"Y'know, somehow I imagined the big Warlock vs. Warlock battle to be a little more impressive than 'Two guys fight with a stick in a sewing room.'"
Witchcraft 3: The Kiss of Death

Allison Pregler (born December 6, 1989) is a reviewer who takes on Z-grade movies, usually in the horror or martial arts genre; a roughly similar beat to The Cinema Snob, but tending towards dumb action flicks and a morbid enjoyment of them. She began reviewing in late 2009 and after gaining some notoriety on their forums (under her old handle, Obscurus Lupa), she became a member of the Channel Awesome family. She remained on the site until early 2015, when Obscurus Lupa Presents was retooled into Movie Nights.

  • Obscurus Lupa Presents: Z-movies from the early 70s to the modern day. A "Z" movie for Allison is something that doesn't have the capability or the budget to do something incredible. Not all the movies are bad. Some are terrible.
  • Commercial Dubs: Allison riffs on TV spots and film trailers from the 90s in her inimitable style.
  • Manic Episodes: Focuses on individual episodes from TV shows, usually of the Big Lipped Alligatorinvoked variety. As with her movie reviews, Allison points out inherent issues with the writing, acting and production. More recently, Allison has taken to reviewing the entire run of series that jumped the shark (She-Wolf of London), were cut down in their prime (Beauty and the Beast, Tales of the Gold Monkey), or didn't live up to their potential (Charmed).
    • Baywatching: A trek through America's gift to the world, Baywatch! Allison has vowed to review all 242 grueling episodes.
  • Radu Reviews: Christian and Edutainment films for kids reviewed by everybody's favorite vampire, Radu Vladislav! Radu seems to be under the impression that these films are macabre and edgy.
  • Movie Nights: Similar to Obscurus Lupa Presents but with the format changed to a discussion panel, either with Allison presenting solo or teaming up with a guest host (such as her husband and frequent collaborator Phelous). The movies chosen are still either Z-grade genre films or notorious mainstream flops that flew under the radar. Unlike OLP, Allison does not perform as a character.

She also currently runs two podcasts through her channel, both covering the Charmed franchise and both co-hosted with Phelous.

  • Charmed Hard with a Vengeance: Allison and Phelous recap and talk about each episode of the 2018 reboot of Charmed as it airs. They bailed on the show with "Chaos Theory."
  • Charmed Rewind: When the reboot is on breaks, Allison and Phelous dip into episodes of the original show as selected by voters from her Patreon.

After a controversial departure from Channel Awesome, Allison officially announced on January 20th, 2015, that she'd be revamping OLP into an impromptu review show called Movie Nights, with an appropriately-shlocky elevator jazz theme.

Her videos can be seen here and here. Can also be found at her Twitter account and Tumblr account.

Can't get enough Allison? You can see her kicking ass as Interpol ninja Cheetah Lee in Ninja the Mission Force. She also appeared in Brad Jones' movie Jesus, Bro! and frequently guest-starred on his series Midnight Screenings, typically reviewing terrible childrens' films or RiffTrax live shows, as well as the occasional adult comedy (including, of course, Baywatch (2017)).

