This actor's work provides examples of:
- Bit Character: His character Eddie in My Moms New Boyfriend only has two brief scenes and is then never seen again.
- Celebrity Resemblance: To a younger Sean Penn, some used to say
- Deuteragonist: Arguably Rocky in Mean Creek
- Former Child Star: Averted. Never one to be involved in scandals, he has by now completely dropped from the public eye after making mostly independent films for the latter half of his career.
- Older Than They Look: He was 15 when he played Eric Kirby in Jurassic Park III, who is supposed to be 12.
- Mean Character, Nice Actor: Memorably played an unsufferably smug child actor in The Sixth Sense who was also a bully to the main character, but in reality seems to be a genuinely nice guy.
- Playing Against Type: Renfield in Vampireis a very depraved exception in a filmography mostly populated by good hearted characters.
- Star-Making Role: Arguably The Sixth Sense.
