Your Turn to Die Characters

    Mr. Chidouin

Sara's Father

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cara17_1.png

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Goes into a maddened rage at the thought of anything happening to his daughter, something Kai takes in stride, implying it not only happens a lot but is ultimately harmless overprotectiveness. He also types in an incredibly silly fashion, with emoticons and excited speech pattern, he also likes to sign off with the phrase "Thankies a million! (^^)/". In fact, Sara can immediately recognize his writing because of how embarrassing his quirks are.
  • Benevolent Boss: He's remarkably kind to Kai: treating him well, joking with him and praising his efforts, as well as rewarding him with his red apron as a gift. One that touches him so much it causes him to cry, Subverted as he’s revealed to be an overseer of the death game and let Kai be killed in it.
  • Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: He's rather quick to jump to the conclusion that Kai's fondness of her means that he has a crush on her, and declares that he won't allow such a thing to happen. Potentially subverted, with the heavy hint that he's an active overseer of the Death Game.
  • Offing the Offspring: Circumstances point to him working with and/or being the mastermind behind the Death Game. In that case, he has calculated an 84.5% chance of his own daughter's death..
  • Poor Communication Kills: Opted to keep Sara Locked Out of the Loop regarding their family's 'guardian angel', whom she knew as her stalker, which might have saved her considerable heartache, anguish and fear, not to mention leaving her more willing to trust him in the actual game… which in hindsight may have been his intention considering 2-2’s reveal.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's only going to get harder going forward to talk about him without the knowledge that he seems to be one of the final floor masters, or at the very least actually involved with the game in some way, appearing in person at the end of the "spare Kanna" route's chapter 2-2. Never mind these sprites looking an awful lot like Meister's a chapter later...

     Mr. Policeman

Mr. Policeman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cara22_1.png

  • Borrowed Catchphrase: His way of referring to himself in third person as "Mr. Policeman" influenced Keiji to do the same once he also became a police officer.
  • By-the-Book Cop: He's a Good Samaritan who believes in "fists of justice," but acknowledges it's not a very nice thing to do. When he discovers Megumi's corruption, he's promptly fired, likely because Megumi knew he wouldn't have accepted a bribe.
  • Death by Origin Story: His death at Keiji's hands is a key point in Keiji's trauma that he repeatedly avoids talking about to Sara and the others, and he's only prompted to giving said information up
  • Dies Wide Open: The hallucinations Keiji constantly has of him depict him as having died with a shocked and horrified expression in his face.
  • Good Samaritan: He helped retrieve Keiji's bike and went to his aid when he got in a fight. He's the reason the boy decided to join the force.
  • Nice Guy: He introduces himself as "your friendly neighborhood policeman", and he plays the part better than Keiji does.
  • Plot-Triggering Death: Keiji is manipulated by Midori into shooting him, and then Megumi covers the event up, breaking Keiji's trust in her. This series of events sets up Keiji's involvement in the death game, and his Murder by Inaction of Megumi during the first trial.
  • Satellite Character: Like Megumi, he's part of Keiji's Dark and Troubled Past and his only posthumous role in the game is as the subject of Keiji's hallucinations and nightmares.
  • Token Good Cop: It's hinted that he was the only cop who wasn't in Megumi Sasahara's pocket, hence why she chose to have him fired instead of paying him off like she did with the department when Keiji was being accused of his murder.
  • Tragic Keepsake: He gave Keiji his good luck charm when the latter was a young boy, telling him to give it back when he became a cop. When Keiji got his badge, he was informed that he had been fired, and the next time they see each other... Keiji permanently loses his chance to return it.

Past Episodes characters

     Ryoko Hirose

Ryoko Hirose

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cara24_1.png

Sara and Joe's mutual friend at Sonobeno High School, and Joe's love interest. Joe had just finished going out on his first date with her when he arrived to walk Sara home, an action that would have severe consequences for both of Ryoko's friends.

  • Big Eater: According to Joe, she ate a whole doner kebab in one bite.
  • Birds of a Feather: She's upbeat, friendly, protective of Sara and generally easy going. Much of these traits make her similar to Joe himself. They both even have a strong connection to Sara herself, and unsurprisingly, they get along greatly when on their date together.
  • Declaration of Protection: She made one with Joe to make sure that if anybody made Sara cry, then they would make them cry as well.
  • The Generic Girl: Her depiction in the manga and Sara's past episode shows her to be this, as hinted by her relatively normal black hair compared to both of her peers' more outlandish hairstyles.
  • The Ghost: While Sara and Joe do talk about her a bit, in-game she's not depicted in the flesh; several sketches only shown her as a hand, with the rest of her offscreen. Averted in the manga and Sara's past episode, where we get some clear looks at her face.
  • Sole Survivor: She was the only one of her friend group to not be kidnapped by ASU-NARO and thrown into the Death Game.

     Clown Master

  • Ambiguous Situation: He had an outfit that was perfectly fitting of a high school girl, it worries Anzu for a few moments as to why he'd have something like that around, but the reason why is never addressed.
  • Nice Guy: While he teases Anzu about her forehead, he's a very kind individual, taking on Anzu as his apprentice despite not seeking out any, and wanting his talents being judged on his abilities rather than his Pretty Boy appearance.

     Mysterious Woman

  • Ambiguous Situation: Similar to Anzu's clown master, her past and reasons for telling Anzu not to bother him aren't explained. It puts into question how much is legitimate with the shady lady and if they truly had a circus background.

