    Touka's Party

Touka Scott

A small town farmer and trapper from the village of Cheza with a kink for naked knee-socks, Touka is forced into the hero Shion's body by the necromancer girl Anri after one of his traps unwittingly kills the hero. He reluctantly accepts taking the much necessary mantle and legacy of the hero. The son of a mercenary, Touka was raised in the now destroyed city of Elbania and moved alone to Cheza some time after its destruction by the demon waves.
  • Always Save the Girl: A trait shared with Shion. He too finds himself doing anything he can, no matter the cost, to save Anri's life and to let her just live her life in peace. This behavior extends toward the other women around him as well.
  • Berserk Button: Do not EVER lay a finger on Yuna, Margaret or Anri. He'll find a way to defeat you in the most humiliating way possible.
  • Chick Magnet: Milly and Ethel both expressed some interest in him before gaining Shion's body. Despite functionally being a zombie the better aspects of his personality win over Yuna, Anri, and Margaret while his more villainous tendencies, oddly reinterpreted as benevolence and generosity, won over Diana.
  • Combat Pragmatist:
    • Touka's most important tenet when it comes to battle is to always have the much maligned resource of fleeing readily available. A battle one can run from is a battle best fought under better circumstances later.
    • Second comes another maligned resource: cheating. Chivalry is for those who fight on even terms, so if one's outmatched, one can use anything available to disable the opponent, no matter how dishonest or basest.
    • Third comes his most effective tactic: render one's opponent emotionally unwilling to fight. How? Mess with their minds, their morals, their social stature, and if the opponent is a girl, put her in naked kneesocks.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: As a child he would spend days hiding out in the woods to avoid beatings from his father. Some years later his father dragged both his wife and Touka off to loot battlefields which lead to her dying and Touka spending over a year trying to find a way home while the man himself simply disappeared.
  • Determinator: Touka went to hell and back just to see Yuna again.
  • Good Eyes, Evil Eyes: Played for laughs. Every time Touka possesses a human body, the body's eyes switch from tareme to tsurime, with small pupils and a devious look. This is his main distinguishing feature.
  • Guile Hero: Touka is not gifted magically, nor does he have much in the way of combat training. What he does have is an excellent mastery of trap creation, knowledge of how to manipulate people by appealing to baser desires, and the audacity to exploit Shion's popularity to swing things in his favor.
  • Hidden Depths: Touka is tremendously kind, even beyond his means. Many of the things he accomplishes are done by the fact that he doesn't give a shit about his own reputation, which on his own way, goes beyond mere heroism. His is an example showing that doing the right thing is not the same as doing the "heroic" thing.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Despite him being in love with her, Touka's more than OK with Yuna going after Shion, as long as she's happy.
  • Insane Forgiveness:
    • Touka allowed himself to be verbally abused by Yuna for years on end due to the fact that his memory of her kept him alive in the first place, and found joy just by returning to her side at the village. He also didn't mind her falling in love with another man because that meant that she would be happy. Touka just happens to love Yuna that much.
    • Touka has never quite been bothered by the fact that Ethel betrays him multiple times due to the fact that he knows that their mutual relationship goes beyond that.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Touka is a lazy, crude, and highly perverse young man and makes no effort to hide any of it unless his life is on the line. That said he genuinely cares for the women around him. Doing anything to harm them is the quickest way to motivate him to utterly destroy and humiliate you as Leland, Diego, and Diana learn the hard way. Even before any of his development he quickly tries to save Yuna's life from a demon, first by trying to quickly lure it into a trap and once that fails by trying to attack it with a hoe.
Touka: "I'm always doing things in the spur of the moment like an idiot, and I think I am also a piece of shit for hurting you with my idiotic decisions. However I'm not as rotten as to abandon a kindhearted person like you."
  • Kidnapped by the Call: Shion's accidental death to one of Touka's traps was enough to convince Anri that that is what Shion meant by whoever could kill the hero is worthy of being the hero, leading her to force Touka's soul into his body and blackmail him with the threat of death to continue Shion's mission.
  • Legally Dead: Played for laughs. Because neither he nor Yuna told anyone at Cheza they left to adventure, the villagers assumed that they killed themselves out of the guilt of having killed Shion, so they demolished their neighboring houses and planted a field of radishes in their honor and rememberance.
  • Magnetic Hero: Despite his negative traits, he has a knack for gaining the allegiance of others, even former enemies.
  • Man, I Feel Like a Woman: Predictably the first thing Touka does when placed in Yuna's body is check out her thighs. Trying to use taking a bath as an excuse backfires as Anri and Margaret blindfold him and wash her body so he can't do this. He does enjoy the sensation of being scrubbed down in a woman's body while blindfolded though.
  • Oblivious to Love: Justified with Yuna, at least. The fact that she's rejected him so many times as well as constantly comparing him to Shion killed any expectations of him thinking that she would fall for him, which comes back to bite her when she does.
  • Orphan's Ordeal: Touka became orphaned during the war between the Kingdoms of Farom and Allard a year before the opening of the hell gate because his father wanted to become a war profiteer, during which he made it back alive by the skin of his teeth. He became a master trapper in the mean time under Ethel's tutelage, and only made it back alive out of his desire to see Yuna once again.
  • The Real Heroes: Shion tells Milly that he only made it in time to Elbania to rescue them from the demon army because someone had laid traps all over the town's surrounding area, considerably hindering the demon army's mobility. Milly later adds two and two together, recognizing the trappers as Touka and Ethel.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Played with. She lusts over every pretty woman he meets, but he only loves Yuna, who is his sole true north.
  • Summon Magic: As long as he finds a way to reach a mana level of at least six, and has his original body present, he's able to summon Shion's soul from the Realm of the Holy Sword to assist him in battle.
  • Took a Level in Badass: At the start of the story Touka's mana level is only one, equal to a normal baby. After some training he's reaches level three, which is sufficient enough to maintain his regeneration and some control over the Holy Sword. After the battles at Hell's Gate eventually force Touka back to his own body, it's revealed that his mana level has reached ten, the absolute highest a human can naturally reach.
  • Trap Master: Touka specializes in creating traps, and is especially fond of pitfall types. He was trained in how to make them by Ethel.
  • Weapon of Choice: Traps, giant thigh shaped clubs, and daggers. He regularly transforms the Holy Sword into these to best his enemies. His skill with these is only exceeded by one other weapon: Kneesocks. As long as there are undressed thighs present he's able to move with superhuman speed to slip them on.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Does this to Shion after he confesses that he's the worst person ever and that he's really no hero.

