Just a typical Sunday for him.

Clingy Jealous Girls in Literature.

  • Accel World
Kuroyukihime: Haruyuki-kun, listen... you belong to me. Up till now, and from now on. For eternity, I will not give you to anyone.
    • The second ending shows that this even extends to herself, as her shier real world self is very jealous of how flirtatious her Digital Avatar self can be.
  • Matt's ex Liz Tivoli in The Affix has been stalking him since he dumped her months ago, sometimes showing up on his dates. She's not violent, but he feared she would be. Unfortunately, on top of her clingy ways, the Affix pulls her into the ongoing fray whether she wants to be involved or not.
  • In a non-romantic variant, Dawn of The Baby-Sitters Club shows a dose of this in Mary Anne's Makeover. Dawn admits that she's jealous of all the time Mary Anne's been spending with her father and that it makes her miss her own terribly. Dawn comes off as being resentful of Mary Anne for having her father around... apparently forgetting that this is Mary Anne's only living parent.
  • The Black Witch Chronicles: Alpha Bitch Fallon Bane believes that she is entitled to wandfast (marriage where the bride and groom are magically bound together) Lukas Grey, and she's a powerful and cruel enough mage to ruthlessly bully any other young woman who Lukas shows interest in. Unfortunately for protagonist Elloren, who (apparently) doesn't have any magic, this is one of the factors making her time at university unpleasant, since Lukas just so happens to be attracted to her, and by his own admission has no interest in Fallon. After Fallon leaves university due to being seriously injured in an assassination attempt, Ren is forcibly fasted to Lukas late in the second book, before running away with La Résistance. How Fallon will react to this has yet to be seen.
  • The Cat in the Stacks Mysteries: As discussed in book 10, Milton Harville's wife Tammy is very possessive of her husband, thinking every woman who so much as looks at her husband is trying to lure him away from her, even though he's clearly devoted to Tammy. It's gotten so bad that during Gerry Albritton's party, when Tammy threatens Gerry if she doesn't stay away from Milton, Milton's finally had enough and tells her that if she doesn't stop it, he'll have her committed. It's later revealed that she's mentally unstable in part due to an addiction to painkillers, though it's never explained by the end of the book if she got proper treatment for her issues.
  • A Certain Magical Index:
    • Index herself whenever a girl takes Touma away from her.
    • Kuroko threatens Touma the moment she sees him out of suspicion over his relationship with Mikoto, telling him that if he wants to make a go at Mikoto he'll have to go through her first.
    • While she doesn't realize it, Mikoto shows signs of this too, including when she and Index first meet and Hilarity Ensues.
    • Touma's mother Shiina goes into Tranquil Fury and gives off Killing Intent whenever his father Toya interacts with another woman.
  • Simone Lecoutier is like this towards best friend Joey Bettany at the beginning of the Chalet School series, getting tearful and resentful if Joey befriends anyone besides her. Given how friendly Joey is, this happens a lot. At one point, Simone chops off her plaits in an attempt to get Joey to pay attention to her after Joey makes a remark about girls with short hair. Joey isn't pleased.
  • In Charlie Daniels, Teenaged Schmoe, Charlie's girlfriend Lynn acts like this towards him, trying to make him jealous by kissing another girl and then spreading the rumor that he raped her when that doesn't work, and yelling at him because another girl flirted with him (and he tried to brush her off).
  • Darth Bane: Rule of Two: Invoked by Zannah, who tells her lover Kel that if she ever finds her with another woman, she'll cut the woman's heart out. Downplayed, because Zannah is neither clingy nor jealous enough to do it, but she is cruel enough.
  • Ohara-sensei of Digital Devil Story snaps the neck of her student out of jealousy of the fact her demon master/lover was about to rape the poor girl in front of her.
  • In the Disgaea novels every girl in Laharl’s Unwanted Harem acts like this to a certain degree, especially Flonne.
  • Rose from Dragon Crisis! is this towards Ryuuji, in that, he tried to leave for three days, and she almost destroyed the room they were in at the time.
  • Earth's Children: Jondalar's former lover Marona is still very possessive over him. When her friend Portula brings up that Jondalar was the man chosen for her First Rites, Marona gets visibly annoyed. She absolutely despises Ayla because she sees her as having taken her rightful place as Jondalar's mate, including playing a nasty prank on her designed to humiliate her in public (under the pretence of befriending her). Jondalar mentions that when they were together she could be jealous and spiteful, with this being one of the reasons he never truly fell in love with her.