  • Actually Pretty Funny:
    • Though her review of Two Front Teeth starts negatively, she soon comes around to loving it.
    • The fart jokes in Howling VII got the biggest laughs from her, no surprise there.
    • Return to Frogtown: Lou Ferrigno with frog paint on his face. Ribbit.
    • Two Front Teeth: A group of carolers being greeted with a gun.
    • Move over, Spock's Beard; here comes Evil Leo.
"The hair. Oh, god. The hair."
    • In her review of Showgirls 2: Penny's From Heaven, she admits that Penny wearing the murderer's blood-covered dress was actually funny, if only because Penny is supposed to be a dumb character.
  • Admiring the Abomination: Allison melts when she lays eyes on Graboid spawn, particularly the Shriekers.
  • Adult Child:
    • We have this gem from her Sherlock Holmes crossover with The Snob.
Snob: A fart joke? What are you, FIVE?
      Allison: Yes.
    • The introduction to the American Ninja marathon, beginning with #2. ("Heh, number two.")
    • When the Chick tries to do her analyzing thing, Allison just farts in her general direction.
"That's what I think about your stupid analysis!"
    • Heartily agrees with Charmed message boards that Neighbor Dan is a "greasy buttcrack poo-flap". In fact, it's the greatest bon mot she's ever heard.
  • Affectionate Parody:
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: An in-universe case. In her review of The Amazing Bulk, she jokingly suggests that Darwin is actually neither a general nor Hank's boss, just some crazy guy whose delusions are enabled by the other characters.
  • And the Rest:
"Well, folks, it's been an amazing journey, this Rothrock-a-thon. We've taken on some poor wire work, some badly-edited imports, and whatever the hell China O'Brien was."
  • And There Was Much Rejoicing:
    • Typically, whenever an annoying character bites the dust. See also "Ode to Joy" below.
Allison: So long Sonny, we'll always remember you for the asshole you were. (Lady Dragon 2)
    • The eighth season of Charmed opens on an appropriate venue, a wake. Allison is sunny: "Things start off swimmingly, because ''the Charmed Ones are dead!" This is even the theme of Season 8's title card, depicting a going away party for the Halliwell Clan (alive and dead) and Allison blowing a party horn in celebration.
  • Angrish:
    • When the events of Mindwarp are revealed to have all been a simulation, Allison reverts to sputtering angrish for a few seconds.
    • Her reaction to Return to Frogtown being a remake, and not a sequel.
  • Anything but That!:
    • Angry Joe demanding that she review Phantasm's crappy sequels, or he'll make her...watch Gerry again! "You bastard!"
    • Mitch on Baywatch is portrayed as the ultimate deadbeat dad, as shown in "The Sky is Falling"; frequently mistaking Hobie for inanimate objects and fighting his ex for custody... of his favorite surfer bum hat. *cue sad Tibetan flute*
  • April Fools' Day: Used to review some awful movie called Star Wars: A New Hope, which "fell into rightful obscurity".
  • Arc Fatigue: invoked Welcome to Manic Episodes, home of the Charmed reviews. Whatever.
    • Her year-long stint reviewing the 13 Witchcraft movies. Later reviews had her try to escape reviewing them and make jokes about trying to get them out of the way.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking:
    • A filibuster of hate at Charmed (1998)'s Phoebe.
"What a selfish, awful person. Seriously, who was watching this and didn't instantly see Emperor Palpatine through her thin, grimy veneer? She's the most heinous of people, the lowest of the low. I could murder her! And she's fictional! I FEEL LIKE I'M TAKING CRAZY PILLS WATCHING THIS SHOW!
"So anyway, I don't like her much."
    • Over the course of the recaps, Charmed's Elders are promoted to dicks, such dicks, colossal dicks, a BAG of dicks and a city constructed entirely out of dicks.
"Wow, they really are a bunch of penises, aren't they?"
    • Allison's parting shot at the series was morbid, and yet also fitting: the DVD box sets are of such poor quality that they rendered some of her discs unwatchable.
  • Arson, Murder, and Lifesaving: "Aaaand yet..."
    • She riffs because she cares. The harshest videos often conclude with a recommendation. Even Charmed got a last-minute reprieve, with at least its early seasons receiving a Guilty Pleasure recommendation.
    • She admits that, for all the insanity of the episode "Cyberwoman" from Torchwood, a cyborg woman fighting a pterodactyl is not something to see every day.
    • The climax of Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation has Renee Zellweger being pursued by two Illuminati agents in a black sedan, Leatherface in a woman suit, and a crop duster plane a la North By Northwest.
      "That.....was AWESOME!!"
    • Two examples from Charmed, both involving "Bad Future" storylines. The Season Two closer impressed Allison with its dark mood and twist ending, in which Future Phoebe does not get rescued by the Whitelighters and falls prey to a modern witch hunt. And it all hinged on dog poop!
Allison: (Remember, they always gotta add one stupid thing.)
    • Season Six went the other way: laughably-cheap establishing shots of "2026 AD", hopeless time travel discontinuities, and Piper's spawn growing up to become dictator of the world ("And he looks hilariously like a member of Nickelback"). And with that, the show barrels over the line where it becomes awesome.
    • Faint praise, but she did appreciate the casting of two actors who look exactly like Old!Piper and Leo, instead of resorting to some kind of hideous prosthetics (which they almost did).
    • Much chortling over Leo's role as the "doofy guy who explains away plot holes and gets stuff thrown at him." However, it seems he's been hanging around the Halliwells too long, as Season Eight sees him turning into an apathetic, lecherous bum who makes a pass at another man's wife, earning himself a punch in the jaw. To which Allison surrenders, "Okay, he deserved that one."
    • She went against fan opinion by praising Season 8's Replacement Scrappyinvoked, Billie (Kaley Cuoco of The Big Bang Theory fame) for acting her heart out and being a better hero overall — regardless of what the Halliwells claim.
Allison: I know, I know, she's a stupid add-on character that takes attention away from the leads. But you're not understanding me: she takes attention away from the leads.
  • Atrocious Alias: While the literal interpretation of the latin "Obscurus Lupa" is along the lines of "Dark She-Wolf", it's been brought to her attention before that in slang usage, it also would mean "evil whore."
  • Author Appeal:
    • She looooooooves Cynthia Rothrock. (and Richard Norton.)
Allison: (mock whisper) I'm going to spoil it for you: Cynthia Rothrock kicks people. A LOT.
    • She isn't above (gently) taking the piss out the martial arts queen. ( X-treme Fighter)
Sally: I'm studying for my second PhD.
Allison: Hoo hoo, it's still funny.
    • The Cheetah Lee character (Ninja the Mission Force S.2) is a well-crafted portrayal of Rothrock, from the wig to the ridiculous fight stances.
    • If the opening title cards are any hint, she's a fan of Bowling for Soup.
    • Werewolves. Werewolves everywhere.
    • Kate Hodge of She-Wolf of London "fame". She even has an autographed glossy of Hodge on her mantel (confusingly addressed to "Scott").
    • And after Allison gets through her filmography, poor Kate will wish she had stayed anonymous.
      "Was she in this? Whoopsie!"
    • "Actor" Billy Drago. While not as beloved as the others (Allison never sought Billy out: he just sort of stumbles drunkenly into her reviews), he's always a welcome sight nonetheless.
    • In a subversion, she's nonplussed to see Brandon Quinn, a respectable actor and lead hero of her favorite show from childhood, Big Wolf on Campus, slumming it as lunkhead "Agent Murphy" on Charmed S.8.
    • Allison likes her musical interludes—such as The Goddamned Frog Band.
    • Everyone's favorite drunk, Pappy, serenading the audience with "Testify". Allison happily plays Air Guitar by the end. (Howling 7: New Moon Rising)
"And yes, folks, he did just tell everyone to stand up after he told them to sit down. Testify!"
    • Halfway into A Special Sesame Street Christmas, Allison is about ready to throw in the towel... and then Oscar breaks out the electric guitar.
    • Allison opened the review for Miami Connection—aka the world's first musical about ninjas—dressed as a trashy 80s rock groupie. The reason quickly becomes clear: Dragon's Sound. Allison punches the air with joy.
      "TAI-KWON! TAI-KWON! ♪ (to camera) You're singing it, right?
    • Sexophone: The soundtrack to Allison's life. Also lampshaded throughout her reviews, most notably in her Hard To Kill review: "CUE SEXY SAXOPHONE MUSIC". Later parodied in Baywatch's "The Drowning Pool", when the smoldering Derek McSnobbington descends some stairs with a superimposed sax between his lips.
    • For some unknowable reason, the "sandboni" on Baywatch elicits cheers whenever it shows up. invoked
  • Awesomeness Is Volatile:
  • Backhanded Compliment:
    • Undefeatable - That year's best comedy.
    • China O'Brien 2 - The sequel so good, you can't even get it on DVD.
    • Witchcraft 5 has the best sound mixing in the series so far.
Allison: They went from "no effort at all", to, "DUB EVERYTHING"
    • The Smiths' "How Soon is Now", while an odd choice for Charmed's theme song, is especially fitting when you consider her emotional state while reviewing it.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: MikeJ sits though ten torturous minutes of Witchcraft 5 under the promise of seeing boobs. Ask and ye shall receive! ....And the sex scenes are just as monotonous as the rest of the film.
Allison: Are ya bored yet? :3
    MikeJ: You're an awful person.
  • Beat Them at Their Own Game: Oancitizen's insistence that HOOILLIAM SHAXSPAHR is not supposed to have toilet humor in it. Two words for you:
    Allison: Country Matters.
    Oan: (beat) Touché.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: "Not McDreamy! But...he's so charming and British! Accents make everything sexy, he can't be the killer! Perhaps it was some ugly person!"
  • Berserk Button:
    • Gerry.
    • All Just a Dream endings, which have appeared in numerous films that she has reviewed, and which get a different angry reaction each time.
    • She has pointed out that what bothers her the most is how these endings often do not make sense, as they often contradict previous scenes which imply that the movie is taking place in reality. She found this to be a major source of annoyance in 13 seconds, especially since the lead character dreamed of scenes he himself doesn't appear in.
Allison: (Lifts trembling finger gun to head)
    • Phoebe's love life. Just... any of it. ("I don't care I don't care I DON'T CAAARRRRGHGGH") invoked
    • Continually reminding Phoebe of her Aesop Amnesia, to little avail. Particularly toward Cole, who was starting to make Pheobe look bad shortly before he was written out.
Phoebe: I love watching lawyers explode!
Allison: Oh, just fuck you forever.
  • Beware the Nice Ones:
    • She is pretty shocked during Lady Dragon when the little boy kills a bad guy with one kick.
Allison: Send him to fight Ludwig!
    • With Allison herself, she's one of the nicer people on the site, but stalk her, not have fun or refuse to be a lady and she'll get scary. And like the apparent majority of people, she enjoys making the Critic suffer.
  • Big "NO!":
    • Used in her review of "Razor Sharpe". It was justified.
    • When the Little Miss Gamer lookalike gets wasted in Blood Red Moon.
Allison: You were the best of us! [salute!]
    • While sitting through Mindwarp, something about the desert landscape reminds her of something... [cue shot from Gerry] Allison lets out a scream.
    • When Sleepy Hollow High is revealed to be just a dream.
    • Cynthia Rothrock getting her freak on with Principal Flutie. (Fast Getaway)
      "Cynthia, NOOOOO~!"
    • When she realizes there's an eighth Howling movie.
    • When The Hidden 2's squiddly-doos and sparklefarts turn out to be cousins.
    • Coupled with a Big "OMG!" while watching We Wish You a Turtle Christmas.
"How long is this? [looks at running time] 25 minutes? Nooooooooo—"
    • Shouted this when Toady, the chainsaw-wielding Frog Man, was defeated by Roddy Piper.
      • Realizing he's supposed to be the villain, Allison half-heartedly follows it up with, "yeeeeesss?"
    • A Special Sesame Street Christmas ought to have been advertised truthfully as A Sesame Street Carol.
    • The "Groundhog Day" Loop of Phoebe Halliwell discovering love, giving up on love, and discovering it again. When Cole returns just for the sake of repackaging this turkey, Allison responds with teeth-gritted "nnnnnnnnnNO."
      • Slow "NO!": Her reaction to Sleepy Hollow High's "Fuck You" ending.
      • Mitch's genes have passed to his son Hobie, whom he's grooming to succeed him as L.A.'s biggest cretin. Whenever Hobie starts to "Blue Lagoon'ing it" with another child actor or makes a pass at older women, the word NO creeps onto the screen.
      • Baywatch gives us an episode of Captain Thorpe in tight orange shorts, ("The Sky is Falling") followed by Bryan Cranton in tight white shorts ("Cruise Ship")
"You're going to be seeing a lot of Bryan Cranton's crotch this episode."
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Not-Hermione in The Mystical Adventures of Billy Owens. When you strip away the charm and personality, turns out.... a walking dictionary is begging to be strangled to death.
"Shut up... shutupshutup...shut up...shu— why are you alive?"
  • Big "WHAT?!":
    • Seeing one of Cynthia Rothrock's outfits in Lady Dragon 2, Allison wonders if she raided Madonna's wardrobe.
    • The great Cynthia Rothrock finally lost a battle in Fast Getaway. To Corey Haim.
"What? Tony gets a car explosion, and Cynthia Rothrock gets thrown off a truck? Bullshit!"
      (double take)
      "HE'S still alive? DOUBLE bullshit!"
    • The entire cast of Subspecies III getting invokedkilled off for leaving.
    • "Toad Serum", developed to prevent any more people from turning into frogs — in the film Frog Warrior. (Ah, well, glad we cleared that up.)
      "Oh, ok." (double take) WHAAAAAAT?"
    • Allison shouts this at the screen while watching Charmed. Numerous times.
Phoebe: Cole, it doesn't matter who you're helping. If you're using your evil powers it doesn't count.
      Allison: WAT.
      • Flat "What": The "All Just a Dream" ending to My Boyfriend's Back had this reaction.
      • Does one in the "Fatal Deviation" review, when confronted with a naked, cowboy-hat wearing man, taking a bath outside. She has no comprehension of who he is or why he is in the movie.
      • Alison's reaction to Charmed's tonal shift in Season 5.
Phoebe: Nothing perks up a girl's career like sending her husband straight to hell!
        Alison: HA HA- what.
  • Big "YES!":
  • Bizarro Episode: The concept of Manic Episodes. Invoked by Allison herself while reviewing The Little Mermaid sequel.
  • Blah, Blah, Blah:
    • The Corey Haim Translator. "Blah blah blah 90s mannerisms blah blah duuude! Goofy face!"
    • To save her viewers seven minutes of their lives ("that I will never get back"), she summarizes Howling 5 thusly:
      "Chip chip cheerio!"
"Oh I say would you be so kind?"
"I look forward to living a long healthy life!"
"Ho ho ho rich people problems."
    • Hell Comes to Frogtown in 4 words: BOOBS BOOBS AWKWARD BOOBS
  • Blooper:invoked Featured during the end credits of the review.
  • Body Horror: While watching We Wish You a Turtle Christmas, a horrified Allison shouts, "His gums! His gums! Teeth do not move separately from the rest of the mouth!"
  • Bold Inflation: When critiquing the artwork in the Charmed comics, she notes that the dialogue seemingly has every other word bolded. When quoting the comic later, she makes sure to unnaturally emphasize the bolded text.
  • Breakout Character: Her impression of Radu from the Subspecies movies has become this, to the point he earned his own series.
  • Breathless Non Sequitur: Allison has a very fast paced editing style, so a lot of the jokes can play out like this.
  • Brick Joke: Neighbor Dan being called a "greasy buttcrack poo-flap" back in the very early reviews of Charmed, which comes back in season 7 when Alison is lead to believe that the Charmed Ones killed him.
  • Broke the Rating Scale: My Boyfriend's Back manages to break the "Wackiness Meter", earning a slow clap.
    • Phoebe's selfishness grows exponentially as Charmed progresses. "I'm running out of larger quantities to measure her bitchiness by."
  • Buffy Speak: Charmed Season Six, the Daryliest of all the seasons.
    • Fittingly, she refers to the Cole storyline in season three as the show at its "trying-to-be-Buffyest."
  • The Cameo:
    • The opening of "Hard to Kill" has cameos by several of her friends and colleagues from the TGWTG forums, including Diamanda Hagan, Audible Underwear of Music Video Theater 3000, Apollo Z. Hack, and Nash of What the Fuck Is Wrong with You??
    • Her (at the time) boyfriend Jeremiah made several cameos in her videos, either as himself or other characters.
    • The Cinema Snob has a cameo at the end of Shark Attack 3, confused why his theme song was used over the end credits. He also provides the narration for the trailer of Pirahnasaur
    • In her review of the third and fourth Phantasm films, Allison is confronted by Angry Joe.
    • At the end of the Birdemic review, The Cinema Snob and Oancitizen fight off poorly-animated birds, whilst Todd in the Shadows tries to save her from them and is pecked to death off-camera. She remarks that, as far as any viewers know, Todd might be black.
    • Todd also appears as the composer of The Black Ninja's theme.
    • Todd, along with Paw Dugan and The Nostalgia Chick's friends Elisa (who along with Paw even pops up into frame to scream "CAMEO!") and Nella appear in her crossover with the Chick.
    • Linkara appears to give background on Nick Fury.
  • Canis Latinicus: In proper Latin, her name should be "Lupa Obscura".
  • Cannot Tell a Joke: Radu needs to work on his material.
"A horse walks into a bar, and the bartender is like, "'Ey, horse, get out of my bar!" And the horse is like, "Neigh", 'cause it's a horse. (beat) And the bartender's like, "I throw you out." (falls silent)
  • Cat Fight: Allison vs. The Nostalgia Chick, over Todd in the Shadows. (The former loathes him despite his love, the latter loves him despite his indifference).
  • Celebrity Paradox: Discussed in her Charmed reviews. One episode of Charmed establishes Phoebe as a big Sex and the City fan, while in that very same episode she's dating a guy who's played by an actor from Sex and the City. Allison wonders how Phoebe doesn't notice her new boyfriend looks exactly like a Sex and the City character.
  • Character Catchphrase:
  • Clingy MacGuffin: Of a sort. Allison shirks off reviewing Gooby - only for a duplicate copy to appear, freaking her out.
  • Cloudcuckoolander:
    • Tommy Wiseau and Patrick Stewart (as played by Jeremiah) are depicted as such in her reviews of The Room and Masterminds.
    • Allison herself, making videos like "Top 10 Hottest Animated Dogs" (with the rug-dog from Beauty and the Beast being number one!) or "10 Reasons Why Cool as Ice is better than Citizen Kane", and often appearing rather ditzy and offbeat in crossovers.
Allison: It's like watching an incredibly bloody car wreck. Horrible to witness, but also really funny!
The Nostalgia Critic: [speechless, and too bewildered to be fully horrified]
  • Cluster F-Bomb: Drops a major one in her cameo in Oancitizen's review of Gerry.
  • Comically Missing the Point: In "10 Reasons Why Cool As Ice is Better than Citizen Kane", she complains that it wouldn't have killed Orson Welles to throw in some color.
  • *Cough* Snark *Cough*:
    • By Season Six, Leo has become Charmed's go-to Hand Waver, explaining away plot inconsistencies in six words or less. In Season 7, the sisters go off-screen and inexplicably return with Prue's old ability to astral project (from the days when each Charmed One possessed a single unique power), which Prue guarded so jealously, she never taught it to anyone while she was alive... except for Leo, of course.
      Allison: COUGHCOUGHbullshit.
    • If you listen, she does it again in Season Eight, when Phoebe's return to work is celebrated more than the Pope's coronation and the birth of Prince George combined.
  • Covers Always Lie:
    • She mentions how the man on the cover of Vampire Assassin is not in the movie, nor is the scene depicted on the cover of 13 seconds.