Shion Bladedarts

The hero himself, Shion dies by falling on a trap set up by Touka, and his body is then animated by Anri by using Touka's soul. Originally from the small town of Ordzelk, Shion was a humble blacksmith who, upon being prompted by his friend Leonard, took the mantle of the hero and closed the hell gate 3 years prior.
  • Always Save the Girl: He goes out of his way to do anything he can to let Anri just live a normal happy life. Including improperly sealing Hell's Gate so it'll open early to not cut off her mana supply, ultimately leading to wide spread death and destruction. This is part of what eventually drove him to commit suicide by willingly falling into one of Touka's traps.
  • Celibate Hero: Played with. He showed little interest in women and never engaged in romantic relationships with anyone he met. He rejected Maragaret's betrothal, though it's revealed that it's not that he doesn't want to; it's that he's plaged with overwhelming grief.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: This is what ends up kicking off the entire plot. The seemingly invincible hero falls into a completely mundane spiked pit trap and just dies.
    • Driven to Suicide: Shion knew all along that Touka had a deadly trap there. He chose to purposely fall in and die out of grief, guilt, and despair.
  • Fallen Hero: Once the truth about things is revealed he admits this is how he thinks of himself. Touka agrees and even declares that they're both the worst of the worst, but reminds him of the good he did and that, by working together, they can be magnificent heroes in the end.
Shion: "Touka... I'm not an admirable hero like everyone thinks. I'm a criminal who committed an unatonable sin... I'm also a weakling who ended up running from reality. You can't find a hero worse than me... I... I am..."
  • I'm Not a Hero, I'm...:
    • He had confessed to Milly that he only made it in time to Elbania to save her and Yuna from the demon army because someone had carpeted the area surrounding the town with traps that hindered the demons' mobility. Milly later infers that the trappers were Touka and Ethel, them being the reason there were survivors from Elbania in the first place.
    • Confesses that he's the greatest criminal in history by not completely sealing the hell gate.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero!: He caused the new wave of demonic attacks due to the fact that he left the hell gate ajar, as closing it would have killed Anri.
  • Not So Above It All: He's a thigh man much like Touka, though he's far less open about it and they disagree on whether the ideal thigh is in kneesocks or bare. When not providing advice he's observing Touka's personal heaven within the Realm of the Holy Sword, which is just filled with beautiful girls in naked kneesocks or observing the constant Fanservice going on around Touka himself.
  • Plot-Triggering Death: His death due to Touka's trap is what sets off the story, as Anri witnesses the death and forces Touka's soul into Shion's body, forcing him to take the mantle of hero.
  • Spirit Advisor: After being revealed to still be present within the Holy Sword, he regularly talks with Touka in an attempt to help him through whatever the current problem may be.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Shion receives a vague one from other spirits within the Holy Sword about not letting Touka in on some secret, and for not simply accepting the personalized paradises the world inside the sword offers. After the party learns Farom's secret directly, Touka attacks Shion and demands to know why he kept it a secret from them.

Yuna Yunis

The daughter of a former knightly house, Yuna is Touka's neighbor and childhood friend at the village of Cheza, a beautiful but confrontational girl. She accompanies Touka when his consciousness is transferred to Shion's body, becoming his constant companion. Like Touka, Yuna and her family are originally from Elbania, having been rescued by Shion in the nick of time from the town's destruction by the demon army.
  • Action Girl: Yuna is not the kind of girl who is shy in the way of administering knuckle sandwiches.
  • Buxom Is Better: She is beyond shapely, remaining at Touka's sight even after meeting other gorgeous women.
  • Full-Contact Magic: Yuna's collection of mana crystals all lean toward physical amplification, which she uses to great effect. Touka once comments on the Yunis being a family of martial artists and it shows when this is how she goes about achieving her dream of being a mage.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: Her Tsundere tendencies towards Touka come back to bite her in the ass once she finally confesses, as Touka comes to disbelieve everything she says because her previous actions don't line up with it.
  • I Hate Past Me: Yuna becomes tremendously ashamed of her early treatment of Touka, as the person who saved her in the firt place was Touka and not Shion.
  • Informed Attractiveness: Albeit she isn't drawn that differently from other girls, Yuna is beautiful enough to be commended by it by Kyle (keeping in mind that the guy has such an ego that he literally thinks he's God himself).
  • Legally Dead: As stated on Touka's entry, both Yuna and him were declared legally dead in Cheza because they left without telling anyone, and the villagers assumed that both killed themselves out of the guilt of having killed Shion.
  • Love Interest: She's Touka's, who has loved her all of his life.
  • Magical Girl Warrior: As a child her idea of becoming a mage was that she'd be "Mahou Shoujo Yuna Rin" and even made a costume for it. Touka uses his knowledge of this to prove it's him in Shion's body. Removing her Power Limiter choker causes her current outfit to disintegrate and reform into a stereotypical Magical Girl outfit.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She spends almost as much time as Kyle naked. One Omake has it pointed out to her and she's quickly disturbed by being the same kind of character as him.
  • One True Love: She is Touka's, who pushed to remain alive just to see her again. Touka meets many great girls in his quest, but Yuna is always first in his heart.
  • She's Got Legs: There are many a women with great gams in the story, but Yuna's are second to none. According to Touka, she's effectively unparalleled in this respect.
  • Witch Species: She is an enormously powerful witch whose powers are sealed by the choker she wears. She does this in order to lead a normal life.

Anri Haynesworth

A young girl of the Necromancer race, Anri forces Touka to take the mantle of hero by using the dead Shion's body.
  • Always Save The Boy: Her devotion toward Shion and Touka drives her to do anything for them including betraying them in hopes that that would be sufficient enough to break them out of their own drives to save her when it becomes apparent to her that she has to choose between her life or Touka's.
  • Blackmail: She convinces Touka to continue Shion's quest under the threat of destroying his original body if he fails to comply, which would result in his death.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Albeit she's a powerful Necromancer, little Anri is a royal mess.
  • Defeat by Modesty: Decides that her way to fight is to destroy her enemies clothes with her black flames.
  • Determinator: Touka once told her to stay by his side nothing will stop her from doing so. That such a simple reason was all it took to drive her to carve a path through a small army of demons infuriates Kyle, though she's quick to correct him that she didn't need to fight for long as the diminished numbers were enough to inspire nearby soldiers to finish the job for her.
  • Everyone's Baby Sister: She becomes this in Touka's party.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Learning the truth about Necromancers, and above that that her survival would necessarily mean Touka's death by mana poisoning, drives her to abandon the group in favor of her brother and Roselia to put distance between herself and Touka so that she can eventually undermine Friedrich's plans and sacrifice herself to permanently seal the Gate to save Touka.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Natural Necromancers are the result of humans who were sealed inside Hell's Gate breeding with demons, making them half demons.
  • Living MacGuffin: Turns out, Anri is the reason Shion was ultimately unable to close the doors of the Demon World, as doing so would kill Anri, who is a Necromancer.
  • Marry Them All: She seems to be in support of things going this way. After finding out Margaret is in love with Touka as well Anri only objects to Touka living in the city. When Margaret assumes this means they're rivals, Anri corrects her that they're comrades.
  • Necromancer: Racially and by skill. Anri is proficient at moving human souls between bodies, preserving soulless bodies, and reanimating the dead to fight for her. Unfortunately she is also noted to be the weakest of Necromancers, only being equal to the strongest of normal humans. This comes up in the first fight against Kyle, she can control an army of skeletons or she can, with a little difficulty, control a single demon but not both at the same time.
  • Nice Girl: Anri is tremendously sweet, doting and boundlessly enthusiastic, this being the reason why both Shion and Touka go through great lengths to keep her alive.
  • The Nudifier: Uses her dark flames to destroy her enemies clothes, leaving them defeated by modesty. Her fighting style doesn't work however if her enemies have no shame in stripping themselves first (mainly because they stripped already in the first place).
  • Olympus Mons: She ends up gaining control of the Demon Lord's corpse.
  • Super Gullible: A great deal of humor related to Anri is due to her tendecy to take everything she's told at face value.
  • Took a Level in Badass: That part about her being the weakest Necromancer above? That all changes when she gains control of the Demon Lord's corpse. This effectively makes her one of the most powerful characters in the series. Also because of the amount of battles she fought during her adventure and shaking away the doubts inside of her, she was able to unlock the latent power inside of her which caused her mana level to grow from 9 to 60.
  • Undying Loyalty: To the group as a whole, but especially toward Shion and Touka, simply because they treat her like a person rather than a monster.
  • You Are Worth Hell: Anri is such a beautiful person altogether that Shion was unable to close the hell gate in order to keep her alive.

