Basil Harry Hoffman (January 18, 1938 – September 17, 2021) was an American actor and acting teacher. Originally from Houston, he began to study acting after graduating from Tulane University in New Orleans with a degree in economics. He was best known for Ordinary People, My Favorite Year, and The Artist.
Hoffman wrote the books Cold Reading and How to Be Good At It and Acting and How to Be Good At It. He was married to Christine Elizabeth Reed from 1988 until her death in 2006.