    • She says that the cover of Teen Sorcery, instead of making you think the movie will be better than it is, makes it look terrible in a different way.
    • She also notes that the vampire-y looking fellow on the cover of Blood Red Moon is nowhere in the film.
  • Credits Gag: Following his five-year absence, Neighbor Dan's name appears in an evidence room dedicated to "disappeared" victims of the Halliwells. Presuming this means Dan was not merely Put on a Bus, but butchered and buried somewhere off-screen, the same fate awaits each of the sisters' one-off boyfriends. Allison declares that nothing can top this plot twist, and immediately rolls credits. (Charmed S.7)
    • She pulled this again in Season 8, after the Halliwell's manor exploded (again). First she speeds through the usual credits, then blares "Don't Stop Believin'" as the sisters lie bleeding, then finally plays the segue music from Clue before returning to the show.
    • Jill's Nancy Drew-style mystery plot is roundly mocked, especially when she takes her sugar daddy at his word when he says he hasn't murdered anyone, honest. Case closed, Matlock music up and out. (Baywatch: "The Drowning Pool")
  • Creepy Long Fingers: When acting as Radu from Subspecies in her "Radu Reviews" segments.
  • Crossover:
  • Crossover Ship: Invoked in Allison Reads Her Barbie Fanfic due to her Ariel doll having a boyfriend with the same name as Brock.
  • Curse Cut Short: Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation leads to several cases of Allison going "FUUUUUU —"
  • Dance Party Ending: Teen Sorcery and Sleepy Hollow High ended with this, so Allison joins in. When in Rome...
  • Death Is a Slap on the Wrist: In addition to Charmed frequently having Disney Death moments, she takes umbrage with the later seasons having anyone (who isn't Shannen Doherty), being easily able to come back as a ghost or a Whitelighter, rendering death itself practically meaningless within the show.
Allison: Grandma ghost can't stay in her coffin long enough for anyone to miss her!
  • Department of Redundancy Department:
    • A "before-they-were-famous" Hillary Swank in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She's won Academy Awards and Oscars.
    • In her review of Howling New Moon Rising she refers to two characters as Inspector Detective and Father Priest.
    • "That's the official name by the way. 'Ass Blasters™.' They're called 'Ass Blasters™.' Officially."
  • Determinator: Crowfoot, the Kate Hodge TV pilot so awful, it was buried at the ends of the Earth. They didn't bury it deep enough.
Allison: I am nothing if not sad, creepy, and determined.
  • Deus ex Machina: Stated as being the preferred method of fixing problems on Charmed, and directly calls Leo the show's favorite Deus Ex Machina. Even has a catchphrase for it: "Makes it easy!"
  • Dissimile: "[The Black Ninja] is like Daredevil, only he's not blind and doesn't have superpowers."
  • Dissonant Laughter:
    • She did chuckle at the elderly, wheelchair-bound man getting electrocuted in Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.. So the film wasn't a total loss.
    • After the hero of Gymkata accidentally kicks a random pedestrian in the face while swinging from a bar, she giggles and says "I have no words."
    • "Grams" Halliwell being eaten alive by a wolf.
  • Designated Hero: In-Universe.
    • In Magic Island, she notes that the "buccaneer" heroes basically have the same goal as the "pirate" villains; the only difference seems to be if they want the treasure to spend or just for the adventure of getting it.
    • She considers the Charmed Ones this, since they hate saving innocents and do all in their power to avoid helping others. As she lampshades, Season 8 had an apocalypse, and they still had to freeze Leo because Piper wouldn't have done anything to stop it unless it interfered with her "normal life".
  • Distinction Without a Difference: "I'm not saying Baywatch is homoerotic, but it's exactly what I'm saying."
  • Dramatic Reading: The Sylvester Stallone Chaos Pen. Get yours now.
  • Dude Magnet:
    • At the very least, she has Todd in the Shadows and Nash's little animated stickman pining after her. Lampshaded in her cameos in the Linkara/Phelous crossover review of The AirZone Solution?, after one tries to get her to recreate a bedroom scene.
    • Also according to Suburban Knights and Welshy's Killjoy review, The Nostalgia Critic, Bennett the Sage, Angry Joe and Welshy also have a thing for her.
    • The opening for Linkara's Rise of Arsenal #3&4 review adds another notch.
Welshy: Oh my god! She got another one. Film Brain now is in love with Obscurus Lupa.
    • Her crossover review of Simon Sez with The Critic added '90s Kid, for a "Poor Literacy is Kewl!" joke.
'90s Kid: Hey can I do the crossover with you guys?
      Nostalgia Critic: No!
'90s Kid: But I wrote a script. Here i'll read it to you: Allison and 90s Kid start making out. No wait, that's my fanfiction. Oh here it is! 90s Kid and Allison start making out!
    • The Blockbuster Buster's Nerdlinger faints everytime a poster of Allison pops up. Even ERod uses this to make Nerdlinger stop interrupting.
ERod: I wonder why only nerdy goobers are attracted to this girl.
  • Dude, Not Funny!:
    • Her in-universe reaction to Johnny laughing at Mark's story in The Room about a woman ending up in a hospital.
Allison: ...Is that really a laughing moment?
    • She is not amused by the Black Comedy Rape in The Black Ninja.
    • She also gets pretty angry with the "Running Gag" in Monster High (not to be confused with the other Monster High) where the villain is depicted raping and killing teenage girls.
  • Dull Surprise: Jeremiah.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • invokedShe says that the woman in Zombie Nation who inexplicably delivers a Cluster F-Bomb because Joe Singer refuses to sell her a sofa is her favorite character in the film.
    • She also remarks the father figure in Vampire Assassin is the best actor, and is annoyed he only has two scenes. (And with good reason: He's Dolemite!!)
      • In the same movie, some random biker from the police lineup winds up kicking more ass than anyone, despite learning vampires exist two minutes ago. Allison wishes he was the hero instead.
    • In Howling New Moon Rising she's far, far more enamored with one of the townsfolk named Pappy than she is with any of the main characters.
    • Radu from the Subspecies series was such an awesome character that he's now the star of his own review series (with Allison portraying him, of course.)
    • Billy Drago's gun-slinging monster hunter in Tremors 4: The Legend Begins. Allison grouchily remarks that a movie vehicle starring him would be much better.
    • The many faces of Detectives Lutz and Garner. (Witchcraft)
      • invokedCurrently, her favorites are Stephanie Beaton as Lutznote  and Mikul Robins a.k.a. the "third regeneration" (and definitive) Garner.
    • Baywatch's Trevor. You know, it's just possible that he might be from Australia.
    • She is inordinately fond of Baywatch's other bit players, like real-life heroes "Newmie" Newman and "Shippy McBoatington" (actually Greg Barnett, legendary stuntman with a mile-long IMBD page).
    • In her Charmed reviews, she spends a lot of time talking about Daryl and Neighbor Dan. She also complains that later seasons become "The Phoebe/Piper Show" while neglecting Leo and Paige, main characters who are comparably less evil.
  • Everyone Is Related: Fresh off the revaluation that the Police Chief is the father of Undefeatable's male leads (at least according to Godfrey Ho's Chinese dub), Ed Glaser pops up to reveal that he's Allison's long-lost brother.
    Ed: Hehe, what a schmuck.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending:
  • Evil Overlooker: Phoebe (or is it Piper?) Halliwell in the title card for Charmed Season Four.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Baywatch episode titles in Germany, where eferythink must be matter-of-fact und literal! Do not geev me dis vordplay, just zell me vut happint! ("Second Wave")
  • Eyepatch of Power: Worn while reviewing Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD. When in Rome...
  • Facepalm:
    • Lou Ferrigno stumbling around sleepily, lying down, and then being held up by a gun-toting frog whose only line of dialog is RIBBIT." (cut to Allison burying her face in her hands)
    • Howling 7: New Moon Rising
"This isn't blood on the man's shirt, it's red paint!"
"Paint would cover blood on a man's shirt."
      Allison: (slaps forehead)
  • Fanservice: Allison strips down to a sports bra for her battle with Angry Joe at the end of her series of Phantasm reviews.
    • Then there's her review of Showgirls 2: Penny's From Heaven, where she spends the first minute wearing nothing but a Censor Box across her chest, then spends the rest of the review in an open jean jacket with her bra showing.
  • Fan Disservice: As much as Allison digs her movies, she describes Rothrock's loves scenes as walking in on your parents doing it. (Lady Dragon 2, Fast Getaway)
Allison: So she and Tony are... *gulp* "waiting" for Sam and Nelson to *retch* rob Webster so they can...
    Rothrock: C'mere, my stallion!
    Allison: BLUAAAAGH
    • Like many, she was horrified by the shot of Tommy Wiseau's naked ass in The Room.
    • She's squicked by the painfully awkward sex scene in Razor Sharpe.
    • She's grossed out in X-treme Fighter by a computer programme designed by Jack's father which begins hitting on him.(!)
Allison: What is this, Flowers in the Attic?
    • She finds it a little creepy that Cynthia Rothrock's character in Angel of Fury befriending a girl named Sarah. She cut to a picture of Chris Hansen saying "OK boys, I'm going in."
    • The revelation that Leo was plowing Grams Halliwell in the sixties. Yep, there's an image we needed. (Charmed s.6)
"Why, Charmed? Why do you do this me??"
    • Season 8 had this steamy bit of flopsweat— er, fanservice:
Phoebe: (at Piper's new body) I think you look hot. ...Hey, we're not sisters anymore, remember? We're "cousins."
Allison: (as Phoebe) And cousins can fuck all they want!
    • Purposely invoked in Baywatch, a series which seemingly revolves around Barely-There Swimwear. She torpedoes every lingering shot with a snarky remark or a loud belch.
      • Lest you think Baywatch is guilty of ageism, "The Sky is Falling" brings us Captain Thorpe's scantily-clad midlife crisis.
"Can we not spend copious amounts of time staring at Captain Thorpe's balls?"
  • Fate Worse than Death: Allison traps Angry Joe in Gerry.
    • Allison reckons meeting The Charmed Ones is akin to this.
  • Fauxshadow: Points out in The Howling: Reborn reboot once lines have been revealed as fauxshadowing, there needs to be another reason why the characters would have said them.
  • Fight Scene Failure:invoked She was accidentally punched in the face by Brad Jones, he meant to fake it but the hit connected.
  • Film Felons: She was thoroughly unimpressed by the application of this trope in Razor Sharpe, pointing out that Sharpe should really have been more suspicious of the fact that the "film" he was in lacked a script, rehearsals and really almost everything you need to make a film.
  • Flanderization: When she initially started, Allison's personality was rather restrained. However, following her Honour & Glory crossover with The Nostalgia Chick, her reviewer personality became far more goofier and over the top, especially in her crossovers with Oancitizen and FilmBrain. However, she stayed the same in her solo reviews.
  • Follow the Leader:
    • Remarks that Teen Sorcery is an attempt to ride on the coat-tails of The Craft, but instead of tackling issues like corruption and abuse of power, they decided to make it kid friendly.
    • Points out that Vampire Assassin is so much of a Blade rip-off even the poster is a knock off of the one for Blade 2.
  • Foreshadowing: Is annoyed by it frequently happening in The Fly II.
  • Forgotten Fallen Friend: Billy, Jake's partner of eight years in Stakes, is forgotten about pretty quickly.
  • Formally-Named Pet: The Hetero Normative Crusader's pet cat in Ben & Arthur. "Did you here that, Mr. McFluffycross? He wants to go to college!"
  • Fourth-Wall Mail Slot: Annual Christmas "gifts" from Fuckface.
  • Fridge Logic: Invoked in Charmed, when she wonders who wrote the Power of Three spells before the Charmed Ones existed and how they knew they'd even work, since no-one else could use them? Or if you can simply substitute one of their relatives to make the spell work, what precisely makes the Charmed Ones so special anyway?
  • Freudian Excuse: Notices this in both Undefeatable and Zombie Nation to which she remarks, "Not another antagonist with mommy issues."
  • Fun with Acronyms: Irrational Hick Townsfolk, or "eeht." (China O'Brien)
  • Funny Background Event: Ash and Checkers love to interrupt shooting. Lampshaded in the stinger for Rapid Fire.
"Oooh mah naym's Ash! I luv ruinin all teh takez! Imma be in moviez an have mah own trailuh!"
    • When the Little Miss Gamer lookalike bites the dust, Allison's cat appears to salute as well. (Blood Red Moon)
  • Gag Censor: Allison obeys the letter of the law, if not the spirit. When Scott Shaw objected to her reviews of his films, she posted them again... only this time, with crude MSPaint renderings of Shaw's footage, vocal imitations of the sound effects, and an impromptu rap at the end.
  • Gag Dub:
    • Steven Seagal Explains: The Glimmer Man.
"That's one tough shit. Or, Shit happens, Captain."
    • In Mindwarp, Angus Scrimm starts talking like Scuttle as he inspects some junk.
    • Same goes for "Karate Dad", who, when tearing apart his son's exercise equipment, starts talking like King Trident when he dynamited Ariel's stuff. (No Retreat, No Surrender)
  • Genki Girl:
  • Gibberish of Love: Todd in the Shadows screws up yet another attempt to ask her out in her Honor and Glory review with The Nostalgia Chick.
  • Good-Times Montage: Allison shares some girl bonding time with Cythia Rothrock — sort of. Actually, she spends the montage chatting and prancing around with a bunch of Rothrock DVDs. (A Seagal film somehow slips into the pile, but Allison throws it aside.)
    • "A Man For All Seasons" plays out Witchcraft 4, as Charles Soloman Junior takes his final bow. In many ways, he was too good for the Witchcraft series... which is horrifying to contemplate.
    • Charmed got a few, including a capstone montage in the finale. It consists of dodgy FX and narm-y (read: series-defining) moments from the whole run.
    • As a tearful farewell, Charmed's Daryl got "I Will Always Love You" set to him repeatedly furrowing his brow and being thrown into things.
    • "Phoebe Phashion" got it's own heartfelt montage as well, this time showcasing her entire deplorable clothing line during this eight-season siege. The music? "Devil in a Blue Dress" by the Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels.
    • Lutz and Garner (all six of them) received an " In memoriam" featuring Sarah Mclachlan. (Witchcraft XI)
  • Gosh Darn It to Heck!: "Oh, horse hooey!"
  • HA HA HA—No:
    • Her reaction to Pocket Ninja's attempts at 'humor'. Before long, Allison's chuckles have devolved into sobs.
    • The hip-shaking karate mooks in X-Treme Fighter wear out their welcome fast.
    • And so Corey Haim learns his lesson and decides to lead a law-abiding life with his family. Oh wait, did I say 'lesson learned'? I meant that they don't learn a damn thing. (Fast Getaway)
"HAHAHA it's fun when your movie goes in circles!"
    • Return to Frogtown's "Everybody Laughs" Ending.
      "HAHAHAHA go fuck yourself."
    • Burt's ancestor, Hiram Gummer. Hiram. Gummer. (Tremors 4: The Legend Begins)
"HAHAHA it's funny cause he's not as entertaining or likable! YEAH!"
    • Her reaction to a llama in Adventures of Bailey, Christmas Hero being called "Dolly the Llama".
      "Yuk yuk. Shoot me now."
    • Inverted with Charmed: Paige seems more interested in Piper's prison jumpsuit than her impending life sentence, but Allison maintains an even keel of indifference.
Paige: Aww, honey, orange is so not your color.
Allison: HAHAHAHA I hope she's sent to death row.
    • A running gag each time someone gets the better of Mitch Buchannon. Mitch grimaces in reply.
"Hahahaha looks like someone's getting sacrificed to Poseidon for their insolence."
  • Hair Flip: At the end of Desire, to match the film's thrillingly erotic mood.
  • Happy Dance:
    • Two Front Teeth:
"Zombie elves, zombie elves, this is a movie with zombies elves ♪"
    • When Bernard and the Genie turns out to be more...Kafkaesque than expected, Allison tries distracting everybody by dancing to "Mr. Success" again.
  • Hey, That's My Line!: Allison mimicking Oan's "Huzzah!"
Oan: Only I get to say "huzzah."
  • Highly-Visible Ninja: She is amused that in Gymkata there are ninjas whose only purpose is to hold the flags during The Game.
Allison: That's got to be the most humiliating thing. You spend your whole life training to be a ninja and what do they hire you for? To hold the flag.
  • Hilarious Outtakes: Usually occur before The Stinger.
  • Hollywood Darkness: She is pretty critical about Blood Red Moon's attempt at this.
  • Hope Spot:
    • Allison's Law always obtains: If it sounds like a cool idea, Charmed will find a way to make it stupid. She uses this statement as a bumper to each Myth Arc the series puts forward. (see seasons 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.)
    • On the upside, you can rely on the show to take an awful idea and...er, "make it worse." (s.8)
  • Hopeless with Tech: Radu.
"Michelle! Show me how to Google!"
  • Ho Yay: In-Universe.
"The natural place to go from there is a homoerotic scene where Bolt arm wrestles in the shower."
    • The Nostalgia Chick's musical review of Les Misérables features Allison and Elisa singing Marius and Cosette's romantic duet in "One Day More", as deliberate baiting of TGWTG's Slash Fic-writing fans.
    • Her fangirling over Cynthia Rothrock/Kate Hodge probably deserves a mention, too.
    • When reviewing Fast Getaway, she interprets the relationship between Nelson and his dad a little differently than the filmmakers intended.
  • Human Shield: Takes Nella hostage when the Nostalgia Chick tries to murder her with a butter knife. Nella's shocked at her "rudeness", and Allison immediately apologizes.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: Why does Cynthia Rothrock warrant such attention? Well, she has five blackbelts, she's the inspiration for Sonya Blade, she kicks ass, and she didn't need to take her clothes off to— *BUZZER NOISE*
    • Halfway into Vampire Cop:
"Look movie, if you wanna be a porn, just be a porn. There's no audience for this. (beat) Except me."
    • Similarly, after ribbing Billy Owens for sponging off J.K. Rowling:
(deadpan) "Now let's rip on this terrible kid's movie because I can't make my own."
  • Hypocritical Heartwarming/Pretender Diss: invoked
    • Fireman Greg, I knew Neighbor Dan.
Neighbor Dan was a friend of mine.
You, sir, are no Neighbor Dan.
Allison: Fireman Greg only wishes he could be Neighbor Dan. But only ONE man could master such levels of superfluousness!
  • Hypocritical Humour:
    • She pokes fun of Zombie Nation for using headshots of its actresses during a news segment. Immediately afterwards, her own headshot appears on-screen.
    • It turns out her review of 13 seconds is.... All Just a Dream.
    • Radu's terrified description of "that long-haired goon", Tommy Wiseau.
"I wouldn't want to run into someone like that in a dark alley, let me tell you."
    • Laughing at Kate Hodge getting jilted over the phone and swigging wine. "What a loser!" Allison proceeds to swig wine and frown at her phone while "The Lonely Man" plays.
    • A frustrated Oan asks why she has Buffy the Vampire Slayer memorized down to the last detail. Allison scoffs that saw "a bit" of it. This of course triggers a flashback cut to 90s!Allison gorging on chips and sobbing.
    • She does a list of "The Top 10 Hottest Animated Dogs", but acts sickened at people who find the mice from The Great Mouse Detective to be attractive.
"Eww! You actually thought that? No, it's the fucking dog you weirdo. I can't even ... I'm scared to continue with this list now; I feel like a bunch of perverts are watching."
    • Radu scoffs at Super Christian for still living with his mother, only to be shouted at by his own "mommy" (also the show's producer).
    • He then complains about the sequel, which shows the first Super Christian playing on a film projector. "They're riffing their own movie? Who the hell does that?" (cut to Radu watching Subspecies)
      "The Bloodstone is mine!" (SPLORK!)
Radu: Hah! Stefan, what an idiot! Heh heh! That is classic Radu.