Margaret Farom

The Third Princess of the Kingdom of Farom and the late hero's fiancée. She accompanies Touka in order to make sure that his behavior and training is befitting of the hero's mantle. Known due to her immense appetite and propensity to gain weight exponentially, she is later revealed to be a specialist in defensive magic.
  • The Ace:
    • She excels at almost everything she does, but she happens to be a very insecure person.
    • Margaret happens to be one of the most successful magical beings ever created through artificial means, this being the reason why her master Isaac values her so much, as she's the intended vessel of the Necromancer Claudia
  • Action Girl: In spite of being a princess, Margaret is trained in combat and magic by Isaac, and has longed to be an adventurer for a long time, this being the reason she joins Touka's party.
  • Artificial Human: Overlapping with Creating Life, Margaret is a magically created human purposely built by the Necromancers ruling her country in order to serve as the vessel for the Necromancer Claudia, the Kingdom's Prime Minister, using Margaret's position in order to remain in power indefinitely; to ensure her aptitude to become a vessel, her master Isaac made sure to train her personally.
  • Beauty Mark: She has a mole under the corner of her right eye. This later comes into discussion as a mark of her identity as princess.
  • Balloon Belly: Due to her mana loss disease she needs to occasionally eat in excess, dozens of meals within minutes, to stop her body from withering away. She'll spend a few hours inflated after doing so before returning to normal. After being cured her old eating habits occasionally come back, leaving her enlarged until she actively burns it all away through excessive magic use.
  • Damsel in Distress: Margaret has a very low self-esteem, so most of her efforts focus in not becoming a burden to Touka. In spite of her best efforts, Margaret usually ends up having to be rescued by Touka, though she has gained some agency of her own with time.
  • Emotion Suppression: The cause behind her mana loss disease is due to her emotionally shutting down due to the way she was raised. Spending time with Touka and falling in love with him end up breaking her past this and curing her.
  • Foreshadowing: Her initial reaction to Touka's skeletal form is to panic, assuming it's another one of her father's pranks. Turns out Larkvlad is an ancient necromancer.
  • Harmful Healing: Her mana sword is normally considered a tool to sustain others, however she quickly learned to weaponize it by pushing her enemies' mana levels beyond what their bodies can handle.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Margaret happens to have a rather low opinion of herself and her capacity in spite of her tremendous potential.
  • Literally Shattered Lives: Diana subjected her to this, turning her body from her breasts down to stone then crushing her with tentacles. While Touka was eventually able to save her the incident had left her completely traumatized, leaving her incapable of facing any powerful monstrous opponent and needing to binge eat to distract herself from her constant terror.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Played for laughs. The mana loss disease is implied to only be part of Margaret's overeating; stress-binging and plain gluttony play an equally important role in her weight problems, if not a more prevalent one.
  • Ninja Log: Empty Exuvia allows a person to dodge any attack at all by instantaneously leaving their clothes behind to catch the attack. She will occasionally retain some of her underwear for modesty's sake.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: When Mayor Burns recognizes her she instantly draws a second mole on her face and uses that as proof that she's not the princess. He's fooled, but absolutely nobody else is.
  • Temporary Bulk Change: Even after being cured of the mana loss disease, Margaret is remarkably susceptible to gain weight and lose it in a matter of minutes/hours/days to the point that it's a Running Gag in the manga. Her capacity to handle such fluctuations in body size is a testament to her excellent physical condition, and to the possibility that she was biologically and magically engineered by her father the King, who is a Necromancer, for purposes yet to be revealed.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Margaret seems to be the go-to character to traumatize. It starts with being jerked around by Touka in his more villainous period, nearly gets murdered by Leland, a man she trusted, because he was attracted to her bones, gets a seemingly useless power in her attempts to become stronger, gets shattered by Diana, her arm snapped by Wilenheim, injected with a poison that will kill her in minutes by Goering, and learns that her father is a Necromancer, meaning she's not even human herself.
  • Tyke-Bomb: From an early age she was raised strictly toward the end goal of bearing a hero's child, who would in turn be used to fulfill some currently unspecified prophecy.
  • Weapon of Choice: Bows. As the series progresses she begins to use magical ice and explosive arrows. After mastering some defensive magic she gains the high level version with provides her with with a sword that restores mana and a shield that blocks magic but shatters to physical blows.

    Shion's Former Party

Kyle Osment

A nobleman hailing from the Earldom of Alnudas, Kyle is an overtly ambitious, narcissistic and disloyal individual with a penchant for nudity.
  • A God Am I: He regularly goes out of his way to declare himself an existence parallel to the gods. He was doing this even as a child, declaring that the rules of tag to not apply to him because of this.
  • The Ace: He aims for nothing less than absolute perfection, initially appearing to be this to anyone that simply knows of him.
  • Always Someone Better: Kyle never quite got past the fact that Shion was the Hero instead of him; this happens to be the reason he hates Touka too.
  • Broken Ace: In reality though Kyle is a horribly broken man with a god complex who would gladly doom the world by killing the hero if it that's what it takes for him to remain the best.
  • Eureka Moment: After being defeated by Touka twice he comes to the realization that "strength" is not the only form of power, that there are many other forms such as Touka's creativity, and that he must master them all to truly be the greatest. He spells this out directly fighting against Albert, who he views as nothing but a reflection of his former narrow views.
  • Flanderization: Originally introduced as a powerful former ally of Shion who's only desire was take his body and become him in order to be the greatest existence, only losing his clothes after Anri has a demon corpse spray him with weak acid. All further appearances have him border on being Shion's Stalker with a Crush with a habit of getting nude for whatever reason, eventually going so far as to learn Margaret's Empty Exuvia skill just to turn his spontaneous nudity into a defensive ability and adapts it into Kyle Instant Dressing Technique: God's Clothing to redress and strip again.
    • This eventually goes so far as to have his home town be called "Alnudas", and his siblings Selenia and Ryle introduced scolding their butler for trying to get them to get dressed as "there's nothing wrong with walking around nude in their own house".
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Kyle's only loyalty is to himself, putting him at odds with Touka almost as much as it puts them fighting together.
  • Light 'em Up: Kyle's primary use of magic involves creating blades of light to cut apart his enemies. The high level variant of this spell is revealed to be angelic light constructs with bladed limbs.
  • Ninja Log: After learning the Empty Exuvia technique from Margaret he figured out to reverse the process to permit multiple uses of it, calling it Kyle Instant Dressing Technique: God's Clothing. Most of his fights from that point on involve his opponent chasing him through a cloud of shredded clothing.
  • Oxymoronic Being: With no hyperbole, Kyle is a person whose pride is both his greatest asset and his worst weakness. His pride makes him tremendously tenacious and a pain to fight against, but that pride makes him overlook extremely obvious logical conclusions, making him easy pickings through the right approach. He's not only proud, he's stupidly proud.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Kyle essentially lives by this. Regularly trying to kill Shion gets him brought into his party, openly declaring his intent to kill Touka to get his body gets brushed off by everyone but Touka himself, his Empty Exuvia and God's Clothing combo fighting style proves to be as effective as his powerful light magic, and he can casually bathe in the women's bathing area unnoticed until actually trying to talk with the women there.

Nicola Lullus

One of Shion's former party members, a born witch and currently a sage. Resentful of anyone that isn't Shion, she currently lives on an island along with its inhabitants where she conducts her research.
  • Accidental Pervert:
    • She attempts to use Dorothy to run some tests to find a way for her artificial human magic beings to live where there is little mana. To make the readings as accurate as possible, Dorothy needs to be in as little clothing as possible. One villager sees this and assumes that Nicola just has a hobby of walking beautiful naked women around like dogs, leading to rumors being spread about her.
    • It gets worse after she makes gloves to analyze the mana resistance of magic beings' skin, as another villager walks in on her apparently groping Dorothy's bare breasts while proclaiming that hers "are way better than the others'".
  • Foil: She is one for Yuna. She's what Yuna would have gone through had her witch powers not been sealed by Fiery.
  • Jerkass: As stated on the intro, she resents anyone who isn't Shion.
  • Mad Scientist: One that delves in human and supernatural creatures experimentation.
  • Troll: She throws Touka's party into a jungle trap under the guise of raising their mana, but also, just to see them suffer.