  • Eleanor from Eleanor & Park is this for her boyfriend Park, turning on the Green-Eyed Monster when Park brings up the fact that he used to go out with Tina. Somewhat justified by the fact that Eleanor is a victim of Redheads Are Uncool (a lot of which is Tina's doing).
  • The Familiar of Zero: Louise and Siesta towards Saito, though Louise is much more extreme about it.
  • Full Metal Panic!: Teresa "Tessa" Testarossa is this towards Sousuke - big time. She's normally a ditzy, klutz, but if anything concerns Sousuke, she gets very possessive and wily. She throws herself at him and has been shown several times to (purposefully) sneak to where he's sleeping so she can molest him, which eventually implied to result in his habit of sleeping under the bed. And as for the "jealous" part, TSR has her chewing him out and lambasting him for his Heroic BSoD and depression over being jerked away from Kaname (whom he developed one of the few human attachments he's felt for). Ironically enough, it's suggested that Sousuke was actually put off and made to be more afraid of her due to her incredibly aggressive advances than if she had just lightened up.
  • Medea from Aaron Allston's Galatea in 2-D. Roger takes advantage of this, coupled with the threat to never let her go back to Jason, to get her to work for him.
  • Azaka for Mikiya in The Garden of Sinners. Also, a version where she fully embraces a relationship with him would be Brother–Sister Incest.
  • In Girls Kingdom Himeko starts showing signs of becoming one after her seraph, Misaki helps save Erisu's restaurant and Erisu pecks her on the cheek as a reward (and revenge). She gets all worked up afterwards and especially clingy with Misaki during their bath together that night, including kissing Misaki on the cheek herself and declaring that she'll do more to keep people from messing with her Misakins, especially in regard to the Kokonoe twins.
  • Ghost Girl (2021): Platonic example. Zee isn't fond of Nellie growing close to Elijah when they're forced to ally, at one point having to fight the urge to remind Nellie that Elijah is "hers".
  • The Giddy Death of the Gays and the Strange Demise of Straights: Christina's roommate Nomi is extremely demanding and possessive, though she also goes to great lengths to protect the woman she cares about.
  • Girls Don't Hit: Joss meets a female detective who's secretly with her partner (also a woman). She's quite jealous, and easily provoked to hit Joss after she hits on her partner. Joss used it as a distraction to get away after poisoning the man they were protecting.
  • Good Luck! Ninomiya-kun: Although she tries to deny it, Reika is very much in love with and possessive of Shungo. This is made obvious when she takes a maid job to get closer to Shungo, and her more ruthless alternate personality emerges.
  • Practically all of the main female cast in Haganai exhibit this trope at one point or another towards Kodaka, the male protagonist. Him being or acting Oblivious to Love only makes it worse for them, and they're not too happy being in a Balanced Harem as well.
  • Rias starts showing signs of this trope for a while in High School D×D. Notably, it's very out of character for her to do so, and a symptom of her strained relationship with Issei rather than garden-variety jealousy. When Issei finally confronts long-term self-worth issues and confesses to her, she mellows out considerably, to the point of fully supporting his plans on having a harem.
  • Harry Potter:
  • Haruhi Suzumiya: After Haruhi sees Kyon and Mikuru acting a bit too friendly with each other, her jealousy nearly brings about the end of the universe. In her defense, Haruhi does restrain her jealousy a lot and doesn't really intervene in these cases other than by making disguised sighs of disgust and frustration... but, given that the whole universe is hanging on her mental balance, inner frustration is everything it would take for the world to implode. Haruhi's behavior can be understood in part because Kyon is the only human being who voluntarily associates with her out of choice rather than obligation. Therefore, he's the only one who has a calming influence on her, and shall she lose him...
  • How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend:
    • Utaha, the Aloof Dark-Haired Girl, and Eriri, the Tsundere are this towards Tomoya. They aren't above stepping on his feet out of jealousy and each gets jealous when one of them gets intimate with him.
