Continuity Nod / Jay and Silent Bob Reboot

Go To

  • Clerks:
    • When Dante gets caught by the police at the beginning of the movie, he utters "I wasn't supposed be here today".
    • At the Chronic Con, Jay and Silent Bob come across a Clerks panel with six of the movie's cast members somehow in black and white (just like the movie was), all the while Love Among Freak's "Clerks" plays.
    • Towards the end of the movie, during the brawl at the Chronic Con, Jay ends his speech in Valyrian with a battle cry in English: "I'll fuck anything that moves!", one of his very first lines.
    • At the tail end of the movie, Dante tries to open the Quick Stop only to realize in frustration someone jammed gum in the locks of the Quick Stop again. Jay then tells Millie it is him and Silent Bob who do this on a regular basis.

  • Mallrats:
    • Brodie has moved his comic book store into the mall.
    • The scene with Brodie starts with Squirtgun's "Social" playing in the background.
    • Jay uses the exclamation "biggety bam!" when talking about stopping the new movie, the same one he used in Mallrats when explaining his plans to destroy the Truth or Date stage.
    • At the airport, Jay mentions "Fly, fatass, fly" as one of the things he used to say to Silent Bob when he was fatter.
    • Jay repeats the "Come, son of Jor-El, kneel before Zod!" quote. In Mallrats, he said it after knocking out LaFours, ironically in this movie he says it before he is knocked out himself.
    • The "Operation Preditor Editor" is explained to Jay and Silent Bob by Jihad by showing a cartoonish blueprint, not unlike those Jay and Silent Bob themselves drew in Mallrats.
    • During the credits, Brodie mentions he has a teenage daughter named Banner with Renee. Apparently, Banner calls Brodie the same thing her mother does: "Sega boy".

  • Chasing Amy:
    • The scene with Holden starts with Dave Pirner's "Tube of Wonderful" playing in the background. Holden greets the duo like he did in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back which itself was a reference to Jay greeting him in the same manner in Chasing Amy.
    • Alyssa's nickname "finger cuffs" comes up.
    • Jay and Silent Bob only shared one scene with Holden in Chasing Amy, and nobody else. It only makes sense that Alyssa has no idea who they are when she meets them.
    • Holden says "I met a girl who loves me, loves me" in the same manner as he did to Banky in Chasing Amy when he thought Alyssa was in love with him.
    • As a reference to Silent Bob's story, as well as to that movie's title, Holden and Alyssa's daughter's name is Amy. Holden ends his speech in the same way Silent Bob did in that movie.

  • Dogma:
    • Loki's appearance.
    • Jay remembers how the last time he and Silent Bob were in Chicago, they were looking for Shermer, Illinois.
    • Milly attacks Jay and Silent Bob in hockey gear like Azrael's hockey demons.
    • After arriving in Hollywood and Millie tells Jay that she wished she could have hung out with her father over coffee and tell her something that she didn't know, Jay tells her, "God looks exactly like Alanis Morissette."
    • Also, the van that Jay, Bob and the girls steal has a Buddy Christ figurine on the dashboard.
    • At Chronic Con, Milly purchases a replica of Jay's "Snoogans" beanie from Dogma.
    • That movie's events are one of the stories Jay tells Milly at the end of the movie.

  • Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back:
    • The movie features a lot of visual nods to the original movie. For instance, the shot from Strike Back where Jay and Silent Bob prepared to charge at Jason Biggs and James Van Der Beek to beat them up only to find out Suzanne beat them to the punch is mirrored here, with a very similar shot of Jay and Silent Bob opening the stolen van to take care of the girl gang only to find it empty.
    • The movie starts in almost the exact same manner as Strike Back:
      • Jay and Silent Bob find themselves in legal trouble (getting a restraining order from Dante and Randal in Strike Back, getting busted for growing weed and accidentally signing away their names here).
      • They learn about the Bluntman & Chronic movie being made from Brodie and get more information from Holden in Strike Back. In this movie, Brodie is the only person to give them information. In both movies, Jay asks "what the fuck is X?", leading to a detailed explanation (Holden explains the internet in Strike Back, Brodie explains sequels, remakes, and reboots here), and the titular pair departs for Hollywood.
      • Jay and Silent Bob's original travelling plans fall through (kicked out of the bus for having no money in Strike Back, prevented from flying due to being on the No Fly List in this one), so they travel with strangers (hitchhiking in Strike Back, using a ridesharing app in this movie).
      • A stop at a Mooby's leads to Jay seeing Justice and the duo meeting a girl gang. Jay daydreams both times after seeing her. Along the way, they use the internet to write an angry rant.
      • Finally, the gang along with Jay and Silent Bob takes a van and kicks someone out in the process.
    • Jay puts a spin on his quote from Strike Back from when they enter the girl gang's van for the first time "Ladies, ladies, ladies, Jay and Silent Bob are in the hizzouse!" when he surprises Justice: "Lady, lady, lady, Jay and Silent Bob are at your hizzouse!".
    • Jay is quick to point out the similarities between the girl gang from the previous movie and the one from this one.
    • Milly's parting words to the KKK are word-for-word Jay's quote from Strike Back when he threw Brent out of the van.
    • At Chronic Con, Milly and Soapy cosplay as Jay and Silent Bob, with Milly's outfit in particular replicating Jay's from Strike Back. Jihad opts for a Bluntman cap, also from Strike Back.
    • At Chronic Con, Jay and Silent Bob run away from the same security guard in a series of brief shots very similar to those from Strike Back. Chaka's AD also appears here as Kevin Smith's AD.
    • In both movies, the final fight heavily features a reference to another franchise with a character mentioning a potential lawsuit. In Strike Back Chaka reacted to the bongsaber battle with "George Lucas is gonna sue somebody". Here, Kevin Smith says the same about Marvel when Iron Bob shows up.
    • That movie's events are one of the stories Jay tells Milly at the end of the movie. Suzanne gets a mention.
    • Some more during the credits:
      • Jay compares himself and Silent Bob to Method Man and Redman in How High in the same manner as he did to Morris Day and Jerome in Strike Back.
      • The "15 Bucks, Little Man" song comes up again, with the same (now grown-up) kids.
      • Holden discusses Ben Affleck's career with Jay and Silent Bob, mentioning once again that he wasn't a fan of one movie, only to excitedly praise Affleck for his role in another.

  • Clerks II:
    • In his first scene, Jay does the Buffalo Bill tuck, something he had fun doing in Clerks II several times.
    • Jay calls Jolene "blind as Anne Frank", quoting Randal, who spent that entire movie confusing Anne Frank and Helen Keller.
    • That movie's backstory is one of the stories Jay tells Milly at the end of the movie.