Leonard Craven

Shion's best friend. He is the one who caused Shion to become the hero by tricking him into taking the hero test. He holds a deep hatred for Necromancers for causing the death of his lover Bridget.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: While sacrificing himself to buy time he begs Diana to rescue Touka and the other survivors of Larkvlad's attack, noting that he never thought he'd ask a Necromancer for help.
  • Berserk Button: Necromancers. Due to a single one being responsible for Bridget's death Leonard has become obsessed with personally killing all of them, which leads to his alliance with Roselia. His respect for Shion, Touka, and Anri's actions is only sufficient enough in keeping her a low priority, but he still fully intends to kill her as well.
  • Redemption Equals Death: He betrays Roselia to help save Touka and his allies from an army of Larkvlad's directly controlled zombies, and is ultimately left behind as the dungeon formed around Hell's Gate disappears. Touka and Shion do want to believe that he found a way to survive despite this.

Bridget Bladedarts

Shion's sister and party member. A former blacksmith by trade like Shion was, she was killed by a Necromancer before the story began which caused Leonard to hate their kind.

Beatrice

A late mage and childhood friend of Shion, Leonard and Bridget, who tended a shop next to the Bladearts blacksmithy. She was Shion's party member until she died of causes yet to be disclosed.

    Milly's Party

Milly Yunis

Yuna's sister and Touka's childhood friend, a Sword Maiden who wields the artificial Holy Sword Durandal. Milly became a hero in order to raise funds to rebuild the ruined Elbania.
  • Everyone's Baby Sister: To her chagrin, Touka has never seen her as anything more than Yuna's little sister and a childhood friend in spite of her wishes otherwise.
  • Loving Bully: She made Touka swear to marry her if she defeated him 100 times when they were young. She then dedicated the time henceforth to beat the crap out of him every time they met.
  • The Unchosen One: She wields one of the artificial Holy Swords, Durandal. While incapable of sealing Hell's Gate, the sword enables her to kill demons on the level of the Four Dukes or a Demon Lord.

Fieri Yunis

Yuna and Milly's father, who is a master hand-to-hand combatant. A former Yonkishi of the Farom Kingdom, he has a penchant for groping women.

Shannon Petrarca

A fidgety magician and healer for Milly's party. He is the son of a former servant of the Yunis family and grew up with Yuna and Milly back in Elbania, this being the reason he looks and acts like a girl.

  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Touka originally thought that Shannon was a girl and is furious that Yuna was keeping such a beautiful girl secret from him.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: He's regularly forgotten, a trait regularly brought up in various Omake.

Dorothy Eleonora

An exceedingly powerful and adept magician, and former companion of Shion, who has chronic somnolence.

  • Artificial Human: She is a magically engineered humanoid created by Nicola and Ripley from the mortal remains of Dorothy, Ripley's pet cat.
  • Sleepwalking: Dorothy is almost always asleep regardless of what is going on, but is able to simulate everything going on around her to some degree of accuracy allowing her to function regardless.

    Other Allies

Thera Carmen

The Kingdom of Farom's Yonshiki (the Captain of Knights), Thera is considered to be one of the greatest swordswomen in Farom. Unbendingly loyal and by-the-book, she disapproves of Touka's pervertedness, but eventually becomes one of his most reliable allies.

  • Defector from Decadence: Unlike Gilford and Azelstein, Thera's loyalty is to the people and abandons her role as one of Farom's Yonkishi after learning the truth.
  • Love Interest: To Colin, having fallen in love with him.
  • Marshmallow Hell: Accidentally ends up giving one to Touka, catching his severed skeletal head in between her breasts after Isaac punts it.
  • Ninja Log: She learned the Empty Exuvia technique from Isaac, who was promptly arrested for public nudity, and used it once to get Fieri fired as people assumed his usual behavior ended up going to the extreme of stripping a woman in the middle of a duel.
  • Red Baron: Currently serves as one of Farom's Yonkishi and is also known as the Lightning Sword.
  • Shock and Awe: Her primary method of fighting, hence the title of Lightning Sword.
  • Tsundere: She gets incredibly bashful when Neigan says that she'd been personally caring for Colin during his week long coma, insisting that she was only doing it out of concern for her subordinate's health while avoiding eye contact and blushing.

Blake the Twin Spear / Blakal "Blake" Roselia

A famous adventurer and fighter, Blake is known to have slain "100 four Dukes" and is prone to being given credit for accomplishments he didn't do. In reality, Blake is an altogether terrible warrior and an incredibly unreliable companion known for his deadpan delivery and unwarranted airs of importance.

Colin Brad

A young ruffian and con-man who is a cousin of Kyle, he grows up resentful of the world due to being compared with his overachieving cousin. Capable of creating electrically-charged decoys that resemble himself, and is known to swindle adventurers and due to his nihilistic views. He met Neigan at an adventurers guild after trying to prank him. Often at odds with Touka's party due to his antagonism, Colin eventually becomes their ally.

  • Bequeathed Power: He gives Touka his enchanted needles and mana crystals after being bitten by a zombie, in hopes that Touka can use them to reverse the curse before it's too late.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Shoves Thera out of the way, taking a direct attack from Larkvlad's zombie. He manages to remind her that a knight serves their country's people, not a king, before falling into a brief coma due to his injuries.
  • Love Interest: He's Thera's, who falls in love with him due to their adventures together.
  • Ninja Log: Colin is unique in that he doesn't use Empty Exuvia. Instead he leaves behind an electrical copy of himself that explodes, electrocuting whoever was unfortunate enough to try attacking him.
  • Only Sane Man: When traveling with Blake he's the only one to see past the Memetic Badass, much like Touka's group. Meeting up with Yuna and the others in Arad, and hearing her criticize people's excessive faith in Blake, is enough to bring him to tears for finally having someone normal around again.
  • Shock and Awe: He uses an electrical mana crystal much like Thera does. However where hers creates a blade of electricity, his just blasts a wide area randomly unless guided by enchanted needles.
  • Troll: He's quite open about enjoying deceiving people, gaining pleasure from seeing their reactions when they realize they've been betrayed. He gets better about it after Moalan.
  • The Unfavorite: His mother would beat him for not living up to standards set by his cousin Kyle. The abuse drove him to go out of his way to deceive everyone about anything, reasoning that if the rest of the world is nothing but fools he must be incredibly talented himself.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: When Blake ends up injured the rest of the group tries to find a way to pay for recovery magic. He and Thera end up working as pole dancers and "Colin-chan" ends up being declared the most beautiful girl the audience had ever seen. They both agree to never speak of it again to spare both of their prides.

Neigan Bourne

Neigan is a tall and intimidating man who is Colin's constant companion. Known for his rough looks ever since he was born, Neigan becomes Colin's companion due to being pranked by him into talking to the woman of a notoriously violent adventurer, earning Colin his gratitude due to the fact that he's never been able to talk to a woman. Kind and lonely, Neigan tends to bring Colin's better nature in spite of his nihilism.

  • Cannot Talk to Women: He is extremely shy around women, partially due to insecurity over his looks. Colin tricking him into talking with Diane prompts him to start following Colin around out of gratitude as, despite getting beaten by Fushios the incident proved to be a first step in overcoming this.
  • Face of a Thug: He was born with a naturally aggressive looking face and his pet cat scarring him only made it worse.
  • Gentle Giant: He'd like to be, but people's reactions to his face drive him into shadier work. He jumps at the chance to turn his life around the instant Moalan's zombie outbreak gives him the opportunity to be a hero.
  • Nice Guy: He's a sweetheart.