    • Played for Laughs with Izumi. When she thanks Tomoya and clings to him while crying. Megumi makes it known that she's here too and Izumi thanks her as well, assuming she's Tomoya's girlfriend. Megumi plays a long and says, "get your mitts off my Tomoya, you homewrecker... or I suppose that's what I should be saying."
  • In the Hurog duology, there is a woman who tries to murder a man because he seemed interested in another woman. He didn't even kiss said woman.
  • Infinite Stratos has almost all of the girls (a minimum of five as of the Anime adaptation) be jealous with whoever is with Ichika. In fact, it's the reason why Ichika pretends to act dense since they have a nasty habit of getting violent when angry.
  • Inukami!: Youko adores Keita and hates when he flirts with other girls. A typical event ends with him arrested for streaking because she teleported off his clothes in anger. Unusual for this trope in that she's a Battle Couple with him instead of an obstruction to another Love Interest.
  • In The Irregular at Magic High School, when Miyuki sees Tatsuya talking to other girls, her first reaction is to passive-aggressively ask if he's dating them (as snow whirls into existence around her). What saves her being a full-on yandere is her sincere apologies to them after Tatsuya rebukes her for being rude, and the fact that (due to Tatsuya's magical abilities) her "punishment" of him for not paying her enough attention is not fatal. This trope fades with Character Development.
  • Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? has Hestia, in which being intensely jealous of and clingy to Bell is one of her main traits. She particularly puts on a comically scary face and calls Liliruca a "thieving beast" (or a homewrecker) while clinging to Bell's arm, to which Liliruca responds by clinging to Bell's other arm.
  • Blanche Ingram from Jane Eyre, but she doesn't have any real affection for Rochester - she's just a Rich Bitch Gold Digger. Easily gotten rid of when Rochester lets a rumor reach her saying (falsely) that he's broke.
  • Konosuba gives us a platonic example of this in the first light novel in the form of a clingy, jealous adventuring party. Kazuma is gamer enough to understand that professional gossip is an adventurer's lifeblood so he considers it reasonable to talk to as many other adventuring groups as he can in order to gather information. To his considerable bemusement this provokes a bad reaction within his own party because they're afraid he'll join another party and leave the three of them to their own devices. Later on in the series Megumin and Darkness develop enough feelings for him that their clingy, jealous moments are a lot less platonic then this.
  • Eponine of Les Misérables is notable for being about as clingy and jealous as you can get while still remaining The Woobie. While she desperately wants Marius to pay attention to her, she lacks the self-confidence and the boldness that would make her fit the trope. Obviously, trying to get him and herself killed on the barricade is taking clinginess to an extreme level, but she has lost all hope at that point.
  • In Maburaho, Yuna becomes one for Kazuki shortly after he turns into a ghost. She still keeps up her "I'm his wife" routine, but now with the added element of magically blasting anyone who so much as looks at him.
  • Poor Jiro from Mayo Chiki! has at least 3 girls who exhibit this trope. All 3 are pretty violent as well, and often beat him up when they suspect he's getting too close to the other ones, and a 4th girl who likes to tease him about it.
  • Snork Maiden of The Moomins. Partially inverted in that she's Moomins' actual love interest and hence is justified in becoming really clingy whenever he falls in love with a block of wood (yes, this actually happens).
  • Catarina Claes, the main character My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! has a harem that consists of both male and female members. Of all the members of her harem, Mary Hunt is by far the most aggressive of them. She absolutely can't stand when someone else has Catarina's attention and if she is within earshot of someone saying they like Catarina, she will immediately respond by declaring her admiration for Catarina is greater than anyone's. She also takes steps to keep her fiance Prince Alan Stuart from recognizing his feelings for Catarina, not wanting another rival for Catarina's affection.
  • In NAKAIMO - My Little Sister is Among Them!, several of the girls display this trope towards Shougo, primarily Konoe and Miyabi. In one hilarious incident, both girls insist on training him to "only like girls" after they see Mizutani trying to climb on top of him in bed note  and assuming the worst.
  • Oreimo:
    • Kirino acts this way towards her brother Kyousuke. She gets extremely irritated anytime his childhood friend Manami spends time with him. In one incident, Kirino even goes so far as to put porn mags and an Eroge game on in his room as he's about to bring her to it, which hilariously backfires when Manami seems more interested that Kyousuke seems to prefer Meganekko girls (as evidenced by the mags and the girl in the game), than the fact that he is playing eroge games and has porn openly laying about.
