The modern incarnation of Valiant's original super team comic, created by Eric Heisserer and spinning off from Harbinger, the Secret Weapons are a Ragtag Bunch of Misfits, psiots who were given powers by the Harada Foundation, only to be rejected when their powers turned out to be crap. Dumped in a secret facility called the Willows, they expected to live boring lives... up until their names got leaked to the press. Now they're on the run, hiding from the HARD Corps and from a nasty piece of work called the Scavenger, who wants to harvest them and give their powers to his monstrous cyborg creation. Luckily for them, they have Livewire, one of Toyo Harada's former lieutenants, backing them up.

The team later popped up in Harbinger Wars 2, in which Livewire, enraged by Omen's continued harassment of Psiots, shuts down every satellite in the United States, effectively sparking an open war between Psiots and the government. The team members also appeared in Livewire's solo series, which served as a sequel/spinoff to Secret Weapons.

Tropes:

  • All Your Powers Combined: The Scavenger discovered that Rex-0 has the ability to absorb psiots' abilities by soaking in their blood. He thus wants to track down all of the psiots from the Willows to harvest their blood and make Rex-0 stronger.
  • Black Dude Dies First: Martin Tytus is the only black male among the Harbinger rejects, and is the second one to get killed by Rex-0.
  • Blessed with Suck: All of the Secret Weapons have crappy powers. Owen can make things appear, but he can't control when they appear or what he'll get. Avi can turn his body - and anything he happens to be touching - to stone, but he can't move while in stone form. And Nikki just talks to birds.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: Nikki wanted to be an Olympic gymnast, but her parents forced her to quit training because they were afraid it would distract her from her schoolwork. Her anger at this is part of what drives her to join the Harada Foundation.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: On paper, Nikki's power - talking to birds - doesn't sound very impressive. In reality, it gives her access to a vast network of eyes and ears. Combined with her gymnastic abilities and the survival skills she picked up while living on the street, she's the most capable member of the team.
  • Lovecraftian Superpower: Sonya had the ability to transform her hands into thorny tendrils. This power is stolen by Rex-0 in the beginning of the series.
  • Power Incontinence:
    • Owen randomly manifests objects. He has no control over what appears or when it appears, although Livewire speculates that all of the manifestations are connected to his subconscious somehow.
    • Lucia can generate explosions. Unfortunately, she suffers from what the handlers called "a minor palsy", which apparently affects the same area of the brain as the part that grants her powers, causing her to go off at inconvenient times. Like when she's asleep.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Nikki is able to speak to and understand birds.
  • Technopath: Livewire's powers allow her to communicate with machines.
  • Training from Hell: In order to try and discover Nikki's powers, her handlers let someone beat her up, shot at her, and shoved her out of an airplane.
  • Twofer Token Minority: Avichal is a Psiot who's also a Sikh. When he and the other kids at the Willows were outed by the Renegades, he immediately fled, because his religion already painted a huge target on his back.