    Arad Labyrinth Adventurer's Guild Members

Pete Yablakan

An adventurer and con man, Pete is a swindler who gets rid of adventurers and heroes who intend to close the hell gate because it would cripple business in Arad.
  • Due to the Dead: When Thera calls for all those who fell in the battle at Hell's Gate have their heads destroyed, Pete can be seen lamenting that they're not even being allowed to mourn their fallen friends. The alternative is, unfortunately, to leave them to be turned into zombies.
  • Fat Bastard: Pete was originally quite fat, and his weight loss happens just before siding with Touka honestly.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Apples and kindness. Specifically crushing people who trust him with suddenly massive apples.
Pete: "My motto is to treat everyone with kindness! Because through kindness, trust is obtained. Once you have their trust, their lives are as good as yours!"
  • Meaningful Name: Yablaka is Russian for apple.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: After dropping his weight this would be the most apt description for Pete.

Sharif Zanga

A towering adventurer, Sharik wears an armor that heightens the offensive and defensive capabilities of equipment. He is unjustly labeled as a pervert by Touka.
  • An Axe to Grind: His main weapon is a massive axe, and under the effects of Ein Frogbitus, his mana crystal, it becomes capable of cleaving even a building in half.
  • Hulking Out: His mana crystal allows him to enhance his equipment, and doing so causes him to appear much larger. It's noted that the change in appearance is only cosmetic and that all the power is actually in the person's weapons, armor, and clothes.
  • Lightning Bruiser: His strengthened state is noted to be abnormally fast and powerful, as well as resistant to magical attacks. While Anri, through the use of a demon, Yuna, and Rexboz are able to push him around or subdue him the only character who has actually visibly damaged him in that state is Larkvlad through the use of a mere zombie.
  • Red Baron: When Pete is naming off notable guild members, he calls Sharif "Sharif Zanga the Black Knight" and notes that he'll even turn on other adventurers for the right price.
  • Spikes of Villainy: His mana crystal puts these on just about everything, even cloth, as shown when Margaret and Yuna use it.
  • Undying Loyalty: Toward Touka after learning that he killed Shion and took his body. He doesn't buy the story that it was an accident, fully believing Touka to be an even more evil person than himself and thus worth serving.
    • Diana showing up shortly after and smothering Touka with her thighs does little to help Touka's attempt at setting the record straight. Figuring that he even went as far as to "make the strongest Necromancer his woman" Sharif declares Touka his idol.
    • This eventually spreads to the others, declaring themselves no longer just adventurers but "part of Touka's evil organization".

Speedy Verga

A portly adventurer and a partner of Sharif.
  • Acrofatic: His legs are actually transplanted demon legs, granting him greatly increased speed despite his size.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Almia notes that they can only assume the worst for the adventurers that did not escape on the flying fortress. While Verga was not directly present for Larkvlad's attack at Hell's Gate, having not been seen since Margaret incapacitated him, he would still have been in the general area when it happened and is not shown among the survivors.

Looter Fushios

A clownish adventurer who has a mana crystal that can make him revive 3 times a day. He is another partner of Sharif.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Almia notes that they can only assume the worst for Fushios, and the other adventurers that did not escape on the flying fortress. Whether or not he's dead, and if he is what became of his uniquely powerful crystal, has yet to be confirmed.
  • Four Is Death: He possesses a mana crystal which will revive him up to three times a day, meaning he must be killed four times before it can stick. He dies twice in the process of explaining this.

Diane Gizmin

An adventurer with a penchant for bikinis, she is the reason Colin and Neigan become friends.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Her: Her body is seen among the dead following Larkvlad's attack at Hell's Gate.
  • Ms. Fanservice: It's spelled out the instant she's introduced. The usual name and occupation box that accompanies new characters simply informs readers that she is an adventurer and swimsuit collector. That's all she's ever seen wearing.
  • Satellite Character: She's basically there to do three things: Be used by Colin in a prank on Neigan, be Fushios' girlfriend, and to stand around in nothing but a tiny swimsuit.

Almia the Puppeteer

A somber and prim girl adventurer, she uses puppets to attack.
  • Adventurer Archaeologist: Identifies the "treasury" at Arad as actually being a temple dedicated to the war goddess Famria, and provides some explanation on the history when asked about it.
  • Marionette Master: She fights using an armed giant stuffed bunny, and is shown to be capable of holding her own against demons this way.

Relay Man

An adventurer tasked with conveying the conversations between Touka and Yuna at the Arad Labyrinth after the latter is captured by the forces of Roselia.
  • Action Survivor: Despite having no apparent capacity for combat, he manages to survive the battle at Hell's Gate. And is promptly put in charge of one region among a continent wide simultaneous strike against the Necromancers.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Relay Man's actual name is unknown. Even on Touka's map detailing who will be attacking where, he's simply "Relay Man".
  • Mission Control: He serves this function by simply restating what he hears through his communication bracelets. Their range is limited so he is placed centrally so he can relay what is happening on either end. He's actually disappointed he doesn't have to do this anymore since the new communication bracelets can communicate through longer distances.

The Necromancers, Four Dukes, and Allies

Diego Valentine

A psychopathic Necromancer, Diego is known for his manipulative nature towards both demons and Necromancers.
  • An Axe to Grind: He creates an axe before attempting to attack Touka directly after his zombies are contained inside a barrier created by the Holy Sword.
  • Back from the Dead: He was supposedly killed by lower ranked demons after being weakened by Touka, but since the lower ranked demons ate his flesh, he was somehow able to revive himself by taking over one of their bodies.
  • Blood Magic: He uses his own blood to create barriers as well as to control any severed limbs
  • Domestic Abuse: Declares Adele as his woman, and she seems to have some affection for him as well. This doesn't stop him from regularly beating her over perceived slights and ultimately absorbing her into Beltex
  • Necromancer: Racially and by skill. He specializes in long range mass remote necromancy, suitable for controlling a Zombie Apocalypse as he sees fit. He is also able to possess Beltex's corpse to use its powers as his own.
  • Readings Are Off the Scale: When viewed through a mana crystal that gauges relative mana levels, he appears as a vaguely humanoid mass of light within even more light. Anri explains that the one to ten scale only applies to normal humans, supernatural beings such as Necromancers and Demons can go well beyond. Diego himself has a mana level of forty.
  • Seer: Possess a mana crystal of clairvoyance, allowing him to see anywhere he wishes to better control things through remote necromancy.
  • Tears of Blood: All of the initial Necromancers introduced have some sort of constantly flowing body fluid, and in his case it's a constant stream of bloody tears.

Beltex

A gigantic demon an one of the Four Demon Dukes slain by Shion. His corpse is now under Diego's necromantic control.
  • The Assimilator: Beltex's power is to absorb anything and is able to gain the abilities of those it consumes.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: As one of the Four Dukes it was only capable of being harmed by the Holy Sword. When it's corpse is used as a mana crystal, it provides regeneration that can only be inhibited by the Holy Sword as well.
  • Posthumous Character: Originally killed years before the story begins, Beltex's corpse serves as a power source and weapon for Diego.

Friedrich "Fried" Norshteyn

Friedrich is one of the leaders of the Necromancers and Anri's older brother. Unlike Diego, Friedrich has a great distaste for killing unnecessarily.

Portaqueth

One of the Four Dukes slain by Shion, who has the capacity of producing portals. His body is wielded by Friedrich.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: As one of the Four Dukes it was only capable of being harmed by the Holy Sword. When it's corpse is used as a mana crystal, it provides regeneration that can only be inhibited by the Holy Sword as well.
  • Posthumous Character: Originally killed years before the story begins, Portaqueth's corpse serves as a power source and weapon for Friedrich.
  • Thinking Up Portals: Portaqueth's corpse can be used to produce portals leading to anywhere the user has seen. Friedrich took this as it was the obvious "leader" ability and has used it to move the group around, redirect incoming attacks, and simply displace entire groups of enemies.

