"I'm a misplaced American but don't know where I was misplaced."

Ruby Wax, OBE, (19 April 1953), is an American-British actress, writer, comedian and television personality.

After moving to the UK early in her life, she joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1978, staying there for the next five years. During this period, she starred in Shock Treatment (the "equal" to The Rocky Horror Picture Show), taking over the role of Betty Hapschatt from Hilary Farr.

In The '80s, she starred in and co-wrote both series of Girls on Top, as Shelley DuPont, while also providing voices for fifteen episodes of Count Duckula. In 1988, she married producer/director Ed Bye, who worked on Red Dwarf at the time. Wax guest-starred in the episode "Timeslides" after Graham Chapman died before he could film his scene in the episode.

Her rise to prominence came in The '90s as a comic interviewer on shows such as The Full Wax, Ruby Wax Meets..., Ruby, and The Ruby Wax Show. She was also a script editor for Absolutely Fabulous. In 2004, she voiced a caricature of the Pope as a bratty, spoilt child in Popetown, although the series went unaired for fear of offending Catholics.

She has joint citizenship in both America and Britain and was appointed an OBE in 2015 for her services to mental health.