     Stronghold

     Ursheen

Ursheen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cara28_1.png
  • Ambiguous Gender: There is no gendered pronoun given to Ursheen when they're addressed, and their style of dress doesn't give any hints as to one way or the other. Given the band's aesthetic and Alice's own Ambiguous Gender Identity, they could simply be non-binary.
  • Berserk Button: Talking about trying to kiss Reko, which results in them giving a Death Glare to Stronghold for making a "joke" about it.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Quite clearly has a crush on Reko, but Reko doesn't treat them with anything other than professionalism or frustration.
  • The Silent Bob: Doesn't utter a word, but Alice, Stronghold and Reko understand them just fine. It's quite possible that they're mute.

     Kobushi

Kobushi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cara29_1.png
  • Book Dumb: By his own admission, he's struggled a lot with studies in his youth.
  • Career-Ending Injury: The brutal beatdown he got from Gruusem sends him to the hospital, and he retires not long after. Either from demoralization or the beatdown itself is never said.
  • Didn't See That Coming: He agreed to the match against Gruusem even after finding out the Champion was out of his weight class, but didn't expect it to essentially turn into a street fight instead of a traditional boxing match.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's willing to fight kids with the strength he would an adult, but is ultimately just trying to teach them a lesson in a humility.
  • Training from Hell: Inflicted this on Kuramada, training him until he puked or couldn't breathe in an attempt to shape him to being the best boxer he could be.
  • Trickster Mentor: Trains Kuramada with the promise they'll fight in a professional setting without telling him that they most likely wouldn't be able to do so considering they're from the same gym.

     Gruusem

     Sei (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Sei

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cara18_11.png
  • Always Someone Better: Introduced this way to Kai by Gashu, having better stamina, strength and vitality than him while Kai is barely holding himself together. This is averted after Kai trains and bests him, at which point Sei reveals that he's The Pawn.
  • Death of a Child: He can't be older than 11 or 12, but he's cut down by a fellow assassin in training.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Sei's real dad is only briefly mentioned, but it can be inferred that he was killed for attempting to protect his son from Asu-Naro's plots, as Gashu is threatened for doing something similar.
  • Foreshadowing: Back in Chapter 2-2, Sou and Sara talk about Ranger's chip and the information it held, with the amount of information on it that could be misused, Ranger is speculated to be for a successor for a son. While it could be assumed Rio was purely to replace Kai, Sei's existence and demise more concretely confirms that Rio was a (failed) Replacement Goldfish for Sei in Gashu's eyes.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Talks down to Kai a few times, partially to antagonize him and partially because he's envious of Kai himself.
  • Missing Mom: His dad is confirmed as to have been killed by ASU-NARO, but his mom is never mentioned.
  • The Rival: Adopted by Gashu purely as a way to drive his own son to be a better assassin, by goading and boasting his accomplishments over Kai while still playing his true role as The Pawn by Asu-Naro to drive Kai to gain the will to kill. This does eventually evolve to them making a Friendly Rivalry.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He's only even mentioned or seen in Kai's past episode, but he plays a big part in shaping who Kai is and his death the reason for Gashu's coldness, and Rio Ranger's entire existence.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: He's enthusiastic about being an assassin and killing others, despite all the torture and Training from Hell he has to endure on a regular basis. This is somewhat Played With as the real reason for his enthusiasm is due to him playing a role to push Kai to be a killer. However, there are other signs of this trope, such as his vulgar language or his willingness to kill others. He even berates and attacks Kai for not wanting to kill anyone.
  • Walking Spoiler: Simply by virtue of being a part of Kai's past means that it's impossible to talk about him without revealing Kai's Dark and Troubled Past and his connection to Gashu and Rio Ranger.

Your Time to Shine Castaways

    Touko Rikuno

Touko Rikuno

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cara97_7.png
A university student who washed ashore on Memory Island.
  • Come Alone: Gives this condition to the protagonist in regards to visiting her.
  • Forgotten Fallen Friend: Averted, and the fact that she isn't one to Jin is actually an indication that she's still alive; as the protagonist reasons out, if the island hasn't erased Jin's memories of his friend, that should theoretically mean she's still alive somewhere. This turns out to be correct.
  • Idiot Hair: A long one that reaches out over the side of her head.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's incredibly hostile and defensive when she and her boat are first discovered, but should the player choose to give her the materials she needs to repair her boat, she's appreciative and even offers to let you and all your companions come with her.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: She has a very good reason to be suspicious of random people approaching her boat; as far as she knows, her only ally is dead and she's all alone with what might be the only way off the island.
  • Robinsonade: She's been stuck on the island for quite a while. The protagonist encounters her when they come across a boat she's been trying to repair.
  • Unkempt Beauty: Even with the tattered clothes and long, dirty hair, she's still quite a pretty young woman.

    Jin Mutou

Jin Mutou

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cara98_1.png
An engineer who washed ashore on Memory Island.
  • Beard of Sorrow: Sports a bit of stubble from the time he's been washed ashore.
  • Dirty Coward: When he and Touko were attacked by monsters, he opted to run away for the sake of his own survival, though he later admits he felt bad about doing so.
  • Nice Guy: Assuming some food was given to him to ensure his survival, Jin's a pretty relaxed fellow. If he's given three food, he'll go above and beyond and give the player the same amount of food back, as well as a good amount of money and material.
  • Robinsonade: Just like Touko, he's in pretty bad shape from staying on the island for so long.

    Rei

Rei

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cara998.png
An amnesiac who only appeared via diary he left behind in Your Time To Shine. However, by the time his notebooks had been discovered he had long since passed away with the island's 'curse' making him forgotten.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: He was the one who created the island world...and ended up getting killed for his troubles. Though, in fairness, he did say that someone else had already taken to using it.
  • Posthumous Character: By the time his diary is discovered he's been dead for quite a while.
  • True Companions: Seemed to have that relationship with the other twelve castaways, if him leaving his diary and the device capable of returning his memories for them to use was any sign. Of course, on the only route on which they discover this, the island has begun to break apart.