Diana Filion

A yandere Necromancer and seductress, Diana is considered one of the most unhinged Necromancers and overall, the most powerful. She uses her ample bosom to turn foes into stone.
  • Bi the Way: States that she's falling in love with Margaret as not only is her appearance brimming with beauty, her heart is dazzling, after being forgiven for what she had done.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: Diana sides with the humans against both her fellow Necromancers and the nobility (who are Necromancers too) out of her love for Touka
  • Love at First Punch: Well "Love at first stripping, followed by petrification in a humiliating pose.". Ever since she recovered she has been utterly charmed by Touka's "benevolence, generosity, and kindness". Taking her "first time", being defeated, helped too.
  • Necromancer: Racially and by skill.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Stating that Touka took "her first time" in front of Yuna immediately gets her to briefly turn on him, not knowing that she's talking about "her first time being defeated".
  • Power-Upgrading Deformation: She treats the full use of Neuremphia like this and tries to avoid it. Sprouting tentacles from her back is apparently fine, but summoning the full form of Neuremphia is just unsightly. Maria and Meria's fused state is the first person seen to drive her into using it.
  • Taken for Granite: This is her primary method of attacking. While using her mana crystal anyone who ends up looking at her breasts will find that in place of nipples are massive eyes and themselves turned to stone quickly after. This ability is turned on her twice, once by Touka managing to take her crystal and again by Yuvel's counter attack magic. She recovers from both, thanks to Ethel and Thera respectively.
  • Vain Sorceress: She is by far the most willing to show off her body, and can easily be swayed into things, such as trading away Psychalias for Neuremphia, by appealing to her allegedly unmatched level of power.
  • Yandere: She's unhinged and unashamedly murderous even after she becomes Touka's ally.
  • World's Strongest Woman: Or rather Necromancer in her case since her mana level is 80 which is the highest level of the Necromancers.

Neuremphia

One of the Four Dukes slain by Shion, a squid-like demon with the capacity to turn people into stone. His body is wielded by Diana after Kyuden refuses to wield it.
  • Combat Tentacles: Neuremphia has them, and using it as a mana crystal allows for the creation of such as well. The tentacles are capable of channeling whatever other magics their user may have access to.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: As one of the Four Dukes it was only capable of being harmed by the Holy Sword. When it's corpse is used as a mana crystal, it provides regeneration that can only be inhibited by the Holy Sword as well.
  • Posthumous Character: Originally killed years before the story begins, Neuremphia's corpse serves as a power source and weapon for Diana.

Kyuden Algren

An extremely sickly Necromancer and an ally of Diana; she's a dainty, girly girl.
  • Functional Genre Savvy: Upon being told that she's getting Neuremphia, whose ability is to produce tentacles, she immediately imagines being stuck barely dressed, surrounded by tentacles, and being treated like a pervert. She immediately convinces Diana that Neuremphia is beyond her mana capacity to control and that, as the strongest, only Diana would be able to handle it. Diana buys it and trades Psychalias for it, becoming known as both the most powerful and most perverted Necromancer in the process.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She has some courtesy of Dominique, who recognized her as a cute girl beyond her mask.
  • Ill Girl: She is the Necromancer who is most affected by the low mana environment outside the hell gate, and is constantly feverish and bronchial. Even at Nicola's high-mana island, she remains symptomatic.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: Due to her garb she appears to be a young boy, but by removing her cloak it's readily apparent that she's a beautiful girl.
  • Necromancer: Racially and by skill.

Psychalias

  • Nigh-Invulnerability: As one of the Four Dukes it was only capable of being harmed by the Holy Sword. When it's corpse is used as a mana crystal, it provides regeneration that can only be inhibited by the Holy Sword as well.
  • Posthumous Character: Originally killed years before the story begins, Psychalias's corpse serves as a power source and weapon for Kyuden
  • Teleportation: Psychalias supposedly provides the power of "instant teleportation". How exactly that differs from Portaqueth has not really been seen.

Victor Josef

A gimpish Necromancer who always wears a hood, Victor is a sadistic Necromancer with a childlike behavior who specializes in combining corpses and teleportation.

Ethel Borgnine

A master trapper, a thief and a fugitive, Ethel taught the orphaned Touka the art of trapping and deception while en-route to Elbania after the war between Farom and Allard. After seeing firsthand the hell gate, she decided to side with the Necromancers.
  • Conspicuous Gloves: She is always wearing a pair of arm length gloves. When she wears them into a bath Kyle asks about it, but her explanation is cut short when she realizes it's Kyle soaking next to her in the women's bath and launches him out through the roof.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She is seen on the very first page of the manga, seeming to be just any other looter and implied to be killed off for being right at Hell's Gate when it opens. She turns up again at the end of chapter 38, being noted to seem familiar and chapter 40 outright tells the reader to go back to chapter 1 if they don't remember her.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Similarly to Kyle, Ethel's only in it for herself working equally with Touka and the Necromancers whenever either situation suits her.
  • Informed Attractiveness: Much like Yuna, Ethel gets the attention of Kyle due to her attractiveness, Kyle being an extremely egocentric person to begin with, who doesn't dispense praise without reason.
  • Hidden Depths: Ethel is a fundamentally sweet and kind person, regardless of how she portrays herself.
  • Necromancer: While just a normal human she has access to a mana crystal that grants her the ability to control corpses remotely.
  • Not So Stoic: She has always been proud of Touka and loves him more than what she cares to admit. She's always caught off-guard by the fact that to Touka, it doesn't matter how much she betrays him, he'll always be there for her.
  • The Real Heroes: Both Ethel and Touka are directly responsible for the fact that the inhabitants of the city of Elbania weren't completely annihilated, in spite of Shion getting all of the credit.
  • Red Right Hand: This is the reason for her long gloves never coming off. She has the original Demon Lord's left arm grafted onto her body. At a touch she can temporarily render someone incapable of using magic.
  • Teacher/Student Romance: After traveling with Touka for a while and teaching him to fight and make traps, she begins to enjoy having him around as he's the first person in a long time who's been interested in her as a woman rather than a bounty and tries to convince him that he should just stay with her as Yuna and Milly would likely have moved on. Touka being Touka ruins the moment by pretending to get caught in a deadly trap to bait her out of a bath to slip kneesocks on her.
  • Trap Master: While less prone to relying on them than Touka is, she's still able to make many deadly traps. She was also the one to teach him how to make them in the first place.
  • Tsundere: A minor one towards Touka compared to other female characters. Ethel is given to deny her own love and affection towards him.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Touka has a tendency to bring out the best out of Ethel, as he's readily aware that she loves him more than any commitment that she has to her own selfish plans. The fact that this is brought to her attention makes her love him even more in turn.

Dominique Rin

A former member of the Kingdom of Farom's Magic Warriors, Dominique is the sole survivor of the Corps' failed attack on the Necromancers at Elbania. Margaret's former maid, she was recruited into the Magician Corps due to her high level of mana, but is forced to turn coat when the Corps are annihilated by the Necromancers.
  • Always Someone Better: Dominique is known due to her middling skills, being a relatively weak ally to the Magician Corps and later to the Necromancers.
  • Bare Your Midriff: Her uniform is halfway-destroyed during the battle against the Necromancers and is cropped under the breast area.
  • Don't Make Me Destroy You: She still harbors a massive respect and love towards Margaret and calls her a friend in spite of having learnt the secret of the Farom nobility.
  • Face–Heel Turn: She is forced to join the Necromancers by Friedrich, who doesn't want to kill her.
  • Girly Girl: Unlike her fellow Necromancer ladies (Kyuden, Diana and Ethel), she's the kind of girl who enjoys frills and fashion.
  • Hidden Depths: Dominique is a very sweet person and a doting friend, forming a friendly bond with Kyuden.
  • Important Haircut: She loses her hair to neck level due to an unexpected attack by a demon who tunrs out to be Diego.
  • Love Across Battlelines: She is visibly attracted to Fried, as he refused to kill her alongside the rest of the Magic Warriors. Fried also happens to be the only one of the Necromancers who treats her like a peer.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: The Necromancers tend to forget her presence from time to time.
  • Necromancer: While just a normal human she has access to a mana crystal that grants her the ability to control corpses remotely. She uses this to control her former Magic Knight allies after they're infected with the same transformation curse as the people of Moalan.
  • Sempai Kouhai: She adopts this view when she meets Kayden, and starts treating the young Necromancer as her senior.

