
Cicely Tyson (December 19, 1924 – January 28, 2021) was a highly accomplished American film, television, and stage actress. A former model, she had a long, storied, and multi-awarded career. She first gained prominence playing Rebecca in Sounder, and later played many strong black historical and contemporary figures.