    I-Q
  • I Love the Smell of X in the Morning: Blood Red Moon
(inhales loudly) Mmm... smells like ripoff.
  • I Know Karate: The number of people in Undefeatable that turn out to know martial arts leads Allison to declare she would not be surprised if it turned out a kid in a grocery store scene turned out to know karate too.
  • I Remember It Like It Was Yesterday: She begins her tenth episode saying it feels like only four months ago when she started. This is followed by a montage of her previous reviews. Subverted when Apollo Z. Hack phones to point out ten episodes is not a big achievement, particularly when The Nostalgia Critic did a hundred episodes.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: Allison gets a bit defensive when MikeJ acquaints Witchcraft 5's effects with MS Paint.
  • Ice-Cream Koan: She was extremely confused by the bizarre ramblings about "fate and destiny" delivered by the villain of Vampire Assassin.
Slovak: Fate and destiny are but two sides of a worthless coin that should be given to a beggar on skid row!
Allison: WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOOOOOUUUT
  • Inelegant Blubbering: American Ninja 4 almost broke her.
  • Inherently Funny Words: "Squiddelydoo"
  • Inferred Holocaustinvoked: Vampegeddon has its heroine, Liz, get possessed by the ghost of the (male) vampire hunter Longshank. At the end of the film, she's still being possessed, and it's implied it's a permanent effect.
Allison: Haha! I guess Liz has faded out of existence, then.
    • Invoked in the Charmed reviews about Piper's casual removal of the Golden Gate Bridge with people still on it. Later this extends to pretty much everything Wyatt does, since the Cleaners who's job it is to enforce the masquerade can't bring people back to life, meaning a lot of people died when Wyatt summoned the Dragon that lay waste to San Francisco.
    • Other, smaller examples include the sisters' causal "racism" against leprechauns, and the trauma of faking their deaths (complete with a wake) with Piper's kids in attendance, standing around in formal wear with uncomprehending looks on their faces.
  • Insult Backfire: Tommy Wiseau gives "the best response I've ever gotten for Radu Reviews."
  • Insult to Rocks:
    • Regarding Ulli Lommel, the director of Zombie Nation Allison quips he is like Uwe Boll, except Uwe Boll has funding.
    • She says that The Room is this generation's Troll 2, but that would be a disservice to Troll 2.
    • Accordingly, Ben & Arthur is viewed by some as the gay counterpart to The Room. "But at least The Room was filmed decently."
    • Birdemic: The Birds as directed by Tommy Wiseau, if Tommy Wiseau knew nothing about sound editing.
"Amazon Trail 2 is looking down on you right now."
    • Charmed sets back the women's movement fifty years. The same might be said for guys, but they rarely let the men have any personality, even for that.
  • Ironic Echo: "The PLOT! Was LOST! IN DA RIVAAAAH!!!
    • The kitty in Sesame Street Christmas has no home; he "belongs to the garbage cans and alleys of the world", which is where Allison reckons this movie belongs.
    • invoked In Charmed S.6, Phobe poses a question which has "baffled women since of beginning time": Why are men such poopyheads?
Allison: Hey Phoebe, maybe you can help me understand something that's baffled women since the beginning of time: Why do they continue to be represented by shows that think a woman shouldn't even tell a dude she's breaking up with him before jumping on the date wagon? Why do they set up a double standard that makes all of us look stupid?
  • Ironic Hell:
  • It Makes As Much Sense In Context: During her Witchcraft VII review, she plays a nonsensical sequence, then says "You're waiting for context. Here (opens her fist to reveal nothing) I have none!"
  • The Jeeves: Jerimiah in the Hard to Kill review.
Allison: You call this a Dr. Pepper? It's completely flat!
Jeremiah: (sticks straw in soda, blows into it)
  • Just a Stupid Accent: Shark Attack 3 is set Mexico "where everyone speaks English, but with a slight accent".
  • Jump Cut: A frequent peeve. She does this herself in her review of Undefeatable
  • Kaleidoscope Hair: The commentary for Undefeatable explained that she had been changing her hair color regularly for most of her life, and that her first few videos (including Undefeatable) caught her at a rare moment when she had returned to her natural color.
  • Kick the Dog: Her cat Ash is often very mistreated. During a review of one of theHowling movies, she threw her cat outside to face whatever dangerous monster is lurking outside her house. She also tends to make fun and insult talking animals (particularly dogs) in kids' movies.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: When hearing about The Adventure of Pluto Nash's use of the pseudo-word "lunartic", she grumbles because the origins of the word lunatic originally meant moon-induced insanity.
  • Lampshaded Double Entendre:
    • Corey Haim teaching a girl how to drive stick. "It's kinda like this, it's in an' out, in and..."
Allison: (In case you missed the double entendre, the stick is his penis.)
    • City Dragon: MC Kung Fu's groin getting a Wayne's World Extreme Zoom.
"I don't see what they're implying. Perhaps if they did something more obvious than shoving his penis at the camera."
    • The truth be told, for Billy [Owens] on his eleventh birthday, his "motor skills" weren't the only thing at their "peak of development."
      Allison: (...Also his penis?)
    • Billy Owens was also referenced on Baywatch's "Message in a Bottle", featuring uncomfortable sexual tension between underage actors.
Underage Girlfriend: You were really creaming me.
      Allison: Erm....
  • Large Ham: Specially when she's doing guest voicework. Or playing Radu.
  • Layman's Terms: Erotic Thriller, "which is just Fancypants talk for 'thin plot revolved around boobs but classier than porn."
  • Leave the Camera Running: A few scenes in Teen Sorcery go like this, which makes Allison agitated and yell "This is awkward!"
  • Limited Wardrobe: The characters in Blood Red Moon also appear to wear the same outfits for days on end.
  • Losing Horns: Subverted - City Dragon winds up doing Allison's job for her.
"You know, if I don't have to work in the Price is Right horn myself, you're doing something wrong, movie."
  • Lost Episode: Due to falling out with Doug Walker and Brad Jones, Allison no longer hosts her collaboration episodes with Doug or Brad.
  • Love Triangle: Kinda, as everyone is abhorred by the person in the receiving end... The Nostalgia Chick —> Todd in the Shadows —> Allison. A bit of Reality Subtext, as the Chick and Todd were dating in Real Life.
  • Made Myself Sad: During her Howling V review, after a character makes a particularly bad joke:
Allison: Hear that? That's the sound of the joke bombing- a sound I know all too well... (Beat) (makes sad face)
  • Mad Libs Catchphrase: "You didn't even try, (movie title)!"
    • "And you know what that means: A hardcore [mundane task] montage!" Examples include "political campaigning" and "studying."
    • "Steven Seagal's" Bond One Liners. Often strays into Metaphorgotten. (The Glimmer Man)
    • YOUR [noun]! WAS LOST! IN DA RIVAAAAAH!!
    • "...Da (villain)!" *ominous music sting* *extreme zoom-in* (Misaimed on the side of her mouth.)
    • "There won't be another ____ for months!"
  • Madness Makeover: Allison desperately keeps trying to spice up American Ninja 4's fights, to little effect. Eventually, she starts grinning madly, repeating "I can still save it!" while her hair becomes unkempt.
  • Magical Native American: Refers to Dakota from China O Brien as Helpful Magical Native American Stereotype.
    • Shows up again in her review of Adventure of Bailey, Christmas Hero, where the main characters search for a "Magical Native American Chief". As she puts it:
This came out in 2012, people! Did we time travel back to The '90s when every movie thought Native Americans were like ghosts or genies?
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: While girlier than The Nostalgia Chick who also has this dynamic with the Critic, she's the masculine girl to Critic's feminine boy in both Suburban Knights and their crossover.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: A Day In The Life of Tommy Wiseau has multiple contributors from TGWTG (Doug Walker, The Cinema Snob, Phelous, Linkara and Todd in the Shadows) appearing as multiple versions of Tommy Wiseau. (Todd just imitates him... while everyone else has a Wiseau wig!)
  • Mean Boss:
    • Played with for her Peewee's Christmas Special.
    • Makes MarzGurl search for a positive letter from the huge pile of hate mail for her.
    • As seen with kitsune and Andrew Dickman's fight (both her title card artists for Obscurus Lupa Presents and Manic Episodes), Allison only pays Dickman.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Allison's name is an aversion, as she explained that her name does not mean she only does obscure movies, it is Latin for "Dark She-Wolf". Basically, her name should've been obscura Lupa). It is rather unfortunate, though, that Lupa was also Latin slang for "prostitute".
    • She sarcastically goes "subtle movie" during her Teen Sorcery review when we find out the love interest's surname is Charming.
  • Medal of Dishonor:
    • The Obscurus Lupa Seal of Approval. (Eyes of the Werewolf)
    • Crowfoot deserves an award for Half-Baked Ideas and Personifying the Nineties.
    • The World's Greatest Extra in Charmed S.8.
  • Men Are Uncultured: Inverted in her crossover review of Hamlet the Vampire Slayer with Oancitizen. She's excited about the vampire drama and poop jokes while Kyle panics over what's been done to William Shakespeare.
  • Metaphorgotten: Use when describing the plot of The Black Ninja: "The plot goes like so: it's Daredevil, but he isn't blind, and doesn't have superpowers. Yep. That's it."
  • Missing Mom / Disappeared Dad: In her Prehysteria review, she coins this "Carcanceritis":
    Car-cancer-itis
    Noun
When an absent parent in a movie or TV show, usually the mother, dies of cancer, a car accident, or unexplained causes.
  • Mistaken for Profound: Almost, but not quite; The Amazing Bulk is so ineptly made, Allison wonders if she's accidentally bumbled into an art film. "Should Oancitizen be reviewing this?"
    • In the penultimate video for the Charmed reviews, Allison is struck by the realization that the entire series has been an elaborate chess game by Aaron Spelling and Brad Kern: We are presented with three protagonists, blessed with unbridled magical potential and destined for greatness. Gradually, however, the sisters are seduced by their power and become corrupt, leading to the creation of three Darth Vaders. Against all odds, their protégé and her sister, who was raised by evil, must rise up and destroy these fallen heroes who stand ready to destroy the very world they were intended to save. Fin.
(excitedly) "The villains were the heroes, a-and the heroes were the villains!...or maybe the show is just fucking moronic, you choose."
  • Moment Killer:
    • Qualifies even if it's not a romantic moment. Allison and Film Brain decide to part ways when after the review is finished Todd in the Shadows emerges from the bed behind them.
    • In another non-romantic moment, Allison and The Nostalgia Chick are friendly after watching Hope And Glory together, until Todd appears and Allison's stinging rejection of him causes the Chick to attack her.
  • Moose and Maple Syrup: While reviewing Teen Sorcery after hearing Michael's pronunciation of "sorry". Allison, dressed in winter wear, says "I'm definitely not Canadian."
  • Mundane Made Awesome:
    • In keeping with the site-wide Running Gag, she tends to play "Ghost Love Score" whenever she deems it necessary, such as a fight scene in Vampire Assassin where a secondary character who never even gets a name punches out a vampire while dragging the unconscious protagonist with the other hand.
    • Allison did a dramatic, 9-minute long reading of the description of a limited edition pen designed by Sylvester Stallone from the manufacturer's website ... just see for yourself here.
  • Musical Episode: Alien Apocalypse
  • Musical Gag: A big issue she has with Razor Sharpe was its cheaply-choreographed battles, particularly as it was made to show off the star's fighting abilities. It gets to the point where Allison declares she can choreograph a better fight scene, we then cut to her and her friends fighting with toy guns set to "Ghost Love Score."
"This was not supposed to happen! ...I could be reviewing Witchcraft 138 right now!"
    • At the conclusion of that review, Billie —lauded by Allison as the New Hope of the Charmed universe— is treated to Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero" during her final, no-holds barred knuckle fight with the last surviving Halliwell (the Alpha and Omega), Piper.
    • (Actually, Billie winds up killing her last surviving family member and collapsing in shock, causing the Charmed Ones to bob their heads to "Sucks to Be You" by Prozzäk.)
    • Replaying Dragon's Sound opening song ("Friends for eternity, loyalty, honesty!") during a gory katana battle with High-Pressure Blood and corpses left floating in streams. (Miami Connection)
"It's time for our heroes to peace the shit out of them."
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: The credits to her crossover review with the Nostalgia Chick include "Special thanks to Nella, Elisa and Paw. (Oh, and Todd in the Shadows, whatever)."
  • My God, You Are Serious!: The line, "Since when is Phoebe cold-hearted?" actually makes Allison laugh herself to tears. (Charmed S.5)
  • My New Gift Is Lame: Christmas on Sesame Street, a gift from one of her 'fans'.
  • Name McAdjective: Another Once per Episode trope. Here are the more notable ones:
"But before that, he had Desire!"
  • Narm: In-Universe She had a fit of giggles at Johnny's suicide in The Room. She has a similar reaction to Sarah's murder in Angel of Fury.
    • The first time the CGI birds appear in Birdemic also elicits this response.
  • Narm Charm: Often invoked, as she'll conclude that a film had nonsensical writing, laughable effects and silly acting, which is exactly why it's so entertaining.
  • Never Speak Ill of the Dead: She openly mocks Diamanda Hagan for being dead in her Fatal Deviation review. Of course, for Hagan, Death Is Cheap.
  • The Nicknamer: See "Name McAdjective" above.
    • Over the course of the Charmed reviews, she took to referring to Phoebe as "AskPhobe" or "The Great Phoebe One." Grams is usually referred to as "Grandma Ghost." The girls' beefcake boyfriends are less fortunate, being re-branded "Neighbor Dan", "Poop" (his name is Coop, but "I don't care, that's why I get paid to be a critic and you don't"), and "Nick Lackey."
    • She gropes for words to describe the diehard fans, affectionately known as "Charmed...ers. (beat) Charm-hards. (beat) Charmanders." (S.8)note
  • Nightmare Fuel: Allison and Iron Liz's in-universe reaction to the "children's" movie Gooby.
  • No Ending: The story that Allison reads in Allison Reads Her Barbie Fanfic. Fortunately, she finds another story to share as compensation.
  • Non-Actor Vehicle: Gymkata is such a film which prompts Allison to state, "Just because you're an athlete doesn't mean you're an actor."
    • She's reviewed a slew of these, including City Dragon, Razor Sharpe and Vampire Assassin. Cynthia Rothrock started out this way too, but has at least made a career out of it.
  • Noodle Incident: Her explanation for taking a sabbatical between Witchcraft reviews. "So it turns out I became a lumberjack."
  • Not Brainwashed: At the end of Evil Dead 2, the rest of Channel Awesome become Deadites to heckle Allison's directorial style. Except for the Snob — he's not possessed, he's just an ass.
  • "Not Making This Up" Disclaimer:
    • She stresses that yes, a setting that is clearly a warehouse is meant to be a police station in Zombie Nation.
    • Yes, the father from Bloody Mary Killer is infamous film producer Godfrey Ho.
    • We shit you not:invoked Anti-Neighbor Dans are actually a thing. (Charmed S.2)
    • PMS werewolves. PMS werewolves! (shakes camera) PMS WEREWOLVES!! (Charmed S.7)
      • From the same year: A secret order of immortals who have been plotting the removal of free will for over 2000 years are talked out of the plan... in the span of time it takes to make popcorn.
    • "They kill the main villain by blowing up his fart." (Traxx)
  • Obligatory Joke: Howling 7 is simply begging for an acoustic cover of "Thriller".
    • "Lets sink our teeth into Stakes!"
    • Zombie Nation should stay buried.
    • No review of a Roddy Piper flick is complete without "And I'm all outta ass"... wait. (Hell Comes to Frogtown, The Mystical Adventures of Billy Owens)

