Amanda Bynes (Creator)
Amanda Laura Bynes (born April 3, 1986) is an American retired actress, singer and fashion designer born in Thousand Oaks, California. She started out as a child actress for Nickelodeon on the All That at the age of 7 year old. Amanda was praised immediately for her comedic talent despite her young age, and she even earned herself her own spin-off The Amanda Show and became a Teen Idol. She became a household name in the early 2000s, starring in films like What a Girl Wants, She's the Man, Hairspray, and Easy A.

In 2010, following years of reported body image issues and mental health issues, Bynes announced that she would be taking an indefinite hiatus from acting. She was placed under a conservatorship from 2013 to 2022, and has expressed interest in returning to acting and studying design.

Filmography:

Tropes from her career:

  • Actor-Inspired Element: She personally fought for Channing Tatum to be cast alongside her in She's the Man. He was then an unknown, only recognisable for a supporting role in Coach Carter.
  • Acting for Two: On The Amanda Show, where she played the in-universe version of herself and her "number one fan please" Penelope Taynt.
  • Bipolar Disorder: She was diagnosed with the condition after her breakdown in 2013 and has been undergoing treatment for it ever since.
  • Celebrity is Overrated: She's made clear over the 2010's that she doesn't miss fame at all and prefers living a quiet life out of the spotlight.
  • Celebrity Voice Actor: She was already big by the time she voiced the babysitter Taffy in Rugrats.
  • Creator Backlash: She hated her performance in Easy A so much, it made her want to quit acting.
  • Creator Breakdown: As she was dealing with body image issues while filming She's the Man, the prosthetics required for her Sweet Polly Oliver were quite distressing for her.
"When the movie came out and I saw it, I went into a deep depression for four to six months because I didn't like how I looked when I was a boy."
  • Dye Hard: Naturally Brunette, she dyed her hair Blonde in the late 2000s. Then, after her retirement from acting, she began dyeing her hair loads of different colours, such as: Red, Pink, bright Yellow, Green and Purple. Her hair colour for the last few years was Black. However, recently she went Platinum Blonde. She also wore strange waist-length blonde and blue wigs at one point.
  • Dyeing for Your Art: As her character in Hairspray repeatedly sucks on lollipops, Amanda was eating about forty a day. Naturally her dentist father was not pleased.
  • Star-Making Role: While she became a darkhorse on All That, The Amanda Show helped make her one of the biggest teen stars of the 2000s.
  • Star-Derailing Role: Amanda got famous at a young age for the Nickelodeon series All That and The Amanda Show. After The Amanda Show was cancelled, she went on to star in The WB sitcom What I Like About You, and also starred appearing in many movies. However, besides Hairspray, most of her movies weren't successful critically or financially. Sydney White was the final straw, as it bombed at the box office and got terrible reviews. She never got another leading role after that, only doing a supporting part three years later in Easy A, a supporting role in a Lifetime movie, and a guest spot on Family Guy before retiring from acting altogether and suffering a high-profile mental breakdown in 2013, which resulted in her being put under the conservatorship of her parents. She managed to recover from the breakdown after successful psychiatric treatment where she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and going to fashion school. In a 2017 interview (her first major interview in years), she stated that she is planning to return to acting; however, she has no roles booked since then and has generally shown no interest in restarting her career.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She’s 5 ft 7 (very nearly 5 ft 8) in height and was named one of the "25 Hottest Stars Under 25" in 2006.
  • Throw It In: When "Can't Stop the Beat" starts in Hairspray, Penny can be seen tripping over her heels as she starts to dance. This was Amanda's genuine reaction, and they left it in.
  • Underage Casting: In-universe on The Amanda Show, where she would sometimes play adult talk show hosts, teachers and various other characters in skits.
