Lady Gaga's "Poker Face".
• The credits sequence in "Adventures in Baby-Getting" are in a cursive font, alluding to how Lisa's been secretly learning cursive in the B-Plot.
• In "Pulpit Friction", Homer sings his own version of "Day By Day" over the credits.
• The executive producer credits (as well as the writer and director credits) for "Homerland" have the "E"s in the names turned backwards, a nod to the "E" used in the font for Homeland.
• "Four Regrettings and a Funeral" features Chip Davis, a character we've never seen before but everyone acts as though he already exists. The credits act as a "memorial" for him where he's edited into a bunch of classic scenes.
• "Yellow Subterfuge" plays a Jamaican calypso version of the Simpsons theme over the credits.
• "White Christmas Blues": On top of the credits is a montage of out-of-state license plates, which Marge complained about earlier in the episode.
• "Steal This Episode": At the end of the episode, after listening to Lisa, Bart comes to the conclusion that "[e]veryone's a pirate". And right as Lisa is about to reveal who the worst one is, she looks at the camera... and is cut off by NASCAR footage again, playing behind the credits.
• The credits sequence of the Family Guy episode "The Simpsons Guy" (which is a crossover with The Simpsons) begins with the Gracie Films logo, with Peter giving out "And now the show is over now" in tune to the music, followed by a combination of the credits sequences of both shows (this is more apparent near the end).
• "The Wreck of the Relationship": Over the credits is a parody of "Haul Away, Joe", by various characters about the events of the episode. We see still images of scenes that aren't a part of the episode, such as Bart painting "I don't like you when you drink" on a shell and presenting it to Homer.
• "Bull-E" plays the Soul Train theme over the credits.
• In "Puffless", Yo Yo Ma's rendition of the Simpsons theme on cello plays over the credits.
• "The Last Traction Hero": Instead of on the TV as per usual, the "Created by" and "Developed by" credits appear on parking space signs while Homer searches for an open spot.
  Homer: D'oh! Mandatory credit!...D'oh! "Developed by"? What does that even mean?
• "Yokel Hero": As with Vice (2018), this episode has premature end credits at the end of Act I. Cletus stops the premature credits, and gives himself a whittling credit.

The Video Games:

• The Simpsons: Road Rage's credits were accompanied by comments from the Comic Book Guy who would exclaim "WORST... (whichever team or position was being shown at the moment)... EVER!" Later in the credits, he begins complaining about how long the game's credits were taking.
• The Simpsons Hit & Run: Kang and Kodos provide a running commentary over the credits, snarking about absolutely everything.
• Much like the segments from the show the game is based on, the credits sequence for The Simpsons: Night of the Living Treehouse of Horror has the game's programmers being given spooky names like Trevor "Brain Dead" Bent and "Murderous" Matt Green.