"I'm sorry, it was low-hanging fruit, I had to do it!! I'm nothing but a hack!!"
    • A Graboid accidentally burrowing headfirst into a sawblade — "Giving it some ''food for thought!"
      "Geddit? 'Cause the brain..."
    • Upon seeing a bowl of human fingers in Alien Apocalypse, Allison cheerfully says "Finger food!"
    • Silver Bullet:
    *swipe!* "EEK!" *splat* (head rolling)
Allison: ..Oh, by the way, there's some violence in this. Just a heads up. Eh? EH??
    • John's silly Dracula collar in Witchcraft. "Vone! Two! Fee dead bodies! Ah! Ah! Ah!"
    • There's also her reaction to Phoebe's masked attacker...
"Turns out it's an even worse evil...(removes mask to reveal a Phoebe doppelganger) BOOM!"
    • And her response to Phoebe's speculation that, just maybe, she should stop giving advice to people on how to find love until she finds some herself...
      Allison: (...or know the concept.)
Allison!Pheobe: Love is celebrating two birthdays, right?
    • Billy Zane's strained attempt at kissing up to the Charmed Ones. He gets smacked down by none other than Derek Zoolander himself.
    • "The Drowning Pool" (Baywatch) opens how you'd expect.
    • In Miami Connection, a gang of toughs usher the heroine inside with a breathy, "Salami," pointing at each others' junk. "Pickles," Allison shoots back (in the same inflection).
  • Off-the-Shelf FX:
    • Much to Allison's disbelief, a GameCube is used as a prop in a science lab in X-treme Fighter. Even worse, the virtual reality helmet is a bicycle helmet with Christmas lights on it. This prompts her to apologize to Stakes for making fun of their CGI.
    • Also, in Hercules in New York Film Brain points out the crystal ball is "the clearest fish bowl the props crew could find".
  • One-Woman Wail:
    • The Stallone Chaos Montegrippa Pen™.
    • Plays again when Ed Glaser reveals he's Allison's brother.
  • Only One Name: Remarks that Dakota from China O Brien has only one name- like Cher or Madonna.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Allison loves bad movies and she usually has something positive to say about them. If Allison is angered or crying because of a movie's badness (e.g: Pocket Ninjas, Monster High), it's usually a good sign of how awful the film is.
  • Our Vampires Are Different:
    • Vampire Assassin presents vampires who shoot lightning when they are staked.
    • "Oh yeah, I forgot about the part of vampire mythology where they always keep clubs from the 1980s in the basement."
  • Our Zombies Are Different: The zombies in Zombie Nation look relatively normal, talk and can drive cars. What bugs Allison is that the cover depicts a stereotypical decaying zombie.
  • Overly Narrow Superlative:
    • "So, anyone who wanted to see William Shatner's daughter naked: You're welcome." (Subspecies 2)
    • The blurb for City Dragon reads, "The greatest rapping martial arts movie ever made."
    • Bernard and the Genie - the most epic Scotsman-Genie romance story in history.
    • Vampire Cop - For people too ashamed to rent porn, but shameless enough to rent something called "Vampire Cop."
  • Paint It Black: Following a two-month hiatus, the show returned with a brown-haired, leather-clad, fingerless glove-clad "Dark Allison." (Witchcraft 8)
  • Paper-Thin Disguise:
    • In Undefeatable she scoffs at Stingray disguising himself as "the beefest doctor of all time" and the psychologist falling for it.
Allison: Come on, the mullet alone should have tipped you off lady.
    • Allison is underwhelmed that in Lady Dragon 2 all Cynthia Rothrock has to do is put on an unconvincing wig for the people who assaulted her earlier in the film not to recognize her.
  • Parody Episode: The Little Mermaid 2 review.
  • Pet-Peeve Trope: She's reviewed three movies so far that ended as All Just a Dream. Every one prompted a rant about this.
  • Phrase Catcher: "EWW! EWW! EWW! EWW!" for Desire's smell-happy serial killer.
    • Also, Kate Hodge's lovestruck victim-to-be: "YOU EEEDIOT."

