and this interview.With the release of the original Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord (1981), Sir-Tech became one of the founding fathers of the still-nascent Western RPG genre, rivaled only by Origin Systems in the next two decades. Like Origin, however, Sir-Tech fell victim to the mid-90s WRPG crisis. Despite ramping up its publishing business in its final years (it was at this point that they discovered Madlab Software's Jagged Alliance), the US branch was unable to support itself and closed its doors in 1998. Sir-Tech Canada remained operational long enough to produce a JA sequel in 1999 and to wrap up Wizardry in 2001, but they, too, had to shut down for good in 2003.