    • Kuroneko, Ayase, and Kanako, three of Kirino's friends, also act this way towards Kyousuke in the later novels and during season 2 of the anime. The former likes to wonder what exactly the other two are doing with him in the first place, while the other two wonder why the former is visiting him since she broke up with him after dating him for a short while.
    • Kyousuke's housewarming party. When Kanako comes over to give him the lunch she cooked for him(note: this is only the second time, but she's acting as if like she's done it for ages), Kyousuke angrily comes down to tell her off, but then Ayase and Kirino come down and start screaming at Kanako for coming over and giving Kyousuke a lunch. They both looked like lions!! Then when Kanako lies that Kyousuke is her boyfriend, well, Ayase, in a fit of jealousy of all things, gives Kyousuke the classic karate kick to the face.
  • In Oreshura, Eita's childhood friend Chiwa does not take the news that he's dating Masuzu, the most popular girl at school, very well. Made worse by the fact that Masuzu uses Black Mail to force him to date her, and threatens to release embarrassing things he wrote in a notebook years earlier on the internet if he tries to reveal the masquerade.
  • Tinker Bell from Peter Pan, to the point of making multiple attempts on Wendy's life, a trait only slightly toned down for other adaptations.
  • Caroline Bingley fills this role in Pride and Prejudice; having clear intentions on Mr. Darcy, she is less than impressed by the obvious attention and interest he has in Elizabeth (obvious to her, that is; not to Elizabeth herself) and spends a lot of time attempting to belittle and put-down Elizabeth as much as possible. Darcy, for his part, takes the ignore-her-long-enough-and-maybe-she'll-go-away approach toward Caroline.
  • Rebuild World: The Femme Fatale Carol brings this out in women since she's a Predatory Prostitute.
    • Defied when Sheryl reacts to Carol openly making moves on Akira despite her and him being in a Fake Relationship, by repressing the cocktail of emotions that rise up in her out of fear of being seen like this, and only reacting by giving Akira an Overly Long Hug when worried.
    • After Sheryl's gang Took a Level in Badass into a hunter gang, Carol starts seducing the male hunter members which leads to a lot of this among the female gang members, among them the Number Two Alicia for her boyfriend Erio. Carol and Sheryl come to a flimsy arrangement of her not seducing those with girlfriends, but that doesn’t stop single boys from attempting to steal in order to pay Carol.
  • Secret Santa (2007): Compared to most of the characters, Shawna and Connor have a happy, caring and stable relationship. Nonetheless, Shawna feels paranoid about their relationship when Connor starts spending far less time with her (he has a secret job). When she realizes that a girl is giving him secret Santa presents, she spies on the delivery area to find out who it is. Their classmate Lily thinks to herself that Connor probably has the words "personal property of Shawna Westin" tattooed somewhere on his body.
  • The Ship Who...: In The Ship Who Sang, brainships and their brawns often have a Pseudo-Romantic Friendship compared in many ways to a marriage, although it's expected to be more of a Mayfly–December Friendship. Helva is rather jealous of her brawns finding female companionship, although she Can't Have Sex, Ever and carefully tries to rationalize it away.
    • In The City Who Fought, the Bethelite Rachel was one of Amos's first followers, who chose to follow him even when her father cast her out for it. She was level-headed in a crisis, but had to be put into coldsleep, overdosed with expired drugs and stored away in unfortunate conditions. She had a bad reaction and woke up having screaming hysterics, and too paranoid to take the medications that would help. Rachel becomes increasingly more deranged over the course of the book, more and more convinced that Amos is actually her fiancee and his new Love Interest is stealing him, to the point of trying to sell everyone out to the very enemy they had been fleeing from. When she suddenly snaps out of it she's horrified, and has permanently lost Amos's good regard.
    • Plenna, falling for Keff after rescuing him, is jealous when she meets Carialle, correctly deducing that the Sapient Ship is very important to Keff. She manages to mostly keep this to herself as there are plenty of other things going on and works with Carialle with only a few twinges. Carialle for her part is all for Keff having Friends with Benefits but neither she nor Keff want a long term and romantic relationship for him, so she convinces Plenna that she will be sick if she goes to space.
