Mockingbird is a 2016 Marvel Comics series by Chelsea Cain with art by Kate Niemczyk.

After being forced to have scheduled checkups at the S.H.I.E.L.D. medical clinic in between missions, Mockingbird discovers that something is wrong at the clinic.

Mockingbird provides examples of:

  • Dressed Like a Dominatrix: Bobbi dresses like one to infiltrate a Hellfire Club event. She later has to go to her S.H.I.E.L.D. doctor appointment dressed like that.
  • Female Gaze: Bobbi Morse often finds herself teaming up with her ex-husband Clint or current fling, Lance Hunter, and both of them tended to be shirtless. In issue 2, Lance was, in fact, shirtless in bondage gear. And then he later appeared completely naked (complete with censor bar). Cain has explained that the entire book is through the lens of Bobbi and since she is an unreliable narrator, she remembers things a bit more...female gaze-y.
  • Fun T-Shirt: The cover for issue 8 has Bobbi wearing a shirt saying “Ask Me About My Feminist Agenda”. Backlash by those triggered by this kind of thing ensued, but it has become an enduring image, worn even by Bobbi's live-action portrayer.
  • The Missus and the Ex: Gender-Inverted example happened at the end of the series, when Lance Hunter and Clint Barton both join Bobbi in a cabin. The two bicker before seemingly engaging in a three-way with Bobbi, but the whole event is somewhat implied to just be in Bobbi's imagination.
  • Noodle Incident: Multiple heroes are shown at the S.H.I.E.L.D. clinic during Bobbi's routine visits with unexplained injuries.
  • Politically Correct Villain: In issue #8, the Phantom Rider summons a horde of ghost pirates and tells them to kill the passengers on a cruise but leave Bobbi alive. The ghost pirates assert that they're not comfortable with this because they're progressive feminists, call the Rider out for stereotyping them, and leave.
  • Running Gag: Hercules keeps showing up injured with an ice pack on his head to the S.H.I.E.L.D. clinic.