    • The monsters in 13 Seconds are "freakin' ridiculous. Freakdiculous, even."
    • Aliens vs. Avatars, a combination of sad and awesome. "Sawesome, if you will."
    • Charmed's special effects range in quality from "amazeballs" to "fanterrible".
  • Power Trio: Jokes about this in 13 seconds with their fake band- when a CD cover of them appear she captions it with "badboy, sensitive and misunderstood".
  • Pretty Fly for a White Guy: Radu's attempt at rapping.
"Word to your mothers! Or fathers. ...Legal guardians. ...Eeyeehh."
  • Primal Scene: Describes Cynthia Rothrock's nude scenes in Sworn to Justice as like walking in on your parents doing it.
  • Private Eye Monologue: Witchcraft 4 combines a hard-boiled voiceover with good, old-fashioned softcore porn.
Noir!Allison: It was time for this scuba-diving-racecar-driving-martial artist to punch his last woman. And I was ready to punch her with him.

  • "Reading Is Cool" Aesop: In Magic Island.
  • Reaching Between the Lines: Throws the Gooby DVD at Iron Liz in an attempt to get rid of it.
  • Readings Blew Up the Scale: Throughout the OLP review of The Room she uses an "Oh hey" counter to count the number of times the characters say "Oh hey". When several characters greet each other with "Oh hey" in rapid-fire succession, the counter overloads and the movie spontaneously combusts.
  • Real Song Theme Tune:
    • Allison usually bookends her reviews with apropos music, but quit after Scott Shaw's attorneys put the fear of god into her . For a full list, check the trivia tab.
    • The Supernaturals' "Smile" plays us into Manic Episodes.
    • Radu Reviews opens with "Walking on Sunshine". Over scenes of Radu dying in his own series.
    • The Cynthia Rothrockathon: "Bodies" by Drowning Pool
    • Howling Marathon: "Howling" - Babel
  • Really Dead Montage: Following Burt's brief apparent death in Tremors 3: Back to Perfection, a grief-stricken Allison can't go on. Cue montage of Burt kicking ass to Sarah Mclachlan music.
    RIP Burt Gummer 1947-2001
He did what he could, with what he had
  • Record Needle Scratch: The filter she uses for the Creepshow 3 review mimics the classic EC Comics upon which the original Creepshow was based. When it comes time to review the lazy cash-in sequel, the music stops and bright lights abruptly turn on.
  • Rich Bitch: Parodied in her "Hard to Kill" review, with Allison acting like a débutante now that she's joined TGWTG.
  • Romantic Plot Tumorinvoked: Allison's main contention with the first two seasons of Beauty and the Beast.
  • Rooting for the Empireinvoked:
    • Allison finds herself siding with the mutant frogs in the Frogtown series, if only because they know good music.
    • The "Lonely Man" theme plays when her beloved "Vampire Hulk" gets staked. (Vampires Assassin)
    • She was actually pulling for Radu for all four films; even as he became less and less violent, and more like an Anne Rice character.
    • Radu automatically does this with every film he reviews.
    • Gimli coming at Golddigger with a garden hose. (Robot in the Family)
"Yes, YES, kill it!! John Rhys-Davies, you're my hero!"
    • Radu interprets Tommy Wiseau as the true demon in The House That Drips Blood on Alex.
    • The only person on Sesame Street she can even tolerate is Oscar, who really speaks to her.
    • In her Charmed reviews, she considers the Charmed Ones (particularly Phoebe) to be Designated Heroes. It gets to the point where, in Season 4, she says, "It makes you root for the Source of All Evil because he seems nice in comparison." In season 6, during the high school reunion episode, the Alpha Bitch calls Phoebe a selfish whore to her face in as catty a manner as possible, and Allison can't actually argue against it.
    • Through extensive use of editing, she re-cut Season 8 of Charmed to suit her personal headcanon: that of a Star Wars-type struggle between the morally depraved Charmed Ones and their younger, seditious protégé.
  • Rouge Angles of Satin: The DVD packaging of Blood Red Moon advertises "behind the sceens" extras. Oh boy!
    • "Club Annocer" in the end credits of Witchcraft 4. Sounds French.

    • After watching several Rothrock movies in a row, patterns begin to emerge: (China O'Brien, Guardian Angel)
      Total minutes before slo-motion: 5:20

Minutes keeping her vow of nonviolence: 7
    • Almost every time slow-motion is used in a film, she begins to speak in slow motion as well.
    • She adds the montage song from Lady Dragon whenever there is, well, a montage. She does not seem very fond of it ("I got the courage to FAH-EEET!").
    • The Actual Funny Joke Count (My Boyfriend's Back). It arbitrarily decreases as the review grinds on.
    • Blaring the Doctor Who theme every time ''Witchery' characters are sucked into a green screen effect.
    • Patriotic montage songs for each of the American Ninja movies. Except 4. "You don't get one."
    • Whenever there's a particularly cringeworthy one-liner, she cuts to the intro of CSI: Miami.
    • For one-liners that make absolutely no sense, there's the Seinfeld Shrug Take.
    • Charles Solomon Junior's "Hulk Yell." The original clip had CSJ keeping his pimp-hand strong by backhanding his mother. Later editions have William hitting whatever is tormenting him at the moment, including a nightclub sign.
    • Blaring the Howling 5 sting when something Faux Horrific happens.
    • As noted, the *extreme zoom-in* with a blaring music sting is used specifically for banal plot 'twists'; two in succession in her Sherlock Holmes crossover with The Snob prompted him to lampshade appropriately:
Snob: What the fuck was THAT?!
    • Reinterpreting The Mystical Adventures of Billy Owens as Harry Potter in Canada.
"Hogwarts has nothing on Random Canadian Elementary."
    • She takes great delight in reminding us that, by the film's calculations, the majority of the Witchcraft series is set in THE FUTURE. This makes the wildly anachronistic clothes and cars hilarious.
"Yep. Year 2020 is gonna be steamy."
    • THANKS, COLEBAMA! (Charmed)
"Fishnet workshirt, Renaissance fair outfit, flamenco shirt/hip-rap combo with detached sleeves, furry-sleeve nightmare shirt, a collection of ever-lowering pants, Cinderella outfit, and.... tyyyyyping gloooooves????"
      • Allison later concludes that Phoebe is flipping through some sort of "Horrible Outfits of the World" theme, judging by the anachronisms.
      • Whenever Phoebe laments her inability to get guys, we flash back to Cole hanging from a cliff in Hell.
      • Unflattering screencaps of the Charmed Ones.
      • The ever-increasing pile of severed heads on Piper's mantle. (S.8)
      • Whitelighter inconsistencies. Astoundingly, the list gets longer with each passing year, to the point where she suspects the writers are trolling her deliberately.
      • And later, shouting DUN DUN DUN whenever anybody in possession of a penis appears.
"He installed a basketball hoop in her office, that son of a bitch!!"
"That's upside-down! Only women can take care of babies!"