  • Lysa Tully from A Song of Ice and Fire takes this to such an extreme that, when her husband makes entirely unwanted advances on her (barely) teenage niece, she tries to shove the girl off a castle. Unfortunately for Lysa he shoves her off — as a) it was All According to Plan and b) Littlefinger out-Yanderes her by miles.
  • Angelina in The Stainless Steel Rat. Admittedly she's his wife, but most partners draw the line at threatening their husband-to-be with a .75 caliber recoilless pistol just because he's having second thoughts about their marriage.
    • She was in her third trimester with twins and he was still waffling! But she does display this behavior quite well later in the same book, as well as subsequent ones.
    • Well, despite the Corps' highly advanced personality rewriting devices, Jim did insist that they not reform her entirely.
  • Kojou Akatsuki suffers from several girls with this affliction in Strike the Blood. The girl that he partners with the most, Yukina Himeragi, really hates it when he spends too much time with the other girls, especially when she isn't around to observe him.
  • Asuna in Sword Art Online has shades of this from time to time. Somewhat understandable given the number of girls that tend to hang around her boyfriend Kirito. One example is in episode 19 of season 2 when she finds out that the mysterious warrior challenging people to a duel wasn't a man as she envisioned, but a girl. She then gets mad at Kirito and thinks he lost on purpose because of that. Later in the Alicization arc, she gets into a brief swordfight with Alice when she enters Kirito's tent to see him without her permission, and she actually starts marking territory by referring to him as "[her] Kirito".
  • In Those That Wake's sequel, Rose takes this to horrifying levels when she tries to replace Mal's memories of Laura with herself.
  • From Tell the Wolves I'm Home, June is this for her uncle Finn, getting jealous when Toby tells her about their relationship (because there were parts of Finn's life she wasn't privy to). Greta is this for June as well, being jealous that she grew close with Toby.
  • In The Testament of Sister New Devil Mio is very jealous after Yuki, a childhood friend of Basara, gives him The Glomp when he transfers into their school. She tries to forcibly separate the two, is in a foul mood and refuses to speak to him for much of the rest of the day as a result.
  • Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs: Angelica is a Deconstructed Character Archetype of this, with her having been a Disposable Fiancé for Julius in the game the protagonist Leon transmigrated into, receiving a Sympathetic P.O.V. about her being humiliated by her partner openly cheating on her and not believing her please of being The Scapegoat for the bullying of Marie. Julius points out Angelica was Loving a Shadow, which has some validity. Angelica shows some downplayed behavior like this towards Leon at times in the aftermath.
  • Trapped on Draconica: Jenna she throws petty insults at Daniar the instant they meet and pulls (her brother) Kalak away from her. Ritchie says she's like this with every girl Kalak has contact with. He thinks its Big Sister Instinct but by insisting that Kalak never has to have a child (and thus, never have sex with another woman) she borders Incest Subtext.
  • Edward and Bella both toward each other in The Twilight Saga. Jacob Black developed into something like this as well, later on (at least until Renesmee came along...).
  • The White Queen from The Unexplored Summon://Blood-Sign is possibly one of the most extreme examples in fiction. If Kyousuke, the victim of her entirely one-sided affection, so much as speaks another girl's name in front of her, she starts threatening to murder said girl. Though, unlike other examples on this page, she doesn't care if other girls flirt with Kyousuke, even if they do so in front of her. Presumably, her obsession with Kyousuke is so strong that she only cares about his opinion (or her perception of his opinion).
  • In Unlimited Fafnir, both Iris and Mitsuki seem a little angry at Yuu when they see Tear clinging onto him constantly.
  • Rose Hathaway for Lissa (though as a friend) when she forms close relationships with others (such as Christian and Avery) in Vampire Academy. She tries to get Christian to back off from Lissa and feels hurt that Avery is replacing her as Lissa's companion.
  • Faile from The Wheel of Time, whose jealousy of her husband Perrin is so strong he can smell it on her.
  • In When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace, every single one of the girls in the Literature Club gets incredibly jealous after Student Council President Mirei gives Andou a Love Confession after misinterpreting a letter he wrote to her as a love letter. They refuse to talk to him and attempt to ignore him until he clears up the misunderstanding with Mirei.
  • In World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman Ranjou gets irritated when Urushibara steals Moroha's First Kiss in front of her.
