Ranganathan Madhavan (born June 1, 1970) is an Indian actor, screenwriter, director, and producer who primarily works in Tamil and Hindi cinema.
Starting out as an actor on television and non-mainstream cinema (including a supporting role in Fred Olen Ray's Inferno), Madhavan (Maddy to his fans) gained prominence with his debut in Mani Ratnam's Alai Payuthey, whose success, along with that of his next film, Minnale, catapulted him into stardom in the Tamil film industry. His first film in Bollywood, a remake of Minnale titled Rehna Hai Tere Dil Main, made him a star further north as well, and Maddy has since enjoyed both critical and commercial success across both industries. Madhavan has also produced several films, many of which he has starred in, and made his debut as a director and screenwriter in 2022's Rocketry The Nambi Effect.
Madhavan has been married to Sarita Birje since 1999; his son Vedaant is a competitive swimmer.