"This is how men talk about the foot-ball, right?"
    • With Phelan, saying "It's not weird!" very quickly in her "dog" voice (as opposed to the "mean cat" voice used for Ash).
    • Since Mitch's wit is on par with a 3-year-old, he continually finds himself being out-witted by his 12-year old son Hobie, triggering a Kill Bill stand off between the two.
    • A Drone of Dread setting in whenever Craig stares off into the unblinking abyss.
    • Much ribbing of Y.K. Kim's phonetic reading of or-pans" and Jim's never-ending quest to create a world without pants. (Miami Connection) There are also some disquieting comparisons made to Samurai Cop.
    • Whenever Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's little sister Lizzy shows up in a video Alison and Phelous are reviewing, Alison insists that she never went on to do anything else.
    • Referring to whatever happens in the second season of Baywatch Nights during the Baywatching episodes for regular Baywatch that take place during or after Baywatch Night's second season, in particular Mitch's exploding frog-hybrid girlfriend.
  • Sarcasm Mode:
    • "And we all know bad quality makes reading subtitles a breeze!" in the Bloody Mary Killer review.
    • A whole episode in which she shows how Cool as Ice is better than Citizen Kane.
    • "Werewolf actually killed someone in a werewolf movie?" [cue standing ovation]
  • Say My Name:
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: "Welp, it was a bad run, but it's time for CHWAV to come to a close. Charmed 2018 is just too awful. See you on Charmed Rewind, folks!"
  • Self-Deprecation:
    • She remarks Pterodactyl is as stupid as someone bitching about continuity in a film, then getting the facts wrong themselves. She then looks away sheepishly.
    • During the opening moments of Razor Sharpe Allison apologizes, thinking she put in one of her old theatre tapes by accident.
    • Radu complaining about "the demon clown" (Ronald McDonald) and his Off-Model appearance in the animated scenes. (Visitors From Outer Space)
"I hate it when people who don't know what they're doing try to imitate well-known characters."
    • Over time, the intro to Manic Episodes devolves into "Welcome to Manic Episodes: Home of the Charmed reviews", and later a lifeless-sounding, "welcome to charmed reviews, home of manic episodes, sigh."
    • At the start of the review for Charmed: Season 7, she explains how long it took to get the review out using the below described Simpleton Voice normally reserved for Piper and Phoebe, along with a picture of herself in a similar pose:
"This season didn't suck nearly as much as the last one- I just know the review will be shorter! (Beat, close-up of her face) Idiot."
  • Shaped Like Itself:
    • While talking about her experience at MAGfest.
"The ironic thing about going to a gaming convention when you are not a gamer is going to a gaming convention when you are not a gamer."
    • During her Teen Sorcery review:
"Wow, this movie has all the wit and charm of something without wit and charm."
    • A running gag in Desire, which bills itself as an 'erotic thriller'.
    "This scene is erotically thrilling!"
  • Signing-Off Catchphrase: Charmed's propensity for wrapping things up in a way which isn't so morally-grey.
    "Makes it easyyyyyy~!"
  • Simpleton Voice: Eddie from Baywatch. Also, Ash the kitty.
    • Piper and Phoebe both speak in a shriller version of this voice, to increasingly hilarious effect. (See also "Annoying Laugh")
  • Shared Universe: Her many cameos and crossovers made her part of the Reviewaverse.
  • Skewed Priorities: Gets a lot of mileage out of the incredibly important things the Charmed Ones will blow off over petty personal issues. Monster hunting them, putting their own and innocents' lives at risk? Shopping! Cosmic balance at risk? Not doing anything until you deal with your relationship issue with the Guy of the Week! Entire universe at risk of destruction? Going to work! That shitty love advice isn't going to write itself!
  • Slasher Smile: Allison's hilariously creepy rictus when the Chick demands to know how she got into her apartment.
Chick: Have you been there all night...and day?? It's like 5pm.
    • From her joint review of The Asylum's Sherlock Holmes with the Cinema Snob:
Snob: Uhhggh, this is gonna be one of those kinda movies, isn't it.
      Allison: *Grins insanely at him*
  • Slut-Shaming: Allison's constant slut-shaming in her Charmed videos has not aged well.
  • Smurfing: The squiddly-doos. (The Hidden 2)
    "It's a perfect time for the squiddly-doos to attackiddly-doo!"
  • So Bad, It's Good: invokedGenerally the films she reviews are Guilty Pleasures. She feels the same about Torchwood, where she says it's more bad than good, but that's why she likes it. She's also a fan of The Twilight Saga for similar reasons.
  • So Happy Together: The main character of Lady Dragon on her wedding day.
Allison: I hope nothing bad happens like you getting gunned down, that would be the worst time for that to happen. Nooo, you're dying in my arms dramatically!
  • So Okay, It's Average:invoked: They Live!, oddly enough. Also, Teen Wolf.
"There is not one insane government agent attempting to capture and experiment on him! Not one!
  • Soundtrack Dissonance:
    • She is really good at putting rather hilarious soundtracks to scenes in some of the movies she reviews.
    • For Razor Sharpe, dubbed the Pina Colada song over the final fight sequence.
    • When the Charmed Ones are seemingly blown up along with their manor, "Celebration Time" blares over the carnage.
  • Special Edition Title: Hard to Kill opens with calligraphic titles and "Minuet" playing in the background. (Allison's increased viewership has gone to her head.)
  • Special Effects Evolution: Allison's death by car bomb. The effect varies in cheesiness between each video.
  • Spider-Sense: "Mmmm, yes, my Bad Movie Senses is tingling." (Fatal Deviation)
  • Split Screen: Allison's reaction shots.
  • Spoof Aesop:
    • "Personally, I'm of the mindset that anyone who claims to able to smell your lack of underwear should be avoided at all costs, murder suspect or no." (Desire)
    • "So remember, kids: Don't do drugs. And if you're an athlete, don't make movies." (Gymkata)
    • "When I think of kicking ass and taking names, I think of understanding and communication." (X-Treme Fighter)
    • Radu Reviews a movie about traffic safety. "These animations and musical numbers help me remember these easy steps! Now I, too, can murder people on the highway!"
    • Always judge men by their appearances. Because they're serial killers. (Crowfoot)
    • "I think we all learned a good lesson today: Don't listen to Big Bird!"
"And DON'T open presents with crappy Sesame Street DVDs in them!"
    • "In the end, t'was stupid that killed the beast." (Eyes of the Werewolf)
    • Folks, if you take away nothing from Tremors, remember this: There is nothing that cannot be solved with a barrage of bullets.
    • She further pokes fun at A Special Sesame Street Christmasby having Batman appear to give a "And Knowing Is Half the Battle" segment on how violence solves everything.
    • Well, it just goes to show you, if you cast coma spells and cheat at carnival games, your magical pawn shop professor will his soul lost in a magical amulet given to you by a crazy gypsy lady. Such an avoidable tragedy. (Billy Owen and the Secret of the Ruins)
    • And so Oscar learned the true meaning of Christmas, which is making everyone believe the same thing you do. (A Special Sesame Street Christmas)
    • invokedEven criminals can dream! And that's something to think about. (Charmed S.2)
    • invoked Charmed has also had its share of Hard Truth Aesops:
      • Marriages are built on deceit, as Mrs. Cole Turner can tell you! In fact, Grams Halliwell cursed an heirloom ring to prevent herself (or her kin) from ever remarrying again. (S.6)
      • Remember kids, personality is determined by your genes.(!) (S.6)
      • "Phoebe and Paige create a man for her—magically. As a birthday present. Men are presents." (S.6, again)
      • If you teamed up with a demon, put an innocent woman into a coma to benefit yourself, all in a vengeful quest to kill someone who didn't even commit the crime you think they did, don't sweat it: you still get to become an angel.(!!) (Charmed S.7)
      • A muggle stepson is valid justification for preventing him from seeing his children.(!!!)
      • Beautiful people are usually stupid, hollow human beings stuck on themselves — Phoebe excepted, of course! (S.8)invoked
      • A childless woman at 31 is, for all intents and purposes, a corpse. (S.8)
    • Hobie's Arson, Murder, and Lifesaving in "The Sky is Falling" (after he nearly gets his friends stranded and killed in the wilderness) is followed by a sparkling graphic reading CONSEQUENCES! (Eddie tries the same tactic with his grizzled Captain and gets written up, to the accompaniment of Losing Horns.)
  • Stalking is Love: Blood Red Moon being a Twilight knock-off features this.
Allison: At least Edward Cullen stood more than six feet away when he was stalking someone.
  • Standard Snippet: At least twice "Yakety Sax" was added to chase scenes.
  • The Stinger: As with other Channel Awesome contributors, Allison adds a stupid or otherwise memorable line from the film she was reviewing.
  • Strangled by the Red String:
    • Her in-universe opinion of Gymkata:
      Jonathan: Morning princess.
Allison: Ready for some forced sexual tension?
    • Something similar occurs between Justin Sharpe and Diana in Razor Sharpe.
Allison: OK, I guess we don't need any lead up for this. Or chemistry.
  • Stepford Snarker: Ed Glaser in Bloody Mary Killer. Apparently, E.T. Week has exhausted his patience for internet critics.
  • Stop Being Stereotypical: Her biggest criticism of Charmed, aside from the camp, was its tongue-in-cheek misandry which Allison thinks skirted close to media stereotypes of how "feminists" think. Not to mention own-goaling their cause by stealing all of Paige's duties and handing them over to Leo, or depicting Phoebe as a disillusioned career woman, or Piper as a shrewish housewife, or...
Grams: Men are like utensils! You use them, wash them, and throw them in a drawer until you need them!
  • Stunned Silence:
    • Musical interludes have this effect on her. The cheesier, the better.
    • She does not bode well during Pocket Ninjas and Robot in the Family.
    • Though her face speaks volumes. Specifically, "wuh duh fuh?"
"...I am five minutes closer to death now."
    • Transvestite Leatherface. (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation)

    • "Silver Bullet"'s Gary Busey:
"I'm a little too old to be playing The Hardy Boys meets REVEREND WEREWOLF!!"
Allison: (folds arms and nods approvingly)
    • "Did...did he just ask what a map was?" (The Mystical Adventures of Billy Owens)
      • Redeemed by Rowdy Roddy Piper screaming about souls and rivers.
    • Oscar the Grouch getting kicked down nine flights of stairs. Ho ho ho. (Christmas on Seseme Street)
Allison: (in shock) .....H-he's dead. ....They killed him.
    • The supposed "Christmas" movie Bernard and the Genie terrifies her. ...And I think she likes it.
"Should we be rooting for our heroes at this point? Both of them have at least one body on their hands, now!"

