Gaturro and his family

Gaturro is a long-running (since 1993) newspaper comic from Argentina, written and drawn by the argentinian author Nik. It stars Gaturro, a cat, who is in love with another cat called Ágatha. However, she is not interested in him. Gaturro does not speak; he just thinks. In some cases, he can communicate with humans like this. However, when he communicates with his animal friends, he does speak. Among his most frequent activities, he usually walks on the roofs, goes to school and destroys things in his house.

Gaturro was not initially envisioned as a children's character, the character initially appearing as a supporting character on Nik's Political Cartoons, but over time he became popular enough to spawn his own comic strip. Despite this, Gaturro still appears prominently in Nik's political cartoons, just like when he was first conceived.

On March 1, 2010, the MMO Mundo Gaturro, was launched.

On September 9, 2010, Gaturro: The Movie was released,

An animated series "Gaturro, la series" was released in 2014.

This comic has examples of:

  • Animal Goes to School: The titular character, who is a house cat, goes to school and is the only animal pupil. Although he cannot talk (his dialogue appears in speech bubbles when interacting with humans), it is heavily implied that his teacher, Ruda Vinagretti, can understand him and gets an idea of how bad a student he is.
  • Animal Talk: Gaturro communicates with humans through speech bubbles, while he directly talks to animals.
  • Filibuster Freefall: Inverted and Zig-Zagged. Gaturro debuted on Nik's Political Cartoons, but he was popular he became popular enough to spawn his own comic strip for children. Despite that, Nik still uses Gaturro as a mouthpiece for his political views in his political cartoons to this day.
  • Fully-Dressed Cartoon Animal: While he's mostly naked, Gaturro always wears an oversized white shirt during the times he goes to school.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Gaturro always tries to make Ágatha fall in love with him, but she's never interested.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Exaggerated. Gaturro is very mischievous, destructive and disobedient with his authority figures (mainly his owner and his teacher), but at the same time he loves to talk about love and positive things, and reflect on life.
  • Teacher's Unfavorite Student: Gaturro is this to his teacher Ruda Vinagretti, who has openly expressed her distain of having to educate him and is unimpressed with his performance.