Adele

  • Zombie Apocalypse: Causes one in Moalan. While technically neither dead nor undead, the infected people spread their zombie-like state through bites and behave as zombies generally do. This is, however, only the first stage of her magic that transforms humans into demons.

    Kingdom of Farom

Warning! Possible spoilers to the later half of the story. Only read on your own risk. You Have Been Warned

The Kingdom in general

  • Big Bad Duumvirate Larkvlad, Isaac, Naid, and Claudia are eventually revealed to be the true villains of the story, having long since taken over most of the world after killing the gods that ruled over it.
  • Morton's Fork: After Larkvlad and the others go public with the fact that they're Necromancers anyone who resists are killed and turned into zombies. Anyone who accepts being ruled by Necromancers "change sides too quickly and can't be trusted" and are killed and turned into zombies. Anyone who attempts to flee are "rebels and must be executed" and then turned into zombies.
  • The Reveal: It's eventually learned that Larkvlad, Isaac, Naid, and Claudia are the original Necromancers who have been ruling over the world ever since they killed the gods.
  • Walking Spoiler: Farom's leaders have a rather massive secret which changes the nature of the story quite drastically. Close the folder and read no further if you don't want the story spoiled.
  • Your Soul Is Mine: This is how they have sustained themselves for centuries. Like their demonic ancestors, Necromancers can consume souls to prolong their lives in place of mana.

Larkvlad XIII

The King of Farom and Margaret's father. An intimidating, hulking man, he inspires mistrust on Touka from the moment they met.
  • Broken Pedestal: He saved Thera from slavery as a child and raised her to be one of the Yonkishi. She's understandably horrified and dismayed when he reveals his true self to her.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: On the delivering end of one. Directly controlling just one zombie he assassinates Berhard and proceeds to completely crush Roselia's army, Thera's group, Milly's group, the Adventurer's Guild members, Yuna, and Kyle. Touka's group, immediately after returning through Hell's Gate, are greeted by the sight of a sea of corpses left tossed around, shredded, and impaled on various spikes far more gruesome than anything seen in Hell itself. It took all of Yuna and Kyle's strength to destroy just the one zombie. And then he took control of a small group of them, forcing Leonard to make a Heroic Sacrifice just so the few survivors left could run.
  • My Grandson Myself: Every Larkvlad ruling Farom has been the same man.
  • Victory Is Boring: Part of why he decided to reveal himself. After ruling unopposed for centuries after killing the gods, he's bored.

Isaac Gardner

Margaret's personal master and member of the Kingdom of Farom's Royal Court. He is Margaret's martial instructor, who raised her to become the hero's bride. He is known for being personally overprotective of Margaret and due to his troubles with the law for wanton nudity.
  • Broken Pedestal: Played with. He's revealed to be a huge one for Margaret. Especially she spies on him telling Claudia that he only raised Margaret out of boredom and because she's Claudia's intended future vessel. However, his early characterization was notable due to his profound fondness for Margaret, making his ultimate intentions ambiguous.
  • Eyepatch of Power: It hides the telltale red eye of a Necromancer.
  • Ninja Log: The man responsible for the Empty Exuvia technique, he has regularly been arrested for public nudity because of it.

Leland Tolman

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: The man runs an orphanage, is a doctor, and completely willing to hide Anri's identity as a Necromancer. He's also a sadistic serial killer with a skeleton fetish and plans to use Anri by passing the blame for his crimes off on her.
  • Necromancer: Not naturally but he is in possession of mana crystals that grant him their abilities.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: In his mind, if everyone is turned into reanimated skeletons than everyone is equal and there would be no suffering in the world. That everyone would be dead is just a mild momentary inconvenience to him, as he ignores the matter of the spirit and soul already being gone.

Amelia Melia

Margaret's personal maid and body double.
  • Body Double: Originally just Margaret's personal maid, she takes up this role when Margaret join's Touka.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Her reasons for agreeing to be Margaret's double were not entirely pure, as she was expecting to be able to use the situation to get closer to Isaac. Unfortunately for her Isaac had already left to take over Leland's job at the orphanage.

Lothal Charis / Naid Dananvayn

Lothal is puportedly the Court Magician of Farom, but in reality, he's only a zombie puppet of the Necromancer Naid Dananvayn, a demonic-looking individual
  • Actually a Doombot: Lothal is just a zombie controlled by Naid, and is promptly disposed off once he can show off his real form.
  • Horned Humanoid: His demonic heritage is pronounced enough that he has horns on his head. This is likely why he used Lothal as a proxy since he couldn't pass for an ordinary human.

Claudia Avelheid

The Prime Minister of Farom, she is an unhinged and cruel individual with a penchant for human sacrifice.
  • Child Eater: She only likes eating young souls.
  • Fate Worse than Death: She is petrified while still in the hideous demonic form she despises. Since her reincarnation magic only triggers upon death and petrification doesn't kill people, she's trapped in an ugly body forever.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: She hates the demonic appearance her bodies always mutate into. This is why she has a preference for stealing young and beautiful bodies.
  • Sadist: Her way of staving off the boredom of eternal life is torturing people to death in her private dungeon.
  • Taken for Granite: Ethel tricks Claudia into looking at one of Diana's petrifying eyes (which she replaced her missing arm with). Since petrification doesn't kill, Claudia's reincarnation magic isn't triggered, leaving her trapped.
  • Third Eye: She wears a mask to hide this sign of her demonic heritage.
  • Transformation of the Possessed: Her demonic blood is so strong that any body she possesses will immediately develop a Third Eye and eventually mutate into a monstrous demon.

Gilford Vergilis

A Yonkishi of Farom known as "the Ice Sword", Gilford is loyal to the Farom Necromancers in spite of being human.
  • An Ice Person: Wields a sword imbued with powerful ice magic.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: It doesn't matter to him that Larkvlad is a soul-eating zombie making Necromancer. He swore his loyalty to him and that's that.

Azelstein Ortrix

A Yonkishi of Farom known as "the Fire Sword", Gilford is a towering individual who is loyal to the Farom Necromancers like Gilford is.

Reven Knives

A member of Farom's Magic Warriors, Revan was the commander of the expeditionary force that fell to the Necromancers.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: The only other named character among Farom's Magic Warriors besides Dominique. Revan's only purpose is to show off their "instant kill swords" giving Diego a chance to show that he can regenerate even from decapitation and utterly crush them by summoning Beltex. His body is later seen under Dominique's control.

    Kingdom of Roselia

Verdantes Roselia

The King of Roselia and the father of Blakal and Bernhard. He is the main supporter and financier for the Necromancers.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: He himself stated that unlike his two sons, he's actually strong in combat instead of just looking or being mistaken for that, but they don't show his combat ability yet since fighting against the Necromancers will be a hindrance to their true foe the Original 4 Necromancers who are currently controlling Farom.

Berhard Roselia

The Second Prince of Roselia, a manipulative and cowardly individual who takes over the Roselian Army to invade the Arad Labyrinth.
  • Achilles' Heel: The Ruler's Ring will not interfere with a battle between royalty, leaving him defenseless against his brother.
  • The Evil Prince: He arranged to have both his brother Blakal, and Margaret's older sister Charlotte, murdered and made to look like a demon attack. He views himself as The Wise Prince, arguing that their deaths were a necessary evil to protect his country from Farom's control when accused of doing it to be next in line for the throne. While proven correct in regards to Farom, Blake points out that all his actions have been fiendish and challenges him to a duel.
  • Killed Off for Real: Due to having the Ruler's Ring taken after losing his duel, Larkvlad impales him through the heart from behind after he's taken as a prisoner.
  • Mistaken for Badass: Turns out being able to rely on a nearly endless supply of soldiers to do fighting for him has left him with no real skill of his own. His duel against Blake is essentially one screw up after another on both sides being mistaken for ever increasing levels of skill.
  • One-Man Army: Only defensively, thanks to his Ruler's Ring which forces anyone contracted to him to serve as a meat shield for any incoming attack. He notes that anyone wishing to kill him would have to tear through one thousand soldiers.

