Robert Merle (28 August 1908 – 27 March 2004) was a French novelist.

His novels were quite diverse in genre (including Science Fiction, historical fiction, swashbuckling adventures and grim anti-war stuff). Several of his novels were adapted to films. What he is best remembered for may depend on who you ask, but the most popular books are his Fortune De France series. These books set in late 16th and early 17th century were so popular in France that some people called him "The 20th Century's Alexandre Dumas".
