Founded in 1992 by Jonathan Klein & Reiko Matsuo, New Generation Pictures is one of the "Big Four" in the current anime, cartoon and video game recording scene in Los Angeles, along with Bang Zoom! Entertainment, Salami Studios, and Studiopolis. However, unlike the other studios, New Generation Pictures' specialty is not anime dubbing or Western animation recording, though NGP has done some of the former (including Texhnolyze, Paranoia Agent, and Ergo Proxy). Rather, NGP's specialty is in the world of video game recordings.

The studio's current video game clients include Square Enix (mostly B-list titles like Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean: The Last Hope), Capcom, Bandai Namco Entertainment, and Sierra Entertainment. The biggest anime distributor they have been contracted for is the now-defunct Geneon. Interestingly, NGP has been doing some work for Funimation lately, recording Hellsing Ultimate episode 5-8. Time will tell if this relationship will progress further, and it seems to be as they began Ikki Tousen seasons 3-4.

While NGP does draw from the same freelance talent pool as the other L.A. studios, NGP has a history of being "quirky" with their casting. Established names like Stephanie Sheh, Michelle Ruff, and Patrick Seitz have a tendency to be Playing Against Type in NGP productions, and there's a small pool of voice actors and actresses such as Taliesin Jaffe, Erika Weinstein, and Hunter Mackenzie Austin who don't frequently work at the other L.A. studios who are cast fairly consistently in NGP productions. The results have run the gamut from Superlative Dubbing to So Bad, It's Good to horrible, though the majority of reactions are positive (such as NGP's work for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Haibane Renmei).

Now in the business for over 20 years, despite the demise of many frequent clients and the number of voice work being below average in recent times, NGP soldiers on like their fellow compatriots in L.A.