Goering Vikongs

The 3rd Platoon Leader of the Roselian Army. A master torturer and poisoner.
  • Master Poisoner: His mana crystal allows him to produce a variety of poisons, both paralytic or outright deadly.
  • Third-Person Person: Occasionally refers to himself as "This Goering"

Maria and Meria Ariane

A couple of twin Roselian knights and fencers who have very low self-esteem. They're respectively the 5th and 6th Platoon Leaders of the Roselian Army.
  • Fusion Dance: Their mana crystal allows them to fuse into a massive, nearly demonic, four armed version of themselves.
  • Mood-Swinger: The slightest change in a situation causes them to snap between excessively arrogant and utterly self loathing.
  • Single-Minded Twins: They're essentially the same person. Which is fitting given their particular magic of choice.
  • Uncertain Doom: When Diana defeated them, they were thrown of a cliff. It's unknown if they survived, but it's implied they died since Berhard was able to notice their defeat through the ruler's ring.

Wilenheim Frimgar

The 4th Platoon Leader of the Roselian Army, a gimpish and childish executioner.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: He's a magical being created using human and demon parts.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: He's not an executioner, he just punishes bad children and it's the weight of their sins that kills them.

Albert Roan

The 2nd Platoon Leader of the Roselian Army. Has a past with Kyle Osment, and harbors a great resentment towards him.
  • Always Second Best: He holds a murderous grudge against Kyle specifically for this reason.
  • Ax-Crazy: Once he finally gets Kyle alone he asks him if he remembers a few former classmates, a couple of women who showed interest in him. Confirmation to each is met with a declaration of having murdered them for being close to Kyle, that by killing them it's like killing him as well and taking immense pleasure in their pain and suffering as he did so.
  • The Unchosen One: Like Milly he too possesses an artificial Holy Sword, Brionac, and was given it to be the Hero of the Eastern Continent. It only served to reinforce his belief that he was supposed to be the best, not Kyle.

Yuvel Frobel

  • Combat Sadomasochist: Getting stabbed in the shoulder by Kyle is referred to as feeling "so good" and wanting to share the "pleasure" with him. Given the opportunity to torture Kyle, Yuna, and Margaret, she focuses entirely on Kyle as she "loves breaking strong men"
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Her magic allows her to replicate any attacks that strike her, directed against the attacker, and recover from it when it hits. She claims that this works regardless of how fatal the attack would be. This makes Yuvel an especially deadly part of Berhard's defenses granted by the Ruler's Ring, forcing Thera, Colin, and Neigan to specifically work to disable her ability during the battle at Hell's Gate.
  • Sole Survivor: For the Roselian Army at Hell's Gate, she's the only known survivor of that massacre.
  • Undying Loyalty: She is the only person not willing to stand down during Berhard and Blake's duel, as her loyalty to him was legitimate rather than enforced by the Ruler's Ring through a magical contract as a result of being raised since birth to be loyal to him. One of the few survivors of Larkvlad's attack, and unable to fight back due to being bound, she stayed with Berhard's corpse until she was forced to flee with the others. She later shifts her loyalty to Touka since he was kind to her despite being enemies which is a sign she can trust him.

Frederick Grunberg

A Roselian elite soldier who enters hell alongside Touka.
  • Dark-Skinned Blond: She's tanned and blonde.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Muntz is first seen among a group of female soldiers getting changed while Touka is exploring Arad Castle as a rat. Curiously enough, she's also the only one that was not wrapped up in his antics at that time.
  • Informed Ability: Allegedly stronger than Yuvel, Albert, Goering, Wilenheim, Maria, and Meria. She's never given the chance to prove it, being repeatedly humiliated by Touka and forced to retreat for more clothing. Even after the fight between Leonard and Shion ended and the group was preparing to fight Anri for the Demon Lord's corpse Friedrich simply opens up a portal below them and dumps them somewhere else.

Waldman

    Others

Doto Burns and Horse Bro

  • Cool Horse: "Horse Bro" is able to effortlessly climb castle walls. And ends up doing just so to save him from Naid.
  • Dirty Coward: Mayor Burns does everything in his power to escape the Zombie Apocalypse at Moalan, viewing his citizens as nothing more than a source of wealth. It's only the promise of getting to see Margaret in naked kneesocks and the realization that his citizens were his real wealth, but mostly wanting to see Margaret in naked kneesocks, that drives him to find a way to save his town rather than abandon it.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": All of his citizens just call him Mayor. After being promoted from a Mayor to a Baron they quickly shift to Baron Mayor, and then just Mayor for short.
  • Inexplicably Awesome: Not him, but rather his horse, Horse Bro. For no reason explained, the horse is strong enough to defeat a mid-ranked demon, deflect a sword attack from both Touka and Shion and is able to effortlessly scale the castle walls through jumping despite not having any form of grip with his hooves.
  • Lethally Stupid: To demonstrate how impenetrable his saferoom is he fires off a cannon, immediately alerting all of the zombies of Moalan to his location. Anri is impressed, Touka is furious, and he immediately realizes he just doomed everyone when he's reminded the last set of "impenetrable" walls got breached just moments prior.

Rob Barbarin

An adventurer who always wears a horned helmet. He is a follower of Blake in the interest of appropriating his twin spears to wear on his helmet.
  • Rite of Passage: His reason for following Blake is to find a chance to steal his spears and use them as the horns on his helmet, as his tribe sends its children out to find the greatest horns they can which will then determine their rank as adults. Rob believes Blake's spears would easily place him at the top of the tribe, in a near god like position.
  • Satellite Character: Rob basically exists just to follow Blake around and hype him up. He's disposed of immediately after getting any characterization beyond that.
  • Too Dumb to Live: He finally makes his move on Blake's spears in the middle of a Zombie Apocalypse. He gets attacked for it and has not been seen since.

Rexboz

The guardian demon of the Arad Labyrinth surrounding the hell gate. Extremely sturdy and tenacious, Rexboz is an anthropophagic being who captures and stores its victims in large pools at the labyrinth.
  • Enemy Summoner: If necessary Rexboz's spheres can be altered into numerous "mini Rexboz" enabling them to fight as well, and does so when the Adventurer's Guild figures out the orbs can break by being struck with magic.
  • Gate Guardian: Rexboz is not technically a true demon, but merely a security system created by the dungeon formed around Hell's Gate.
  • Weaponized Teleportation: Rexboz is capable of creating numerous black spheres that teleport anything they touch to a holding area to later be devoured. When angered he opts to just teleport things directly into his stomach to be digested immediately.

Famria, Goddess of War

The head goddess of Arad, Famria led the Heavenly Host who lost against the demons and the Necromancers 1000 years before the current era. Having succumbed to the war, Famria now resides in the Realm of the Holy Sword.
  • Big Good: Grants Touka a temporary mana level of 10, essentially enabling Shion to be constantly reanimated inside Touka's body. Allowing the two to work together to put an end to the Necromancers' rule.
  • Not Quite Dead: She still resides within the Realm of the Holy Sword, despite otherwise being killed off long ago. She implies that the other gods are similarly present.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Moved by Touka and Shion's friendship and resolve to become true heroes, she grants Touka .01% of her power despite the other gods saying that they should not interfere with human affairs.