      "...WHAT THE F--"
    • Crowfoot. RAAAAAAAAAACHAAAAAAAAAEL!
    • No Retreat, No Surrender's character R.J. (aka The Distilled Essence of The 80s).
Allison: (dazed wonderment) How do you even follow that?
    • Charles Solomon Junior hauling off and punching his mom, complete with a petulant grunt. Gets its own Repeat Cut. (Witchcraft 2)
    • Anything to do with the nutty professor vignettes in Creepshow 3. BUT WHO WAS RABBIT?
      • One particular bit stuns Allison into a stupefied silence for a good 14 seconds.
  • Stylistic Suck:
    • Piranhasaur.
    • The Amazing Bulk is filmed entirely in front of a bad green screen, in parody of the actual film.
    • In Pterodactyl, Allison replaces the previous episode's song with a "crappy montage" set to I'll Tumble 4 Ya.
    • Her Lady Dragon 2 review climaxes with a stylistically sucky montage of her goofing around with her Cynthia Rothrock movie collection set to Wake me up before you go go
    • She finishes her Teen Sorcery review with some bad dancing set to the song played at the big dance at the end of the film.
    • Roller Samurai Vampire Slayers, a parody of the so-called "Zen filmmaking" style (essentially Throw It In!invoked: The Movie).
  • Suckiness Is Painful:
    • During the American Ninja reviews, Allison makes a running gag of dubbing bad music over the fight scenes. American Ninja 4 however is so bad that the last fight scene is accompanied by, rather than music, Allison sobbing.
    • Robot in the Family feels like death. Consider for a moment that Allison loves bad movies, and that that this is one of the few that really hurt her to watch.
    • invoked Apropos "The Seven Year Witch" (Charmed S.7), Allison tells her viewers to simmer down and excuses herself for one moment. Cue sounds of screams and projectile vomiting from the adjacent room.
    • Following her faked death in Season 10, an extended sequence of Phoebe's co-workers tearfully eulogizing her is drowned out by the sound of the ultimate suffering.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: "So, like, I'm totally not doing anything illegal, 'specially if I found a puppy one time, and maybe things got out of hand, and I had this whole lawsuit going on, but, I mean, nothing really happened, and I paid for the cab, so like, what's the problem?"
  • Swiper, No Swiping!: Her main criticism of the Avatars in season 7 of Charmed is that they spend thousands of years planning their takeover, then give up the moment they encounter any resistance to it.
  • Take That!:
    • From Masterminds: You might remember Vincent Kartheiser as Sean ("Aww!♥") and Connor (wrinkles nose in derision).
    • In the same vein: the Halliwells are seen trolling their own funeral in disguise and complimenting the turnout. Allison snaps at Piper by name, then refers to Paige's skinsuit as "Livia." (Adrienne Wilkinson plays both.) Bitter much?
"Shouldn't you be ruining Xena right about now?!"
    • Allison wondered aloud at the lyrical "genius" who composed the lyrics to Black Ninja's theme song; or more accurately, the one lyric.
Todd in the Shadows: (scribbles lyrics) This movie's gonna make me!
    • There have been several shots aimed at the movie Gerry, which Allison claims to be the worst film she has ever seen.
    • When Allison's saddened she has not done as many episodes as The Nostalgia Critic, Apollo Z Hack says at least Allison did not come up with Melvin brother of the joker.
    • As Dawn begins her first day of school in Teen Sorcery, Allison gives a narration mocking Twilight. "It's not easy being pretty and liked by everyone."
    • Radu's school report on Jurassic Park.
"It was a movie directed by Steven Springsteen, who has a band I think. It was adapted from the book Great Expectations, which was written a shit-load of a long time ago. Together with the help of Colonel Sanders, Merlin, The Fly, some children, and some boobs must fight the dinosaurs, but in the end the dinosaurs win out... This was followed by one sequel and one piece of horseshit. End report."
    • In Tremors 3: Back to Perfection, she assures the viewer that, although Jack's hick accent sounds broad and fake, it's actually real. "He's like the Film Brain of Texans."
    • A Closeup on Head of Allison (now driven mad by Witchcraft sequels) donning a leather jacket and calling herself "Dark Allison". This is revealed to a fake-out, or more accurately, and excuse to show off her new hair color. (Witchcraft 8)
"Just kidding. That would be stupid!"
    • In "Witches in Tights", Cole counts his lucky stars that he'll never act in a shitty superhero movie! (Charmed S.5)
    • She also refers to Cole's journey as Spike Syndrome, given how "he's a new character ever other episode."
    • In reaction to S.7 Piper and Leo being unable to have sex without ending the universe, Allison exclaims, "Buffy at least waited until the comics before starting this shit!"
  • The Tape Knew You Would Say That:
    • Whenever someone tries to extoll the virtues of Charmed's Jerkass gods, we see a repeat of their "unspeakable wrath" bluster from Season 2. (Which later turns out to have been an utterly empty threat, big surprise.)
    • According to official record, Leo died along with the Halliwells in that "big fucking explosion" that shook the house. This despite him careening around the crime scene and hectoring at cops in the previous season. (Charmed S.8) Not a hundred percent sure about your police work there, Lou.
    • When the sisters announce that they're off to train the younger generation of witches, Leo asks how he can help, to which Piper flatly replies, "You don't. We do." Cut to Leo holding a pointer stick (!) and instructing Billie on her spells.
      Caption: Pictured: Them doing it.
  • Tempting Fate:
    • Allison was so enthused about the frog band in Return to Frog Town that the universe snapped back at her with the frog lounge singers.
    • In Charmed S.6, we see a Sixties-era Leo wearing beads and schmoozing up the ladies. Allison quips that we'll next see Daryl's Afro Asskicker lookalike father who rails against The Man and — holy shit. They went there.
  • That Poor Cat: "Checkers! You're a zombie!!"
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: The final reveal of the killer in Desire, which Allison considers pretty far-fetched.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • invoked The Arc Words for Charmed. "If it sounds like a good idea, Charmed will find some way to make it stupid." This is immutable law.
    • Apparently, no one told the creators of Fast Getaway that their lead actress is a five-time karate champion in forms and weapons — not a slapstick comedienne.
"Cynthia Rothrock! Lover. Fighter. Expert pantomime."
  • This Is for Emphasis, Bitch!: "EAT PRODUCT PLACEMENT, BITCH!"
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Scanning the IMDB resume of Fast Getaway 2's screenwriter. Uh oh.
    "Ghoulies IV?"
    "Scanners Cop II?!"
    "PTERODACTYL?!!"
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Alison will occasionally stop berating Charmed for how awful it is to point out that none of the actors are particularly bad at acting, it's just that they have very little to work with, and praises the show's (rare) strong moments.
  • Title Drop:
    • A Running Gag in the Fast Getaway reviews.
    • DA HOWLING. *extreme zoom-in*
      • One more for the road:
Allison: DA HOWLING. (pregnant pause while waiting for zoom) Eight. *zoom*
    • Blood Red Moon opens, aptly-enough, on a.... pink moon??
      "More like Pepto-Bismol moon."
  • To Make a Long Story Short:
    • Howling 8, tl:dr edition:
      Allison: WHY?!
    • Witchraft, aka "Ominous Long Shot: The Movie"
  • Toilet Humour: During a death scene in Vampire Assassin, Allison substitutes farting for the hero's sobs and whines.
    • Slips in an impromptu fart joke after she finds herself lavishing too much praise on Cursed (2005). "We can't have that."
    • She's a bad influence on the Chick, as the pair of them fart out the theme to Beverly Hills Cop. (Honor and Glory)
    NChick: What did we eat?
    • In the Kickassia commentary she did with Linkara, Phelous, and Nash, she mentioned her desire to dub fart noises into Spoony's Insano transformation sequence.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Girly Girl to the Nostalgia Chick's Tomboy. Although their reviewing choices are reversed. Especially Allison's love for schlocky action movies is not what you'd call Girly.
  • Too Happy to Live: Has a meter running in Angel of Fury to measure the amount of badness that will happen to the main character in proportion to how happy they are at the moment.
  • Took The Bad Show Seriously:
    • invoked During a CPR rescue, Underage Girlfriend Girl is spotted acting her little heart out, causing Allison to pause the action and address her directly.
"Y'know, you could half-ass it and still get paid the same."
    • While reviewing "I'm Dangerous Tonight," Allison and Phelous say Mädchen Amick does a better job acting than the movie deserves. They then compliment Amick's acting in the pilot episode of Baywatch, and Riverdale. Then there is a Riverdale clip with the words "Watch Riverdale" on it.
  • Totally Radical: She jokes that X-treme Fighter was named this due to a mistaken belief it was 1994, not 2004.
    • He's the hippest happenin' hotcat, yo! ...That's, uh, that's what they say nowadays, right? (Rage and Honor)
    • Shows up again when in her review of Adventures of Bailey, Christmas Hero when a teenager girl says "OMG".
That's how the children speak these days, right? That's the dealio? Catch you hip cats on the flip side, yo!
  • Training Montage:
    • During a montage in Razor Sharpe the review cuts to Allison doing one which ends with her passing out after one sit up.
    • Allison does one in preparation for her Lady Dragon 2 review, set to the music from the first Lady Dragon. We see her exercise her thumb via a DVD remote, box a guy with a sign reading "RICHARD NORTON" taped to his chest, and bench-press her cat.
  • Troperiffic: Being a show about critical deconstruction of B-movies, this is pretty much unavoidable.
  • Troll: Her...weirder videos like her Cloud Cuckoo Lander Top 10 lists and her April Fools' Day review for Star Wars: A New Hope are pretty much her trolling the viewers. And the viewers love it!
  • Two Words: Added Emphasis: She-Wolf of London
"I've got four words for you: Werewolf on a plane."
  • Unfortunate Implications: Invoked during Alien Apocalypse, she says "There's nothing wrong with the only black character in the film being a slave."
  • Un-person:
    • Following her dismissal from Channel Awesome, all of her videos were removed from the site shortly afterwards along with most of her appearances in site-produced content (such as the Nostalgia Critic review of Simon Sez.) Her episode of "Shut Up And Talk" was never released as a result.
    • Following her falling-out with Brad Jones in 2018, she has rendered all of his appearances in her videos unavailable publicly, though her appearances in his videos remain, as do mutual appearances in others' videos. She did the same with her review of A Talking Cat!?!, a crossover featuring Doug Walker, around this time after having fallen out with him some years prior.
  • The Un-Twist: invoked Allison really hates how Howling IV attempts to present the story as a mystery, despite the fact that this is the fourth movie in the series and the audience is well aware this is a werewolf movie.
  • Unwanted Harem: A Running Gag during her Channel Awesome days, with several of the male reviews (but mostly Todd in the Shadows) attracted to and/or stalking her In-Universe.
  • Unusual Euphemism:
    • "Holy shitballs on a motherfucking horse stick!" (Charmed S.6).
    • S.8 has "pissnuggets!", "shitwaffles!", and, "What a nacho platter full of fuck."
  • Vampire Vords: Her impression of Radu from Subspecies.
  • Vaudeville Hook: Note Shannen Doherty getting the hook in the Charmed Season Four title card. (The same thing happens to Kaley Cuoco in the Season Eight card.)
  • Victorious Chorus:
    • Daryl, after six years, finally being given a story arc. Hallelujah! (Charmed S.6)
    • In a macabre turn of events, she played this again after "Neighbor Dan" Gordon was retroactively declared missing or dead (!!) in Season 7.
    • This happened again when Mitch's son, Hobie — boasting about his survival training — fell into a sinkhole mid-sentence. (Baywatch: "Message in a Bottle")
  • Villainous Incest: Averted in Witchcraft, despite being about lovers reincarnated as a mother and son.
"My question is, why did John and Elizabeth need Grace [to have John's baby]? I mean, let's not pretend the mother-and-son thing would bother them. They're evil and stuff, why not cut out the middle man?"
  • Villain Protagonist: Her take on the Charmed Ones in later seasons, to the point where she jokes that "Anakin-ing" the sisters as the true villains all along in Season 8 would have been a vast improvement.
  • Visible Boom Mic: Has a counter on the screen every time the boom mic appears in shot in Razor Sharpe.
  • Voodoo Shark: In Vampire Dog, Fang claims he can only eat red Jello because when he was first turned into a vampire, he only ate the hoofs and antlers of other animals. Allison points out that: a) this doesn't explain why he has to eat red Jello specifically, and b) if Fang can only sustain himself by eating collagen, then there are many other foods he could eat that contain the protein.
  • Waxing Lyrical:
  • Wearing a Flag on Your Head: In celebration of July 4th, Allison wear a gigantic stars & stripes bow. (And lovely blue eyeshadow to complement her red locks.)
  • We Meet Again: Another Cynthia Rothrock and Richard Norton teamup? Must be Tuesday! (China O'Brien)
"Oh ho Richard Norton, we meet again. You're not going to try to pull off an American accent? Not even just a little? You're just the random Australian guy again?"
  • Werewolf Theme Naming: Played for Laughs in a crossover with Vampire ReviewsMaven calls up Allison on the assumption that she's a werewolf because of her nom de plume Obscurus Lupa.
  • When She Smiles: You occasionally get a moment where Allison is down in the dumps, having written off the movie as totally bad... and then something magical happens, something you'll never find in a mainstream films, and she's reminded of why she loves Z-movies. And we're reminded of why we love her. QED.
  • Wire Fu: After a lackluster example in Xtreme Fighter she comments "just because you have wirework available doesn't mean you should use it."
  • With Lyrics: In the A Talking Cat!?! review, she and The Nostalgia Critic sing lyrics to the movie's instrumental opening theme. Turns out Allison is a good singer.
  • Why Don't Ya Just Shoot Him?:
    • When reviewing the Phantasm movies, Allison wonders why the Tall Man does not just kill Reggie.
Tall Man: Small man, your end approaches but not yet.
Allison: Why? Why can't you kill him now? How do you know when his time is? Are you psychic now? You can't make up powers all willie nillie.
    • Allison is baffled during Hard to Kill when the villain's henchmen wait until Storm comes out of a seven year coma before trying to kill him again, instead of finishing him off when he was vulnerable.
    • Likewise in Magic Island, she questions why Blackbeard didn't just kill Jack and Lily after getting the treasure map from them.
  • Woman of a Thousand Voices: Allison has an impressive vocal range, giving multiple characters very distinct voices, even if she is doing so in a mocking tone.
  • Worst. Whatever. Ever!: Gotta Get a Gift For Splinter. The worst Christmas song — nay, the worst song ever.
    • "I'm not gonna say Golddigger is the most useless robot in the history of film, but... Yeah that's exactly what I'm saying."
    • See the page topper quote. For context, the scene revolves around two mages fighting over a 'levitating' magic staff, which the hero repeatedly bends down to pick up. To use as a blunt instrument.
      "Worst. Fight. Everrr."
    • In the third season of Charmed, the sisters' dead relatives are brought back as exposition-spouting ghosts who can be summoned at will. The anticlimatic nature of this plot convenience, played to the hilt in Grandma's case, isn't helped by Victor's nonplussed, Munsters-style delivery of, "A'ight, who brought my ex-wife back from the dead?" This is the worst line of TV dialogue she's ever heard.
  • X Meets Y:
    • The masks worn by the villains of Lady Dragon 2, a cross between Doctor Doom and Jason Voorhees.
    (sweetly) "You know, stupid!"
    • She-Wolf in London, a.k.a. ''Moonlighting with Werewolves."
  • You Keep Using That Word: She remarks that despite the film being called Pterodactyl, the creatures featured are in fact pteranodons, which are not dinosaurs.
  • Younger Than They Look: In her Undefeatable commentary, she says that she looks about 30 in it, but was actually 19 at the time of the video, and is 21 at the time of the commentary.

DA HOWLING. [zoom]
